Show Me Your Smoothie

That sounds risqué, huh? 😉 More on that in a sec.

How’s your Indian Food Wednesday been?

Mine has been bueno, and I have some lovely slow cooker eggplant curry cooking up 😀 It will be waiting and ready for feast time after Zumba.

If it tastes like it smells, I’ll share the recipe with ya’ll tomorrow 😀

Today, Ashley and I hit up the Farmers Market and the pool (gloooorious) and I also ran some errands. Every week I schedule a low-key day (with less training appointments) so I have an easy day amidst the craziness. Today was my day 🙂

Some eats:

Beast, covered in Garlic Gold. I’m officially obsessed.. and gum manufacturers rejoice

beast

Millet + Nutritional yeast

millet

2 Giant PINK smoothies (I hate pink, obviously)

smoothie (2)

-Water

-1 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior

-frozen strawberries

-1/2 T maca

-1 T raw cacao

-vanilla Stevia

*Confession: I’m really boring with smoothies. I love them so much, but I do the same thing over and over and overrrrrr…

Same thing with juices.

Look familiar?

green juice

Yup, because I have it ALL the time.

When it’s totally cool to stick with what you know, it’s really easy to get into food ruts and get bored. I’ve also gotten about a thousand requests for a smoothie and juice reader’s request and thought this would be a good way to share awesome recipes, since I’m a repeat smoothie recipe offender.

So it’s time to

SHOW ME YOUR SMOOTHIE 😀

Send me a pic and ingredients for your favorite smoothie or juice combo. Try to pick something *fun and different* so we can share some great combo ideas! Just email your pic and ingredients to fitnessista at gmail dot com and I’ll do a massive fun post with all of them on Monday morning, April 19th.

Sound fun?? I think so 🙂

Time to Zumbaaaaaaaaa <3

xoxo,

Gina

I’ll try to think of a fun smoothie to send your way!

I hope some people submit recipes for chocolate protein powder. i’ve got a whole thing of it and have no idea what to make with it! lol.

    • LisaG on April 14, 2010 at 6:32 pm

You need to make the chocolate cherry bomb with it. That’s what I do with my chocolate amazing grass.

    • Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on April 14, 2010 at 11:55 pm

Jeannette I have a recipe on my blog that I made recently and it’s in my Vegan Protein Post. There are links on the right hand margin to the Vegan Protein Post. I have a half dozen Chocolate Protein Powder recipes there. I cant believe I saw your comment…I hope you see this one 🙂

  5. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on April 14, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Yay I’m excited for your smoothie post because I just started making them more. I think I’m going to finally get some sun warrior protein so I can have them as a part of my breakfast 🙂

  8. Chloe (Naturally Frugal) on April 14, 2010 at 5:35 pm

That garlic looks amazing – I love scraping out the garlic whenever it gets nice and crunchy from whatever I’m cooking. I’ll definitely send my favorite smoothie in this weekend!

  9. Kelly on April 14, 2010 at 5:37 pm

I need to hop on the smoothie bandwagon. I’ve never made one 🙁

Hi Gina. I am de-lurking in honor of Indian food Wednesday because I just tried the most outstanding thing- Indian curried hummus! It is especially amazing on apple slices.

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2010 at 7:25 pm

WHAT?!? did you make or buy it? that sounds incredible

      • Dana in KC on April 15, 2010 at 9:18 am

I bought it at Whole Foods. It is a local product here in Kansas City. I’m looking forward to recreating.

  13. Carly @ The Road To Health on April 14, 2010 at 5:56 pm

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2010 at 7:25 pm

      heck yeah i have… i’ve made it, too 🙂

  15. Emma on April 14, 2010 at 6:12 pm

hey gina! glee was amazing last night, right?! i have a question for you…i like running as a way of mixing up my workouts, but recently i’ve been getting really bad shin splints whenever i do it. i took a few week break from it to see if they would feel better, and then the other day i did a treadmill workout and now they are back with a vengeance 🙁 do you have any advice for what to do about it? should i just stop running?

