where the palm trees sway

Hi friends! How was your weekend? I hope you had an amazing one! It was rainy and lovely around here, so Sunday was spent snuggling and relaxing.  It’s also been super windy, so our yard is officially a palm tree shedding ground. There’s something creepy about watching them gently sway at night.

Friday night I was SO excited to finally try out Plant Power. Plant Power is a vegan fast food restaurant, with tons of healthy and raw options. Needless to say, I’ve been fangirling over this for months. When it finally opened, I was like WE HAVE TO TRY IT and basically danced all the way down there. I was excited to see that it was bright and clean, with lots of healthy options for the fam… even though the Pilot was like “What is ‘beefy’ and why is it in quotations?” The verdict: let down! I’m hoping it’s just growing pains. I debated over the menu for 18 years and finally decided on the Holy Guacamole burger (tempeh patty) wrapped in cabbage. The burger was mushy and had the weirdest texture.

I mean, I ate it, but it was not my fave. Also, I picked up a chocolate chip cookie to share with Liv and it was really salty. I love salt in my baked goodies, but someone went  a little overboard. Even the bag fries I stuffed down my face while driving home were mediocre. The best part about the meal was the prices -$21 to feed our whole family- but the food was just ok. I’ll definitely go back and try something else, but I thought the burgers would be where the magic is! Sadly, no.

Speaking of fast food, Starbucks for the whole family:

(Don’t worry, I just put P’s bottle in there to tote it up to Liv’s ballet class)

and Saturday I took a beautiful yoga class. It was everything I needed, and the instructor talked about creation and how we have the ability to create our own destiny. It’s so easy to get caught up in things “happening to us” instead of focusing on the actions we can take, and the ways we can initiate change. It was exactly what I needed to hear. With the medical stuff going on, I’ve had a lot of the “why is this happening?” type of thoughts. It was a good reminder to focus on the things I can control. Also, I did my first postpartum headstand! I’ve been afraid to go up all the way since my core is still pretty weak, but I decided to go for it. No yoga dominoes occurred, and it felt so good to be upside down. 🙂

Saturday night we ate at Soup Plantation since we still hadn’t done a full grocery haul and were officially out of options.

P snoozed in my arms while I tried to avoid dropping salad onto her.

(Also, Liv is officially over saying “cheers” with dessert. She’s like imma eat this thing.)

Sunday was strength and cardio a la PBB, the weekly errands/chores, and shooting the rest of the Winter Shape Up pics with Henry.

We also met up with friends at Crack Shack, Richard Blais’ new restaurant. Is very family-friendly, and they have a huge patio which will be perfect for the summer.

(With this giant statue. The kiddos ran around it while the adults made as many…rooster…jokes as possible.)

I ordered the kale caesar with smoked chicken and it was amazing.

After a week off, I was back on the meal prep wagon and tracked everything to share in tomorrow’s post.

Since this post is already all over the place, can we talk about Grease Live? I practically groaned when I changed the channel to watch it, because TV musicals have not been the best lately. I love that it makes the arts accessible, but not if it’s going to turn potential fans off forever. (Cough, Sound of Music and Peter Pan.) Grease Live was AMAZING. I loved some parts even more than the movie, and Vanessa Hudgens slayed it. Also, my girl crush on Julianne Hough is on a new level.

Hope you have a wonderful night and I’ll see you in the morning!

xoxo

I loved Grease Live also. I watched it while recovering from major surgery and it really helped cheer me up.
I hear where your coming from with the why me thoughts…I am having the same thoughts.
    Good luck to you.

Oh man as soon as I saw that giant rooster I was thinking of jokes heheh. Sounds like fun though! Those palm fronds are no joke, and heavy too! Be careful with those….

Bummer about that fast food place! Hopefully they get better over time! I love the concept!

The wind here has been crazy! I live on the sixth floor of my residence hall, and I just watched outside to see all of the trees almost opposing over. Terrifying! I’d never seen anything like it.

I planned to watch Grease, but I missed it. Got caught up in another movie haha! I’ll have to watch it on demand.

Sound of Music Live wasn’t the strongest production… it needed a better lead. That said, I actually really enjoyed it. I did the musical production in high school and it has a bunch of differences from the movie which is all most people have ever seen. But a lot of the supporting actors had amazing voices and really played the part well for being a live show.

i thought it was ok. i also did the musical in high school and love that they stayed true to the stage version. i just thought it was meh. peter pan was way worse though haha

      • Meagan Leanne on February 2, 2016 at 11:44 am

I didn’t bother with Peter Pan… Sound of Music has been the only live TV musical that has seemed to be worth watching. What part did you play when you did SoM?

        • Fitnessista on February 2, 2016 at 12:50 pm

Maria 🙂 one of my favorite parts ever.

          • Meagan Leanne on February 2, 2016 at 8:12 pm

Lucky you! I didn’t get to play Maria because she casted for seniority and I was a junior 🙁 I played Louisa but she did give me the Lonely Goatherd solo so I have that. Sound of Music was my favorite of all the plays we did. Check out this clip from our performance if you’re interested! 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbCqre50eLM

ahhh i loved watching that! you were amazing! that was my least fave to sing because it was RIGHT where the break in my voice is. we had to take it down like 2 steps haha

          • Meagan Leanne on February 3, 2016 at 1:33 pm

I’m glad you liked it! I wish there had been breaks in between verses because there was never a chance to catch your breath! This was the last of our performances and I had a cold so it wasn’t the best (and I messed up a line lol). It’s been fun reminiscing 🙂

      the worst. thank you!

  11. Lauren @ Oh Hey! I Like That! on February 2, 2016 at 8:51 am

Seriously, Vanessa Hudgens just super killed it on Grease Live–I mean, everyone did a great job, but Vanessa needs to head up to Broadway RIGHT NOW!

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2016 at 10:45 am

      especially considering the circumstances <3

  12. Tracy on February 2, 2016 at 9:53 am

I agree with you on Grease Live! I was so afraid to watch it since Grease is a lifelong fave of mine. I had high hopes for my girl crush J Hough though! She definitely didn’t let us down! And Vanessa H…perfect for her role!!

Such a bummer about Plant Power! What a let down 🙁 Please go again and report back!!

    • Fitnessista on February 2, 2016 at 10:43 am

      they were AMAZING!
      ok, i definitely will<3

  13. Brittany on February 2, 2016 at 12:21 pm

I was very impressed with grease live! I’ve had a crush on Aaron Tveit since I saw les Mis so I was squealing like a little girl the whole time! He killed it on the drive in song. Summer nights had been stuck in my head for two days!

I love learning about all the new restaurants from you! I am so out of the loop these days. Have you tried Evolution Fast Food in Hillcrest? Pretty pricey, but we love it (even my meat-eating husband loves it). Also – Native Foods is good for casual plant-based foods!

  15. Jennifer on February 2, 2016 at 2:05 pm

Bummer that place was a bust! How long has Plant Powered have been opened for? I know a lot of restaurants kind-of blow the first month since the staff is still trying to figure out the new space and sometimes it takes some time to get the chefs all on the same page. I mean, that burger you were eating LOOKS good.
