While you were BodyPumping…

Hi guys!

Photo 31

It hurts to type this. I’m finishing up BodyPump instructor training this weekend and every muscle in my body is crying (tears of happiness, of course). 😉 I’ll post a full recap when the training is over for those of you who have been considering certification, but I will say that it has been an amazing weekend and experience so far. Just with our full day of training yesterday, I’ve learned many new form cues and motivational techniques. Our trainer is a POWERHOUSE and I’ve enjoyed learning from her this weekend.

It felt good to come back home to the family last night:

(If I’m wearing a hoodie, Liv asks me to “kangaroo” her and zip her up with me. The best… also the closest thing we get to a Moby wrap these days)

While I’ve been at instructor training, the Pilot and Liv have had a great daddy-daughter weekend. They went to the beach yesterday, we all enjoyed a grilled dinner and watermelon last night, and who knows what adventures they’ll get into today 🙂

This week will include my last round of recipe testing (wahoo!), a fun dinner party here at the house, and  excitement for my mom and nana to visit. They’ll be here in two weeks and I can’t wait to see them.

Here’s what’s on the tentative plan for the week:

Sunday: BODYPUMP all the day

Monday: OFF

Tuesday: Teach Zumba (!!!)

Wednesday: Barre3

Thursday: Runday

Friday: Orange Theory

Saturday: OFF

Dinner and plan/prep ideas:

Cinco de Mayo! (<– my favorite Mexi-meals are in this post) Chicken enchiladas, rice, beans and margaritas are happening over here

-Dinner party: classic salmon, Greek chopped salad, stuffed grape leaves, pizookies and ice cream for dessert

Turkey joes, roasted veggies and sweet potato fries

-Make amazeballs

-Chop veggies for salad

-Make homemade Ranch

-Make cauliflower rice

Are you planning and prepping today? Any fun Cinco de Mayo plans??

Hope you have a very happy Sunday <3

Off to squat press my little heart out.

xoxo

Gina

I adore body pump! Enjoy training!

  2. Ryah on May 4, 2014 at 10:52 am

I just tried body pump for the first time last week and liked it a lot. But how are you suppose to vary your weights by section? The instructor I had didn’t really break that down to well for the newbies like me.

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:43 am

it’s something we learned, and that was emphasized during the training. i’ve also taken classes where the instructor wasn’t very clear about weight selection, so that’s important to me when i start teaching

  3. Traci on May 4, 2014 at 10:55 am

I’m intrigued about body pump! And I’m also incredibly sore right now, but from weight lifting. I can hardly extend my arms to the computer to type this! Love the feeling, though!

  4. Jen on May 4, 2014 at 11:10 am

The kangaroo request is so darn cute, I can hardly stand it. 🙂 Enjoy every moment!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:42 am

      thank you! the best 🙂

Oh my gosh, I’m so excited for you to complete your initial training. That’s a big step. Next up is the video assessment process, which is also a challenge.

From one Les Mills instructor to another, welcome to the tribe!! 🙂

    • Sarrah on May 4, 2014 at 1:34 pm

Wahoo! Best of luck for your video assessment! I adore teaching pump, love the Les Mills family.

      • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:38 am

        thank you!

  6. Becca on May 4, 2014 at 11:58 am

I made the cheese-stuffed jalapenos and cilantro rice that you posted. They went well together.

I actually live in Puebla (where the battle of 5 de Mayo took place) but my job never gives us the day off because it’s not a federal holiday. Oh well!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:42 am

      oh glad you liked them!
DUDE. i think you would definitely get that off!

  7. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on May 4, 2014 at 12:44 pm

I am very interested to hear what you think of the training! I really need to get more BodyPump back in my life! I feel like it has been FOREVER!

  8. Crystal on May 4, 2014 at 12:48 pm

I used to go to body pump all the time, but then my instructor moved and was replaced with someone I didn’t care for much :/ She never changed anything, not even the music, for over a year! So I gave up and have missed body pump ever since. Hope you’re not too sore after the weekend lol!

That kangaroo pic is too cute 😀

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:38 am

      oh nooooo.
haha it hurts to be alive 😉 but, i feel inspired and motivated
hope you had a great weekend too!

I just did my first BodyPump class this weekend! My whole body is so sore; it was such a great workout!

  10. Jess on May 4, 2014 at 1:58 pm

So glad you’re loving the training! Who’s your trainer? Les Mills really knows how to make life-changing training experiences!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:38 am

      lissa. she was WONDERFUL 🙂

      • Jess on May 5, 2014 at 8:18 pm

I’ve never heard of her (I’m on the east coast), but I’ve only had phenomenal LM trainers. So glad you had an incredible time!

