Gatlinburrrrrg Part 1
Hi everyone! Thank you so much for the fun comments on our goofy Christmas pictures. Hope ya’ll had a Merry Christmas and are spending this weekend with those you love <3
I guess I like this guy enough 😉
We had an awesome Christmas Eve walking around Gatlinburg with the in-laws.
Gatlinburg is a supercute little town, with stores and restaurants lining the main street:
They have a ski lift, for an aerial view of the town and forest (which you couldn’t pay me enough to get on)
A haunted mansion:
Jack Sparrow riding a segue way?!
And FUDGE galore!
We all shared a piece of dark chocolate fudge. And it was homemade, soft, fluffy, foodgasmic.
We stopped at a restaurant, but they didn’t offer much that I wanted to eat.
So I chose a honkin’ piece of steamed broccoli:
And a Larabar from the depths of the purse:
Happy kids 😀
When we got back to the cabin, I made a salad beast:
And a little later, we had dinner:
A GIANT organic sweet potato with sauerkraut and some Amy’s vegan chili
Ginger-gize:
And we shared these vegan cookies for dessert:
(Mochadamia Mountains! Appropriate, right??)
Workout-wise, I did two 20 minute yoga podcasts (power yoga #3 and #4 from YogaDownload.com) and spent some time lounging on the couch with a book 😉
Gorgeous scenery:
We’re about to pack up and head back to Valdizzy, but I’ll be back tonight with the rest of our trip re-cap 😀
Have a fabulous Saturday!
Much love,
G$
Looks like a very relaxing and fun time 🙂 Merry Christmas Gina!

Hope you get some day after Christmas shopping in today. Happy day after from Cali!!! Looks like yawl had a fun time.
gorgeous scenery! The sweet potato looked delicioso!
Does no one else think that there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with ordering a floret of broccoli for lunch?!
Nope. It’s a HUGE “floret” of broccoli, she had it with a larabar AND had a huge salad when she got home. Nothing wrong at all!
thanks linds <3
"glo": i doubt anyone else is seriously concerned. if you don't like what i chose to eat, then don't read my blog. i ate before i left -i don't post everything i eat- there was nothing else on the menu i wanted, and i do a good job of properly fueling my body.
Love the scenery! Beautiful!
And that sweet potato looks delicious!
TO address the comment above (Glo): I don’t see anything wrong with it. She didn’t have any other options and she ate more when she got home.
fudge looks yumm!
“I guess I like this guy enough ;)”
The pic there is just a great shot of the two of you…with coffee in hand no less! Priceless!
Steamed brock hunk? Hey, you do what u gotta do, right?!
thanks girl!
the pilot and i rarely have coffee– he’s drinking hot chocolate and i had a green ginger tea 😀
you and the pilot are too cute!! glad you’re having fun!
OK, the steamed broc. I have never seen a restaurant give out broccoli that size, and not cut up. How much did they charge you for the hunk of broc? LOL. GREAT pics. Oh, and I loved the looks of the salad beast. Fantastic!!!
i have no idea because the FIL treated us, but it was huge…and delicious 😀
OMG, we used to go to G-burg every year. My sweet and very brave parents would drive all my friends and I up there for a weekend of fudge, taffy, and the Mysterious Mansion – one of my favorite stops! Now I go for the hiking. 🙂
Glad you and the Pilot had a wonderful Christmas!!!!
I’m cracking up at the huge piece of broccoli. My family thinks I’m CRAZY when I ask for a large order of steamed greens at a restaurant. It looks like you had a beautiful holiday!
Glad you had a good time and a good Christmas! You’re not joking about there being fudge everywhere there! Its ridiculous! Haha hope you’re having a safe and quick trip back home!
LOVE your pics, so beautiful! that town looks so cute! I come from a BIG town, so looking at small town pics like that is so surreal and beautiful! 🙂
You and the pilot look SO cute in the first pic!
Glad you guys had fun 🙂
Looks like fun!
You two are the cutest 🙂
Beautiful pics.
Your salad beast is making me want one 🙂
Looks like quite the holiday adventure!! Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Wow what a crazy ski lift! That’d be such an awesome view of the town!
