For the treadmill gold

My medal: a blanket of sweat.

4 miles

Since it rained on my training run parade, I set out to do 5 miles on the revolving apparatus of death (aka treadmill) last night. Since I usually just do HIIT on the treadmill now, I don’t hate it quite like I used to (I just get so bored!), and made a promise to myself that if I wanted to cut it short or walk, it was NBD. I ended up doing 4 miles, walked a half to cool down and called it good.

When I run on the treadmill, I’ll prop up a magazine so I can’t see the time and mileage crawl by. It’s also a good distraction and way to catch up on celeb gossip (apparently Suri wants to live with her dad?!). Last night, I remembered that the Olympics were on and ditched the magazine in favor of that. I’m a huge nerd, but I LOVE when music syncs up to certain things (like how our deployment video seemed to match the phrasing of the song exactly). Last night’s events synched up perfectly with my playlist- “Hands In the Air” was perfect with the balance beam routines.

After I finished 3 miles, I had to decide if I wanted to keep going, and watching the incredible athletes put a little pep in my step. They train ALL DAY, every day, and here I was taking less than an hour out of mine for a little run. I did another mile and felt great when it was over. I probably could have made it to 5, but decided not to push things. My cardio endurance is there, but I’m still trying to get my body back in running mode.

Olympics

This morning, I had a lovely date with the foam roller and a bowl of breakfast cookie dough cereal.

Bfast cereal 3

1/2 C oats, big scoop of almond butter, 1/2 scoop Sun Warrior, almond milk, defrosted frozen organic berries <– I add in the berries and put everything in the microwave for 1 minute

+ coffee

Bfast cereal 4

Just hanging out this morning, going to check out a new gym this afternoon with Kelly, and having some friends over for dinner tonight.

Hope you have a happy Monday <3

xoxo

Random- I had the Olympics on yesterday afternoon and decided to sing along to the National Anthem to Liv. She laughed SO hard. Maybe my talent surprised her, baha

It’s so funny to see what babies will get a kick out of 🙂

I love watching the Olympics too, especially when I’m working out at the gym – so motivating!! My fitness motivation right now (apart from the Olympics, obviously) is my 1/2mary in 2 weeks. I ran the full distance this weekend as a training run so I’m feeling good about it!

    • Fitnessista on July 30, 2012 at 12:12 pm

that’s awesome- i love practicing the half before the actual half! then race day, you already know you can do it

  3. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on July 30, 2012 at 11:18 am

Nice work on the treadmill run! I don’t think I’d last 5 miles on the treadmill without getting bored! I am the worst runner ever lol! I loved the gymnastics last night! So amazing to watch!

  4. Kandyce on July 30, 2012 at 11:19 am

My goal is my first marathon in November!

  5. Danica @ It's Progression on July 30, 2012 at 11:26 am

I recently signed up for another race this fall too, having that date set in my mind is a great motivator, otherwise I struggle to get myself going! The olympics are a great distraction from anything right now : )

We are moving this week to a town 220 miles away so my only goal for the week is to survive! The move won’t be to bad since we’re not taking furniture with us. Most of our stuff is furniture I bought 7 years ago when I moved down here for Graduate School and we’re wanting all new furniture anyway. This is the perfect time to get it for us.

I did 60 min bootcamp at 530 this morning! And ran 6 miles yesterday for my half marathon training, :))

Make it Happen Monday: My goal this week is to work out 5 days this week. I did it last week, I will do it this week and it will become a habit. It will. Im trying to sound assertive about it so I begin to believe it.
My current training goal is to run a 10K at the end of September- my furthest distance so far is 7K in training but building up slowly. Fingers crossed.

Love your blog- love, love, love it xxx

Though I have been reading your blog for several months now, I haven’t been reading since the beginning so there are still things on here I haven’t seen! I absolutely love when you (and all bloggers) reference to posts from more than a year ago.. I clicked through to the deployment vid and totally cried! I loved it and am happy your pilot is now in your arms every day

    • Fitnessista on July 30, 2012 at 12:11 pm

      aww thank you!!

  10. becky on July 30, 2012 at 11:42 am

i too get so bored on the treadmill and have to do the same thing with a magazine… i would train outside year round if it didn’t get so stickin’ hot here in texas 🙂

  11. Rachel on July 30, 2012 at 11:46 am

I get so bored on the treadmill too… (I mostly use it in the winter)… HIIT is definitely a good way to switch that up! Still need to try your breakfast cereal 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 30, 2012 at 12:11 pm

if you do, let me know what you think!

