Orangetheory Blogger Fitness Class
Hi guys! Howโs your day going? Iโve really loved your comments on this morningโs carb cycling post; keep โem coming!ย
My legs are begging for sweet mercy today. (Sorry legs, youโve got two classes to teach later.)
After teaching barre yesterday, I headed over to OrangeTheory Point Loma for a blogger fitness class. Iโve become good friends with some of the OFT staff here, and my friend Hollis (who owns the Point Loma location) asked me if Iโd like to set up a class for blogger friends. I was excited to share the OFT love and invited some local bloggers to join in the fun.
(Jessica,ย Brianne, London, Ashleigh,ย Averyย and Hollis!)
Hollis definitely gave us the special treatment = she kicked our asses. (She does this in the nicest and most energetic way possible though haha.)
After going through a tour of the studio and equipment, we were ready to rock and roll. Yesterdayโs workout was a โpowerโ day, which emphasized plyometrics, quick interval stations, and strong bursts of power in our strength sets. We did four blocks, which included treadmill work,
rowing intervals
and power-focused exercises on the floor, like power push-ups, jump squats, bench hops and half thrusters. It was amazing.
(Shout out to Kelli for the awesome pics!)
One of my favorite things about Orangetheory is that anyone can modify and adjust the workouts according to their needs and fitness level. Youโre given guidelines within a block of time, and you go as fast as you can, or complete as many rounds as you can within that block. Some days are stronger than others, but no matter what, I always push myself to my personal max in class. Itโs a motivating and inspiring atmosphere (plus they play incredible music, which helps too!).
I was also really excited to meet some new blogger friends! I know there are a ton of bloggers here in San Diego, but have only met a couple up until now.ย
We had fun cheering each other on throughout the workout and completed it as a *team.*
Thanks again to coach Hollis for the amazing sweat sesh!
Are there any new or local workouts youโve been wanting to try?
Iโm still dying to try stand-up paddle boarding and just learned about a new spin studio (The Rush) Iโd love to check out.
Have a wonderful night!
xoxo
Gina

I’m hoping to try stand up paddle-boarding when I go to Hawaii next week! I’ve never done it before but I hear it’s a great core workout! An Orangetheory is opening near me but I’m kind of scared to try it…
don’t be scared! definitely give it a whirl once if you want to try it. it’s easy to modify and i love that the workouts change every day
It really looks like an incredible workout! I love switching it up with HIIT. I wish it wasn’t so expensive, but it’s always fun to pop in for a class and they’ve been promoting in SF like crazy!
That looks so fun! I really want to try Barre!
You should contact my sorority sister who has her own business in SD and teaches yoga on SUPs! Here’s her blog: http://www.zengirlchronicles.com and here’s her FB page: https://www.facebook.com/sdyogaluna?fref=nf
Let her know I sent you! (:
she instagrammed me! thank you for the intro- can’t wait to check it out!
Orange theory has been on my list to try forever as well as a new spin class (not flywheel another one).
let me know if you give it a whirl!
I’d love to try Orangetheory. I’m going to try Barry’s Bootcamp next week in San Francisco and am super excited!
i’ve heard it’s very similar. let me know what you think!!
My friend is the manager at The Rush! I would love to give you a free week referral… and definitely take a class with you! ๐ There is one in La Jolla and one in Carmel Valley. Let me know and I can set you up!
no way! i would love it try it out! the la jolla one would probably be closer. thank you!
Wow this looks like a REALLY intense workout!
it’s pretty killer! the great thing is that it can be as challenging as you want to make it
My gym just started offering classes similar to OrangeTheory, and I have been terrified of trying one since January. One of the trainers told me to take her class, and thanks largely in part to your praises of HIIT and the like, I agreed. I am not a runner, by any sense of the word, but I hung in there for the 20 minutes on the treadmill and loved the strength portion & the rowing portions. I’m sure there is an OrangeTheory SOMEWHERE around Chicago and I’d love to take one. Your enthusiasm for changing up your workouts definitely inspired me to get out of my comfort zone ๐
i’m so glad you liked it!! it’s definitely fun and inspiring to try something new ๐
How awesome! I am obsessed with OTF, but I get such anxiety when I go because I always want to get on a treadmill first!
haha i’m always anxious waiting for it to start, too!
Wow I would love this! No one offering in upstate ny!
Great pictures! You were killin’ it Gina!
thank you! it was killing ME ๐
How fun! Wish I lived closer! Guess I’ll get to meet you soon enough, though. ๐ After meeting a bunch of other bloggers at BlogHer, I’m even more excited to meet more!
That looked awesome! So bummed I missed it ๐
It looks SO fun! I hope to test this out when I come visit the states! All my love xo C
I want to try Stand up paddleboarding as well. Hopefully this summer! I wish we had more fitness class options where I live. Sadly we only have a few.
My husband tried stand up paddle boarding in a lake and loved it! Then we tried in the ocean and it was much more difficult. I think we’re going to try again over Labor Day Weekend!
That sounds like it would be right up my alley! I love pushing myself in groups. That’s really something I want to try at my gym- some classes like this. and Barre!! I have a dance background so of course that appeals to me ๐
stand-up paddle boarding is AWESOME! I hopped on my cousin’s board when we went to Maui and didn’t want to come back haha. I bet there are some places down there that do paddle board yoga too…its popular up here!
I would love to try Orangetheory…. I love HIIT workouts, especially in a class format as I often can’t motivate myself enough to push hard!
Can you ask them to open a studio in Grand Cayman? ๐ ๐
Gina! It was so wonderful to meet you, thank you so much for having us down to Orange Theory! It was a BLAST! I would love to see you at The Rush sometime! We’d love to have you! Can’t wait for another blogger meetup. We should do a fun brunch or happy hour and get to know each other a bit more when we aren’t so out of breath ๐
I tried OrangeTheory based on your recommendations a couple of months ago and absolutely LOVED it, but the location was too far for me to go regularly *sadface* Luckily they’re opening up a new studio closer to my house, so I’ve signed up for a membership and I’m SO excited to start going regularly. It’s so much fun getting my ass kicked like that and I love the social/competitive atmosphere!
I really wanted to be there but my body needed something WAY easier after running 17 miles on Saturday. I did OTF for a month (and LOVE it) so I know what an ass kicking it is. I need to meet more fellow SD bloggers, too!
I love Orange Theory, but I also have anxiety about having to start with the weights first – mostly because running is hard for me and I like to get that part over. I would have so much time left in the day if I didn’t get there 15 minutes early just to stake out my Treadmill ๐
I tried orangetheory for the first time yesterday and it was great! Thanks for recommending!
wahoo! happy you liked it ๐
I would love to try orangetheory!