From just this post, Gatlinburg reminds me of Wisconsin Dells sort of.
gina,
i agree with glo.
i know you are eating enough. but it’s healthy and okay and normal to eat something with carbs on vacay. i mean, no tortilla? no rice? if that isn’t deprivation i don’t know what is.
i enjoy your blog. however i disagree with your exclusive attitude toward food, and it seems to me disordered.
vale
hey vale,
i had cookies that night, and s’mores the next. i think i know how to treat myself when i want it. plain white rice and white tortilla don’t taste good to me, and they’re pretty devoid of nutrients. deprivation is when you don’t allow yourself to consume things you really want to eat. if i want something, i eat it. just because it’s the “holiday season” doesn’t mean you need to throw your lifestyle out the window and scarf unhealthy food.
PS. i usually don’t eat white rice or white bread products
if they offered brown rice or wheat tortilla, i definitely would have eaten that
OMG, Jack Sparrow on a Segway is the best picture ever! I love, love, love Tennessee. I’m glad you liked it, cold weather and all (although to me it’s warm in comparison to here). You and the pilot look so cute in the picture on the bridge.
I never knew broccoli could be so controversial. ;o)
LOL
Don’t listen to the negative comments about the broccoli. I love your blog and have been in the same situation many times. If I eat more than one piece of fruit a day at work, everyone has to come to me and make a snide comment. When we have group lunches we always have to go to a steakhouse or get fried chicken. I usually order veggies and then eat snacks when we get back. A lot of people just don’t understand healthy diets or being a vegeterian/vegan.
I have to throw in my support for you, Gina. I order sides of veggies all the time when I go out. And I NEVER eat the white rice, tortillas, or bread.. they just taste gross! Now if a bread basket of Ezekiel was placed on my table… I would be in heaven.
…and it makes me angry that somebody out there with the name “Glo” is going around being an ass, making the rest of us “Glos” look bad 😉
thanks girl <3
same here– if i restaurant offers grainy, wheaty bread, i'm all over it 😀
A comment on blog comments:
I don’t agree with “Glo”‘s comment, but I think it’s ok that she made it. It was obscene or inappropriate, and that’s one reason there are comment sections. You believe in the way you eat, and there is nothing wrong with it– so show Glo that. She might be an occasional reader who doesn’t know your history of healthy, hearty eats or your penchant for smaller, more frequent meals.
I could never do what you food bloggers do and I appreciate it, because I get so many great tips and inspiration, and just love reading. But, I usually don’t read the comments because there is rarely “discussion”– it’s great that food blogging is a supportive community, etc. but I like when there is discussion and “teaching moments”, too!!
Hope I said that eloquently enough that you understand I am in no way criticizing, I love your blog and read every day! I just think that as long as a commenter isn’t obscene, inappropriate, etc. it’s ok for the right to free commenting 😉
(and you have the right to free deleting, of course, just don’t take it so personally!)
the stephanie,
i totally agree and figured glo was a new reader, otherwise she would know that i definitely eat enough 😉
you’re right about the discussion aspect as well, which is why i left the comment up. if comments are just rude and don’t contribute to healthy discussion, i delete them. otherwise, i leave them up as everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
xoxox
i think its sad that people think you NEED to eat white rice and tortillas as part of a “healthy” diet. Those things aren’t REAL food, they are altered versions of food. I am just like you. If a restaurant doesn’t serve something that I want to eat, I am not going to get it just to please others.
AMEN 😀
thank you <3
Actually, that ski lift is kinda fun. I swear. They even take your lil’ picture at the top. I have had mine made numerous times. Plus WHERE else would you find useless trinkets than the shop at the top? I kid, I kid. Gatlinburg is FILLED with useless trinket shops. That’s the fun of it, after all.
Can I end this useless and long comment by saying you and the pilot look like the MOST FUN couple ever to hang with?
The End.
hahah where else i would i be able to buy knives, swimwear, cigars and fudge in the same store??? 😀
anytime you wanna chill, holler!
xoxo
OMG Girl, What’s the receipe for that yummy look SALAD? I must have!!!!!