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2010 at 7:25 pm

i don’t think you need to stop running, but i do think you need to make sure you’re wearing good shoes and possibly see a doc to check what’s goin on. sorry they’re bothering you 🙁

  16. Sarah on April 14, 2010 at 6:26 pm

Ooo! I am really looking forward to hearing about how the Indian food went…it’s my favorite but I am a bit terrified to make it myself. I’m also SUPER boring when it comes to my smoothies, but I love them. I’m excited for some new ideas 🙂

  17. Run Sarah on April 14, 2010 at 6:31 pm

I would LOVE the recipe – Indian + slow cooker? Sounds delish and convenient! I will have to send my smoothie recipe to you, I need to find some decent photos!

  20. Sarah @ THE FOODIE DIARIES on April 14, 2010 at 7:10 pm

neeeeed a slow cooker–if just to make eggplant curry. i’m obsessed with eggplant–but im a repeat eggplant offender. i always just grill, top with hummus & broil. amazing–but i need to switch it up!

    • stephanie on April 15, 2010 at 2:14 am

umm yummmmmmm! thanks for the eggplant idea!

  21. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on April 14, 2010 at 7:14 pm

I’m super boring with smoothies, but I just use the ingredients I have in the apartment. I don’t really get too inspired for them 🙁

  22. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on April 14, 2010 at 7:17 pm

HAHAHAHA THIS is why this post was blocked at work… smoothie triggers the “inappropriate content” filter!

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2010 at 7:23 pm

      haha, awesome!

  23. Carrie on April 14, 2010 at 7:20 pm

My favorite has always been 1 banana (frozen), chocolate almond milk, spinach, peanut butter, vanilla, and a scoop or two of Aria vanilla protein powder (which I only use for the flavor…sad I know). In the end this totally tastes like a Butterfinger, I’m not crazy. Go. Do.

And make sure you make it as smooth as possible, because nobody likes a spinach chunks in their smoothie.

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2010 at 7:23 pm

that sounds beautiful! send me a pic and i’ll include it in the post 🙂

  24. Melissa (Melissa Likes To Eat) on April 14, 2010 at 7:33 pm

  29. Hanna on April 14, 2010 at 9:35 pm

what a great idea! I can’t wait to see all the smoothies!
I have a question for you…you always use the vitamix- do you like it for any reason specifically?
I use this old $20 blender i have, and i aaalllwaayys have chunks of fruit (which i hate), even if i blend it for 10 mintues! I always thought that this was just a blender issue in general…but does a better blender make all the difference? Is that why everyone loves the vitamix so much?
any suggestions on other (student budget friendly : ) ) options?

    now i am craving a smoothie. : )

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2010 at 9:41 pm

      hey hanna,
the vitamix changed my life. no joke. i had a little $15 blender in college that didn’t blend anything and i actually had smash stuff into the blades with a wooden spoon. the vitamix makes smoothies (hummus, soup, everything) SO smooth. no chunks at all, unless you want them!
i heard that blendtec also has great blenders, or the magic bullet.
      hope this helps a little!
      xoxo

what brand of maca do you use?

    • Fitnessista on April 14, 2010 at 9:42 pm

I made such a delicious new smoothie this morning! Alas I did not take a pic because a) I could not find my camera and was already late to work b) it just looked like a basic green monster anyway. Sooo good!

Handful spinach, 1 golden delicious apple (chopped up), 1 scoop Muscle Gauge cinnamon bun pp, 1/8 tsp xanthan gum, 1/4 tsp guar gum, stevia, splash of vanilla extract, ~1 cup water, lots of ice – blend!

I am the QUEEN of food ruts — I just posted about this the other day! I eat almost the same exact thing every day. I’ve always been like this — my senior year of college I ate Rice Chex literally every single day for breakfast for at least six months. At least I’ve expanded to better things to get stuck on…it’s just so easy!

I just e-mailed my current smoothie of choice. Great idea to collect some varaitions!
