2,4,6,8,10 Treadmill Workout

Whenever we have family or friends staying with us, it makes me feel like we’re on vacation, too. It’s nice to slooooooow down for a second, sometimes play tourists in our own city, and just enjoy being together.

Yesterday afternoon, we all went swimming:

Swimmer

(little fish was very busy eating a bagel chip, hence the lack of smiles)

and then 15 of us went out for dinner at G Grill.

Trev

(Trevor with his blazing fajita cauldron)

Even though we were a large party -with three high chairs- the service was awesome, the food was delicious, Liv got to dance to mariachis, and was very happy with the made-before-your-eyes salsa. During dinner, Livi and one of her cousins, seated in the high chair next to each other, would stop to kiss each other or hold hands in between bites. Basically, it was the cutest thing in the world.

Ggrill

With a belly full of Mexican food and everyone sleeping, I ventured out to the gym to get in a little before-bed cardio. It felt great to read the new O magazine and shake my legs out before calling it a night. I was wondering if I should post last night’s workout, because I’ve already done the “2,4,6,8,10” theme twice.

I believe that jokes are no longer funny after the second time you tell them. (If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I don’t always follow my own rule….. Anyway….) Is it the same thing with workouts? 😉

2 4 6 8 10 treadmill

The perfect mix of challenging and energizing — I was sweaty but not totally zonked at the end. Let me know if you give it a try!

This morning, we’re helping the fam move, and then maybe hitting up a movie later tonight. See ya later on the Family page with a project that’s near and dear to my heart.

xoxo

Gina

When was your last vacation? If you could go on a trip this very second, where was you choose? A little Tuesday daydreaming is always nice 😉

That looks like a great treadmill workout! I typically don’t go for the treadmill because I get so bored on it, but this looks like a great way to not hate the treadmill;)

  2. Laura on June 25, 2013 at 11:41 am

I went on a sweaty run for my steady state – it is hot and humid here today! It was a good run though, and I’m proud that I pushed through the humidity and didn’t give up!

  3. Marian on June 25, 2013 at 11:50 am

Can this be done on an elliptical as well?

  4. Nicole McCauley on June 25, 2013 at 11:53 am

I swapped Mon/Tues workouts, so yesterday I did an awesome elliptical steady state and an extra long (25 mins or so) stretch session. It felt great to take the time for it! I often forget how lovely it can be just to stretch and relax after a sweaty cardio session.

Today’s Workout #4 and HIIT were definitely a challenge, but it felt great to keep the momentum going. I’m always amazed what our bodies are capable of – especially when feeling tired!

Congrats to everyone during this last week. Keep up the great work 🙂

Aww I LOVE the picture of Liv in her sunglasses! What a diva ;).

Glad you got to get some cardio in, it almost always puts me in a good mood. I’ll be trying out the workout soon! I don’t usually like the dreadmill since I get bored easily, but yours seems like I’d be constantly changing things up!

Giving this one a try tomorrow! I’m sure I’ll love it, interval training is fun and makes the time go by quicker, don’t you think? 🙂

I am always on the hunt for new treadmill workouts once the weather gets too hot to run in. Thanks for posting, I’ll be giving it a try!

  8. Britt on June 25, 2013 at 12:00 pm

I did 20 min of yoga this morning for flexibility, and planning steady state tonight

    Awesome treadmill workout!

I would love to go to Hawaii right now! Ahhhh…day dreaming! 😉

Heading to a Pilates class this evening. 🙂

  11. Alexandra on June 25, 2013 at 12:06 pm

I went on a 20 minute run and then did 15 minutes of yoga/stretching before work this morning! I’ve been feeling fabulous and energized ever since 🙂

That’s why I walked instead of ran. Too full to run 🙂

    • caitlin on June 25, 2013 at 3:16 pm

THIS! hahah i was in amazement as I read and was going to exact the exact same thing 🙂

  13. Hayley @ Running on Pumpkin on June 25, 2013 at 12:12 pm

That is so cute about Livi and her cousin <3 If I could go on a vacation right now it would be to Hawaii definitely. Get me to a beach and hand me a pina colada please!

  14. Ashley V on June 25, 2013 at 12:13 pm

I did a 25 minute run (though my legs were hurting from yesterday’s lunges, so I definitely had to walk some) and then a 20 minute yoga session. I tend to hate flexibility because I’m not flexible by nature, and I tend to get bored, but I sure needed the stretching this morning!

