Thank you so much to those of you who entered the Baby K’Tan giveaway! I was cracking up reading your funny stories… they were hilarious.

Here’s the winner:

image

It totally reminded me of the scene from Four Christmases (I love that movie, can ya tell?) where the mom says “when he hurts inside and can’t use his emotion words, he takes to streaking.”

Anyway,

Catie, please send me your info and which K’Tan carrier you’d like and I’ll forward it along to the Baby K’Tan fairy 🙂

Thanks again to everyone for entering and stay tuned for future Family page giveaways! <3 There are SO many awesome products out there, so I’m stoked to be able to share them with you guys.

Guess who is growing like a little weed over here?

2 month (3)

Ms. Smiley Face, herself 🙂

Whenever she’s snoozing, I can’t wait for her to wake up. The second she lets me know she’s awake, I look in her eyes and say “Good morning” or ask how her nap was, and she’ll give me the biggest, gummiest, most perfect smile. My heart can’t even handle it. We’ll have conversations now, where she’ll coo and make noises at me, I’ll repeat them or make up my own little noise, and we go back and forth. I’ve officially crossed over into “goo goo ga ga” land, and there’s no turning back 😉

Liv was full of smiles even throughout the night, where she only took tiny cat naps and would wake up ready for a fresh diaper or some food. I’d go take her out of the bassinet, she’d stop crying and smile at me while I talked to her, and then remembered she was crying and went right back to it. Funny girl. I think she’s going through a growth spurt this week, so even more eating and snoozing than usual. She’ also extra cuddly and just wants to be held, so I’m taking advantage.

Since Tom has been working night weeks for the past two weeks, it’s been our first time consecutively doing the bedtime routine with just the two of us. I’ve mentioned it before, but it makes me feel confident that I could do this by myself if Tom were to deploy or if we get stationed far away from family for our next little one. My mom came over a couple of nights to do the bedtime routine with me, but she’s been sick (we miss you, madre!), so it’s been Liv and myself over here at night.

I wasn’t quite sure how to give her a sink bath without an extra set of hands, so I started taking a bath with her in our big tub. I’ll put on my swimsuit and fill up the tub with a few inches of water, set her next to the tub in the babysitter balance in her diaper, get in, reach over, pick her up, and give her her bath with myself in the tub, too. So much easier, and she LOVES it. We’ll do the usual lotion, brush hair, jammies, book, Jewel lullaby and rock/bounce to sleep routine, and I’ve successfully gotten her to bed at her usual bedtime minus my favorite guy.

Two things I still have yet to get the hang of: clipping her nails and getting the boogies out of her nose. I don’t want to cut her tiny fingers, so I’ll file her nails instead of clipping them and as far as the nose thing goes, the brain sucker (aka bulb syringe) freaks me out. I’ve been using saline swabs for babies, which work ok, but the NoseFrida should be here tomorrow.

Liv got her first set of shots last week, which was hard for everyone. We originally planned to split up the vaccinations, but our pediatrician’s office didn’t buy individual vaccines- just “cocktails” of multiple shots in one. Instead of getting 4 shots + an oral medication, she got two, which contained all of them + the oral. She sucked that Rotavirus down like it was candy. As far as the shots go, seeing your baby get pricked with the shots and the sad face and tears that follow is the worst thing ever. She cried, I cried a little as soon as the nurse closed the door and we cuddled her, took her to the private breastfeeding room so she could nurse afterwards and then came home. No fever or fussiness, just very sleepy all day.

She’s grown so much over the past two months and every day, I’ll see her do something new. Yesterday while she was on her play mat –she lays there while I brush my teeth and put my contacts in each morning- I walked back over to her and she was on her side. I thought there was no way she would have flipped to her side already, so I put her back on her back, and talked to her for a second. She kicked her leg out to propel herself, rolled onto her side again, and started to grunt as she used her hand to try to push onto her stomach. Watching her grow, develop and how much she’s changed over the past two months has been truly incredible.

Over the past two months, I’ve had quite a few “I can’t believe we have a baby” moments. I’ll look at her, look at her dad and feel like it’s too good to be true. <3

I’m a very lucky girl.

OMG! Can she be any cuter?! You have such a gorgeous family!

I remember when my soon-to-be 16yo was 2 months old.
That smile thrilled my heart over and over again.
And she still thrills me every day of my life!

  3. Morgan on March 14, 2012 at 7:35 pm

    Gorgeous. You are so lucky!
I used to just bite Aaron’s nails when he was asleep, then file them or peel them. Liv is still at the age where they are thin enough. Good luck, cutting nails is the worst!

