T-Town Vacay Part 4
Hey guys! Happy Sunday to ya 😀 Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! We’re still having a blasty here in Tucson and even though it’s a bummer we leave tonight, I’m excited to see the puppies.. I miss their little faces
(Megan, who’s watching the little munchkins, emailed that to me)
We had a beautiful brunch at my nana’s house after I last posted.
She used to own a catering company and everything she makes is guaranteed to be a delicious feast. For this impromptu gathering, she had made green chili egg soufflé with pico de gallo, country potatoes, sausage, wheat biscuits, fruit platter, blueberry pancakes, muffins and a Bundt cake. It was heavenly.
Here’s my plate:
Egg soufflé (which I went back for seconds of- it’s my favorite), watermelon, wheat biscuit, cantaloupe and strawberries.
We went to church, which I’ve missed so much but can’t stand our church in V-town so I haven’t been in FOREVER, and then after spending time with the guy (or woman) in the sky, I came home to fend for myself against a spiteful anonymous comment – good times, good times.
After that little adrenaline kick, I met up with some fellow bloggies at Frost – a gelato shop here that I’d never tried before!
Here I am with Allison (who brought me a bottle of vino and a super cute shirt from her gym.. she knows the way to my heart!), Patrick and Jennifer, and Alexis.
And “the goods”:
I got the cantaloupe and mango sorbet, which were dairy-free (and still creamy! How’d they do that?!) and super refreshing. We’ll be back for sure!
We had so much fun chatting with everyone, and afterwards we hit up Fleet Feet to shop it up.
They did the thing where they made me run on the treadmill barefoot:
And then we watched it in slow-mo- my right foot is still pronating:
I tried on a lot of shoes but picked my trusty Asics:
And the pilot found the camera on the treadmill and snapped a pic of himself:
So. Much. Fun. Thanks again to Allison, Alexis, Patrick and Jennifer for meeting up with us!!!
After our awesome bloggy meet-up, we went to the madre’s casa, where she was grilling out dinner for the familia.
I made the guacamole using the standard ingredients and ate some atop brown rice chips:
And MY FAVORITE SALSA!
Madre made grilled sockeye salmon for me (with maple syrup, orange juice and zest, salt, pepper and ginger)
And steaks for everyone else (yes, we have a huge family! I think around 12 people were over last night)
Corn:
Potatoes:
Fruit bowl:
Peppers and onions:
and veggies!
I made a salmon salad and topped it with grilled veggies and peppers:
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh.
Well I’m off to pack and enjoy our last day here with the familia. We have an overnight flight back to Jacksonville and then we’re driving back to Valdosta in the morning. I’ll see ya in the near future, proably delirious, from the airport 😉
Take care,
G$
That meet-up looks like so much fun! We had good luck at Fleet Feet finding my husband some shoes for his non-existent arch. Have a safe flight and enjoy the rest of the day with your family!
Fleet feet looks super cool! Sounds like you had a great trip.
Sounds like a fun little vacay! Sorry about the anonymous commenter — that person wasn't very nice. I am curious about one thing though, do you not eat dairy products? I know you eat ice cream every once in a while, which seems like a great approach, but I'm just curious about milk/cheese/yogurt? Is it because you eat mostly raw during the day? Thanks! I'm just curious — no matter how or why or what you eat, I am not judging you!
Yeah, judging by this post I'd say you certainly don't deny yourself! 😉 You know whats up.
Canaloupe/mango sorbet…um Heaven?
I think that an overnight flight calls for a stop at WF in Jax before you head home! Enjoy your last day of vacay. 🙂
The pups will definitely be psyched to see you when you return!!
Fabulous meet ups!! Hope that your last day with the family goes well too.
haha the running thing is really cool, and i love the pilot's snapshot! Lol.
that sorbet looks delicious!
-muffy
That picture of the puppies is so cute! And the food looks so so good! Salmon salad – yum! Guac – yum! Cantaloupe and Mango sorbet – yum!
I hope you have a safe (and speedy) trip home! Enjoy the rest of the time with the family!
I love Heredez Salsa too! The salsa verde is also way yummy.
I will have to seek out brown rice chips -? Sounds good!
Correction – Herdez salsa. BTW, don't let that weird comment get to you at all. You look amazing!
Sounds like you have had a fabulous vcay! The Pilot cracks me up! Sounds like something my husband would do since he gets board when we shop together! HA!
Your salmon salad looks so delish!
aww the puppies are adorable–it looks like they're both doing the Zoolander "blue steel" look 🙂 Glad you're having a great time!
Ugh….I love that people say things that are mean and sign them Anon. Seriously- if you think you're so right- put an actual name. What a loser
Any who- gelato looks SO tasty as does all of your nana’s cooking! Glad you're enjoying your time. I bet the puppers can't wait to see you
What a great meet up!! That running thing looks so cool! You know I'm all over those grilled veggies 🙂
G$, it's like that song…hater's they gonna hate! Ignore those comments, don't let them bring you down! Have a safe trip home!
I'm really impressed and proud of you for addressing the silly anonymous people who feel the need to be derogatory. I think those people need to be put in their place.
aww what a cute meetup 🙂 love the treadie pick of your hubs!
Your mom cooked a FEAST! go mrs.g$ thats awesome! glad you had a great time being home!
I am curious about caronae's question as well. Most healthy-eating bloggers eat a ton of yogurt, but I notice it doesn't pop up very often in your blog.
