36 weeks

and feeling… good.

(Random: the Pilot recently found a video on his old computer of my friend and I doing our pointe dance to that song. It was one of my faves)

Is there some kind of pre-labor euphoria that hits? If so, maybe that’s what’s going on. Even though my hips still hurt like the dickens and I’m not sleeping as well, I feel pretty great this week.

15 weeks:                                                                    26 weeks:

15weeks  26weeks

34 weeks:                                                                  36 weeks:

34 weeks 36 weeks

Thar she blows, my friends:

34 weeks

I’m kind of boring this week. Not too many changes –just excited to be full-term next week!- but here’s what’s been going on:

-I don’t expect my brain to come back anytime soon.. it’s been gone for so long. Tom was talking about all of the things we have to do this weekend to make sure we’re ready and I can’t remember 90% of them. Sticking out in my mind: installing the car seat and packing the suitcase.

-He’s officially on baby watch. I called him earlier to say hi, and didn’t leave a message. He called me back instantly.

“Are you ok?!”

“Yes, just calling to say hi and see how your day was going.”

“Ok good, just making sure!”

His boss was asking him about when we’re due, so until game day he’ll only be flying locally and will be available via radio if anything goes down.

-The baby bag you guys twisted my arm into getting (heh heh) just arrived as I started typing this.

I LOVE it.

bag

It’s large without being too big –bigger than most of my lulu bags- and has a changing pad + tons of compartments. I know I’ll get very good use out of it.

-Eats are pretty much the same, but right now I’m craving more bland and salty foods.

crackers

I’m still loving spicy, but it’s started to give me heartburn, which I’ve never experienced pre-pregnancy.

snacks

Seafood sounds absolutely horrendous to me, except for anchovies. I’m kind of obsessed with them. In front of the crackers in the pic above, I made a paste out of a can of anchovies, lemon juice, mayo, hot sauce, sea salt and garlic, and scooped it onto crackers. I also like them in pasta sauce

sauce

and plain, which I never thought would happen. The idea of little fish in a can always seemed so gross to me, but I guess don’t knock it until you try it 😉

Also, lots of trail mix

trail mix

(a chocolate chip in every bite)

chicken

grill

and yogurt, in addition to the usual fare.

Bonus: when little bro the cheffer makes gf cookies

cookies2

Some pregs crave ice cream… I’m more of a cookie/cake/brownie girl 🙂

-Sleep is hit or miss. Either I’m crashed out for the entire night, or will toss and turn uncomfortably. Last night, I tossed and turned, got up twice to go to the restroom, and then woke up again when I somehow ended up flat on my back and the baby’s entire foot was prodding out of my stomach. I think she was trying to wake me up and tell me to get back on my side… it worked. Then I laid there for a while rubbing her little foot, and she would kick back.

-Baby will be in her second dance show at work this week. I was in one shortly after I started teaching, and remember driving to the recital, feeling so gross and weird – I found out that week that I was pregnant. I’ll ask the girls if it’s cool to post a video of our dance- it’s a fun one 🙂

-Still sappy. I cry really easily, out of happiness, when I read or hear something sad, or for no reason at all. Yesterday I lost it while watching this video – I know what it’s like to see a little tail shake so hard you think it’s going to fall off. Last time Tom came home from deployment, Viesa jumped high enough to kiss him on the mouth.

dogs

-Total weight gained: 27 lbs. as of last Friday’s midwife appointment

-I have midwife appointments every week from now on. It’s kind of a pain because the office is far, and all they do is check your blood pressure, weigh you, and see if you have questions, but the fact that I get to hear the baby’s heartbeat makes it 100% worth the trip. They’re supposed to start internal exams next week, but told me if there are no signs of labor and I’m feeling good, we can skip it. Apparently it’s not the most fun thing in the world :/

Keep growing strong and healthy, little baby. Can’t wait to meet you <3

You look stunning! I can’t believe the baby is so big you can see its foot kick out of your stomach. That has got to be the coolest/craziest feeling! And I love that pet video, I definitely cried when I saw it too!

    You are gorgeous!
My Religion professor was (or still is that I know of) pregnant when she was teaching my class this semester and she experienced pregnancy hearing loss so we had to repeat everything we said a couple of times and she also frequently forgot things or gave out the wrong papers to some people.

  14. Kristen @ Chocolate Covered Kristen on December 6, 2011 at 6:48 pm

Lookin’ good, Mama! Love that video. Sent it to my fam. When my Dad came home from his last deployment our dog FLIPPED! He jumped on him then ran in circles and then jumped on him and about licked his face off. He had gotten really depressed when my Dad was gone (a full year) and had gone from red to white… within a few weeks his hair was auburn again. Crazy.

  15. Amanda @ Sistas of Strength on December 6, 2011 at 6:49 pm

Uhh yah I would go ahead and skip those internal exams as long as possible. I’ll leave it at that.

    • Fitnessista on December 6, 2011 at 7:39 pm

      ehhh. not excited :/

  16. Tara @ Sweat like a Pig on December 6, 2011 at 6:51 pm

That diaper bag is adorable! Also, I agree on skipping the internal exam. Not a pleasant thing. At all.

