WSU 2012 Playlist

It’s not delivery….

pizza2

it’s dinner, courtesy of my friend Kelly 🙂

She and her baby came over to chill for a while, and brought the Pilot and myself some dinner.

Gluten-free pizza with peppers, basil, and Daiya

pizza3

(the Pilot’s had reg cheese and pepperoni on there- Kelly and her pilot eat almost exactly the same way my Pilot and I do)

an incredible salad

salad7

with greens, wasabi peas (!!!!), nuts, veg, dried cranberries

and Bob’s Red Mill cookies.

cookies4

Pizza and cookies are quite possibly my favorite meal… I’ve been quite the cookie monster while I waited for the pizza to heat up 😉

Thank you guys so much for the amazing feedback on the Winter Shape Up so far! I thought it would be fun to put together some music ideas to go along with it, so here’s what I came up with after asking my Tweeps for their current faves:

“I’m A Machine” David Guetta

“Everyone’s At It” Lily Allen

“International Love” Pitbull ft Chris Brown

“Never Miss a Beat” Kaiser Chiefs

“Bounce” Calvin Harris

“Paris (Radio Version)” Jay Z and Kanye West

“Hang it Up” the Ting Tings

“Boys” M.I.Z

“Walk” Foo Fighters

“We Found Love” Glee

Bonus about staying home this week: I actually saw Glee when it was on instead of DVR. And I cried. So good.

Hope you’re having a gleeful night <3

See ya in the morning!

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What’s your current workout power song? LOVE new playlist ideas, and the iPhone could use a music pick-me-up.

*Thank you to Greatist for featuring Fitnessista in their 60 must-read health and fitness blogs <3 I’m definitely in good company with the other friends on the list.

Oh my gosh – Glee was amazing!!! For so many reasons – best episode in a long time, but I HATE that I have to wait to hear Rachel’s answer. Ahhhh!!!!

  3. Katie on January 18, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Pitbull “Pause”. My FAVORITE Zumba song to get your booty shaking and the sexiness rollin. 😉

  4. HRCK the Herald on January 18, 2012 at 9:05 pm

I TEARED UP IN GLEE TOO! It was SUCH a good episode! I also got a little choked up watching Finn’s face when Rachel was singing Without You to him.

  5. Parita @ myinnershakti on January 18, 2012 at 9:15 pm

The Bollywood song “Desi Girl” is a fun one to work out to. And Bhangra songs are also really fun. 🙂

  6. vicky on January 18, 2012 at 9:16 pm

My favorite power song right now is “Get Outta Your Mind” Lil Jon ft LMFAO. So crunk and crazy! I’m training for a half marathon and no matter how many miles I’ve gone, I will always push so hard when this comes on!

  7. Sara on January 18, 2012 at 9:31 pm

I don’t have a favourite song, but I do have a favourite station for working out. I stream radio M2O from Milan, which plays club mixes all the time (I guess some in Milano need that at 9am?). No matter what time of day, they have perfect workout music.

    • Sara on January 19, 2012 at 1:13 am

Also, I watched two entire seasons of Glee on a long-haul flight. Now I’m addicted.

  8. Donna on January 18, 2012 at 9:32 pm

  9. Alicia A. on January 18, 2012 at 9:33 pm

This isn’t a workout power song but I am obsessed with it and the video right now. Just love it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9NF2edxy-M&feature=youtu.be

  11. mallory on January 18, 2012 at 9:40 pm

I am trying to buy some daiya online! The closest carrier to me is an hour+ away 🙁 I’ve never had it – but since going dairy-free I can’t stop thinking about it. Is it any good?! will my neeeed for cheese be met?!

  12. Tracey on January 18, 2012 at 9:41 pm

You’re so lucky that your friends and family take into account your diet and lifestyle when preparing meals. I feel like every time I go home, I’m criticized for the healthy choices I make!
Did it take your family a long time to adjust to your lifestyle choices? Also, any tips to put out there?!

  13. Morgan @ morganshines on January 18, 2012 at 9:46 pm

I love new playlists! That salad looks fab…you have yourself a great friend there!! “Without You” by David Guetta and Usher is my fav right now

  14. Dusty @ Running to Healthy on January 18, 2012 at 9:53 pm

OMGoodness!!! Glee was amazing. I cannot wait to see what happens next. The pizza your friends brought you looks amazing.

