SP hash + a new barre burner {Video}

Hi friends 🙂 Congrats to those of you who have been killing it with Summer Shape Up so far. I can’t believe week 1 is almost over! I’ll be posting some of your awesome check-ins, along with the Stitch Fix giveaway winner tomorrow morning. If you’re subscribed to my newsletter (just leave a comment below and click the box to sign up if you haven’t already), you’ll also get your email with the Week 2 password. Just a head’s up about the SF giveaway: only 4 people have submitted video entries so far. There are 4 winners for the video portion… just sayin’ 😉

Before we get to today’s workout video, I to share an amazing breakfast I’ve been enjoying lately:

Omeletandsphash

2-egg omelet with sautéed jalapeño, turkey, crumbled goat cheese, salsa verde and sweet potato hash. For the hash, I boiled a chopped sweet potato, and then sautéed it in a skillet with some butter, smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne, cumin, salt and pepper. It was one of those simple recipes that fell off the radar– I’m glad to have to back.

Thank you so much to those of you who have recently subscribed to our new YouTube channel. We’ll be posting weekly dance fitness videos (Bellydance, Zumba, jazz, hip hop…) in addition to bodyweight strength workouts you can do anywhere.

Here’s one that Sasha and I recently made:

Sasha’s teaching this one: a short barre burner, emphasizing core and leg strength. My flip ran out of camera space halfway through, so we got to film the left side twice– my legs were screaming! Of course, there’s the necessary blooper at the end.

A text version:

If you’re doing Summer Shape Up, I’d recommend adding this quick video in at the end of tomorrow’s workout and enjoying today as a well-deserved rest day. If you’re not following the Shape Up and want a quick, intense leg burner, check it! Please let us know what you think and what you’d like to see in the future 🙂

Have a great day!

xoxo

Gina

I wanna join summer shape up!!! sweet potato hash sounds like an amazing bfast idea… i make it at night as a side for grilled chicken and broccoli and add lots of onion!

  2. Sharon on June 6, 2013 at 10:57 am

Love the breaky:) Do you make your own salsa verde?

  3. Lisa on June 6, 2013 at 11:02 am

Oh my goshhh..That sweet potato hash looks absolutely wonderful!!
    Need to recreate stat.
So excited for the barre burner. I really want to take a certification class to get certified in barre, but they’re nearly impossible to find where I live.

  4. Michele on June 6, 2013 at 11:15 am

amazing video- thank you SO MUCH! I loooove barre workouts, but holy crap they’re expensive! and it’s hard to justify that much $$ for *one* type of workout. At least at a gym I have options to mix it up, even if there aren’t classes. again, thank you!!

  5. Hayley on June 6, 2013 at 11:22 am

Can we submit our videos to you via email? If so, what is it?

  6. Brittany on June 6, 2013 at 11:34 am

    Hi Gina!
I tried to register for my first half marathon with you in November– eeeeek!!!
The coupon code didn’t work for some reason. It said it was either expired or not yet valid.
Super nervous/excited to be doing it!

Mmm- that breakfast looks great! Definitely going to put that into my rotation of breakfast’s to eat 🙂

That workout looks like a killer. I will definitely be doing it this weekend (and likely cursing you as my legs feel the burn).

    Hi Gina,

Love the Barre workouts! I also wanted to let you know that for some reason your blog is not displaying properly on my computer in either firefox or chrome. I can’t see the images (which is a bummer because I’d love to print the Barre workout) and there is not background, only the plain text. It looks fine on my iphone, so I don’t know if anyone else is having this problem, but it has been persisting for me for a couple days now. I thought you’d want to know!

Thanks again for all you do on this blog!

  9. Kara on June 6, 2013 at 11:50 am

Hi Gina- love your blog!!! Question- how do you prepare your salmon for baby meals? Looks so good! Thanks for your awesome recipes!

  15. Haily Foytik on June 6, 2013 at 12:33 pm

Ok, I posted it on the SSU post but didn’t see a lot of entries so here it is as well! Fingers crossed !