  12. Liz @ Southern Charm on July 30, 2012 at 11:50 am

I have a half marathon in October where I want to cut at least 2 minutes off my last half time. Granted last half I just wanted to finish and ran with slower girls for the support. Now I’m in a running club with girls more my speed and I really want to get in to shape and make this race mine 🙂

  13. Lauren T on July 30, 2012 at 11:51 am

I can’t wait to watch the Olympics while I run on the treadmill tonight too! I’m hoping it will motivate me to keep going too 🙂 My goal this week is to get in more strength training, especially abs, and to eat healthier this week than last week. More veggies, less fat and carbs please 🙂

  14. Faith @ For the Health of It on July 30, 2012 at 12:01 pm

I love watching sports when I run on the treadmill. It’s so motivating! My favorite used to be scheduling long runs for Sundays so I could get lost in football games and forget about the fact that I was schlepping along for an hour +! Hurry up NFL season!

  15. Whitney on July 30, 2012 at 12:04 pm

I love this post. I HATE running on the treadmill so so much it hurts. Way to push thru that ish little lady! xo

  16. Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin on July 30, 2012 at 12:18 pm

I am the same way with the treadmill. I could run outside for hours but only last about 20 minutes inside before getting bored! I am about half way through with training for my first 1/2 marathon and am feeling good about it. I just am trying to take care of myself because I don’t want to overdo it and end up with an injury in the home stretch!

    • Fitnessista on July 30, 2012 at 12:20 pm

just keep doing what you’ve been doing! i made the mistake of adding in more run days in the past and paid the price
      xoxo

  17. Lindsay on July 30, 2012 at 12:22 pm

Haha I love when things sync up to music too. That’s why I love watching some kind of sports game with my headphones on at the gym!

  18. Kim@hungryhealthygirl on July 30, 2012 at 12:24 pm

I’m loving the Olympics, especially gymnastics. Your breakfast bowl looks yummy!

  19. amanda on July 30, 2012 at 12:29 pm

way to reconnect with the ex! haha. running is my fave, but I can understand the love/hate thing. my goal to keep me motivated (and moving) is a marathon relay in early December with my big brother. We’re doing the CIM (CA international marathon) together but on a four-person relay team (he and I ran the full Portland marathon last year). I’m also gearing up for some hiking in Yosemite (early Sept) and a trip the Grand Canyon (woot!!!!) mid-September. Hoping my lower half will be nice and strong – and ready for those hills!

  20. Julia on July 30, 2012 at 1:05 pm

I have been reading your blog for awhile and love it. You look fantastic considering you just had a baby a few months ago. I wonder if you’ve noticed changes in your body since having livi and if you’d care to blog about them? I just remember feeling so strange exercising after my first son was born, and now I’ve had two and need to get back in shape….

  21. Beks on July 30, 2012 at 1:15 pm

I started the Couch to 10K program on my phone last night (Free Android App by Komen), and I’m going to run my first 5K in October.

  22. Emma @ BITE | Boredom Is The Enemy on July 30, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Okay I’m so weird, but I LOVE the treadmill and HATE running outside. I’m constantly changing the speed/incline, so not just running steady state, but I push myself so much harder on the ‘mill than when it’s just me bopping along on the sidewalk. Maybe I need a good heart rate monitor or something. I’d love to be an outdoor runner, and NYC (where I live) is perfect for it. I just get so bored and lazy. Any thoughts?

    • Fitnessista on July 30, 2012 at 1:39 pm

it’s ok, we can still be friends haha
maybe having a garmin or heart rate monitor would help?

  23. Courtney @ Brussel Sprouts and Beer on July 30, 2012 at 1:23 pm

My workout motivation right now is training for my very first 5K coming up in September. I am very excited for and it and I’m feeling ready!

  24. Amanda on July 30, 2012 at 1:46 pm

My workout motivation is my upcoming wedding! I’m 3 months away and really trying to clean up my eats and keep at my workouts. I’ve been focusing on strength training to get my back and arms looking great. I want to feel my best, so it’s great motivation!

  25. Kelsey on July 30, 2012 at 1:58 pm

Get to yoga 4 times this week! I usually have to go in the morning before work since my evenings fill up, so by Friday a 6am class is hard to get up for. Hoping to make it at least Monday-Thursday!

  26. jodie on July 30, 2012 at 2:12 pm

Trying the cookie dough cereal tomorrow for the first. Looking forward to it.

  27. Kristen on July 30, 2012 at 2:15 pm

  28. Averie @ Averie Cooks on July 30, 2012 at 2:18 pm

running on a treadmill is one of my least fave things in the entire world – glad you were able to get a good workout in and zone out and ignore the mileage stats – so hard to do when there’s nothing….to look at or do when on one!