Sadly my husband has to travel most of this week 🙁 But he will be home for Cinco de Mayo!! Margaritas and taco pie on the menu 🙂

We had an awesome weekend because a tiny 8 week old baby was visiting with his mama! So fun to have a baby around!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:37 am

      so sweet 🙂
margaritas and taco pie sound fantastic!

That kangaroo picture is so cute!

I’ve never tried Body Pump but it sounds fun! I need to try different group fitness classes I might try it next!

  14. Gianna @ Run, Lift, Repeat on May 4, 2014 at 4:11 pm

Body pump = my faaaavorite. I might need to fly the 3000 miles to take class with you. You will be an amazing instructor!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:37 am

      doooooo it 🙂
i hope so! it’s a lot to take in.

  15. Megan @ The Skinny-Life on May 4, 2014 at 5:30 pm

I’m excited to hear about your Body Pump experience. I’ve never tried it, but have been wanting to. My gym doesn’t offer it so I need to find a place that does. I made fish tacos, homemade salsa and plantain chips for cinco de mayo healthy style.

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:39 am

      plantain chips! SO GOOD

  16. Rhiannon @ Bound to be a Buckeye on May 4, 2014 at 7:15 pm

I just got an email about how to make brisket tacos. We just so happen to have a lovely brisket waiting for the smoker! I can’t wait to smother it in guac for cinco de mayo 🙂

  17. Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries on May 4, 2014 at 7:51 pm

Can’t wait to hear all about your Body Pump-filled weekend! 🙂

  18. Becky @ Goodness Grapevine on May 4, 2014 at 8:22 pm

I’ve never tried body pump but would love to. Actually I just posted about my plans to try Zumba for the first time this week (i think you’d be proud…), and a new Vegan Enchilada recipe. Cheers to a good week ahead!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:37 am

so very proud 🙂 let me know how you like it!
      cheers!

  19. Livi on May 4, 2014 at 8:28 pm

    So exciting, good luck!!
My plans for cinco de mayo = studying for all those finals! Almost free!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:36 am

ahhh! good luck! you’re almost there 🙂

  20. Bark on May 4, 2014 at 8:40 pm

Can you let me know where you are going to be teaching? I live in San Diego and would love to take your class. Either Zumba or Body Pump.

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:36 am

i’m likely going to be teaching some free body pump classes as i finish my certification process. if i can find a space, i’ll post the info for those who are local and want to come!

  21. Kristen @ Vitamin K Girl on May 4, 2014 at 9:38 pm

I love BodyPump! I also love Zumba, but haven’t been to a class in almost 2 months:( My gym only offers a few Zumba classes and my favorite instructor injured her hip so they had to cancel her classes until she’s better. Wish I could come take your class!!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:35 am

awww man! i wish you could, too!

  22. Cheri @ Overactive Blogger on May 4, 2014 at 10:16 pm

I am Zumba Licensed, and I have my AFAA group exercise cert as well. I am thinking about getting certed to teach Body Pump and I can’t wait to hear a more in-depth recap of what the process was like. I love to lift, and I think it’s so important to get more women lifting!

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 12:35 am

i totally agree, and love that it inspires people to strength train.

  23. Shaina Anderson on May 5, 2014 at 1:38 am

I want to take your class!

I think we’ll be going out tomorrow for dinner since half my kitchen is in boxes. 🙂

  24. Jenn on May 5, 2014 at 9:21 am

Love body pump!!!! Do you make cauliflower rice in your processor or vitamix? I only have a vitamix, my processor broke a while ago and I haven’t replaced it. Do you think if I keep it on a lower setting it will work and not puree it?

    • Fitnessista on May 5, 2014 at 10:12 am

i would pulse it by alternating on high. usually, i make mine in the food processor

  25. Lucie@FitSwissChick on May 5, 2014 at 9:23 am

Congrats on Body Pump Training! So cool!!

Aaaaah, the beach views are just stunning!!

  26. Stephanie @ Whole Health Dork on May 5, 2014 at 2:02 pm

    Happy cinco!
That picture of you with Liv is too cute. I love that she asks you that. Enjoy the beach! Still a ways to go before it’s beach days here!

  27. joelle @ on a pink typewriter on May 6, 2014 at 1:02 pm

I recently got into Body Pump since I’ve been sidelined from running with an injury, and I LOVE it. It’s already changed my body in great ways (combined with barre class). If you can share, where in SD will you be teaching?

    • Fitnessista on May 6, 2014 at 6:26 pm

      i’ll DM you! 🙂
we still need to barre3 together, too!
