The proof is in the pudding

I’ve been crying on and off all day today.

People must think I’m crazy.. walking around with my belly sticking out and bloodshot eyes, goofy grin on my face.

I’m excited, thrilled beyond belief, and shocked.

We had our halfway ultrasound today- the last one before we get to meet the little nugget in person.

We got to our appt at 8:30 and I was surprised when a male technician called us back for our ultrasound. It was my first time having a dude as the ultrasound tech, and he was fantastic. He explained everything so thoroughly and per usual, my heart soared as soon as I saw the tiny figure on the screen.

baby

He did a LOT of measurements today, to make sure everything was healthy and according to plan.

We got to see each part in detail:

the belly

skull and parts of the brain

kidneys, stomach

heart and 4 chambers

umbilical cord and placenta (which is located where it should be)

arms

face

spine

the tech said everything looked absolutely beautiful and healthy… all I wanted to hear.

And then he said “You both keep referring to this baby as a ‘he’” and then zoomed in between the babies legs, from the bottom so you could see the two thigh bones

and unmistakable….

lady bits.

outfit

“That’s 100% a girl.”

jammies

Little nugget is a GIRL <3

I didn’t even make it to the car until I was crying my face off. We hugged in the parking lot for at least 5 minutes, me crying, and both of us letting it finally sink in. I was half-crying because everything looks healthy and so thankful for the reassurance, and half-crying because I’m so shocked and excited. I was just as excited for a boy, but to finally, really know, for SURE is pretty amazing.

Plus:

-dance classes

-tutus and

-sparkles 😀

She is going to have Tom wrapped around her little finger.

Thank goodness for good store exchange policies, right?

clothes

This little beanie is one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen.

beanie

So this means 4 things:

1) The tech who did the ultrasound at the other place probably shouldn’t have been “so positive” that it was a boy.

2) My acupuncturist actually was right! (along with everyone else in my family, excluding myself)

3) We ordered more gluten-free cupcakes, this time with pink frosting in the middle [most of the family already knows, but we did it for fun.. and because the cupcakes were incredible]

4) One of my favorite dreams happened around 2 years ago, and I still think about it often because it was so vivid. I’ve written about it before, but here’s an almondshell version of it:

I wake up to a little girl lightly brushing my face. “Mommy, wake up,” she says, “Dad is making pancakes!”. I open my eyes and see the most beautiful little girl- my daughter. [I remember every detail about her face, her blue jammies, and what the house looks like… which is scarily similar to what this house looks like] The smell of pancakes and bacon fills the air and I walk downstairs with her to see the my husband and older sister making pancakes and goofing around in the kitchen together.

When the dream first happened, I told Tom about it, because it was on my mind for a while. I knew I wanted a family so badly, but we weren’t in the time and place where it would be feasible.

And now, it’s actually coming true <3

    Congrats on your little lady!!!!

I have one of each and while I try not to play favorites there is just something incredibly special about having a little girl {and it’s not just the clothes}.

Oh my gosh!! I so thought you were having a girl. Good thing you hadn’t gotten a ton of boy stuff or done a very boyish nursery yet!

Wow! When you first announced the baby’s sex for some reason I was surprised. Even though I’ve only ever been a blog reader I was so sure you were having a girl. I dont know why. When I saw the title of this post my first thought was “oh they got it wrong it really is a girl!” then reading it- sure enough! So excited for you and Tom! can’t wait to see her on the blog! Health and happiness to you both 🙂

  14. M Miller on August 12, 2011 at 5:51 pm

Congrats Gina! I think I would hold on the the few baby boy things you already have just in case! So happy for you! And glad you found out now and not at delivery! I remember them telling us in child birth classes that the ultrasounds aren’t 100%! She had a previous student that bought all the items and decorations for having either a son or daughter (I forget which) and had the opposite at delivery! Now you need to start again on names!

  15. Christie on August 12, 2011 at 5:52 pm

congratulations!!! I had my daughter first, and I was so happy to have a little girl!!! 🙂 Boys are great too, and I was thrilled for my little man when he came along. But let’s face it….ballet and girl clothes? FUN first child stuff. 🙂 I’m sure you’re baby will be healthy and happy and beyond loved!!! 🙂

  16. Teri on August 12, 2011 at 5:53 pm

  17. Allyson M on August 12, 2011 at 5:57 pm

I’ve never commented before, but just HAD to when I read this post. The dream is so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. The simple things in life truly are the best. Two girls and a boy for me and I love all the little girl clothes! We didn’t find out what we were having with our 1st and I was shocked-shocked! when the doctor said ‘it’s a girl’ because everyone told me it was a boy. People would stop me on the street and in stores and say they were sure it was a boy. 🙂 Enjoy the buying the fun stuff for the little lady!

  18. Kate Z. on August 12, 2011 at 5:58 pm

I knew it!!! Congrats! A baby girl. What could be sweeter?

