You’ve gotta break a couple eggs…

Hi friends! The weekend is in sight! Thank goodness 🙂

Class was a blast last night. We had 7 people (wahoo!!) and when I told the Pilot we made a grand profit of $5 for the night (after studio costs), he said:

“Well Gina, you’ve gotta break a couple eggs to make an omelet”

I laughed for about 5 minutes. The Pilot and I always say random proverbs to each other, whether or not they’re applicable to the situation (Example: The Pilot says “Work was lame today” and I say “Well, Tommy, a rolling stone gathers no moss”. We’re weird like that.. and get a kick out of it)

After I got home, it was Indian food time:

channa

A massaged kale salad (using dinosaur kale to switch things up), topped with a container of Trader Joe’s channa masala. I still don’t know how I lived without a Trader Joe’s for 3 years. I made it happen, but it was rough- I love it so much.

Then, Bella drowned her bird:

bird

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this on the blog yet, but Bella eats ALL the time. Whenever someone watches her for the weekend, I have to make sure she has a fresh bag of food, because she’ll probably eat most of it. She’ll clank her bowl around, walk over to you with a defiant look on her face and repeat until you feed her. Well last night, I was eating dinner and Bella had just finished a bowl of food and started clanking it around for more. She walked over to me with the bird in her mouth, over to the bowl and dropped the bird in the water. She walked back over to me as if to say “see what I did to the bird? Feed me, or you’re next”

Goofer.

Last night, I also packed up my lunch so that it would be ready to take to work this morning:

lunch

Salad beast with arugula, chickpeas, tomato, bell pepper, balsamic dressing, oregano, Garlic Gold

+ blackberries and an amazeball

This morning, all I have to do is make a quick smoothie and grab an apple for snacks.

I’m off to make b-fast and then walk Bella on base before work.

Hope you have an amazing day <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What are your tips for tackling a daunting project? I do pretty well with daily to-do lists and getting my ish done, but when it comes to something huge, it takes a lot more to get the ball rolling. I plan to start my new book proposal this weekend (I’ve done one before that didn’t sell, started another one and didn’t finish and now have a third idea, which I would ROCK but just need to get it out there), but have been avoiding it. I’m excited about this one because it’s really not cookbook/fitness-related, but is more geared towards women who are married to military men or have to move constantly with their family. How do you tackle huge projects?

Good luck with your proposal! So exciting : )

Bella sounds like she’s a blast, I love quirky pets!!!! Plus she’s so freaking cute!

My dogs would eat all day if I left food out and subsequently turn into piggy dogs! Bella’s mannerisms crack me the eff up, as do your random proverbs… too funny! This is going to sound so bad to type, but my boyfriend and I have a “game” where one of us will say to the other one “You’re a crazy bitch” and the other one responds with “No, YOU’RE a crazy bitch.” Not funny to anyone but us probably, lol! ;D

Your book proposal sounds great, good luck with it! Bella is really cute as well, love that photo of her. 🙂

Best of luck with your new book endeavors…yes you will rock that topic!! When projects are big, huge, and looming in front of me…usually I put it off for awhile and then one day, I just start. Or something happens that just makes me HAVE to start it.

Not that the two are comparable, but when I switched my blog from blogger (after almost 2 yrs and a thousand posts) to self hosted WP, I had been putting it off for almost…2 yrs. And finally things got to the point that i was losing readers b/c blogger sucked so badly for me…so I just HAD to switch. I just had to dive in. Random story, I realize 🙂

And saying random stuff to your spouse…yep. (nods head in agreement)

    🙂

I usually wait till the last minute for huge projects! I am such a procrastinator! Unless I have a clear plan of what I want to do then I start tackeling it immediately! You and your pilot are super cute! love your sayings to each other!

Whenever I have to tackle a daunting project I have to give myself breaks! That helps me a ton. Also, if the project has a bunch of tasks…I order them from the ones I hate to do to the ones I like to do…that way I get the not so fun stuff out of the way first! 🙂

    Gina!