Can’t believe it’s been two months already…she is so adorable! Baby nails..honestly, I tried to cut them as little as possible because I never really did get the hang of it…I’d file them with an emery board while she slept b/c I was paranoid of the clippers. Lol

Glad you two have found your stride and your routine 🙂

  8. Sana on March 14, 2012 at 7:44 pm

Your daughter has the most lovely eyelashes 🙂

  9. Anna Banana on March 14, 2012 at 7:52 pm

She is very beautiful. What a lovely family you have. Thanks for giving us a peek into your lives. Wish you all the love and joy in the world!

  10. Sarah on March 14, 2012 at 7:54 pm

Bath times are my fave 🙂 we have an infant tub that I fill up halfway and place on the bathroom counter. He loved to watch himself and it’s easy on my back.

She is growing so fast! My little man just had his four month exam and he’s grown 5 inches since he was born!

Ps – you’ve inspired me to be fit and healthy for my next pregnancy. I gained a lot with this one and lost all muscle, so it’s hard to get back into shape especially with a baby now. But seeing you makes me feel motivated!

I seriously get teary pretty much every family post you write. It’s just so apparent through your writing how much love you have for your husband and little one. I’m not planning on a little one any time soon, but as a future mama I really love your honesty about everything.

I know it’s not the same at all but I took my puppy to get her vaccines last week and seriously, vaccine-induced cuddels are the best, I can only imagine how cuddly Livi was 🙂

  13. Stephanie @ Legally Blinde on March 14, 2012 at 8:05 pm

What a cute post. Both of those pictures are adorable – Liv really looks like a very happy baby. Glad you guys got through the 2-month shots. And that’s exciting that Liv rolled over on her own! It must be really amazing to see her learning and growing so much every day. You and Tom doing such a great job!

  20. Kristen on March 14, 2012 at 9:06 pm

I never cut nails for either of my kids! Between them, we had one scratch, which was purely a cosmetic thing that didn’t bother her in the least. Have you tried seeing what happens if you just let them go?

  21. RachelG on March 14, 2012 at 9:07 pm

Is it bad that I initially read the picture caption “Look who’s growing weed”? lol! Clearly an amazing zumba class has made me exhausted and delerious. She is SOOO beautiful!! 🙂

  22. Kath on March 14, 2012 at 9:10 pm

Love the updates. And both the purple quit photo and the final one made MY heart melt!

  23. Stephanie on March 14, 2012 at 9:14 pm

She is just so precious!!!! beautiful!!!!!

A little tip for baths, I know one of the hardest parts I remember at first is getting their slippery little selves out and it being hard to wrap them in ,the towel. Right before picking her up from the sink tub to wrap her up, drape the towel over your shoulder then you’d have two hands to pick her up andthen lay her on your shoulder andhol dher with one hand and cover her all up. also I remember setting up all the stuff, laying towel down, clothes, lotions etc all together in the room so when I come in with her all wet everything is all ready and there before she got too cold.

  24. Sara on March 14, 2012 at 9:15 pm

She’s so cute, and I think.. physically advanced? I can’t quite remember, but I’m pretty sure that at two months I could still let my girl sleep on the couch without fear that she would roll off it. You have an athlete on your hands!

  25. Michaela on March 14, 2012 at 9:20 pm

she looks SO much like you in the last picture!!
I bet you are such a great mom. You can tell the love you have for her just by reading these posts.
What I was wondering, do you speak Spanish or English to her?

    • Fitnessista on March 15, 2012 at 9:51 pm

      both 🙂

Hey, that is not how it supposed to go, you learning the goo-goo-gah-gah language, the other way around 😉

Liv looks just like you 😉

  29. ML on March 14, 2012 at 10:15 pm

Gina, I always thought that Liv looked like the pilot. But in that last picture she looks so much like you! Especially when i’m looking at her picture and the picture you have of yourself on your sidebar, making the exact same expression in reverse (mirror image). Obviously, Liv’s not holding a barbell, but other than that, she’s your mini-me!
She’s very cute, love these family posts.

  30. Melody on March 14, 2012 at 10:30 pm

Look at those eyelashes! Looks like she’ll never need mascara!

  31. Rebecca Meier on March 14, 2012 at 10:50 pm

Please let us know how that NoseFrida thing works out for you if at all possible. I am using the bulb syringe and it hardly works 🙁 Tempted to buy the NoseFrida but the idea of it kind of grosses me out. Thanks! Love your blog!

