WSU 2013 Week 1 Giveaway- P57

Thank you so much to those of you who have been checking in, sending me your awesome pics and sharing the workouts with your friends! You are already ROCKING out this challenge, and I’m even more excited and thankful to provide virtual high-fives and prizes along the way.

The lucky winner of today’s giveaway will receive the ability to try one my all-time favorite workouts: Physique 57. P57 offered one of their Volume 1 kits (3 DVDs) + a ball, so you can feel the fiery thigh torture at home. This is especially amazing because P57 isn’t offered in many cities, so if you don’t have a studio near you (I don’t, and wish I did!) you can still do the workouts.

When you finish Workout #1 for the second time today + your tempo work, leave a comment below to let us know how it went. Did you feel stronger this time? Use more challenging weights? How’d you do the tempo work?

For the 15 minutes of tempo work, sustain a quick steady pace and then increase it in the middle of your workout. Maintain that for as long as you can (at least a few minutes) before taking it back down to your “usual” pace.

I really enjoyed this workout!! I usually dread home workouts but the truth is getting to the gym is hard with 2 little ones + a housefull of kids I babysit. So this really appealed to me & I thought I would give it a try! You have kept me motivated & on track on all week! Yeah!! I do feel so much better & its only 3 days into it! Thank you!

I’m loving the winter shape up so far. I’ve had to adjust the schedule to suit my own life so today was an active recovery day for me. That took the form of a nice long walk with our two dogs in the 10 degree weather this morning! Of course both the cold and my playlist helped keep my tempo up and kept all of us moving right along at a nice quick and steady pace! The cold woke me up and the walk started my day off in a high energy way!

Many thanks Gina to you for all the inspiration you provide to live a healthy active life!

Its quite rainy in ATL today, so tempo work had to be done inside on the elliptical :/. Can’t wait for it to clear up so I can take it outside!

  4. Beth on January 30, 2013 at 10:03 am

I did the WO with a friend this time and felt even more motivated to nail my form. For me the second time is always a bit smoother as I’m getting a hang of the moves 🙂 The 15 minute tempo work went faster than expected and left me pretty sweaty!

  5. Amna on January 30, 2013 at 10:04 am

Felt totally wiped out but loved it!

  6. Kara D on January 30, 2013 at 10:07 am

I did a tempo run! I warmed up for a mile, then did a mile at a faster pace, then slowed back down for the third mile. It was great.

  7. Tori L on January 30, 2013 at 10:08 am

I did feel a little bit stronger doing it again! I used some heavier weights to give me more of a challenge; loving it!

  8. Chelsea @ Chelsea's Health on January 30, 2013 at 10:08 am

Goal of the week: fit in winter shape up workout 1. I have written it down so now I must get it done!
I would love to try the P57 DVDs.

  9. Nadya on January 30, 2013 at 10:09 am

I did it! I felt a bit fatigued after yesterday but I am glad I pushed through it. Physique 57would be an awesome addition to my at-home workout videos:)

  10. anna maria on January 30, 2013 at 10:10 am

I did the workout super early in the morning and, as a result, my performance was not my best but it was sill a super start to the day.

  11. Nina on January 30, 2013 at 10:10 am

I did workout #1 again today… This time in a hotel gym! It felt great to get up and move, and there were a surprising number of other people in there with me at 6 AM! I upped my weights on the squats because the gym offered heavier weights than I have at home. Did 15 mins on the elliptical, and kept the pace pretty quick. Loved getting my sweat on first thing in the morning.

  12. Erin on January 30, 2013 at 10:13 am

I did feel stronger today! I’m still pretty weak but getting stronger and better at the workout every day! I tried increasing weights a little and it killed. I’m def sore!! What an awesome giveaway! I don’t have that offered anywhere near my home so that would be an AWESOME prize! Loving this!

  13. Meggie on January 30, 2013 at 10:15 am

I’ve been dying to try Physique57! I’m loving work out #1 and am still feeling pleasantly sore from the first time I completed it. Feeling stronger and more energetic this time around and was able to get into a better flow since I was already familiar with the moves. Nice and sweaty!

  14. Anna on January 30, 2013 at 10:16 am

I did my tempo work in the form of a run (outside!) I did 40 minutes with the first 10 at a 8.5 min mile pace and the second 10 minutes at a 7.0 minute mile pace. I finished the workout at an 8.5 min mile pace. I was wheezing during that middle 10 minutes though! Whoo! Workout #1 also has my arm muscle feeling nice and tight today while I type this sentence. Thanks Gina!

