Oh hey, belly

Big difference this week!

4 1/2 weeks:                                                                         10 1/2 weeks:

week2 10week (2)

12 1/2 weeks:                                                     15 weeks:

12weeks    15weeks

Oh hey, belly!

One thing I’ve noticed is that my belly is positioned very high on my torso. My friend (who is due a week before me!) is having a boy and her belly is LOW and tiny. I decided to Google to see what this meant, because usually people say you can predict the gender by “how you’re carrying.” Of course, these are totally wives’ tales, but it’s fun to play along.

From this website:

High or low? Front or back?

The way that we carry a baby is one the most popular methods of predicting the sex and you’re likely to encounter plenty of people who’ll give an accurate gender diagnosis based on the position of your bump. It’s generally believed that if we’re low and out front, it’s a boy but if the bump is high and we’re visibly pregnant from the back, we’ve got a girl. Again, scientists have put a damper on this belief, citing that the way we carry is a result of muscle tone and the position the baby has adapted in the uterus. Spoilsports!

Hopefully we’ll find out on Friday!

Right now, I’m pretty sure the baby likes:

-Zumba

-Acupuncture (the energy I feel during acupuncture right now is incredible)

-Massages –an excuse to get them frequently, yes?

-Vosges chocolate

choc

-Spicy- I’ve been going through a bottle of this hot sauce each week… and pay for it in heartburn every night. And I just keep going back for more.

hot sauce

-Goat cheese (I just make sure it’s pasteurized)

-Salad beasts and smoothies

-Belly rubs and kisses from its Dad 🙂

What I’m still staying far away from:

-Chicken and sometimes fish [beef and pork are always off the list for me]. They just sound terrible most of the time, and if I have fish I really have to be in the mood for it and it can’t smell the least bit fishy.

-Summer squashes and eggplant. I think it’s a texture thing?

-Sweets. My sweet tooth seems to have taken a permanent vacay, unless it’s dark chocolate 🙂

Random:

I think I may need to invest in one of those belly band things. My bellybutton is starting to look like a small swimming pool and you can see it through my shirts. Hawt.

Everyday around noon, I’ve been hit in the face with headaches. I found that having a cup of coffee diluted with almond milk helps me make it through the day. It’s weird because I wasn’t drinking coffee before I started baking the gluten-free bun, but have to have a little everyday. [They said up to 2 cups is safe, but I keep it under 1 cup]

-I wasn’t sure how it would feel to go through major changes with my body. For the first time ever, my stomach is growing and I’m gaining weight and it’s a GOOD thing. I’m really happy to find that I’m excited with everything going on, and every time there’s a visible change, it makes me ecstatic instead of afraid. I just feel like I’m a vessel for a small human and that it’s a temporary thing- my body is doing exactly what it’s supposed to. I’m working to maintain my fitness (cardio almost everyday with varying intensities, weights 3x a week, flexibility training via yoga + more rest if I feel like I need it that day) and know that I’ll get to push myself and get back to where I was after the little nugget is born. Another fun thing has been exploring with pregnancy fashion. Before, I almost never wore empire-waist pieces and now they’re my best friend 🙂

you probably are having a girl, especially since you said you guys were having tons of sex. As you know from your TCOYF days, those girl spermies were probably surviving all the boys and just waiting around for that egg! can’t wait till Friday- I’m sure you can’t either!! 🙂

I am right at 24 weeks. I am carrying low and am gaining weight everywhere, not just in my baby belly. Everyone SWORE to me up and down that this meant we were having a girl. But, we are on TEAM BLUE, so that wives’ tale is definitely not true! ?

So far, my baby boy loves running and yoga. Nothing is really hurting yet, so I’m taking this as a good sign!

I am also LOVING spicy foods. I swear I could eat taco salads and spicy salsa for dinner EVERY night. I’ve had to invest in the mega tub of TUMS. Kind of chalky, but they work!

I have one of those belly band things. I am certainly not trying to dissuade you from getting one, but I find the either roll down or roll up. Either way, they don’t stay in place. I much prefer the Be Maternity Seamless Tanks from Target. They run about $24.99 and I can wear them under everything! I have it in both black and grey.

In my first trimester, I swear my body took pregnancy fatigue to a whole new level. I called it pregnancy narcolepsy. Between that and the headaches, I felt like I could not function. Things eased up in the second trimester and I got a lot of energy back and the headaches subsided. I still get them every now and then, but not at all like before.