  19. Gavi @ Gavi Gets Going! on August 12, 2011 at 5:58 pm

Congratulations, Gina–what amazing, incredible news for you and Tom! 🙂 My fiance and I don’t plan on having kids for quite a while, but I’ve always thought about what it would feel like to have a daughter. I’ve heard many women say that they feel like they were born to be mothers. When I think about the roles I’ve played that have been most important and meaningful in my life, being a DAUGHTER is at the top of the list. While you will be so lucky to have your little girl, your daughter will be even luckier to have two amazing parents that are so excited, ready, and in love with her already! 🙂

omg so excited for you!!! how sweet!

  23. Lisa on August 12, 2011 at 6:10 pm

That’s totally what happened when I was pregnant with my daughter. Said a boy at 16 wks(90 percent sure) then at 32 wks said a girl! I didn’t believe anyone at that point; although I felt like she was a girl from the very beginning. I guess what they saw at 16 wks must have been the umbilical cord huh!!’ so happy for you two.

  24. kara on August 12, 2011 at 6:12 pm

gina!!! oh this is so sweet. so glad you are all happy and healthy. but i knew it was a girl!!! i was so surprised when you announced boy. you definitely need a little lady to help balance out all those guys over there!

  25. Jill on August 12, 2011 at 6:16 pm

Wow that is so exciting! You’re such a great role model, so it’s a perfect fit. And that “I love daddy” outfit is KILLING me. I would wear it right now.

  26. Kathy on August 12, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Wow! That is big news!! How fantastic. And I really loved the boy names you were playing around with so I’ll be excited to hear the little fitnessista’s name when she gets here. So sweet. Blessings on all three…err four (sorry Bella!) of you!!

  30. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on August 12, 2011 at 6:29 pm

Omg I am crying tears of joy for you, Gina. I knew it was a girl. I just KNEW. And what happened to you, with you having the wrong gender being told to you was one of my worst pregnancy fears! Some women feared the weight gain, the birth, the pain…no, not me. I feared being told one gender but it being the opposite. I went back MANY times just to be double, and triple 🙂 sure before I let myself believe I was *Really* having a girl.

Wow…congrats on basically feeling like your pregnancy (and life!) is totally new and different!!

Many blessings to you and Pilot and HER!!!!
    xoxo

sex*, not gender. Sorry to be nit picky, and not trying to be rude at all Averie (love your blog!), but as an anthropologist it’s one of my pet peeves. Sex is biological, and gender is culturally constructed. :]

  31. blossjoss on August 12, 2011 at 6:34 pm

    congrats!

  32. Erica on August 12, 2011 at 6:35 pm

aw this made me tear up!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!

  33. Raewyn on August 12, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Oh my holy almond butter!!! I KNEW IT! I KNEW you were having a girl, lol – when you’d posted a while back that it was a boy, I kept thinking, “Wow, I really thought it was a little Fitnessista…” And then it would just pop into my head again and again. Haha! A boy would have been amazing but I think it’s absolutely perfect that your firstborn is a little girl!!! 😀 You can Zumba and dance with her!! And wear Lululemon together. 😉

  34. Jessica @Baybaybites on August 12, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Omg gosh that’s crazy! Did you have a ton of boy stuff? CONGRATS!

  35. Heather on August 12, 2011 at 6:44 pm

Crazy. But if there is one thing I know…it’d that you’ll have the most beautiful little girl ever. Congrats!

  36. Jen @familyfoodfitnessandfun on August 12, 2011 at 6:46 pm

Wow….that is crazy! It’s unusual that the tech’s get the “boy” wrong…I mean, well…you know what I mean! Congrats on finding out you are having a girl. And that is very cool that you have dreamed about it 🙂

  37. Sara on August 12, 2011 at 6:52 pm

Little girls do actually rule the world. 🙂 That’s great. Better start educating yourself on all things Hello Kitty, My Little Pony and ..mm.. check out dressupgirl.net. It’s probably necessary to listen to a bit of Selena Gomez too. She’ll come out of the womb completely in touch with what’s cool in the girl world, that’s for sure.

  38. Kara on August 12, 2011 at 6:54 pm

holy guacamole!!!! a girl!! so unexpected and exciting. sparkles and tutus oh my!

  43. Lauren on August 12, 2011 at 7:13 pm

Oh my gosh! Glad u found out now and not after she came out! That was my biggest fear, every time we went to the doc I’d say “still a girl?” lol! I’m so happy for you, girls are the best.. Only based on my one child! Ha ha! Have fun, I went pink crazy when I found out! At 8.5 months, all my baby has worn is pink! Lol! So exciting!

The same exact thing happened to my step-brother and his wife! They were told a boy and then…just kidding it’s a girl! I honestly thought you were having a girl all along and was a little surprised to hear you were having a boy. Just by reading your blog, it seems like a little girl just fit you and the pilot. She is going to be BEAUTIFUL! 🙂