  15. erin on January 30, 2013 at 10:17 am

checking in!!! i did workout #1 and a tempo round early this morning. feeling great this morning!

  16. Monique on January 30, 2013 at 10:17 am

Loved it! Felt a bit stronger and more energetic today. But sore from yesterday’s workout!

  17. Molly@This Life Is Sparkling on January 30, 2013 at 10:18 am

I’m a day behind on the WSU plan since I switched a few days around so I’ll be doing workout 1 + tempo tomorrow but so far I am loving the shape up!

  18. Steph @ Upbeat Eats on January 30, 2013 at 10:18 am

I’m definitely still trying to come back from a finger surgery (more intense than it sounds, haha) so I’ve been frustrated with how much strength I’ve lost. However, it feels like every time I have a good workout, a little more of the good stuff comes back to me. I’ll definitely keep it up!

  19. Becky on January 30, 2013 at 10:19 am

I’ve had to switch up the schedule to. Workout 1 Monday + HIIT and Steady Tuesday=Rest Day today. Really appreciate the flexibility with the workouts. It would be awesome to try Physique 57

  20. Lena on January 30, 2013 at 10:19 am

I’ll be doing some yoga at home tonight, as I did some lifting and zumbaaaa last night- meeting with some friends for dinner tonight, so I swapped days, since I know I’ll be home late tonight.

  21. Rachel Johnson on January 30, 2013 at 10:20 am

I did my 1st round of Workout 1 yesterday due to my work/school schedule and feel great today — really looking forward to trying it again tomorrow am — its a great way to start the day (even if its at 4:45!) I’m definitely going to up my weights on chest press & squats, but I wanted to take it easy the first round through to really get the form right! Thanks for the awesome giveaways & motivation!

  22. Ashley on January 30, 2013 at 10:22 am

I’m still feeling it from the first day but definitely felt stronger and I even succeeded at the plank reach exercise! I was so proud of myself!!!! Thanks for all your effort to give us a great workout.

  23. Michelle on January 30, 2013 at 10:24 am

I’m loving workout 1! Theres nice variety and I can feel the burn! I would love to win the P57 dvd’s, I’ve heard such great things about their workouts but don’t have one in my area.

  24. Kate J. on January 30, 2013 at 10:26 am

Did the workout and tempo work in the second hotel gym I’ve been to this week. The tempo run I did was fun! Excited to have the wsu for motivation while I’m on the road. I travel a few times a month for work and usually, it’s easier to have an excuse not to work out. I’m really enjoying following the plan!

  25. Helen on January 30, 2013 at 10:27 am

Love these workouts! I usually do specific body areas each strength training workout but I like combining everything

  26. Naomi on January 30, 2013 at 10:28 am

I did three rounds of workout 1 this morning, an improvement since Monday I only did two rounds. The plank tucks were still the hardest for me, but I managed to stay balanced a little better this time. Hopefully next time will be even better! 🙂

  27. Pam on January 30, 2013 at 10:29 am

I did all of it (#1 + HITT … I don’t know what ‘tempo’ workout means) at the gym this morning and it was great! 3 rounds of the circuit! (http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m4r5gvB9fS1qlfwzk.gif)

It translated well to the gym because I didn’t feel weird (lots of online workouts I feel ask you to do things that kinda make you look ridic) and didn’t have to run around the gym a lot for 5 different sets of weights, one set and a kettlebell were perfect, so I didn’t waste time between circuit stops.

Could you clarify what a ‘tempo’ workout is? How is that different from steady state?

  28. Alex on January 30, 2013 at 10:29 am

I had to switch the entire schedule up to fit it in with my life so I did Workout #1 (loved the combo moves!) and a quick run yesterday. Today is actually going to be my HIIT/steady state day via a fitness class. Thanks for the motivation!

  29. Mary Kathryn on January 30, 2013 at 10:30 am

Ive never done tempo work before and it was quite challenging! I did 3 rounds of the circuit and since I’m a bit sore (I didn’t take yesterday off) it was a little slower than the first day.

  30. Michelle on January 30, 2013 at 10:30 am

I do my workouts before work and this morning I was so sore! But after the workout I felt so much better and ready to take on the day. Thanks for the great workouts!

  31. Pam on January 30, 2013 at 10:31 am

Aaaand it says what tempo work is in the post. Ignore me! Doing HITT instead couldn’t have done too much damage 😉

  32. Carolyn on January 30, 2013 at 10:33 am

I overslept and only had time for 2 rounds — between Monday’s sets, some turbofire yesterday and this my legs are BURNING in the best way!