Ok, I just uploaded my video. I was super nervous because I felt like I was actually talking to you! And when I say “school” I mean I am going back to work as a teacher, not a student. See? Nervous!

  20. Jennifer on June 6, 2013 at 1:09 pm

barre was wonderful. sweatin’ like crazy after doing workout 1 and the barre video

  21. Jill on June 6, 2013 at 1:14 pm

I swapped out my rest day for yesterday, so I completed day 3 today: workout 1 + the hill challenge. I really liked this combo and already feel myself getting stronger and my energy levels increasing. My legs are finally feeling back to normal. This is definitely a tough work-out, but great! I’m loving the (intense) burn!

  22. Tracy on June 6, 2013 at 1:21 pm

Very excited about the barre burner! Definitely planning on doing it after cardio tomorrow morning. I’ll let you know how it goes!

  23. Carly M on June 6, 2013 at 1:27 pm

I also did yesterday as a rest day and today with the hill cardio and workout 1. I workout at 5am and this morning I was clearly still half asleep – I did 9 of the 20 minutes on the elliptical machine steadily increasing my resistance until I realized the machine was NOT actually changing. Stupid machine. I swear the 24 hour gym I go to gets all the broken equipment from the other locations. 🙁

  24. Alex on June 6, 2013 at 1:33 pm

Haven’t been getting the SSU emails so I’m trying a different one (I haven’t logged onto AOL in years…)

  25. Sarabell on June 6, 2013 at 1:35 pm

I have my postpartum check up tomorrow and I’m so excited to be cleared for exercise so I can start these videos!

  26. Alex on June 6, 2013 at 1:35 pm

Haven’t been getting the SSU emails so I’m trying a different address (I haven’t logged onto AOL in years…). Hopefully this will work 🙂

One more time for good measure.

Thank you so much for a new barre video, can not wait to try it!!

  30. Laura B on June 6, 2013 at 3:24 pm

Thanks for the new barre workout! I added it after today’s workout (took a rest day yesterday) along with an ab burner. Pretty sure I’m going to feel it tomorrow! I was a sweaty mess after the hill workout!

  31. Amanda on June 6, 2013 at 3:27 pm

Did Physique 57 for my active recovery today but can’t wait to try your barre blitz tomorrow!!

  32. Alexandra on June 6, 2013 at 3:37 pm

I love barremethod! I’ve taken a few classes and they are always killer!

  33. Beverly Aragon on June 6, 2013 at 4:19 pm

Active recovery day = YOGA 🙂 Felt so good to gently stretch out my sore muscles. Looking forward to doing the Barre Burner as part of tomorrow’s workout!

  34. Naomi on June 6, 2013 at 4:43 pm

Today was definitely a much needed rest day. My body is s sore. Tomorrow will be tough–workout #1, hiit, and the barre video?? My legs hurt just thinking about it 😉

  35. Vera on June 6, 2013 at 5:10 pm

I also had a much needed rest day today. So nice to not feel guilty about taking a day off.

I’m so excited about the summer shape up challenge! I didn’t participate this week (had a race this weekend and needed the extra rest) but I’m so excited to jump into it tomorrow/Saturday! The workouts look great and I really needed the boost to mix things up!

  40. Christa @ Edible Balance on June 6, 2013 at 5:50 pm

yummmm, love the hash… that is my favorite way to eat sweet potatoes!

  41. Paige on June 6, 2013 at 6:48 pm

  42. Aida on June 6, 2013 at 6:49 pm

I would like todo the ssu but am not getting emails or password from you 🙁

  43. Lauren @ Eat Like An Elephant on June 6, 2013 at 7:02 pm

Ah I just completed this workout and I LOVE it! I’m super uncoordinated so I can never quite get into your dance style cardio videos, try as I might. This one was super easy to follow! Will definitely be bookmarking this page and using it all the time 🙂

  44. Tory on June 6, 2013 at 8:24 pm

I slept in today so I didn’t have time to workout before work. Luckily I found it in me to go to the gym afterwards, which almost never happens. I attribute the extra push to SSU!
