Zumba in my bones

Hey everyone! Hope you’re having a great night! I didn’t get my Indian Food fix tonight since I had to work late, but don’t you fret, we have an Indian date with friends tomorrow night. 😀 Did anyone else celebrate Indian Food Wednesday??

Dude, Zumba was BOMB. Spin was a lot of fun, too, but I just forgot how much I really love teaching Zumba. I just feel it in my bones 😀 I was also happy that my class wasn’t totally empty since I’ve been gone –I was secretly worried I’d have no people!- and they all liked the carob peanut butter vegan cookies from ED&BV (I adapted the “There’s Peanut Butter in My Chocolate” recipe and used carob powder instead of cocoa).

cookie dough

I always have a distraction snack while I’m baking to keep myself from setting aside too much dough for my face. Today it was an apple with mesquite and cinnamon and two kiwis.

applecinnkiwi

I still had some dough, but not nearly as much as I would have had without my distraction snack. I’ve found that it’s easy to eat more of something just because it’s “healthy” (even healthy desserts) and having some fruit or something else makes me keep portion control in check.

Lonchi was a my favorite Natalia Rose-inspired salad beast.

Spinach, spiralized beet, grape tamaters, basil, goat jack cheese, Italian seasoning, sea salt and balsamic vinegar. In the water glass is H2O and a ts of MSM powder from my Postman shipment (side note: for those of you who are trying to register for Earth Shift, try the promo code E100. I’m pretty sure that’s the one I used- I had to google it.)

I figured as I use each of my new goodies, I’d share some info about the products since quite a few of them are strange and foreign. About 90% of the stuff I bought, I didn’t know about until I went to School.

Let me start off by saying I don’t think anyone needs to take supplements or buy crazy superfoods. You can get more than enough nutrients but eating a healthy diet and taking a regular ol’ multivitamin for insurance. I just like to buy fun new stuff 🙂

MSM powder benefits: (from this website)

  1. Helps our bodies to absorb more nutrients
  2. Increases oxygen availability to the body
  3. Elevates energy levels
  4. Helps eliminate toxins and lactic build-up from strenuous exercise
  5. Can aid in recovery time, muscle aches and pains and reduce inflammation
  6. Helps with mental alertness
  7. Proven to aid in allergy reduction
  8. Reduces headaches, pain and cramps from hormonal imbalances

*The recommended daily dose is 2-6 grams

It tastes like nothing and has a lot of benefits. I’m pretty stoked to add it to my daily H20, especially with how much I exercise. Sahweeeeet.

I packed up some hummus and veggies to munch in between teaching and my training appointment:

(Water spots! The horror! I use Jet Dry, I swear)

And some coconut water for electrolyte replenishment:

I also had some Vega sport (review to come!) for the first time before teaching.

Here’s today’s spin playlist:

(Any other Michael Buble lovers in the house?)

I feel like there aren’t a lot of new songs I like out right now. Hurry up, Twilight soundtrack 😀

In between j-o-bs, I stopped at the casa to let Bella out and grabbed and handful of Mary’s crack on my way to the other gym.

I’ve been looking forward to these all the livelong day:

For those of you who are asking for the kale chip recipe, I posted it with the macaroon recipe. Which I never posted. 😉 Sorry friends, I’m keeping it locked in the dehydrator of secret Gina recipes for now. You’ll find out why, hopefully by next Friday (fingers crossed, if some jokers start calling me back! Haha). Sorry to be sneaky (I get so annoyed when people are like “I have something to tell you!!! But I’m not telling you yet”), but as soon as I get something tangible to show, ya’ll will be the first to know about everything. 😀

Have a great night and I’ll see you tomorrow!

xoxo,

G$

Edited to say: Don’t forget that the Vega giveaway ends tonight! Winner will be announced at 8EST tomorrow morning!

Say Hey (I Love You) is the BEST workout song! It is amazing for running. I had in on a 3 song loop during my 1 mile race. I wish I could take a spin class with it!

