Winter White

Warning: sunglasses highly encouraged before reading this post 😉

It’s pretty sunny and warm in AZ,

but my legs would tell ya otherwise…

turbo2

Yes, they really are that pasty.

Besides the sun, they also haven’t seen a roundhouse or Turbo move in quite a few months, but I brought it back yesterday! Liv was taking a nap and the Pilot was home, so I decided to bust out a Turbofire workout. Whew! KILLER cardio. I felt triumphant just by finishing the 45 Fire DVD- it was awesome.

Some recent eats:

super spinach2

My favorite Super Spinach Salad from TJs

lunch2

with tea- I’m on a major tea kick

Seaweed and almonds:

snacks

This morning’s breakfast was a sludgy-looking smoothie + tea

smoothie6

-1 frozen banana

-1 T almond butter

-1/2 C strawberries

-1 scoop Sun Warrior

-1 C almond milk

-vanilla + pinch of sea salt

-handful of spinach

-last little bit of the oatmeal bag

ingredients2

Getting back in the swing of fitness has reminded me that I still have a long way to go to get my endurance back, but at the same time, it makes things even more exciting. Workouts that I used to breeze through (like an hour yoga practice or the Turbo DVDs) hand my booty to me on a silver platter, which makes it feel like I’m trying a new workout for the first time all over again.. if that makes sense?

It’s finally to the point where my legs stopped feeling like noodles –the excess relaxin in the body can make things a little unstable- and while I’m still a little weak, I can definitely tell that I’m getting stronger everyday. From toting the little one around all day, my biceps are gonna be cut 😉

I start teaching again in 3 weeks, which is definitely bittersweet. My first schedule is very low key –I’ll be able to walk after my first week back!-with long lunch breaks to come home in between the am and pm classes.

Going to make some bfast for the Pilot and take Bell for a walk 🙂

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo

Gina

Great quote! I totally know what you mean about feeling like you’re doing a workout for the first time. I love Moksha yoga, but don’t do it regularly so every time I go to a class, I feel like it’s been WAY too long. Don’t worry about your pasty legs – I can assure you mine are even more white!

Oh, I adore Moksha yoga too! <3 Hehehe…I got excited to see your comment. 😉 It's absolutely amazing – I did my Moksha teacher training in 2008, and practice all the time with the Moksha to-go CD's – but unfortunately we don't have any studios in England 🙁 Boo, lol! You're so lucky to have access to one – enjoy! <3 xyx

i did a Fire 45 yesterday as well!! Love that woman!

  3. Sarah @ See Sarah Eat on March 13, 2012 at 1:11 pm

I have definitely been blinding people with my legs the past couple of weeks! We are having unseasonably warm weather here in KY but I’m not complaining 🙂

  4. aj on March 13, 2012 at 1:17 pm

I finally ate the super spinach salad yesterday for lunch, per your recommendation! You are right it is glorious. And it is packed with soooo much high quality fuel, I felt like a million bucks the rest of the day.

PS. My legs look white like that most of the year living in Minnesota, LOL. But still, your body looks pretty smokin these days, so impressed by you! Get it gurl! LOL. : )

  5. Kris | iheartwellness.com on March 13, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Hahahaha!!! living in Vancouver, Canada, we’re pasty until like July…and then we only have until Sept where we keep a glow, so join the club 😉

I want to try turbofire badly, but it seems hardcore!!!!

    xxoo

Loving the quote! I remember how toned my mom’s arms were after she had my little brother – he was a hefty kid! 😉

  7. kaila @ healthyhelper on March 13, 2012 at 1:25 pm

That is EXACTLY how I feel right now! I have scaled my workouts waaaaaay back and now that I am adding some of my old routine back in…I am getting my ass handed to me! Stuff I used to breeze through is so challenging right now! But like you said, I kind of like it! I feel like I am challenging my body all over again! I think its good to let your fitness level go through cycles ….it keeps the body guessing!

  8. HRCK the Herald on March 13, 2012 at 1:28 pm

Love the print on that Lulu tank 🙂

It was warm enough here to go tights-less, and I think everyone in this city must have been blinded by my pale legs, too!

  9. Destini on March 13, 2012 at 1:29 pm

I also enjoyed a spinach salad for my lunch today! So full of awesomeness.

I have never done Turbo Fire, but currently on week 3 of Insanity. It is pretty crazy. After I am finished it I want to try Insanity Asylum and onto Turbo Fire.

Have you seen the 10min trainer? It is also a beachbody workout collection. I am a little skeptical on that.
    Have a great day 🙂

  10. CaitlinHTP on March 13, 2012 at 1:31 pm

    pale is cool 🙂

  11. Annelei on March 13, 2012 at 1:32 pm

LOVE Turbofire! It’s awesome! Just started a challenge with some friends and I chose Insanity as my drug of choice 🙂 Talk about getting your butt handed to you! Feels so amazing though and I can’t wait till tomorrow morning! My whole body is pasty white! I need me some sun!

  12. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on March 13, 2012 at 1:40 pm

haha I’d rather be sporting the all-white leg look rather than the running shorts and sneakers tan line I’m sporting right now. Wearing a bikini is going to be super fun… 😛

  13. Lisa on March 13, 2012 at 1:48 pm

If you think your legs are white… you should see mine! They haven’t seen the slightest bit of sunshine since I went to Disneyworld last September (and they probably still won’t see any for another 2 months).

  14. Chelsa on March 13, 2012 at 1:50 pm

That spinach salad looks super yummy. It’s good to see you’re bouncing back so quickly, very inspiring 🙂

  15. Ali on March 13, 2012 at 2:03 pm

    hey Gina!