  15. Kelly @ Vegolosophy on January 18, 2012 at 9:57 pm

OMG that meal looks soo good, especially the pizza! YUM! One of my favorite workout songs is called ” Winner” by Justin Timberlake and Jamie Fox. Definitely puts me in a great workout mood!

  16. Lindsey on January 18, 2012 at 10:04 pm

I cried in Glee last night too! Loved the episode 🙂 My favorite workout song right now is Good Feeling by Flo Rida.

  17. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on January 18, 2012 at 10:06 pm

The meals the squadron families are bringing over are SO nice! They really seem to cater to your eating style! That is so sweet of them!
Eminem is a go to of mine for working out! Always pumps me up…especially ‘lose yourself’, ‘the way i am’, and ’till i collapse’.

  18. Sarah @ w30 on January 18, 2012 at 10:10 pm

Great list! Boyz by M.I.A. is one of my power songs (I was the one that tweeted that)! It’s so fast and the beat just makes me want to dance! Two more songs I love are B.O.B by Outkast and, of course, Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger. I actually caught myself punching the air like Rocky one time when that song came on … and I was on a treadmill at my gym. Yeah, I’m cool.

  19. Emily @ The Swallow Flies on January 18, 2012 at 10:14 pm

I don’t care where I am or what I’m doing, but Party Rock Anthem and Don’t Stop Believing ALWAYS get me pumped up!

  20. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on January 18, 2012 at 10:22 pm

I loved Glee this week–such great music. I need to know your opinion on the whole ending with Finn/Rachel!! Do you want her to say yes??

  21. Taylor on January 18, 2012 at 10:36 pm

Love new workout playlists! Ones that work for me:
“Howlin for You” The Black Keys
    “Go Girl” Pitbull
“Got it from my Mama” Will I Am
    “Charmer” Kings of Leon

  22. Dynamics on January 18, 2012 at 10:37 pm

How come my HULU did not put Glee in my Queue? OMG, now you have to pay for it. Dang it. Missed it.
My favorite get the blood pumping music is “I kissed a girl” Not sure why, but this song gets me moving.

  23. Ali on January 18, 2012 at 10:45 pm

Yum! Baby dinners are the best hey? Your friends sure know you well!

  24. Life's a Bowl on January 18, 2012 at 10:53 pm

Pitbull and Jay-Z are good workout fuel… And throw in some Kelly Clarkson- good mix!

  25. E on January 18, 2012 at 11:05 pm

Gina, what shoes do you recommend for Zumba? I have been wearing regular sneakers, but they stick to the floors, so I move awkwardly and I’m afraid of hurting my knee when I try to slide. Usually for dancing I wear heels, which won’t work for Zumba, of course. Do you have any recommendations?

    • Colleen on January 19, 2012 at 8:40 am

dancestore.com has dance sneakers with suede leather soles (they actually look like sneakers, not the ugly jazz split soles.) I have the “Black and White Retro Runner.” I use orthotics with them because the arch support isn’t the best, but otherwise they rock for Zumba AND swing dancing!

      • Fitnessista on January 19, 2012 at 12:58 pm

my faves are the nike huarache dance lows, but they discontinued them 🙁

  26. Emily on January 18, 2012 at 11:26 pm

I have Usher’s “OMG” on my running playlist so it plays at about 4 miles when I usually start getting tired… Perks me right up every time!

Re: My Brest Friend: Last week they announced that it contained a toxic flame retardant (TDCPP) – that was actually *banned* from use in children’s pajamas in the 1970’s because it has been linked to cancer, hormone disruption and other health problems. Absolutely shocking and appalling. Thought you should get a heads-up. Congratulations on Olivia, she is gorgeous, you guys are such awesome parents and you will figure it all out!! 🙂

  28. Kate on January 19, 2012 at 12:32 am

I love working out to songs with a great beat. Currently I’m loving Dramarama’s “Anything, Anything.” I know it’s an oldie – but bouncy and gritty. Bam.

  29. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on January 19, 2012 at 12:54 am

    That dinner…rocks!

First, it’s so colorful! Love it when I can eat the Rainbow 🙂 And the salad, the hearty portion of it, the GF pizza, and those GF cookies?! Kelly gets major props and I hope the Universe blesses her with something nice for her nice dinner for you guys.

Hope you and baby are doing well!