  8. Teresa on October 14, 2009 at 11:03 pm

Every time I see your kale chips, I loooong for a dehydrator (and it’s not something I really want). They look so damn good! Well, at least maybe some day soon I will be able to make (or buy?) your mouth-watering macaroons.

I really like the fruit snacking trick while baking. Fruit is like dessert to me anyways.

You might have addressed this in an older post, so if you did I’m sorry (still a relatively new reader here). But what exactly is Zumba? I’ve never heard of it, but the name itself sounds like the funnest exercise I’ve never done. I’m sure it would be the best class with you as the teacher!

I LOVE Michael Buble! 🙂 Have you heard his new single, Haven’t Met You Yet? Amazing.

Hey Gina! I tried Zumba for the first time TONIGHT… it was a lot of fun and I am excited to go back again.
My instructor was a man, which seemed kinda strange(only because i’ve never had a male exercise class teacher), and it was his first teaching experience, but it was fabulous! I’m not a great dancer, but i sure got a workout! It would be fun to take your class, you should post some vids with your routines!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2009 at 9:07 am

i’m so glad you liked it!
i posted two videos a while ago but took them down because i was sick of dealing with comment haters. i might be posting some new ones though 😀

  15. Shelby on October 15, 2009 at 6:27 am

The Fitnessista’s Raw Cookbook? Is that it?! I. would. die.

  16. carolinebee on October 15, 2009 at 7:25 am

I can’t wait to take zumba when i go home for a weekend! If u look up David Guetta on itunes, he has a new cd of a bunch of remixes out right now- good stuff!! Perfect for “going out” music 😀

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2009 at 9:06 am

ooh thanks for letting me know! i’m off to itunes 😀

  17. Kristie Lynn on October 15, 2009 at 7:34 am

I have been in love with Michael Buble for years…. so much so that when my husband and I were first dating, I told him that I would always be in love with Michael and he was just going to have to be okay with that 😉 I mean, come on, the good lucks and the amazing voice? Too much to handle!!

    • Fitnessista on October 15, 2009 at 9:05 am

seriously. he is the ultimate dream boat 😀

  18. Brittany on October 15, 2009 at 8:55 am

Gotta love Zumba- it’s so fun, plus it’s a great workout. You seriously can’t ask for me.

The first two songs on your playlist are the first two songs on my work-out playlist! I never liked Miley before but Party in the USA is way too catchy.

Although I’m said the kale chip recipe is going into the vault, I’m with the others- I think you should either release a cookbook or start your own business with raw goodies for sale. 🙂

  19. Teri on October 15, 2009 at 9:01 am

i had indian food wednesday – homemade chana masala over brown long rice with some roasted veggie. amazing!

thanks for posting the spin playlist!

  20. Tina on October 15, 2009 at 9:17 am

definitely give it a whirl! i think you’ll love it 😀

  21. Jess on October 15, 2009 at 9:21 am

I love the idea of the distraction snack! That’s really a great idea for when you’re cooking. I might have to steal that idea since I’m always snacking on ingredients!

  22. CaSaundra on October 15, 2009 at 9:23 am

Do I sense a Fitnessista recipe book in the works? 🙂

  23. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on October 15, 2009 at 9:46 am

So funny that you’re having Indian food night tonight – I too have a date with my (Indian) roomie to check out Curry Spot, which opened up a block away from our place in Brooklyn recently. We are stoked! Plus Diwali is this Saturday, which is a huge Indian holiday–festival of lights and all. We are considering tonight’s dinner Diwali kick-off. I hope your Indian resto is appropriately decorated! Wish you could come to our Diwali party in a couple of weeks too! It would rock your face off – the roomie is an excellent Indian chef–she lightens everything up. 🙂

    Daydreaming of roti-toti-toti…

  24. Julie on October 15, 2009 at 12:13 pm

I love that playlist!! Some great songs on there, I have some on a playlist and it really pumps me up.

I like your healthy snack while baking trick. I love to bake and end up over doing it in the taste-testing department every time. I try to use “will power” to snow sample as much but it fails. Next time, I will use your trick!!

I’m not goiong to sleep until I figure out how to get my hands on some pepita butter!
