back in the sun
Hi friends! How was the weekend? Hope you had a great one. 🙂 Part 2 of P’s birth story is up on the Family page here. I’m so sorry about the blog down time last week, and thankfully, it was switched to a new host and server this weekend. The blog just got so excited about everything going on, she couldn’t handle it.
While I’ve definitely enjoyed our The Voice and Kardashian TV marathons, it was so nice to get outside for some fresh air this weekend. We were hit with a bit of a chilly spell, and while it’s warmed up, it certainly feels like autumn is in the air. The Pilot is all “honor the bird” but Liv and I have been listening to Christmas music for the past week. I needed to reintroduce her to the magic that is Michael Buble’s Christmas album. (My mom said he’s making a new one?!)
The Pilot mentioned that we didn’t get the chance to fully enjoy his birthday dump cake since we headed to the hospital that night. When we got back almost a week later, it was sad and soggy in the fridge. It’s good fresh out of the oven, but it’s even better cold the next day, so we had a dump cake do-over.
Saturday afternoon, we went on a family walk to People’s to grab the necessities: berries, eggs, almond milk, and baked goodies.
I tried a piece of their persimmon cake, which was lovely. I’ll definitely try to recreate it and post on the blog. It was fluffy, lightly-spiced, and had crushed cashews on top.
Said cake was enjoyed with a kombucha that exploded upon opening it. Sorry ‘buch, it’s been a while.
Sunday morning, we hit up the Hillcrest Farmer’s market. We usually go to walk around to see whatever produce beckons to us, but this time we were on a mission for lunch.
Livi is obsessed with her little kickboard!
The Pilot got a shawarma sandwich,
madre had a gyro,
Liv had a combo of bean burrito + Nutella crepe
(of course, we were happy to help her with it)
and I had a pastel from the Brazilian snack booth.
It was stuffed with vegan chorizo, peas, carrots and green beans. So, so good.
We also picked up some butter (the best!), PB peanut butter, grapes, Brussels sprouts and flowers. It was a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.
The only person who has hit up the gym this weekend is this little lady. 😉 We started using her play gym the other night, and she seemed to enjoy it. (<— this means she looked around and didn’t cry, which means it was a lot of fun.)
No pic, but I do have this one:
(P’s eyes are still grey! I’m excited to see if they stay light, as the Pilot has light eyes, or if they turn brown. )
Hope you have a lovely morning and I’ll see ya later today on the Family page.
xoxo
Gina
Congratulations to the winner of the HALO Bassinest, Liz S., and our Target gift card winner, Gina H.!
Both winners have been emailed. Stay tuned for more amazing giveaways coming up, and thank you so much to everyone for entering!
Something to do: This boot camp workout! It’s an effective mix of strength and cardio to facilitate lean muscle growth and calorie-burning power. Hope you love it. <3
Aw, that looks so lovely! Family time is always wonderful 🙂
That dump cake looks so yummy. And the pretty purple carrots <3
I see the picture of squash blossoms…what do you do with those?
*butting in* You can stuff them and cook them. I’ve also tossed mine in with risotto.
i like to stuff them with goat cheese, lightly fry in olive oil and serve atop marinara with fresh basil
Ahhhh, that picture of P is so adorable! I’m sure it felt great to walk around in real clothes in the sunshine–you don’t have the new mom tired look going on in these pics at all! I am super enjoying our cooler fall weather up here in the Bay Area! All the rain is making me eager to head to the snow with the kids!
yes, it makes a huge difference. even just to pretend to be a normal person for a little while 😉
That cake looks soooo delicious!!!
Great pics! So glad you’re getting out. Cabin fever can develop with a newborn. You look great and hope the transition to two has been amazing! Best wishes!
TOTALLY. i’ve been trying to get outside every day, and it’s helped a lot with how i feel
xoxo
Is that the alcoholic kombucha?? I just found out they made that this weekend while visiting my brother in Seattle. I’m not able to drink it, but I got excited that I found something new and posted about it today too. Enjoy!
yes, but i’m pretty sure the alcohol content is very small.
Yeah it is. There’s a tiny bit in the regular kind too, but I just really liked those fancy black labels 🙂
right? they definitely look cooler 😉
It’s fun to see all the ways you are including Liv in with the new baby! The kickboard and big sister shirts are just too adorable. She looks like one proud big sis!
It will be fun to see if P looks like Liv who I think looks like you or more like the Pilot. I’m always fascinating by how genes get distributed. My brother and I look exactly alike. It actually creeps me out, but some genes are really strong.
i think it’s fascinating, too. i think for now, P looks more like tom and livi looks more like me.
I love dump cake, but I add chopped pecans or walnuts. Ms P is adorable.
oh i love that idea
Love Penelope’s pretty eyes! And how cute is Liv on that kickboard? What a cool idea that is!
Hi Gina. You look great with that lipstick. What colour are you using?
Gina–I can’t get over how precious she is. What a beauty! I can’t wait to read her updates. You’re looking great by the way mama! You’ve definitely still have that new mama glow!
My husband and I both have brown hair and brown eyes and my toddler has very light blonde hair and blue eyes. You just never know!
No scrawny, chicken leg newborn look on that baby! She is beautiful!! Looks like a great weekend. I love San Diego, we are now in Arizona and loving the fall like (but warm) weather!
hahah definitely not! thank you 🙂 so excited to go back to az for thanksgiving
xoxo
The little shirt P is wearing is adorable! So glad you all are adjusting well!
Love that you were able to get outside this weekend. I am sure it makes all the difference after being kind of trapped indoors. And I def started up with the Christmas music already too, but only when I am by myself haha my husband would think I am nuts. It just puts me in a positive mood and that’s what matters right?!
omg those eyes!! She’s beautiful!! I think she looks like Liv! Time will tell!
Hope you’re recovering well, Gina!
thank you! i think she looks like baby tom right now 🙂 xoxo
That kickboard is an amazing idea! I love Michael Buble but I think my favorite Christmas album award goes to Josh Groban’s Noel.
i have that one, too! SO GOOD
