Recent books I’ve loved
Sharing the books Iโve read recently and if I recommend adding them to your collection.ย
Hi friends! How are you? How was the weekend? I had high hopes for Halloween fun, but ended up getting sick. I had to miss Pโs birthday party, which was devastating, but madre and Tom took the reins and all of the kids had a great time. Thankfully, Iโm much better today and am getting an IV later this morning. This weekend, I binge watched Never Have I Ever and spent a lot of time reading in bed, which was a treat.
I havenโt had as much time to read lately. Weโre officially in the holiday whirlwind, and with client test results (I looove going through them but itโs definitely a time commitment), the girlsโ schedules, the Pilotโs schedule, itโs just been wild around here. Also, weโve all been going to bed a little too late, and since I have to do my eye mask before bed, it really squashes some of my reading plans lol. Iโm really trying to create more reading blocks throughout the day, and Iโm so looking forward to November travel (Palm Springs and Arkansas) so I can read during all of the plane travel.
Something that has made it a bit easier to squeeze in reading time: my Kindle! I LOVE this is one fits in my purse and Iโm not tempted to scroll on my phone. Itโs been pretty convenient to tote this around with me!
There have been a couple of incredible books in my life lately, and Iโm excited to share the details with ya.
Recent books Iโve loved
XOXO, Cody
If youโre going to read this book, I definitely recommend the Audible version so you can hear it in Codyโs voice! What a treasure of a human. I had high expectations for this one – I expected it to be highly entreating – and it didnโt disappoint. It gives you all of the laughs and warm fuzzies of an XO, Cody Peloton ride, while you get a deep dive into his story and background. It was fascinating to learn about his upbringing, his relationship with his mom, the Dancing with the Stars experience, and how he became such a huge fitness personality. 10/10
From Amazon:
Cody Rigsby has a lot of opinions: Kevin is the hottest Backstreet Boy; grape jelly is a crime against nature; if you wear flip-flops in New York City, you do not love yourself. But if there is one opinionโone truthโthat he holds above all others, itโs that we shouldnโt let the fear of looking stupid or being judged hold us back from living our best lives.
Cody didnโt always feel this way. In XOXO, Cody, he opens up about his journey toward accepting himself, from growing up gay and poor in the South to his migration to New York City, where he went from broke-ass dancer to fitness icon. He intimately details what it was like to lose both his father and best friend to addiction and how he began to repair his relationship with his mom as an adult. He recounts his time working at a nightclub on the Lower East Side and his decision to audition for Peloton on a whim, and dishes about competing against Sporty Spice on Dancing with the Stars.
With raw and inspiring stories about learning how to handle the scary sh*t, XOXO, Cody is a bold and heartfelt reminder that sometimes laughing at yourself is the best medicine. Remember: It ainโt that deep, boo.
Redeeming Love
*All the trigger warnings*
This book was recommend in a Facebook group for faith-based reads, so just a heads up, itโs Christian fiction and is an 1800s era retelling of Gomer and Hosea. While I was reading it, I was thinking that it isnโt too Jesus-y, but then after about a quarter, I was like ok, it definitely is. Just wanted to spread the word if thatโs not your cup of tea. I found it to be Jesus-y in the best possible way. This book will stick with me for life, and is an incredible testament of Godโs unwavering love, even when we feel our most broken. While it wasnโt the best writing ever, and it dragged a bit before the last 25%, Iโm so glad I stuck with it. 10/10 recommend.
From Amazon:
Californiaโs gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.
Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside. Then she meets Michael Hosea, a man who seeks his Fatherโs heart in everything. Michael obeys Godโs call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angelโs every bitter expectation, until despite her resistance, her frozen heart begins to thaw.
But with her unexpected softening comes overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husbandโs pursuing love, terrified of the truth she no longer can deny: her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael does . . . the One who will never let her go.
A powerful retelling of the story of Gomer and Hosea, Redeeming Love is a life-changing story of Godโs unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.
Esther: The Fingerprints of God
This was our fall Bible study and I got so much out of this one. As a relatively Bible newbie, itโs been helpful for me to deep dive into different books of the Bible with such a kind, insightful, and wise group of ladies. I learn so much from each session and it fills my cup for the entire week! When I read the book of Esther before our study, I had a hard time understanding everything, and didnโt know the historical context or background. Bible studies give so much context to what youโre reading, and enabled me to fully understand the impact of Esther and how all of the pieces came together. 9/10 recommend.
Donโt Forget to Write
This book is my new equivalent to Nora Goes Off Script. Itโs light, fluffy, super witty, and the ending is EVERYTHING. I couldโt read this one fast enough and would love a sequel. ๐ Definitely check it out if youโre looking for a fall *beach read.* 10/10
From Amazon:
When Marilyn Kleinman is caught making out with the rabbiโs son in front of the whole congregation, her parents ship her off to her great-aunt Ada for the summer. If anyone can save their daughterโs reputation, itโs Philadelphiaโs strict premier matchmaker. Either that or Marilyn can kiss college goodbye.
To Marilynโs surprise, Adaโs not the humorless septuagenarian her mother described. Not with that platinum-blonde hair, Hermรจs scarf, and Cadillac convertible. Sheโs sharp, straight-talking, takes her job very seriously, and abides by her own rulesโฆmostly. As the summer unfolds, Ada and Marilyn head for the Jersey shore, where Marilyn helps Ada scope out eligible matchesโfor anyone but Marilyn, that is.
Because if thereโs one thing Marilynโs learned from Ada, itโs that she doesnโt have to settle. With the school year quickly approaching and her father threatening to disinherit her, Marilyn must make her choice for her future: return to the comfortable life she knows or embrace a risky, unknown path on her own.
So, tell me, friends: what have you read lately? Anything I should add to be TBR list?
