Why I’m Excited For a Girl

Thank you so much for the amazing emails, comments and tweets about finding out that our little one is actually a “she.” Sorry to throw ya’ll for a loop, but I’m definitely glad we found out now instead of at the actual birth! Of course, as long as the baby is healthy and human, that’s all that matters, but it’s definitely fun to plan, prepare and have certain things to look forward to.

Everyone keeps saying we’ve had the best of both worlds:

We knew what it felt like to be excited to have a boy, and now we know how exciting it is to be expecting a girl.

Since I wrote a post called “Why I’m Excited for a Little Man” I thought it would only be fair to write one about why we can’t wait to have a little girl.

1) The end of the great circumcision debate. I wasn’t for it –no one is going near my child with a pair of snippers- and the Pilot was adamant about it. One night, I asked him if he’d watch a video of the procedure with me.

“Um, I don’t need to watch a video. I’ve been there.”

“Yeah, but you were little and don’t remember it!”

*Starts dying laughing*

“You just made this the easier argument I’ve ever won! Next argument, please”

Oops.. haha.

At least we’re done with that discussion… for now.

2) The socks that look like Mary Jane shoes, big flowery headbands and pigtails.

Girls definitely have better accessories. My swoon meter is at fifteen thousand right now, and I love the little girl things I’ve already picked up 😀 We ordered the nursery bedding last night and I can’t wait for it to get here.

3) Doing many of the things I was planning on doing with a little boy: reading, arts and crafts, farmer’s markets, field trips (zoo, Children’s museum, library), playgroups and cooking. Like I said before, a baby is a baby, without regard to boy or girl <3

4) Seeing her fall in love with her daddy, and the amazing care he’s going to take of her. Every time I start to think about how much they’re going to love each other, my heart overfills and my eyes get all watery. I also know that she and I will have a special bond- my mom is one of my best friends.

5) Bella will have a sister 😀

I am so freaking happy and excited for you guys! When women tell me what they are having, whether it is a boy or a girl, my reaction is the same: clapping and gasping with happiness.

This is so exciting! I was very happy for the both of you when I heard the news! I think one the very special things also about having a girl is seeing how she and her father interact. There nothing more endearing than seeing a daddy dote on his little girl!

Oh and pink tutus couldn’t hurt, either 🙂

My parents were told that both me and my older sister were going to be boys all the way up until we came up. Its great that you found out before then! I’m so happy for you and the pilot! Congratulations!!!!!

I wish I was going to your baby shower! That sounds weird, but all my friends are having boys and I see this stuff that’s so freakin’ cute for girls and I just want to buy it!!! Maybe I will & just pray that someday, I’ll have a girl.
I agree — girls definitely have cuter accessories. She’s going to be so cute! 😀

Yaaaayyyy!!!! So excited for you guys!!!! Those little socks are too freaking cute! If you like the little headbands, a good friend of mine sells hand made ones in every shape, color, and size you could possibly imagine. She’s on Facebook under “Mommasbows”. Hopefully this link will work…. http://m.facebook.com/?w2m&_rdr#!/MOMMASBOWS

    Again, so happy for you!!

  14. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on August 14, 2011 at 2:39 pm

I would be so excited about all the cute accessories for girls, too! 🙂

I’m 100% with you against circumcision. I don’t feel it’s natural or necessary, and true babies don’t remember it, but they will know their whole adult lives that a lot of “feeling” in that area was taken away–deliberately and unnecessarily. Stand your ground for when the next little nugget is a boy!! 😀

  15. Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun on August 14, 2011 at 2:40 pm

So exciting! I love those big bows with the flowers on them 🙂 I secretly wish I had a little girl….I was blessed with 3 boys, but still…..I would love a best friend too!

How exciting for you two! I love those flower headbands…too cute! Oh your baby girl will have the pilot wrapped around her tiny fingers…and that will never change no matter how old she is (oh yeah, I’m still a daddy’s girl!).

  19. Nicole @ Giraffelegs on August 14, 2011 at 3:10 pm

gahhh! please post all of the cute little outfits and hair stuff you pick up for her =))))
have you guys started thinking about names yet??

  20. Hillary on August 14, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Any time I think of my boyfriend and I having a baby girl, I swoon. We’re nowhere NEAR that stage yet, but the thought of him bonding with a daughter the way my dad and I bonded just sends me over the edge!

