New cut and at-home restaurant meal

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday!

I promised I’d post a pic of the new cut… and the question is whether I got straight-across bangs or not

NOPE! I’m still rockin’ the side bangs 😀

001

But I did get 4 INCHES TAKEN OFF! My hair hasn’t been this short in quite a while!

006

All the dead ends are GONE and it feels light and healthy. And I feel less like a shaggy beast 😉

007

Last night, the pilot and I made dinner together. We loosely based it off this Rizzle recipe for Grilled Salmon Salad.

008

(I love my personalized Williams-Sonoma apron :D)

The pilot played sous chef and started working on the marinade for the salmon and the orange vinaigrette.

010

(hubba, hubba)

We marinated the salmon in orange juice, agave, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sea salt and pepper for about 20 minutes and then I pan-seared it before throwing it into the oven.

012

The pilot made the vinaigrette using Rizzle’s recipe but we only used a splash of the canola oil instead of the recommended 1 cup:

011

When we got ingredients at Winn Dizzle for dinner, they didn’t have organic greens (punks!!) so I needed another method of choosing the type of salad we’d use…

013

The package said “sassy”. I was sold right there 😀

I tossed the vinaigrette with the sassy salad greens and added sliced red onion, kalamata olives and cucumber.

014

The pilot made himself some wasabi-mashed potatoes using boiled new potatoes, milk, butter, sea salt, pepper and wasabi powder

015

Using the leftover frozen shrimpies from seafood fest 2009, I marinated them in a Gliding Calm Tofu-esque mixture of garlic, lemon juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil and red chili flakes

I sautéed them in a little EVOO:

 018

And they were DELICIOUS!

The spread:

016

My plate:

017

TOTALLY looks like a restaurant salad.. and it tasted even better 😀

Bella tried to look as pathetic as possible, hoping she’d get a bite of salmon.

019

She was denied.

Viesa did her version of begging, which is to lay under the table and look beautiful.

022

She, too was denied.

The thing that made our amazing meal even better: dessert!!

023

Well I’m off to seize the day. Meaning, I’ll be laying by the pool, book in hand 😀 Dinner with the girls and the Ugly Truth tonight. Has anyone seen it??

Have a great day, friends!

Cheers,

G

Love the new haircut Gina. I'm a big fan of side bangs. Across the forehead bangs can look a little harsh sometimes. Good pick!

It looks like you and your sous chef make a good team- dinner looked fab.

Have a lovely day lounging by the pool.

Your hair is so thick and gorgeous. Love it Gina.

Love the dinner too – definitely a restaurant worthy salad in my opinion…actually, it looked much better than many restaurant salads. I would have been begging for some of that salmon right along with the puppers. 🙂

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  19. Danielle C. on July 26, 2009 at 2:08 pm

I saw The Ugly Truth yesterday and LOL'ed a lot. It's definitely got more raunchy/toilet humor but that is right up my alley.

  20. Lauren on July 26, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Love the hair. You look stunning!

Grilled salmon salad is devine. What a great date night meal with your wonderful hubby.

We just say The Ugly Truth this weekend. Even though it had bad reviews, my hubby and I both loved it! It was very funny. 🙂

    Take care girl/

A recommended cup of oil? Geez, that's Rachael Ray for ya. I'm impressed the pilot can (and is willing to) make mashed potatoes from scratch!

LOVE the new hair – very flattering.

  25. Peanut Butter Swirl on July 26, 2009 at 3:56 pm

you look absolutely GORGEOUS. love the new haircut 🙂

  26. Deb on July 26, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Totally love the hair!! And the meal, yum. Do you straighten your hair (like blow dry it straight or with an iron) or is it (grrr) naturally that lovely?

  27. Ada on July 26, 2009 at 4:06 pm

I love your new haircut!!! That salmon looks delicious, having a cooking buddy is always so much fun:)

  28. shelby on July 26, 2009 at 4:40 pm

love the apron, I want one lol

  32. Jennie on July 26, 2009 at 7:32 pm

I'm super jealous of your hair. Talk about thick & shiny. My hair tends to lie there, like it's depressed or something.

I'm going to make your guacamole recipe next week. Yay!! Love trying new ways of making guac.

  33. CaSaundraLeigh on July 26, 2009 at 7:50 pm

Your hair is absolutely stunning! It must be your super healthy diet 🙂

  34. *Erica* on July 26, 2009 at 7:54 pm

LOVE the haircut! You are so beautiful regardless of your hair… 😉 But I DO love the side bangs. I am still quite a ways from having bangs, but can't wait til I do!

Dinner looks delish! We had shrimp tonight too, fajita-style…it was tasty! Your doggies are precious.

omg. those mash potatoes look like HEAVEN!

Also, I LOVE your new haircut. So shiny!

  38. Suzanne on July 26, 2009 at 10:46 pm

Your hair and your meal look really great. I haven't really mastered the pan-sear. Any tips? Also, I finally had time to bust into my July magazine stack and I found that the cover story for Scientific American Mind is about fitness being a boon to brain function. Not in and of itself a news flash, but the extent to which exercise helps the brain and the science behind it is pretty interesting. Finally, do you know anything about resistance stretching? I've been reading lots about it lately and it sounds awesome.

P.S. while reading your post this evening my brother walked past, primed to make some unflattering comment about food blog reading,….but I was spared thanks to your photo… that is to say, your gorgeous mug allowed his typical invective to be subbed for a "dude, that chick is hot" lol!

  39. whitsgettingfit on July 26, 2009 at 10:52 pm

I love the new hair! I saw the ugly truth friday and liked it, hope you have fun!

  40. Fitnessista on July 26, 2009 at 10:56 pm

thank you to all of you for the sweet hair compliments 😀

deb- my hair is a curly beast. that was the work of a super-powered chi hairdryer (courtesy of the madre) a round brush, and some wicked straightening action. i have a fro if i don't do anything to style it 😉

suzanne- i've heard of resistance stretching but have never tried it. i'm hankering to get a foam roller though for my hammies :/ hahaha tell your bro thanks LOL

  41. buffmuffy on July 26, 2009 at 11:00 pm

Your hair is so thick and gorgeous! I can only wish for hair like that! Any food with "sassy" in its name must be a good thing! Ha!

  44. Danielle on July 27, 2009 at 12:05 am

Your hair looks absolutely beautiful! Any product recommendations? Seriously 🙂 mine is thick like yours but nearly as healthy and shiny!

  45. wholebodylove on July 27, 2009 at 12:49 am

Your hair looks fab! I still dig the side bangs. It looks as though you and Pilot work well together in the kitchen…the results are pretty as a picture 🙂

  46. Erin of Care to Eat on July 27, 2009 at 2:56 am

Ahhh you tease! And here I was, imagining how great you'd look with straight across bangs!
Your hair looks great, of course 🙂

  47. Island Girl Eats on July 27, 2009 at 8:37 am

    Bella looks so sweet!

  48. Laura W on July 27, 2009 at 8:59 am

Love the hair! Straight across bangs always seem like a good idea, but everyone I know who has even gotten them ends up pinning them back until they grow out! Considering how much you work out, the annoying factor would probably be pretty high.

Let us know how The Ugly Truth is! I just got around to Food, Inc. so The Ugly Truth is up next. 🙂

  49. Diana on July 27, 2009 at 11:05 am

Oooh, you got your hair did! Super cute. I'm a fan of the side swept bangs m'self. I did the straight across for too many years in middle school – it'll take me a while to go back to that. 🙂

  50. HangryPants on July 27, 2009 at 9:43 pm

You are so cute and I love your hair cut! I am due myself.