Personally, I prefer your blog because you eat a lot of veggies and fish, which are cheaper for me to add to my diet than the ubiquitous Greek yogurt + granola! 🙂
man that anon comment was ridiculous! Crazies out there I tell ya. But you handled it well 🙂 Yay..food blogger meet up! Looks like gooood times!
hahhaa…your hubby is too funny in that picture on the treadmill. classic.
and great meet up! i'm so glad you had a great time in Tuscon!
What a fun meetup! And the gelato (well, sorbet) you got looks so refreshing. I can't say I've ever had canataloupe flavored sorbet, but it sounds very summery and delicious!
Yay I had so much fun! Have a safe flight back!
glad you had fun!! asics are always the trusty way to go for me, too! that salmon/salad/veggie dinner looks awesome! im not much of a fruity sorbet person myself. i prefer coffee flavored or tiramsu or pb or vanilla- that kind of stuff!
aww girlie it sounds like your having a blast!! woah that egg soufle sounds amazing!
blogger meet up sounds like fun!
I love frost, so yummy! You so have me missing my hometown right now. I also love Wildflower which is at the other end of that shopping center. They have the BEST scallops I have ever had in my entire life. AMAZING!
I dont eat fish or meat but I will say your mama can cook, girlfriend! The food looked great!
I've never had that foot analysis done, but I need to! I have all kinds of stuff goin' on from running. Anyway, hope your new shoes help you out and good luck getting back to V Town and here's to a smooth travel day for you guys.
Your T-Town vacay sounded unbelieveable. I'm sure you savored every moment of unforgettable memories with the fam.
Wish you a safe flight home my dear.
Take care darling.
Oh wow, all of your food looks so good!
Wow! I don't even know where to start, your day was super cool. From the meet up, to the shoe shopping, to the eats…. glad you're having fun, and again it's amazing how well your family accommodates you, you must be an awesome daughter or your parents are just that amazing or both.
I LOVE reading your blog but haven't commented…I've gone back and forth, from anorexia to a binge/restrict cycle, and your blog is an inspiration for the healthy lifestyle I am looking for in my own life.
I do have to say, as an recover-ee of anorexia, I wanted to address the anonymous comment that you got.
It sounded to me like it was someone who actually had (or had had) an eating disorder themelves. While in anorexia itself and recovery, it was triggering to see other people eating healthily. I would try to convince people to eat unhealthy food, and it was purely anorexia's sick desire to make me the skinniest (what I then thought meant the "healthiest" in any situation).
ALSO as an anorexic recoverer, I see absolutely no signs of anorexia in your eating habits (but I think everybody already knew that). You eat to make yourself feel good – as an anorexic, I ate to be skinny.
FINALLY – anorexia is VERY serious and VERY personal, and it shouldn't be thrown around, used as an insult, or even as an accusation.
You responded really well, and I will continue to read your blog.
I have a fabulous Fleet Feet here in Chicago too – but when I run on the treadmill they never ask me to do it barefoot, that's so interesting.
I'm sure they can tell more about your pronation, etc. that way so that sounds like a great idea!
Another great idea: cantaloup sorbet.. mm…..
Your pups are so adorable…. such cute faces!
I need some new tennis shoes… maybe that will inspire me to get my ass to the gym.
Love,
Kristen
Of course I had to go back and read the comment. I love how you recommended yoga. That kicks ass.
I am currently going through a jar of Herdez salsa every two days, thanks to you.
Big hugs girl, don't listen to the haters!!!
your comment was SO true! people who say stuff like that are just jealous that they aren't as healthy and well balanced as your are! have fun!!
I think I may have to recreate that cantelope gelato in my food processor! Frozen cantelope here I come!
Ooh, some people are always just looking for a way to put others down! Especially when they can hide behind a computer. And not to get on a rant, but if more people denied themselves once in awhile instead of feeling like they are owed everything the minute they want it, maybe we would not have so many health issues in this country! Phew, I am done! 🙂
You handled it so well! I hope you enjoy the rest of your vacay. I love your blog and find it inspirational that you eat so well and do enjoy a splurge once in awhile.
Its fun to get new shoes 🙂
I agree with you 200% about Herdez–its been my favorite for years.
Looky at the puppers! 😀 So cute!
Glad you got to get away and have a fabbo time Gina! 🙂
YAAAAY fun times in T-Town. My ex-boyfriend used to work for a running shoe store in Boston called Marathon Sports, and ever since he analyzed my stride back in the day, I have enjoyed my sneaks so much more! Definitely worth the footsie diagnosis. 🙂
Safe travels on your return!
i really dont understand these anon peeps leaving mean comments when they have NO info about you or your life – but who gives a sh!t…like k said haters are gonna hate, and there is nothing you can do but keep on living your life the way you do. eff that person who pretends to be concerned about you. i loved your response.
now. as for the rest of the vacay…have a blast with the fam, and hopefully your layovers on the way back will be as awesome as your one on the way there!
Oh my goodness, I'm pretty sure I need a shiba inu now after seeing that sweet little face! Hope you've gotten back safely and delay free!
I absolutely love salmon. Looks so good! I'm also obsessed with Guacamole! You're lucky your mom is such a great cook!!! Those ice creams look very creamy as well.
I have a Fleet Feet by me and they do not have the treadmill thing! That looks very cool…I'd like to try that out!
I really need to find a place to get fitted for shoes like that. Sounds like you are having a great trip! The pups will be excited to see you when you get back.
Looks like you had a great time in AZ!! That gelato looks amazing!! 🙂
HA i can't decide what's better- your link back to their asinine comment, or your kick ass response 😀
Sounds like a lovely trip- minus the dentista but it's all good- all the Mexican foodness is my idea of perfection! Have a safe trip home!
