Fave cold weather gear + a giveaway- ENDED

Welcome to Tucson, winter.

I have to say, I was a little bit excited when I pulled out my beloved purple Scuba hoodie this morning.

Hoodie

It felt so weird to easily zip it, instead of awkwardly trying to zip it over a large pregnant belly like last year, even though I do kinda miss the belly. I love the soft fabric, the cozy hood and the thumbholes, of course. While it never gets cold enough to warrant working out in a sweatshirt out here, it’s definitely one of my favorite cold weather pieces.

Also on the list: my new arm sleeves that I bought for the race a few weeks ago.

Race stuff

It’s a perfect way to keep warm, without having to commit to a long-sleeved shirt. You get too hot, you take the sleeves off and, in my case, stuff them in your shirt to give you some crazy-looking bumps.

I also love running tights, ear warming headbands and mittens when it’s time for outdoor workouts in the cold. As much as I love all of the extras, hoodies will always be my favorite! I adore so many different styles and brands.

My friends at Under Armour kindly offered to giveaway a fleece storm hoodie to a lucky Fitnessista reader, if you’re looking for an extra way to stay cozy during your workouts, or to and from the gym.

I love your excitement for “winter” but it also gives me a laugh. It’s only December and this morning was 8 degrees F in Fredericton, New Brunswick (CA). I like the cold around Christmas but I definitely envy that you can look cute in winter clothes without having to hide it all under a parka lol

Running outside (hit the pavement or a trail) then warm up with some hot power yoga. It’s the best of both worlds – like chocolate and peanut butter!! (And I just subscribed to your YouTube channel – yeah!)

I live in FL so outside winter workouts don’t get too bad…I still get cold though! I still run outside, bit when it gets really “cold” I stay in the garage and do tabata style workouts.

My fave winter workout is a short 3-mile run, followed by a hot yoga session. 🙂

  9. Megan on December 12, 2012 at 9:29 pm

I am definitely a fan of spin classes in the winter or runs outside as long as there’s not a lot of ice!

  28. Erika on December 12, 2012 at 9:50 pm

My favorite winter workout is going to our local park and running the snow frosted trails – it is beautiful there – scerene and with glorious views at certain parts of the trail that overlook the water with the mountains in the back ground….love love love it 🙂 And I love hoodies – would love to win this 🙂

  29. Jennifer L on December 12, 2012 at 9:52 pm

My least favorite workout is actually my dogs favorite activity so I force myself to do it 😉 I go for a quick walk through our neighborhood a few nights a week during the winter…. Ohio can get pretty brutal with snow/wind but my dog loves it so much that I just suck it up and do it for his sake. Most of the time it can be very refreshing!

  35. Lisa on December 12, 2012 at 9:54 pm

I live in Illinois and I love to hike and play in the snow.

  36. Dorian on December 12, 2012 at 9:55 pm

Running is the best in the winter! I am always way more motivated for a long run on a grey day than a sunny day… weird… !

  37. Meghan B:) on December 12, 2012 at 9:55 pm

Just found this one to do on a treadmill. It’s a HIIT workout (thanks so much for the Fitnessista for introducing those to me) and I love to do it at least once a week. 2 minutes of warm-up on the treadmill, then 10 min of a 15 sec sprint and a 45 sec recover. Follow that with 25 min steady running, and then do another 10 min, but this time do 30 sec sprint and 30 sec recover. I seriously want to die at the end of the second round of ten minutes, but it goes by so quickly, and I feel like I have burned a million calories!

I may be weird, but I love going outside for a run when it’s snowing. It’s so peaceful, and there’s such a great sense of camaraderie with everyone else who’s crazy enough to be out running too!

  39. Stacey on December 12, 2012 at 9:55 pm

My favorite winter workout is skiing!

  41. Kaitlin on December 12, 2012 at 9:57 pm

Hmmm…my favorite winter work out? Right now it’s shoveling (nothing like having to shovel every few hours!), or walking in the snow. This week I’m going to try out Nordic skiing, and I can’t wait!

In the winter I pretty much turn into a bear and hybernate! (It gets COLD here in Boston)There is a
local dance studio that offers virtual workouts throughkype. They are some of the best workouts I’ve ever done and I never leave my apartment. 🙂