  15. Allie on June 25, 2013 at 12:20 pm

Flexibility for me is yoga and a date with the foam roller…looking forward to it 🙂

  16. April on June 25, 2013 at 12:20 pm

I love Livi’s sun glasses, ADORBS! OMG, how in the world did do cardio AFTER Mexican food, whoa you are nuts girlfriend:)

Vaca RIGHT NOW would be sailing in the BVI’s!

  17. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on June 25, 2013 at 12:21 pm

My next vacation will be my honeymoon! Josh and I just booked our trip to Cancun! Livi is so cute, I love her little sunnies!

  18. Danica @ It's Progression on June 25, 2013 at 12:36 pm

If I could drop everything and go on vacation, I would definitely hop on a plane to Hawaii with my husband. It’s at the top of my travel bucket list!

  19. Kailey on June 25, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Can’t wait to try that workout! All of your G Grill posts make me want to live in Arizona, holy yum!

Tomorrow we’re leaving for a cruise to Alaska…although it’s not the tropical dream I’m craving right now, I’m excited. 🙂 Bonus: the ship’s lineup of fitness classes looks awesome.

    Have fun with the fam!

Is it bad that I can’t even remember my last vacation? Usually when I travel it’s for a purpose — go to a work conference, head out of town for a bridal shower, etc. A few of my friends just took off for Florida, and I am really regretting not buying the plane ticket. Feeling awfully jealous right now. 🙁

  21. FitBritt@MyOwnBalance on June 25, 2013 at 1:12 pm

My last real big vacation was to Hawaii for my wedding/honeymoon last year. But I try to make my life seem like a vacation, so even if it’s only for a three day weekend, my husband and I try to get away. We go skiing with my cousins at their ski house, we use flight and hotel points to head to the Florida keys for a long weekend in February, we drive my parents’ house in the summer to spend time at the beach on the weekends. These little trips here and there make me feel so incredibly relaxed!

If I could go anywhere right now, it would be Bora Bora or Napa Valley (aka adult Disney World).

  22. Amy on June 25, 2013 at 1:18 pm

I did the elliptical max cardio setting for my steady state. I work out at home and with a toddler, this is the easiest thing to fit in. Planning to get in some good stretching later today!

  23. Katie on June 25, 2013 at 1:38 pm

Gina, I just did the treadmill workout on my lunch break and it was great! Best treadmill workout I’ve done in a long time! Thanks for posting 🙂

  24. Kelly on June 25, 2013 at 1:40 pm

I love these types of treadmill workouts, I’ve been doing them a lot lately myself. I will definitely give this one a try!

I really like the 2 4 6 8 10 theme because it’s easy to memorize and not tote around a piece of paper or look back and forth at your phone!

  27. Amanda on June 25, 2013 at 2:13 pm

Cardio is done, stretching and an ab burner later today while the little ones nap (and if the naps don’t overlap I’ll finish up tonight). Last real vacation was a trip back to Malaysia a few years ago (our last hurrah before children). Hubby is Malay/Canadian and his family is split between Kuala Lumpur and Australia so we alternate between the two when we travel overseas. At times it doesn’t always feel like a vacation with all of the family craziness but on our last trip we snuck away to Cambodia for a few days just the two of us. I ended up with dengue and spent weeks recovering but getting to see Angkor Wat up close and personal was amazing. Now that I think about it, our last true vacation (sans family) was actually our honeymoon to Paris and Lisbon eight years ago. Crazy how time flies!

  28. lucie on June 25, 2013 at 2:16 pm

Goodness, that pic of Livi with the sunglasses is adorable 🙂
I think I would get sick when doing Cardio after a Mexican Dinner 🙂
I just came back from 15 days in New York, Boston and Cape Cod – it was absolutely marvelous!!! If I could go again this very second, it would be New York again or even better somewhere in California – San Diego.

  29. Jay on June 25, 2013 at 2:23 pm

Trying this one tonight! Needed a new treadmill workout, thanks!

  30. Emily on June 25, 2013 at 2:41 pm

    Last vacation? Too long ago!!

If I could go anywhere right now, it’d be the beach. It’s my happy place. Always has and always will be.
Or Europe… I’ve never been there. Any change of scenery, really, would be nice 🙂

  31. Allie on June 25, 2013 at 3:10 pm

Sounds like a fun dreadmill work out 🙂 Excited to try it 🙂

  32. char eats greens on June 25, 2013 at 3:37 pm

Wow, that workout for sure could get preeeetty tricky!! I seriously don’t know what speed I could hold for 10 mins at 10% incline…you’ve definitely sparked my interest 😉

  33. Ashley Figur on June 25, 2013 at 3:43 pm

My last vacation was our honeymoon back in September 🙂 We were in Miami for a couple of days and then off to St. Lucia in the Carribean Islands. Lots of fun, sun and just relaxing. I wish we were back there! It went too quick.