New songs!!!!!! It’s sick that I’m more excited about the new songs than the WSU….only because I’m lazy, but I guess I can do it anyway…. Ever since I moved, I don’t listen to the radio (I haven’t gotten behind the wheel of a car since September) so I have no idea what new songs are out there, and I’m getting so tired of my playlist. Thanks 🙂

  31. Hillary on January 19, 2012 at 7:14 am

One of my favorite workout songs ever is “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse. So freaking good. I have to use all my strength and will power not to start dancing while I’m running.

  32. Cristin on January 19, 2012 at 7:23 am

That Glee episode was amazing… Finn Hudson is by far the cutest teenage boy ever haha

  33. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on January 19, 2012 at 7:46 am

I loved the music on Glee this week! Especially “Summer lovin” from Grease. They did SUCH a good job on it!

My current workout power song is “Good Feeling” by Flo Rida. I’m obsessed!

  34. I am definitely rocking out to Wild Ones – Flo Rida (featuring Sia) – she’s one of my favorite singers and the song will move you!

  35. Catherine on January 19, 2012 at 8:32 am

My current power song is David Guetta and Nicki Minaj “Turn Me On”. Actually, his entire album is great for working on … but this song really gets me pumped up during a run!!

Wow – that supper looks awesome! So nice of them to do that for you 🙂

  36. Colleen on January 19, 2012 at 8:42 am

I love the song “Everybody Loves Me” by One Republic.. It has a good beat for running or elliptical, but has enough drive for lifting. I’ve been listening to it every workout for like a month and a half!

  37. Amanda on January 19, 2012 at 9:04 am

What a great friend. That food looks awesome! And I love the wasabi peas in the salad. Very nice touch. 🙂

  38. Racheal @ Running with Racheal on January 19, 2012 at 9:54 am

Oh, I loved that episode too, but my favorite part was Summer Lovin! 😉

  39. Erika on January 19, 2012 at 9:59 am

HA, this is totally not my taste in music but I’ve been running to “Collapse” by Eminem. It’s both so angry and inspiring at the same time!

    • Fitnessista on January 19, 2012 at 12:22 pm

i love angry music when i work out, too 🙂

  40. Laura @ My Pink Thumb on January 19, 2012 at 10:08 am

My new power song (it changes every couple of weeks after I completely out-play the old one) is “Rain Over Me” by Pitbull feat. Marc Anthony. That gets me sprinting!

  42. Marisa E on January 19, 2012 at 10:59 am

Having good music makes such a difference to my workouts! I’m a fan of music to really motivate me at the gym. My current favorites:
My Feelings for You – Avicii & Sebastian Drums (this one’s been my favorite for so long now!)
Cry Just a Little – Bingo Players
Blessed – Tom Hangs ft Shermanology (Avicii edit) <– OBSESSED!
Wes – Fritz Kalkbrenner (original mix)
    Levels – Avicii
Fade into Darkness – Avicii (Ablin Myers remix)
    Wonderland – Natalia Kills

  45. Leah @ L4L on January 19, 2012 at 11:37 am

I haven’t been able to find GF wasabi peas. Do you know the brand?

  46. Liz @ Southern Charm on January 19, 2012 at 11:48 am

I love Sexy and I know it … not sure of the title, but think that’s it.

Oh and anything with Adele! Something about her is so powerful, I just want to push myself 🙂

  47. Clementine on January 19, 2012 at 12:31 pm

Huge fan of techno to get me through cardio sessions! Some of my favorites are

    Rad Anthem by Rad Omen
    Riot by Designer Drugs
Walking on a Dream by Empire of the Sun (not really techno but try NOT charging it when that song comes on – I dare you)
Supermassive Black Hole Emre B remix – Muse

I could go on – I make playlists when I’m bored haha!

  48. Wendy Heath on January 19, 2012 at 12:39 pm

Oh man. I have a few songs. Currently mostly for running…

“Not Your Fault” by AWOLNATION because I can vary pace easily with it
“Marry the Night” by Lady Gaga
“Bang Bang” by 3Oh!3 and their NSFW song, “Dirty Mind” (very dirty, but really good to pound out a faster sprint to)

Did the WSW week one yesterday and my quads are on FIRE… @_@ good burn!!!

  49. Emily on January 19, 2012 at 1:05 pm

Ugh. Everyone is talking about Glee (and I am no exception. I loved it. It was SO GOOD!)

    Those cookies look unreal. Yum!

  50. Deanna on January 19, 2012 at 4:26 pm

Loving We Found Love especially the new Glee version! I am always making playlists and working on my next list for next week. Here are some of my latest running songs: http://deannaferrari.com/playlists/