Oh, and for other cute mama-to-be workout gear, check out For Two Fitness (their tanks are super awesome!) and Fit2B Mom!

I’ve always found that if you can tell that a person from the back is pregnant they’re having a boy, like if you’re waddling hardcore or wider in the back 🙂 Can’t wait for you to find out what you’re having! And good for you to keep up the fitness! That’s definitely motivating and encouraging!

  11. Ambre on July 13, 2011 at 4:19 pm

A couple of my friends had baby girls three years ago, and they both carried high, but you could NOT tell they were pregnant from behind AT ALL!! They both have tiny body frames like you 🙂

  12. Dani on July 13, 2011 at 4:19 pm

    gorgeous girl!!

  13. Laura on July 13, 2011 at 4:22 pm

just noticed you’re wearing the same shorts in each picture – and I love them! I’ve been searching for a pair of yoga shorts that aren’t too short. where are yours from?

  15. Kim @ girlevolving on July 13, 2011 at 4:25 pm

I’m carrying high and it’s a boy. And he had a really high heartrate the first time (they say higher is girls), so we bucked both those! 🙂

So happy for you and the Pilot! <3

Gina, you’re such an inspiration for the positive attitude you have towards your body changing as you carry your baby…it’s WONDERFUL! 😀 Thank you so much for sharing the experience with us 🙂
I love those empire tops, that is my favourite style to wear (and I’m not even pregnant, lol!) They’re so comfortable and still feminine. You look absolutely beautiful – glowing! <3 xyx
PS: Dark chocolate? Your baby has amazing taste, lol!

You are such a cute pregnant lady!

I remember my sister’s belly button was huge during her pregnancies — she should have gotten that belly band thing too.

  19. kara on July 13, 2011 at 4:30 pm

how exciting! you look wonderful!! are you thinking names yet and when you pick, will you share or will it be a secret until baby makes her/his debut?

  20. Julia on July 13, 2011 at 4:31 pm

Belly bands are the best! I was in love with mine. So comfy. So nice for my back…

  23. Jaime on July 13, 2011 at 4:35 pm

SO excited for when you find out the sex and share it with us! You look fantastic 🙂

I’m totally not asking you to share what they are, but do you and the Pilot have names picked out yet?

  24. Ana on July 13, 2011 at 4:44 pm

I was low and in the front and I had a girl. All the old wives tales pointed to boy and as I said before I had a girl.

    Oh and you look adorable.

  25. Lauren on July 13, 2011 at 4:51 pm

Adorable! I was high and I had a girl! 🙂 hope you find out Friday! Eek, so exciting! When we found out it was a girl ( which was a year from last week), I screamed and scared the tech! Haha!

  26. Shannon on July 13, 2011 at 4:55 pm

You are actually carrying your baby alot like how my daughter carried her little boy (we were blessed with his arrival on July 1st) she didn’t gain a whole lot of weight all over just mainly looked like in her torso (she actually stayed like this until she delivered him – we kept thinking when is he going to drop!)

By the way you look absolutely fantabulous pregnant & you defintely have the “glow” 🙂

Love this new Family blog its great to see you & the Pilot starting a “new adventure” and sharing it with all of your followers! Wish you all the best!

  28. Kara on July 13, 2011 at 4:56 pm

Please take this in a non-creeperish way, but that baby is doing good things for your butt. It must be the extra weight resistance when you do squats? 🙂

  29. BethT on July 13, 2011 at 4:59 pm

I’m so excited for you to find out! I was convinced I was having a boy. And when they said, it’s a girl!, I was SO shocked, excited, happy….and suddenly couldn’t imagine having anything BUT a girl!

  30. Katie on July 13, 2011 at 5:04 pm

I’m 25 weeks pregnant with a girl and carrying high and wide. 🙂 At 8 weeks (before I had gained any weight) I noticed that I appeared wider at the waist than I used to, even though my belly was still flat. I’m tall with a short torso and long limbs, though, so I might just look like I’m carrying high because of my body type, even though baby is already starting to uncomfortably crowd my ribcage!

  31. britt on July 13, 2011 at 5:05 pm

LOVE the belly pics! you look too cute 🙂

  32. Running Betty on July 13, 2011 at 5:08 pm

The woman who did my first ultrasound of my first daughter said, regarding guessing gender, “parental intuition is 90% correct.”
You can put a bandaid on your belly button.
    Great pics!