I think if I could pick a vacation right now, it would have to be somewhere like Playa or Cozumel, but the kid in me truly wants to go to Disney, LOL! Never been 😉

I think its great you get your workouts in later at night! I found that I slept and felt my best when I was doing that and it truly was the only time I had to fit it in or super early.

  34. Abby on June 25, 2013 at 4:10 pm

Love being a tourist where we live! There is so much to do. My hubby and I have even checked into a Fort Worth and Dallas hotels just to explore the cities!

Steady state was ROUGH today, not gonna lie. My hamstrings are so sore from #4 yesterday. But I made it. 🙂

For this workout did you run or walk at the incline? I guess either would work.

  35. mi-an dela cruz on June 25, 2013 at 4:29 pm

i went to cf and did steady state of 2 miles… been so hot here in NY! and loving it!!
i just got back from DR and would love to go maldives island~~!!

  36. Laura B on June 25, 2013 at 4:35 pm

I’m dreaming about our family vacation to France in a few months!

Did 45min steady state on the treadmill, plus a few minutes on abs, stretching and foam rolling, which was wonderful! My hamstrings and booty are so sore from yesterday! I wanted to get in extra cardio since I wasn’t able to fit in the full 30 min yesterday.

  37. Sarah @ Yogi in Action on June 25, 2013 at 5:03 pm

I love vacation! I’m always dreaming about my next trip. This summer’s been pretty unbelievable for me as far as trips. My last vacation was to China in May, and my next trip is to Costa Rica on Saturday for yoga teacher training! Practically counting down the hours 🙂

  38. Crystal@TheFastFitRunner on June 25, 2013 at 5:06 pm

Congrats on hitting the gym after Mexican food…..and that workout sounds relatively difficult!

  39. Nicole on June 25, 2013 at 6:11 pm

My butt is soooore from workout 4 yesterday – lovely!! I did 60 mins on the elliptical and plan to do a yoga youtube video tonight 🙂

  40. Kim on June 25, 2013 at 6:46 pm

Funny – I’m on a trip to TX right now (my boys & I while my Air Force pilot has his own trip).
My dream trip – always Hawaii – all-time favorite place ever!!!

  41. Christina R on June 25, 2013 at 7:32 pm

Steady state & flexibility felt needed today to help the soreness in my legs! I did the elliptical and a great yoga video I found on youtube!

  42. Jackie on June 25, 2013 at 8:05 pm

Last vacation was to Nashville, TN. If I could go anywhere right this second, a beach in Bora Bora would be nice. Or Tahiti.

  43. Meghan on June 25, 2013 at 8:36 pm

Looks like a great treadmill workout!

  44. Mer on June 25, 2013 at 9:12 pm

I’ll enjoy this workout when it gets cooler and on rainy days. Time to dust off the treadmill! Thanks!

  45. Naomi on June 25, 2013 at 9:37 pm

Steady state was on the elliptical this morning. That treadmill workout looks great!

  46. Cate on June 25, 2013 at 9:54 pm

I did WO#4 and HIIT for the first time this morning. I can report that my glutes, shoulders (Holding that upright row is a killer!), and abs are already sore, so I must have challenged my body in new ways. Getting out of bed and onto the elliptical or some steady state tomorrow morning could be a challenge. Thanks for the workout inspiration, Gina!

As for the vacation, I would love to see St. Petersburg, Russia in the summer.

The last vacay the hubby and I took was to Vegas to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, although I’m really dreaming about revisiting Hawaii. That was a super amazing trip 🙂 I did a spin workout for today’s SSU steady state and loved every minute of it!

  49. Mia on June 26, 2013 at 2:40 am

what speed were you doing this? 10 at 10 running?

No way! 10% with 3.8 speed

I just had to pop in to say that I had your Breakfast Cookie Dough Cereal for the first time today and it was beyond mind-blowing!! A serious morning-changer of a recipe! I’ve been a loyal reader for about 1 1/2 years now so I am embarrassed to say that it took me so long to try this famous recipe but I am officially hooked!! Thanks for helping me get my Wednesday off to a fabulous start!!
