yoga sandwich (+ playlist help!)

Hi friends! How are you?? Happy Monday! Hope your week is off to a great start. Did you do anything fun this weekend? Ours passed in such a blur, but it was definitely filled with family and friend time, unpacking more boxes, and delicious food. It was also a yoga sandwich: it started off and pretty much ended with yogaaaaaa.

I took class Friday morning to prepare for my upcoming classes -I start teaching classes again TONIGHT! I’m so pumped to have *real* classes again- and since I had a sitter for a couple of hours, I went to Birdie’s Market to get some work done. I ate breakfast by myself, and it was pretty glorious to take my time eating. Usually I’m standing at the kitchen counter shoving bites down my face.

The simple breakfast with scrambled eggs, fruit, and the crispiest, saltiest potatoes:

Birdies breakfast

I’ve only been to Birdie’s twice, but it’s one of my favorite places in Valdosta. The shop is SO cute. It’s packed with local treats, handmade gifts, and decor.

(They were working on a giant cheese board while I was there. #casual)

During P’s nap, Liv and I colored and played some games, then after the girls had lunch, we spent the afternoon at the park. Dinner was an easy stir fry, and the Pilot and I finally watched La La Land.

La la fail

The verdict? I thought it was so disappointing. After the opening number, I was like “YESSSSSS” because I loved the old-school Broadway style dancing. Sadly, there wasn’t nearly as much dancing as I’d hoped, and I found the storyline to be pretty meh. The entire movie was spent swooning over Emma Stone’s costumes and the fact that Ryan Gosling is kind of nice to look at. That’s pretty much where it ended.

Saturday was P’s first gymnastics class!!! I can’t believe that she’s already in gymnastics, and she looked so stinkin’ cute in her little leotard.

Tiny gymnast

The Pilot and I switched out helping her in class (the parents help out since the kiddos are so little!), and Liv enjoyed hanging in the waiting room for once.

She said, “Usually P is in here eating snacks and cheering for me, and now I get to eat snacks and cheer for her.”

Liv and me

Later that afternoon, we went to a friends’ birthday party. It was pretty much the coolest kids’ party ever, since they had a beautiful backyard pool + this enormous inflatable water slide. (Mom fail: I didn’t know it was a water party, so we just let Liv play in the water in her ivivva clothes.) The kids went crazy, and it was so much fun to spend the afternoon hanging out and chatting with friends. We feel really fortunate that our Valdosta friends have just swooped us in, and have made us feel so welcomed.

Water slide

Dinner was takeout from Friends (kale salad with chicken), and a late night unpacking. I finally finished our room and my closet (WOOF), and you can see the floor! Victories all around.

Sunday morning was church with friends,

Tom and p at church

After church

(shoes are here; they’re the perfect height)

breakfast at home (the Annie’s cinnamon rolls are SO GOOD), and the usual errands and chores.

When the house is finally really finished, I feel like we can just focus on adulting, parenting, and working. Having to do the usual life and work stuff, in addition to unpacking the whole house, has not exactly been a picnic. The good news is that the end is in sight! (And I’ll finally stop talking about it on the blog haha. It feels like it’s been consuming my life.)

Dinner: homemade Chipotle-style bowls with chicken, black beans, rice, guac, romaine and salsa.

Burrito bowls

How was your weekend? Any highs or lows?

Also, yoga friends: would you please help me with my playlist?! I posted an old one here, but since I haven’t taught yoga in forever, it needs an update. I’d love to hear your favorites right now!

Have a very happy Monday!

xoxo

Same re La La Land. Other than the opening I didn’t think the singing or dancing was comparable to classic musicals. And why can’t we have an ending where the people we just devoted two hours of our lives to make it? It was definitely over-hyped.

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2017 at 8:39 am

the opening made me so excited, but the rest was a huge letdown

Looks so green there! We had a sub instructor for yoga this weekend. She only played music during really challenging poses to distract from the pain. Lol. I really liked it for some reason.

ohhh i like that idea 🙂

we use the “yin bliss” playlist off of Spotify for class sometimes; it’s almost an hour. I also will search “yoga playlists” or “stress relief/relaxation” play those as background music when I’m at work, and if I hear something I really like, I search that artist to help me build custom playlists.