I don’t comment very often, but I want to know that since finding your blog about four months ago I’ve come back every day! Your posts are legit inspiring, just seeing healthy foods and your workouts and hearing some of the cute details of your day definitely make mine better. Just wanted to say thanks girl! So happy that you’ve kept up an awesome posting schedule despite how hectic things could potentially be, you rock!

  16. Ali @ Peaches and Football on March 13, 2012 at 2:11 pm

It’s MARCH. The only people who should have tanned legs are those who live near the equator or those who fake bake. You’ll be bronzed before you know it – and think of all the fun walks you can take outside with Liv.

  17. Averie @ Averie Cooks on March 13, 2012 at 2:39 pm

Relaxin and that wet noodle feeling, gosh, I remember it so well. For a LONG time after delivery, I felt like every workout I did was like the first time I ever worked out in my life. So many changes in your body (and mindset) post baby, aren’t there!

  18. Sonia the Mexigarian on March 13, 2012 at 2:44 pm

My little sister came back from Coasta Rica two weeks ago, tanned to the bone. Super jealous. Granted, she already has a darker complexion than me since I’m the “güera” of my Mexican family 🙂

And I completly agree about coming back to workouts after a long hiatus.

  19. Dr. Evan on March 13, 2012 at 3:41 pm

Great to see you getting a good start to the Spring/Summer seasons. It’s always tough getting back into the swing of things after a long winter. Spinach salad looks tasty, thanks for sharing!

  20. Chloe on March 13, 2012 at 4:00 pm

Haha! I love how you mentioned that your arms will be cut from carrying around Livi all day – I was holding a friend’s baby the other day and my arms got so tired! And girl, let me tell you, your legs look straight up golden compared to mine! I can’t wait to get some sunshine-y vitamin D! 🙂

  21. Holli on March 13, 2012 at 5:48 pm

I feel ya on the pasty white legs. I’m doing a half marathon this weekend and will be wearing shorts…I hope I don’t blind people. Living on the east coast my legs have been covered since October. Oh well.

    Love the quote 🙂

  22. Sara on March 13, 2012 at 5:59 pm

I can vouch for the biceps thing, also abs and thighs if you do it right. Lifting a baby thirty bazillion times a day is quite the workout, and it’s an ever increasing weight! By the time they get to walking stage (and that is by no means the end of the ‘lift me up!’ requests, you might be lifting 20+ lbs, 40+ lbs by the time they are three and STILL want to be carried around. J’s favourite thing was to want to go on a walk to the river (about 400m from my house and not at all suitable for a stroller) and then be too tired to climb the hill on the way home…

  23. Alexis on March 13, 2012 at 6:03 pm

    Hi Gina,

After months of hints… my husband finally “caved in” and said I could get a Vitamix! So excited. And now I have no idea which model to get. Any suggestions?

…and as for white legs…my Midwestern legs have not seen a ray of sunlight in quite some time either. But now that the weather is nice, I’ll be hitting the trails for some fun runs (with daughter in jogger and son on bike!).

    Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on March 13, 2012 at 7:12 pm

      vitamix victory! haha
i have the 5200 and LOVE it 🙂

  24. Laury on March 13, 2012 at 6:39 pm

Ummmm….seriously you like read my mind with this post.

I wore shorts to the gym today and my legs were whiter than they’ve ever been. I was like…I have NO business with these hairy pale legs in public. Aghh..the life of a new mom 😉

  25. Allison on March 13, 2012 at 7:26 pm

i’m totally down with the pale look, I wear it year round.. i’m in saskatchewan, canada afterall!

  26. Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! on March 13, 2012 at 8:13 pm

  28. Amber L on March 13, 2012 at 8:59 pm

Is she napping in the pack and play in that picture? Just curious if that’s where she naps while you do a workout video. That’s what I plan to do hopefully!

P.S. At least it is just your legs that are pasty…my whole body looks like that! lol

  29. Jessica @ The Process of Healing on March 13, 2012 at 9:17 pm

I’m SUPER pale as well.. the good thing is that it’s still socially acceptable! No judgement!

  30. Diana on March 13, 2012 at 9:48 pm

fire 45 is always killer! i think it’s the hardest of the turbo dvds

  31. Joelle (on a pink typewriter) on March 13, 2012 at 10:24 pm

Love that quote at the end of your post! And hey- my legs are that pasty too.. hopefully not for too much longer!

  32. Katie @ Talk Less, Say More on March 13, 2012 at 10:58 pm

Don’t worry, you’re not alone…I live in So Cal and I’m pretty sure my legs are JUST as pasty white if not worse.

  33. Ali on March 14, 2012 at 12:44 am

I did turbo fire 45 today too!! Cool!! Way to get back into it girly, I am supporting you all the way. <3

  34. Tracy @ Commit to Fit on March 14, 2012 at 10:11 am

I brought Turbo Fire back last week after a very long hiatus and it was fantastic. I am thinking I will tackle Sculpt 30 today!

  35. Abby on March 14, 2012 at 11:45 am

I’ve been reading and loving your blog for the last few weeks! I thought I would step out of lurkdom and ask a question, I’m currently 9 months postpartum and my abs are STILL much weaker than before pregnancy. Are tjere any specific exercises you would recomend to help?

  36. Claire on March 14, 2012 at 11:57 am

Girl I am just as white as you! Haha. I am embracing it! Just last night I was talking about a trip to Vegas to sit by the pools and get a little color! Needs to happen! Have a good one 🙂

  37. Amanda on March 14, 2012 at 7:53 pm

    Hi Gina!
I have a question – what kind of tea do you drink and what do you put in it? I’m looking to give up coffee (my cardiologist recommended it) and I want to replace it with some tea every once in awhile. I’m 23 and want to make some changes and need some help with this coffee part – I love my creamer and my coffee!
    Thanks!! 🙂