  33. Mandy on July 13, 2011 at 5:09 pm

Low front, boy for me! But I’ve actually heard that carrying low is supposed to mean “girl”, haha. It’s all fun but I just decided to wait for the 20-week ultrasound – too early could result in a false prediction, and the weeks started passing by real fast in the second trimester anyway. 😀

I sure hope they were right and “he” doesn’t turn out to be a “she” at birth – though I’d be happy with either, I have all this boy-themed stuff now!

  34. s on July 13, 2011 at 5:11 pm

this post was kinda funny 🙂
i kinda can’t wait to find out the sex of your gluten-free bun in the oven. i don’t know if that’s creepy or not, but hey.

and wooloomoolooo!! that caught my attention, haha.

  35. Andrea on July 13, 2011 at 5:18 pm

Look at that lil’ belly! Soo cute! I love reading your family posts and seeing updates. I always thought of having a baby as being scary but your posts almost make me want to have a little “nugget” someday too 🙂 Also..I somehow JUST tried Vosges this week..a Wooloomooloo bar (how fun is that name?!) it was amazing..and Blood Orange Caramel?? OMG, need to try that!

  36. Lauren on July 13, 2011 at 5:20 pm

i’ve been meaning to try those target tanks! i’m not pregnant, but i do have a belly and i HATE having things cling to it. yuck yuck yuck. i ordered these bubble tanks from old navy for 35% off the other day, so i’m hoping i like them and can avoid the clingy action.

  37. Ashley on July 13, 2011 at 5:20 pm

I tried a couple of belly bands and my favorite was be band from target. I found it didn’t roll up or down, breathes well in this heat and they have black and white. Good luck! Can’t wait to find out if it’s a girl or boy!

  38. OntarioGirl on July 13, 2011 at 5:26 pm

For some reason that old wives tale has really stuck with me and I always seem to guess what people are having by the way they are carrying. More often than not when a person is carrying higher it has been a girl and I’ve guessed correctly so there could be some truth to it?! lol I definitely think you’re having a girl! Can’t wait to hear 🙂

  39. Sonia (the Mexigarian) on July 13, 2011 at 5:27 pm

2 – I totally have 3 of those Target babydoll workout tops. Love them! So comfy. I hate running in tight tops; these stay put and look great.

I think you’re having a girl, no reason, just a guess 😉 Your belly looks so tiny after just reading Emily’s post at 26 weeks!

  42. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on July 13, 2011 at 5:43 pm

I’ve heard that carrying low means you have a boy. I bet you and the pilot are excited to find out what the gender is!

I have craved spicy my whole pregnancy, too- so delicious!

I love your growing bump- it’s so cute! I remember when I felt so big around 15 weeks… now at 32 weeks I laugh because I’m ginormous compared to then… but I’m sure in another few weeks I’ll laugh at myself for thinking I’m big now, too 🙂

  44. Kylee on July 13, 2011 at 5:50 pm

My Mom always carried high with her girls (3) and low with her boys (2)!! I hope it’s a girl 🙂 I’m sure she will be beautiful and healthy just like you!!

    Best,

Yay! Congrats…. you look so cute preggers! Also, my friend got the belly band and she wore ti all the time. It was her lifesaver. Good luck with the headaches. I hear peppermint oil helps.

  47. Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun on July 13, 2011 at 6:13 pm

You are looking great! Such a cute little baby bump 🙂
I remember the heartburn every night….couldn’t have been the can of coke I had each night before bed! Oh my, what was I thinking. I used to crave salty/savory foods before I had kids, but after pregnancy, I’m all about the sweets. Funny how that changes!

  48. Rachael on July 13, 2011 at 6:18 pm

I love seeing other pregnant women – happiness in photo form!
I’m carrying pretty high and didn’t start showing until 6 and a half months…from which point on my belly has ballooned. The old wives’ tale proved true – having a girl in five weeks! Good luck on your journey – it goes so fast!

  49. Shayla @ The Good Life on July 13, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Awww you look to cute Gina!! And I love those workout tops, and I’m not even pregnant (yet!) 😉

I’ve had body image struggles, but deep in my heart (although I won’t know for sure until I’m there), that I’ll feel the same as you in that though you’re gaining weight, it’s a GOOD thing and the body (and baby) is a miracle and doing what it’s supposed to be doing…loved how your worded that 🙂

  50. mi-an on July 13, 2011 at 6:39 pm

awww!!! can’t wait to find out the sex of your baby!! i’m guessing girl!

my sis in law and bro just got their first ultrasound pic of their baby today!! little mini grape!! :))