  32. Liza on March 14, 2012 at 10:51 pm

She is beautiful! Where did you get the little hair bow? My daughter will be 1 in 12 days and it’s taking forever for her hair to grow. She has just a small patch of hair on the top of her head. I’ve been looking for a little bow or clip so everyone know’s she’s a girl. 😀

  33. Rebecca Meier on March 14, 2012 at 10:51 pm

And BTW your baby girl is just PRECIOUS!!!! Agree with Melody, her eyelashes are crazy beautiful! So is that smile of hers 🙂

  34. Madie on March 14, 2012 at 10:59 pm

My twin girls are 3 months old and love their bathtime. I bathe them nightly and have to do them individually, so I’ve got it down to a fine art. I put their baby tub (with the mesh insert) inside of the big tub, so if they splash, the water just ends up in the big tub.I fill the baby tub completely full and haven’t had a problem. I sit on a stool right next to the tub and sort of lean over. I always keep one hand on the baby and wash/rinse with the other. I get totally prepared before bathtime by filling the baby tub, setting up an area in the nursery with the massage nite-time lotion, diaper, sleeper and comb. In the bathroom I have the towel and toallita ready right next to my stool. I really enjoy being able to have this time to bond one-on- one with each of my girls.

  35. Laura J. on March 14, 2012 at 11:02 pm

She is seriously the most beautiful baby!

  36. Lena @Fit on the Rocks on March 14, 2012 at 11:18 pm

It’s so crazy how fast they grow! I always forget how old my cousin’s kids are because it seems like they should be so much younger, but they’re already almost in middle school!

  37. Nicole on March 14, 2012 at 11:24 pm

Love the family updates! Thank you so much for sharing all that you do as you take on parenthood. I know all that you share will be so helpful for me when my husband and we decide to have kids.

  38. Emily on March 14, 2012 at 11:37 pm

I personally love seeing the picture of your daughter with her eyes closed/head down juxtaposed next to the picture of YOU with the weight with your eyes closed/head down along the side of the background of your blog! =)

  39. Natalie on March 15, 2012 at 12:10 am

The end of your post made my eyes water! Olivia is so beautiful! 🙂

  40. Marie on March 15, 2012 at 1:03 am

Love these posts!!! She will live reading them later!ine are 4 now and I still have those moments where I can’t believe they are mine. 😉 I kiss and cuddle them so much that my son automatically gives me his cheek when I get in close. We are fortunate and had one of each and they still have their baby smell and I love it. They each have a distinct smell. 😉

  41. Laura @ She Eats Well on March 15, 2012 at 2:29 am

She is absolutely gorgeous. And precious.

  42. Lisa O on March 15, 2012 at 3:07 am

So gorgeous, well done for getting through the 8 week shots. I’m hauling my husband out of work to come with me to that one as I don’t trust myself not to cry. I hate it when she cries (so rarely happens, only proper crying when she has a tummy pain), it really is heartbreaking. Looks like you and Olivia are a champion team, how beautifully bonded you are!

  43. Tiffany on March 15, 2012 at 4:26 am

I honestly think she is one of the most beautiful babies I have ever seen! It makes me want another just looking at her precious little face.

  44. Steffany on March 15, 2012 at 8:14 am

I still can’t get over how much she looks JUST LIKE YOU !!!! ahhhhhh

  45. Coco on March 15, 2012 at 8:19 am

She really has gotten so big- and that tooth-less grin is adorable! I think someone will have Tom wrapped around her little finger when she gets a bit older- maybe she already does!

  46. Courtney on March 15, 2012 at 8:24 am

I really cannot believe it has been 2 months already… wow, time is flying! These family posts always tug at my heart and get me excited for when the hubs and I start trying for a little one. You have a gorgeous, wonderful family Gina!!

  47. April on March 15, 2012 at 8:27 am

Ah, soooo sweet Gina! I love how you are able to get in the bath with her while alone, i am going to try it as my hubby isn’t home most nights (tax season=late nights for hubs), so i do bedtime routine alone these days as well…
You are right, it is such a confidence builder, i feel the same!!!! It is such a treat now when hubs is home at night. I am counting down to when he will be home more often.

I love your updates, so fun!!!!!

  48. Helen on March 15, 2012 at 9:52 am

She’s so beautiful! I can’t get over how precious she is!

  49. mary on March 15, 2012 at 10:04 am

She’s so photogenic! You have to post more pics of her.

I hated those stupid bulbs. I don’t think they do a thing. And nail clipping is hard when they’re that little, too. It gets much easier, like when their hands actually get dirty so you can see right where the nail is grown out from.

  50. Jamie @Food in Real Life on March 15, 2012 at 10:47 am

I totally understand what you mean about worrying about doing the nighttime routine on your own. My husband had a basketball game last night and I figured it would be all me. He ended up coming home in time, but I had already gotten most of it done and felt really great about it. I didn’t attempt the bath though (we only bathe her every other day). And as far as nail clipping? OMG it sucks! I’m terrified. Fortunately my mom did it the first time but we’re getting close to having to do it again. When I have to do something like nail clipping I just think to myself that she won’t remember this. (Is that terrible or what?) 🙂