  33. Monica on January 30, 2013 at 10:34 am

I’ve been super into spin and hiking and have forgotten to add strength in recently. After wo 1, I slept like a rock! Looking forward to having that happen again tonight!

  34. Greta on January 30, 2013 at 10:35 am

I totally feel stronger the second time doing workout #1. The knee tucks reach plank is still a challenge, but it was a little easier this time. It feels so good to be strengthening a new set of muscles. I would love to see what P57 is all about.

  35. Ashley on January 30, 2013 at 10:37 am

Woohoo! Today was a bit painful haha the strong superman move really gets me, but I LOVE IT! 🙂 One day it will be “easy”, taking baby steps here! I’ve heard so much about Physique 57, what an awesome giveaway! I’ve been so curious about the barre style classes.

  36. Carissa on January 30, 2013 at 10:37 am

Checking in! Did a tempo run this morning – I love tempo!!

  37. Meghan on January 30, 2013 at 10:38 am

Checking in! I had to modify the schedule with my own schedule, so today is my active recovery day. Went for a long walk before work this morning! I did the WO #1 last night for the 2nd time, I think for me the hardest move is the plank with the tuck and reach! I was surprised by how hard that is! For my tempo, I did a tempo run and the time flew by! My favorite move is the strong superman, I find it is hard to work my back and with this move I can really feel it! Thanks for creating the WSU, loving it!

  38. kim on January 30, 2013 at 10:38 am

Going STRONG!! Finished round 2 this morning at 6:45 and am LOVING it! Thank you so much–I’m pumped!!

  39. Katy on January 30, 2013 at 10:39 am

Whew, feeling great after that workout! I would LOVE the Physique 57 DVDs!! I just tried my first barre class on Saturday and fell in love 🙂

  40. Melissa on January 30, 2013 at 10:41 am

My schedule is all jumbled around! I did workout #1 last night (2 rounds) plus P90X Ab Ripper X (15 minutes). Today is a steady state cardio “date” with a friend…10K after work with pickups at the end.

I do have a question about one of the moves in the circuit…squats/curls to overhead press. Is there a graceful way to flow between the overhead press and the squat/curl? I feel so awkward! (<—used to that! haha!)

  41. Melissa A on January 30, 2013 at 10:42 am

Tempo work is serious! My legs are on fire!! Great work out, looking forward/scared for the next!

  42. Maggie P on January 30, 2013 at 10:44 am

I got up this morning and did Workout #1 again. Zumba on the schedule for tonight. Feeling great!

  43. Melinda on January 30, 2013 at 10:46 am

Got my butt out of bed at an ungodly hour that started with a 5 (let’s not talk about it). But it was so worth it! Although, I could use a little (lot!) of fiery thigh torture in my life. 😉

  44. Carly on January 30, 2013 at 10:46 am

Did WO#1 last night for the first time + about 7 mins of HIIT after (lol). Finished 3 rounds of the circuit, although the last round was tough to get through, and I didn’t finish as many reps. Things I noticed: 1) I am slow to push back from lateral lunges, wow! Definitely something to work on; 2) Superman is amazing; 3) I am hilariously awkward in anything 1-legged and balance-y; and 4) My right hip cracks painfully during lowering of leg ab work lol.
    A good sore today!

  45. kristina on January 30, 2013 at 10:47 am

I’m loving the WSU! This is my first time doing WSU, but I participated in your Summer Shape Up last year and was a big fan. I’m training for my first half marathon and today was a speedwork session so my tempo work was swapped out for 400s- I was still a sweaty, happy mess at the end! 🙂

  46. Jill on January 30, 2013 at 10:49 am

    Feeling stronger every day!!

  47. Bethany Henderson on January 30, 2013 at 10:51 am

Finished workout today….and did some tempo work on treadmill and then elliptical because my knee gave out…..used the housing gym which sucks!…. My hubby returns tomorrow from his latest TDY trip, so I’m excited to actually use the base gym again which is great……minus the hundreds of marines who are in there! Hope to win!

Today felt better than Monday for me because I at least had a clue how to do the workout instead of stopping to check my printout ten times. Had a great workout! Rocked out to some of the soundtrack from “Pitch Perfect”. Great movie if you haven’t seen it yet!

  50. Becky on January 30, 2013 at 10:55 am

Winter Shape Up got the endorphins flowing this morning! I can’t wait to tackle the rest of the day!! Thank you so much for putting this together!
