Adrenal Cocktail Recipe and Why You Should Try It

You may have heard about adrenal cocktails and seen this โ€œtrendyโ€ drink pop up on Instagram. Drinking an adrenal cocktail can help with stress response and so much more, and Iโ€™m breaking it down in todayโ€™s post!

Hi friends! I hope youโ€™re having a wonderful week. Iโ€™m getting everything ready for our 7-day reset – starts this Monday! Sign up here. Itโ€™s freeeeee.

For today’s post,ย I’m super pumped to dive into today’s topic: the adrenal cocktail. It’s been lighting up my social media feed lately, so let’s spill the beans on this intriguing concoction. Picture this: a delightful blend of refreshing coconut water, tangy orange juice, and a pinch of salt.

Now, you might be wondering what the fuss is all about. Well, it all boils down to our energy levels and something called adrenal fatigue. You see, our adrenal glands play a key role in managing stress and maintaining our overall well-being. But sometimes, these little gland warriors can get a bit tired out, leading to a dip in energy and a case of adrenal fatigue.

That’s where the magical mix of orange juice, coconut water, and sea salt swoops in to save the day! This dream team combination is believed to support adrenal function and give our blood sugar levels a much-needed boost. Orange juice packs a punch of vitamin C, which acts like a superhero for our immune system. Coconut water brings hydration to the party, replenishing those electrolytes like a champ. Last but not least, a sprinkle of sea salt adds a savory touch and provides essential minerals that keep our adrenal glands doing their happy dance.

Now, it’s important to note that there are tons of variations of the adrenal cocktail out there. Some folks like to add a dash of lemon juice or even a pinch of cinnamon for an extra kick. Feel free to experiment and make it your own!

I reached out to Mia about chatting about this on the blog and she co-wrote this post!

Adrenal Cocktail Recipe and Why You Should Try It

So what is an adrenal cocktail?

An adrenal cocktail includes a mix of potassium, sodium, and vitamin C. Now, when it comes to adrenal cocktails, some folks like to get a little adventurous with their mix-ins. Picture this: a delicious blend of potassium, sodium, and vitamin C, but with a creamy twist. That’s right, we’re talking about adding a splash of coconut cream to the mix. It’s like going from a regular workout to a full-blown dance party for your taste buds!

But wait, there’s more! If coconut cream isn’t your jam, why not give coconut milk a whirl? This silky and slightly sweet alternative can give your adrenal cocktail a tropical vacation vibe. Just imagine sipping on your coconut-infused elixir and feeling those stress-blasting benefits wash over you like waves on a sandy beach. Ah, paradise in a glass!

It may be helpful in your routine if you:

  • Are tired all of the time and lethargic
  • Stressed out and reach for that extra caffeine to power through the day
  • Have sleep issues and suffer from the โ€œtired but wiredโ€ syndrome

Just know that youโ€™re not alone if you experience these things and we have (one) of the answers for you to potentially help dig yourself out of this hole.

So what are adrenals?

The adrenals sit just on top of both kidneys. ย These little glands produce hormones that regulate your response to stress, metabolism, glucose, blood pressure, and immune system. When they are taxed, the rest of you tanks. The body craves homeostasis and balance. ย It is also really good at adapting, so if youโ€™re stressed in one area, it will downregulate in another area to compensate for what it needs to use to keep you alive and functioning.

  • Example: your cycle gets longer or your period goes missing when youโ€™re under a work deadline or super stressed + over exercise + under eat = the body says โ€œReproduction isnโ€™t a priority right now, so we can skip ovulation this month.โ€

When it comes to supporting our body’s balance, let’s not forget about our hard-working adrenals. These tiny glands, located on top of our kidneys like adorable little hats, play a vital role in balancing hormones and keeping our internal systems running smoothly.

Now, here’s a fun fact: Did you know that adding healthy fats to our diet can support the health of our adrenals? Yup, that’s right! Foods like avocado, nuts, and olive oil are like a nourishing high-five for our adrenals, helping them function at their best and keeping our hormonal harmony in check.

In order to provide the best balance for our body, regulate blood sugar, improve metabolic flexibility, and increase insulin sensitivity, we need to support it!

But, how do we do that? ย

One small way is to add in a little drink called an adrenal cocktail. It provides essential vitamins and minerals, specifically potassium, sodium, and whole-food vitamin C, not ascorbic acid.

Adrenal Cocktail Recipe

Every โ€œAdrenal Cocktailโ€ recipe should deliver approximately:

  • 375mg of Potassium (ATP, electrolytes)
  • 460mg of Sodium (electrolytes, blood pressure & energy)
  • 60mg of Wholefood Vitamin C (our adrenals need more in times of stress & carbohydrate source)

Adrenal cocktails can be a mix of orange juice, coconut water, salt, and/or cream of tartar. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, why not sprinkle in a scoop of collagen powder? It’s like an invisible superhero swooping in to support your joints, hair, nails, and skin โ€“ giving you that extra boost for a truly magnificent workout!

Some of my favorite recipes that are precise and help accommodate many individuals can be found here. I ordered Redmondโ€™s sea salt from Thrive Market <โ€” my link gets you 40% off your first order.ย I also love the work of Morley Robbins and you canย download his free PDF.

When should you drink an adrenal cocktail?

  • For breakfast! ย If youโ€™re not a โ€œbreakfastโ€ person and the thought of stomach food makes you green or you typically intermittently fast and hit the caffeine all morning, this drink is a great way to kickstart your metabolism and stoke the fire.
  • When energy is low around 10 am and 2 – 3 pm
  • Before bed if you typically wake up between 2-4 am and canโ€™t get back to sleep
  • Pre or post-workout

Get your taste buds tingling with a boost of health and flavor from adrenal cocktails!

And there you have it, my fitness-savvy friends! Adrenal cocktails are not just your ordinary pick-me-up drinks, oh no! They’re the secret weapon for maintaining blood sugar regulation and feeling as energized as a kangaroo on a trampoline. Not to mention, they taste like an orange creamsicle, which is basically a flavor explosion in your mouth that would make Willy Wonka jealous. These delicious concoctions are packed with the nutrients your body craves, from vitamin C to electrolytes, giving you a boost of vitality while pleasing your taste buds.

So, the next time you need a sweet and tangy treat that does your body good, whip up an adrenal cocktail and get ready to feel like a superhero with a straw. Trust me, your taste buds and energy levels will thank you! Cheers to good health and tantalizing flavors!

Have you tried an adrenal cocktail before? Is it something you think youโ€™d incorporate into your routine?

Another one of my favorite morning drinks is this morning detox drink.