I think your NEW book idea sounds amazing!!! I am wishing you the best with that! I love a book that hits home for alot of people and has alot of heart ; ) I know it will be great! Good luck writing it up!

Bella is the sweetest ever! Just post pics of here everyday and I will be so HAPPY!!

Please write that book! 🙂 I would totally buy it. I’m dating a boy at the air force academy, so it’s definitely a topic I think about more than I used to. your blog is my fave 🙂 hope you’re having a great day!

I am horrible at starting huge projects… I tend to put it off until I just can’t any more. So unfortunately have no suggestions. I’m great at day to day stuff… I rock my hand written list with giant check marks, but something big… ughhhh. If you figure that one out, would love to read a post on it bc I suck at that. It took me almost a whole YEAR to just start my blog… lol. And that wasn’t a huge deal or something I didn’t want to do!?

  12. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on February 10, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Sometimes I feel like Bella. On certain days I think I could eat all day long!

    • Fitnessista on February 10, 2011 at 6:52 pm

i think bella picked up her garbage disposal ways from her mother 😉

  13. Caitlin (EatFeats) on February 10, 2011 at 5:22 pm

That sounds like a very helpful book! My best advice is “just do it,” but that is not constructive for everyone!

  14. Ashley V on February 10, 2011 at 5:36 pm

Seven people! That’s great. I wish your studio was near me haha, I would definitely go. Out o curiosity, are you stil at lulu? Or mainly in the studio? I just got hired at the lulu here and start next week. So pumped!!!!

    • Fitnessista on February 10, 2011 at 6:52 pm

yep, still at lulu too! you’ll love it

Hi Gina, I’m coming out of lurking to say that I think your idea of a book geared to military families is amazing! I’m about to take the leap into that world myself and I know that a book like that would be something I would look forward to reading. Good luck!

    • Fitnessista on February 10, 2011 at 6:52 pm

awesome, thank you and thanks for saying hi!

  16. Joni on February 10, 2011 at 6:06 pm

Have you considered writing your fitness-related book & selling it as an ebook on your blog? Just a thought – I would buy it!

    • Fitnessista on February 10, 2011 at 6:52 pm

i have, but am going to try an outside publisher first

  17. KimLivesHealthy on February 10, 2011 at 6:30 pm

Well Gina, you gotta eat the elephant one bite at a time 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 10, 2011 at 6:51 pm

      LOL

This post made me laugh out loud (at work). Bella sounds so funny and cute! This Pilots sayings are funny too! He seems so supportive, even when he is far away. Good luck with the book, sounds quite inspiring!

  19. Amy on February 10, 2011 at 7:38 pm

I just OMG’d because you referred to the Pilot as something other than the Pilot! And on that note, if his name really is Tommy aka Thomas (as my loveys is) does it bug you when people call him Tom? LOL

    • Fitnessista on February 10, 2011 at 8:50 pm

its tom, but i tease him by calling him tommy haha

I break it up into small bits to try to get it started. Or I start where I’m comfortable then, fill in where I missed once I get the ball rolling.

    Good luck on your proposal!

When I tackle a huge project, I break it down into manageable tasks/goals. It helps keep me from becoming overwhelmed!!

  22. Heather C on February 10, 2011 at 8:56 pm

GINA! You have to write that book! My husband isn’t in the USMC anymore but Lord knows I read every book out there then and every single one was so outdated.

    • Fitnessista on February 10, 2011 at 8:57 pm

exactly- all the ones i’ve read have been either very old or very boring

  23. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on February 10, 2011 at 9:39 pm

Your new book idea sounds perfect. I think you have so many helpful and insightful things to say on that topic! 🙂

  24. Laura on February 11, 2011 at 2:33 pm

My cat likes to drown her toys too. Most mornings I find them in her water dish. And we don’t dare forget to put the lid down on the toilet- her toy mice are in there within seconds!

Your book idea sounds great! So many of the books out there are geared towards military wives with children, I think it would be interesting to read something from a non-mom perspective.

    I love massaged kale!

I try to tackle daunting projects by giving myself a pep talk and getting excited about the end result. 🙂