I agree on La La Land.. I was so excited to find it available on my flight to Honolulu, but it definitely did not live up to the hype! At least it killed a couple hours of the 9 hour flight! 😉 Have a great weekend!

    • Alana on May 1, 2017 at 6:51 am

      *week!
Clearly, I am wishing it was Friday!

Sounds like a FUN weekend! I passed my LAST FINAL for nutrition practitioner school so I’m totally pumped! Only one class left and it’s social media which I’m guessing I won’t have any trouble with. 😉

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2017 at 8:36 am

hahah i think you’ll do just fine on that one 😉

  7. Katie A on May 1, 2017 at 9:49 am

My theory on La La Land is that people in the industry went wild for it because “OMG, that’s exactly how I started out in LA!” And the rest of us were just like …??

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2017 at 9:53 am

Exactly. Tom called it the self-licking ice cream cone lol

  8. Jamie @ madrediem on May 1, 2017 at 9:54 am

Everyone thinks I’m crazy because I was less than impressed by La La Land. The opening number and then the dance/song in the hills was awesome, but other than that I wasn’t in love with it. Womp womp.

Our high was spending 6 hours at the beach on Saturday – my low was my awful sunburn I got at the beach. I’m so crazy about sunscreen but I think my sunscreen must have gone bad or something 🙁 I use the chemical free stuff and it was only about 9 months old, but I am super burnt and not too happy about it. Live and learn!

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2017 at 7:38 pm

yes, the opening number was so great!!! glad i’m not alone, though. i thought i was missing something!
ahhh sorry to hear about your sunburn 🙁 happy to hear you had fun, though!

LOoks like you had a great weekend. Glad you are going to church. I would recommend going to this band, for KING and COUNTRY concert in a couple of weeks, they are amazing live. You should go with the pilot.

So awesome, Gina. So good to hear.

  10. Amanda on May 1, 2017 at 11:29 am

YES — your verdict about La La Land was exactly how I felt! It’s nice to read that you and other commenters had the same disappointment as I did to the movie. My friends and fam all raved about it, and I was the odd one out.

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2017 at 7:36 pm

i’m so glad i’m not alone.

We just closed on a new house this past Friday and even though we are only moving about 15 minutes away, the process is exhausting! I can’t wait to have everything moved, unpacked and be settled in our new home, and be back to normal life!

  15. India on May 1, 2017 at 6:22 pm

I don’t mind the packing stories one bit – shows us a bit behind-the-scenes. I’m glad you’re able to see the floor more after this weekend. 🙂 Hope yoga is tons of fun. Just did one of your Barre videos on YouTube and loved it.

    • Fitnessista on May 1, 2017 at 7:34 pm

so happy you enjoyed it! and yes, it’s so nice that things are falling into place 🙂

I was literally waiting to see what a yoga sandwich was! Hehe, that sounds like the best kind of day! I’m going to need some yoga sandwiches in my life. My weekend was lovely, two birthday brunches with some heavy weightlifting in between! A good balance of work and play 🙂 Have a great week!

  17. Kayla on May 2, 2017 at 5:28 am

    1. Aw sad to hear you didn’t love La La Land! But Emma Stone’s costumes are pretty fabulous.

    2. For yoga playlists, I’m currently obsessed with playing Lux Arumque during savasana. I sang it in choir growing up and I swear it sounds like a sound bath it’s GORGEOUS and on spotify.

  18. Kristen on May 2, 2017 at 5:31 am

I had a teacher in D.C. who would play Van Morrison’s “Sweet Thing” at the end of class. Sometimes even during savasna. And it was so soulful and lovely and different. I now feel calmer every time I hear the song.

  19. Carrie on May 2, 2017 at 5:49 am

I wasn’t a huge fan of LaLaland–way overrated!! That bouncy slide looks like ao much fun hah! I miss those days!! Also that cheeseboard, um YES PLEASE.

That inflatable water slide looks like so much fun! I would have loved playing on hat as a kid. Who am I kidding, I’d have fun playing on it as an adult!

  22. Julie on May 2, 2017 at 1:20 pm

We were underwhelmed by LalaLand, too. Couldn’t figure out how it won so many awards. Liv’s comment about cheering for P during gymnastics was precious. <3 I'm so happy you guys are feeling so welcomed & everything is turning out so well for you in Valdosta. XO

  23. Samantha on May 2, 2017 at 4:37 pm