  20. Jacquelyn on December 6, 2011 at 7:26 pm

I’m so jealous that your preg body is better than my regular body!!!! You look amazing!

    • Anna on December 6, 2011 at 7:49 pm

looool I was just thinking the same thing! She’s 9 months pregnant and I would give anything for her ass and arms. All of her weight seems to have gone to her belly. I need to start doing some Zumba!

  21. Madeline (Food Fitness & Family) on December 6, 2011 at 7:27 pm

You make pregnancy look good! 🙂 All that working out is going to help your labor! It’s crazy to think that you’re almost full term! I feel like it has FLOWN by! Granted I started reading while I was pregnant and now I have a 2 month old 🙂 I just get so excited thinking about all the emotions you’re going to get to experience when you hold your sweet daughter for the first time. There isn’t any other feeling like it in the world. The love you feel is so great and so powerful it is impossible to put into words. Sending you lots of positive vibes!

You look amazing! Enjoy every one of those last moments pre-baby!

  24. Marguerite Miller on December 6, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Yes, be very careful with your phone calls now! It will send everyone into a panic! I still look at you and think “Boy”, LOL! But when you were first pregnant I immediately thought “Girl”! Enjoy these last few weeks of pregnancy! And rest whenever you can!

  25. Jessica on December 6, 2011 at 7:53 pm

Oh, the heartburn. I had never had it until I got pregnant and always thought my hubby was a baby when he complained of it. NOW I understand. It is like a steak knife right through the heart. It used to stop me dead in my tracks and wake me up at night. I was SO happy that is stopped immediately after I had each of my children!
You are SO cute in all your pics!

  26. Yelena on December 6, 2011 at 7:55 pm

You look great. I’m contemplating whether I should watch the pet video- not sure if I want to set off the hormonal waterworks today or not.

  27. Kate on December 6, 2011 at 8:00 pm

I just watched that video…. where are the tissues?! You look fantastic, enjoy the last couple of weeks before your wee one arrives 🙂

  28. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on December 6, 2011 at 8:03 pm

Aww that is so cute that the pilot was so worried! He’s gonna be such a great daddy! And I feel ya on the nutthins! Those things are BEAST!!!!!!!!!!! Try the pecan….to die for!!!!!

    • Fitnessista on December 7, 2011 at 12:20 am

      ohhh i will!

  29. Running Betty on December 6, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Chewing gum gets rid of heartburn. Make sure it does not have aspartame. Sometimes just the same chewing motion without gum helps too.
The “sappy” might never go away. My friend Doris and I are stuck with it! Me 15 yrs later, and her 27 yrs later!

  30. Ali on December 6, 2011 at 8:20 pm

You are so tiny, and I have no idea how you are carrying around that GIANT BABY BELLY! Amazing what the body is capable of!

  31. Sara on December 6, 2011 at 8:24 pm

What week did you find out you were preggers? And how did you stay sane through the scary first trimester phase? It’s taking all I have not to go crazy with worry!

    • Fitnessista on December 7, 2011 at 12:19 am

i was around 4 weeks along. i definitely worried a lot that the baby would be ok… just hang in there, be hopeful, find ways to keep yourself busy, and keep taking care of yourself.
      sending good vibes to you!

  32. Sara on December 6, 2011 at 8:28 pm

And remember to keep your phone with you at all times! My sister went downstairs in her double story house in early labour, then it really kicked in and she could not get back up the stairs to wake her hubby. Yelling was also impossible and probably wouldn’t have helped – it’s a swiss house, very thick walls. If she had not had her cellphone on her to call the house phone, she would have just had that baby right there in the lounge.

    • Sara on December 6, 2011 at 8:30 pm

Also, I will mention that she looked like you – ‘all belly’, and was back in her regular clothes in a month. At three months she was toooo skinny (giant hungry boy babies will do that to you) and had to make an effort to eat full fat lattes and chocolate. I feel you will have no worries regaining your figure. I’m also sure you won’t give it a second thought for months!

    • Fitnessista on December 7, 2011 at 12:18 am

wow, that’s a good tip! i don’t know what i would do if i were stuck upstairs/downstairs without a way to call someone.

  33. Mary on December 6, 2011 at 8:34 pm

    “Thar she blows”…too funny!

  34. Jessica on December 6, 2011 at 8:45 pm

Hey! I am 7 weeks pregnant and was hoping you’d answer a few questions for me. I have a TON of exhaustion and all day queasiness and am getting a little upset about how little I have been able to workout because of it. I have gotten in a couple cardio sessions, a couple weight sessions and a yoga session and that’s it. :/ Did you struggle much with sickness/exhaustion in the beginning weeks? How did it affect your workouts? When did you start feeling normal again? I am telling myself that a few weeks will not ruin all my muscle tone, but I am used to working out every other day/every couple of days.
    Thanks so much Gina!!