  21. fittingbackin on August 14, 2011 at 3:21 pm

Oh this is so sweet! Two little girls – Bella will be a wonderful big sis. 🙂

Those socks/mary janes are TOO cute – i’ve never seen those!

Okay, fine, i’ll say it – I’ve always said I wanted boys but you make excellent girl points! hehe Such a sweet post, girl!

don’t forget the glitter and all the sparkles! my niece loves anything with glitters and sparkles. :))

  25. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 14, 2011 at 4:00 pm

You are going to love having a little girl and doing all the “girlie things” with her from picking out cute socks, accessories, and hair things to just experiencing and reliving your childhood through her.

Maybe I could have gotten into trucks and action figures if I had a boy but being able to play dolls and Barbies with my little girl has been like reliving my childhood, with an adult perspective, and it’s been such a gift.

What you said about Pilot and a baby girl…yes, the father/daughter bond is SO special to watch.

And yes, being able to shop and do the girlie things, for me, it’s been amazing and I’m sure you will love every pink, sparkly second of it too 🙂

  26. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats on August 14, 2011 at 4:14 pm

Aww 🙂 I love reading your baby posts! They give me baby fever even though I am NOWHERE near that point! lol.

Big pink headbands are wear its at! My mom was sure to never let me leave the house without one as a baby 🙂

  28. sophie on August 14, 2011 at 4:32 pm

Congratulations!!!!!! Your baby girl is going to be so cute with all her cute accessories!!!!!

  29. meagan on August 14, 2011 at 4:44 pm

I love having a baby girl! She is so cute. And you’re right, the clothes/accessories are definitely more fun with a girl.

There’s a book called ‘Daddy Hugs’ by Karen Katz that I got for my husband when we found out we were having a girl. It’s the sweetest little counting book and he reads it to her every night. It makes me teary when I hear them together before bed time 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 14, 2011 at 10:57 pm

so cute- i might have to order that 🙂

  33. Erin (Travel Eat Repeat) on August 14, 2011 at 5:21 pm

My cousin just had her baby shower and she’s expecting a little girl — all of the lacy, frilly clothes made my heart melt. And this: “as long as the baby is healthy and human” <– totally the right perspective but also made me laugh.

  34. lindsay on August 14, 2011 at 5:49 pm

and she will be precious in all those little outfits. What a great story to tell some day. 2 surprises, both blessings.

    • lindsay on August 14, 2011 at 5:49 pm

      p.s.

so maybe the 2nd child will be a boy with this luck?
      😉

  35. Cait @ Beyond Bananas on August 14, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Yay! I was shocked when I saw what had happened. I know that this happens to many families.. although some don’t find out til birth! A little girl that was in a class I student taught for – was told she was having a lil baby sister.. then 2 months later – she found out it was a baby brother. The parent’s could adapt, but this littler girl was devastated – she was hysterical in school – because she wanted a little sister.. NOT a little brother!!

I am sure that Bella is happy to have a sister.. and would have been just has happy to have a brother.. just as you and the Pilot felt blessed either way! 🙂

  36. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on August 14, 2011 at 6:08 pm

Those headbands are seriously the best girl accessory out there, so cute!

  37. Julie (A Case of the Runs) on August 14, 2011 at 6:14 pm

I am not planning on “finding out” when the time comes, so I would probably bounce around like this a million times. But as you say, a baby is a baby! Congrats again!

  38. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on August 14, 2011 at 7:54 pm

Man! Cutest post you have ever written. I have no desire to have children, but your excitement almost makes me give it all a second thought!

GINA!!!!!!!!!!! I’m a couple days out of the loop but what a way to welcome me back to your blog. CONGRATULATIONS! Speaking from the perspective of a newbie aunt with three adorable little ladies in my life, it is going to be amazing. 🙂 I’m so happy for you two!

  41. Drdaniellaluck on August 15, 2011 at 7:02 am

As a doctor theirs reasons that having that proceure is better even if it hurts the babies….plus how would you feel if your son was upset later on in life because you decided that you didnt want circumcision… The benefits outweigh the risk plus let your husband handle that one…how are you going to explain that your husband is circumcised and hes not later on in life beleve me i have seen this situation several times

Another good thing is if you decide to have another baby; a big sister is a lot of help. They love “playing mama” to a baby.

I wanted a boy when I was pregnant & then found out at the ultrasound that I was having a girl. I was disappointed for all of 5 seconds then went out shopping for girl clothes & haven’t looked back! My daughter is 11 now (she’s my only child) & I would have 10 more – all girls! Girls rock! 🙂