  29. Catalina @ Cake with Love on July 30, 2012 at 2:26 pm

We are going to Turkey in one week, so thats my motivation, to be in shape and loof good in a bikini! 🙂

i cry every time i watch your deployment video! you guys are so cute!!

i asked my husband to start training for some races in the fall with me, a little something we can do together, so that’s my motivation. i’m excited!!

  35. Mer @mersworld on July 30, 2012 at 4:51 pm

It’s funny, I had the Olympics on last night and this morning (News recaps) when I was on the treadmill and watching them really made the time fly! I usually stare at the clock and count down the minutes, but I was so engrossed in watching that I made it through 30 minutes quickly! I might have to start using my People mag to cover the time- love that tip! And, why would Suri want to live with her Dad. Argh.

  36. Eva @ Committed2Nutrition on July 30, 2012 at 4:58 pm

Love your breakfast! right up my alley. and I hate the treadmil.. please give me zumba!

  37. Abby on July 30, 2012 at 5:02 pm

The only way I can get in a decent treadmill distance run is if I am listening to a really good audio book put podcast, music isn’t enough of a distraction haha.

  38. Natalie on July 30, 2012 at 5:13 pm

I have been reading for about a year and have always wanted to make your amazeballs. I finally bought the ingredients and made them today. Just had some for a snack. Delish!

  39. Breakfast looks like a big bowl of yum! Especially digging the fiber-licious berries! My bowl of Kellogg’s FiberPlus Cinnamon Oat Crunch cereal in the am looks kind of similar. I’m all about amping it up with fresh fruit, nut butter, and even a little Greek yogurt from time to time.

  40. Lydia @HappyHealthyConfident on July 30, 2012 at 5:35 pm

I love when my music syncs up with the TV!!

It’s so inspirational I train even harder now.

  42. Meg on July 30, 2012 at 6:03 pm

I’ve made your breakfast cookie before and LOVED it, but haven’t made the cookie dough cereal and my friend has it EVERY morning. I think the bowl above in your post is your best looking one yet! I need to make it 😉 I have so many raspberries (I went raspberry picking this weekend), so I hope to make mine look like yours tomorrow <3

  43. Sara on July 30, 2012 at 6:34 pm

Making it happen! Over the weekend I finally got my semester schedule together and realised that if I don’t sleep in, I actually CAN fit everything in and maybe not be a ridiculous mess when exams roll around. Last night was a good upper body workout in the gym, finally.

That’s so funny Liv laughing at you when you were singing. They are so cute and so unselfconscious.

  44. Therese on July 30, 2012 at 9:15 pm

    Hi Gina,

I thought today was your day off from working out according to your schedule for the week? Unless you are checking out the new gym for another reason..?

      i went to get a membership! 🙂

  45. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 30, 2012 at 9:27 pm

Nice run! I find it so hard to stay on the treadmill for longer than 4 or so miles – I get so bored! The Olympics would be a good distraction though. I just wish I could actually run right now! Boo bad knees. 😛

  46. Emily on July 30, 2012 at 10:08 pm

Okay. I just finally ordered a new bag of Sunwarrior (after being without it for 6 months!) and I can’t wait for it to arrive so I can finally try your breakfast cereal. It always looks so amazing!
And it sounds like you had a great run, despite being on the hamster wheel. Once I hit 3 miles, I start getting reeeaallllyy bored if I’m not doing HIIT or running outside. At least you had the Olympics to distract you!

  47. Joelle (on a pink typewriter) on July 30, 2012 at 10:22 pm

The foam roller is my new best friend because I’ve been suffering from horrible IT band issues. The foam roller is a godsend.

    PS. Super cute placemat!

  48. Jaclyn on July 30, 2012 at 10:48 pm

My current motivation is my very first gym membership, lol. I am in pretty decent shape and have been working out at home for years, doing various videos and working with the equipment that I have, but I’ve recently been inspired by Jamie Eason’s LiveFit workouts. I really want to gain some major muscles, and most of the exercises require heavier weights and gym equipment, so my boyfriend and I finally decided to go for it. I’m really excited to start training harder, lifting heavier, and getting stronger! 🙂

  49. Maria on July 30, 2012 at 11:05 pm

Current workout motivation? Getting through labor and delivery next month! hehe 🙂 Your comment about Suri made me LOL…When I run on the treadmill, I always prop up a magazine to hide the mileage.

  50. Ginny on July 30, 2012 at 11:08 pm

Oh, treadmills! I have to read too. Otherwise, I get bored senseless!