    • Fitnessista on December 7, 2011 at 12:17 am

      hey girl,
i definitely feel ya- i was exhausted for a lot of the first trimester. just go with what your body is telling you to do- i spent way more time napping than gymming. you’ll feel better in the second trimester and will get your energy back. if anything, just take a walk 🙂
      congrats to you!!

      • Jessica on December 7, 2011 at 10:57 am

Thanks for replying <3 And for the congrats.

  35. Dani @ RunFitMama on December 6, 2011 at 8:52 pm

You’re going to love the Stevie baby bag. I have a striped version- its so much cuter than traditional diaper bags.

    • Fitnessista on December 7, 2011 at 12:16 am

that’s awesome- i’m so glad there are stylish bag options out there!

  36. Jen on December 6, 2011 at 9:20 pm

I am so excited for you! I had a dream last night that I was having a girl, which is a bit scary because I’m not ready yet (lol), but your posts are so touching – it makes me look forward to the experience.

  37. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on December 6, 2011 at 9:22 pm

I want that bag just to have….it’s awesome! I dont have a baby anymore (gahhh…a kindergartner?! where did time go..seems like just yesterday I was debating over a pricey diaper bag wondering if it was worth it….) but even if you dont love the bag for a diaper bag, I’d gladly buy it off you as a regular bag. I LOVE it!

And the expression, ‘she’s all belly’. That’s you! What a cute bun in your oven 🙂

  38. Lauren on December 6, 2011 at 9:56 pm

Gorgeous belly!!!! My doc never did internal exams, said it wasn’t necessary! But I did have one when I asked for it, only because it was 2 days before my due date and I heard they can help you go not labor and it did! Had my baby that night!

  39. Laury @ thefitnessdish on December 6, 2011 at 10:19 pm

I am in love with that bag!!! So jealous I never saw that one when I picked mine!

Your belly is just more and more amazing every update! Husband on baby watch is the best. Michel was on MAJOR baby watch when my OB told us “be ready, any day now” when I was 37 weeks. Well, we were living on edge and wouldn’t go anywhere for like 4 weeks.

That’s nice your midwives said if all is well you can skip the internal. No, not necessarily “fun” but not horrible.

    I was a cookie gal too 😉

For reflux, i just ate small meals often. The more you eat in one sitting at this point, the worse it seemed to get. I was always eating haha. It’s really hormones though, as you know. I think I even gargled with a apple cider vinegar/water mix a few times and it helped. That’s if you can stand the smell and taste!

    • Fitnessista on December 7, 2011 at 12:15 am

ohhh good to know- thank you friend!

  40. Amy on December 6, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Skip the internal! I’m pretty sure it caused my water to break a few days later and baby was not wanting to come out! My home birth turned into a c-section! Just think of nature: no animal has another animal sticking it’s leg inside to see how dilated/effaced pregnant animal might be!!! Let nature take it’s course!

    • Fitnessista on December 7, 2011 at 12:14 am

thank you, i’ll definitely do that!

  41. Emily on December 6, 2011 at 10:45 pm

Um, holy cow. How could anyone NOT cry at that video???? Lol my pups go craaaaaazy when I get home from work every day, let alone if I had to leave them for several months. I can’t even imagine the amount of tail-wagging that would go on!

  42. Laura@mypurposefullife on December 6, 2011 at 11:09 pm

LOVE that video. It gave me chills and made me so happy. My squeeling and excitement distracted my boyfriend writing his final paper, but then he wanted to see too so I got to watch it again. 🙂 So glad your final trimester is going so well.

  43. Debbi on December 6, 2011 at 11:20 pm

I can’t believe that lululemon tank stretches that much (haha). You look great, enjoy every minute.

yes, thank goodness for stretchy fabrics! 🙂
      thank you, friend <3

  45. Emma on December 7, 2011 at 3:33 am

The Pilot is going to make the best daddy ever. He seems so sweet! You’ll both be amazing. You look absolutely gorgeous! Also, I’d love if you posted that video of you dancing to Michael Buble! 🙂

  46. Kim @ girlevolving on December 7, 2011 at 7:12 am

Internal checks weren’t as bad as everyone told me, or I didn’t think so. They’re not FUN, but they’re not bad either.

You look awesome! I hope we can see you dance!

  47. Ashley @ The North Carolina Cowgirl on December 7, 2011 at 7:37 am

You look so great for being that far along! I gained 85 lbs with my son!! I wasn’t nearly as active as you! You are an inspiration for Pregnant women, that is for sure! 🙂

  48. Nicole P on December 7, 2011 at 8:24 am

I remember when I was pregnant thinking I should just live in the bathroom- having to pee every 5 mins.
That diaper bag is super cute 🙂

  49. Karen on December 7, 2011 at 9:31 am

That video with the dogs is soo cute!! I am going on my 37th week and had my first internal last Friday. I am already 1cm dilated & 50% effaced so hoping the little one makes his/her arrival before Christmas (I am due January 1st). Good luck with everything and you look amazing.

  50. Alycia on December 7, 2011 at 10:56 am

You look fantastic, and that bag is awesome! Wonder if I could get away with using it as my everyday bag? 😉
