Sushi Snafu

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday!!! Hope you’re rested and refreshed 😀

Yesterday was a crazy and productive day! I managed to get everything on the to-do list done… except for yoga 🙁 I can’t believe I didn’t practice at all last week- I miss it!

We spent a few hours at Bizzle (aka Starbucks) getting some work done.

I snacked on a Larabar:

And sipped on some green ginger tea while I typed my face off.

Please excuse the hair, even though it is clearly the hair of productivity 😉

😉

We stopped at Publix to get some sushi to munch on the way to our neighbors 60th wedding anniversary party, and picked up some squid salad to share.

squid

And I got the brown rice spicy smoked salmon roll.

sushi

When I took a bite of the calamari, something tasted off. I moved the squid around to see that the center was entirely frozen. Good thing we were still in the parking lot –the pilot was putting the address into the GPS while I was opening our food- and I ran back inside to get a refund. That should have been a clue. I ate the salmon roll –all of it- because I was starving and was left with a horrible taste in my mouth when I was finished. I didn’t get sick or anything, but I’m won’t be eating their sushi for a long time after that one. Blech!

The anniversary party was adorable –all of the men wanted to talk planes and wars with the pilot- and then we came home to take down the tree 🙁

We bubble-wrapped all of the ornaments…. we have a ton!

ornaments

(The pilot = seksi)

A nekkid tree:

naked tree

It was so sad to see it without ornaments, and we decided that the space in the wall needed a little sumthin’ sumthin’ when everything was put away.

A new 9ft decorative tree, perhaps??

tree (2)

That’s its new home after switching it with another decorative tree we have. Our house is like a jungle 😉

I made some chili cheese raw vegan crackers last night and put them into the dehydrator:

I can’t wait to test them out today! If they come out like I think they will, I’ll post the recipe tomorrow 😀

We’re off to get the pilot new running shoes and go on an 8-miler. See ya tonight!

xoxo,

G

Something to do: Get those vision boards ready! I would love to see a pic of what you’d like to accomplish in the New Year 😀 I’ll post mine tomorrow!

I have a tree like that! People say we live in a jungle house lol. I’ve always been a little sketched out by grocery store food 😕

  2. Jocelyn on January 3, 2010 at 9:46 am

ewwww…sounds like you got some bad food 🙁 that really sucks! Hopefully you got your money back though! 🙂 Happy SUnday!

Ugh, sometimes grocery store sushi is just icky 🙁 Love the new decorative tree 🙂

  4. Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen on January 3, 2010 at 9:56 am

i can’t eat grocery store sushi after a similar experience…whole foods hasn’t been horrible but i’m still pretty wary! those crackers, though…hubba hubba!

  5. Karen on January 3, 2010 at 10:00 am

I’m with the others on the grocery sushi – can be okay but sometimes not and I have powered through some that was a little funny only to have the “ick” taste in my mouth that you describe. I usually stick to the California roll because you should be able to guess the freshness (or not) based upon how the avocado is lookin! LOL

Those sound yummyyyy! Calamari salad? Mmmm.

  7. Jenny on January 3, 2010 at 10:05 am

I’m working on my vision board today!!

Sorry about that bad sushi–honestly, I’m always too wary of grocery store/pre-made sushi to buy it! I’ll only eat it ordered from a restaurant! Hope it didn’t ruin your taste for sushi in general.

  8. Babycakes on January 3, 2010 at 10:17 am

I LOVE the idea of vision boards. I did one once a long time ago and it was quite inspirational. I should do another! I also love how you replaced your Christmas tree with another tree. We still have a gaping hole where our tree used to be and it’s making me sad. Happy Sunday to you and The Pilot 🙂

  9. Roselyn on January 3, 2010 at 10:25 am

I’ve had Publix sushi several times and have not been happy with it. 🙁 Love the grocery store, not a bog fan of the sushi.

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2010 at 10:35 am

when we get it, its usually wonderful! but yesterday was DISGUSTING

  10. Jenna on January 3, 2010 at 10:32 am

    Chili cheese cookies look great!!

  11. Alicia on January 3, 2010 at 10:34 am

I always want to buy sushi in the prepared food sections of grocery stores, but I’m nervous that I would have the exact experience you did. I hate having an upset stomach, let alone a bad meal! 🙂

  12. Shelby on January 3, 2010 at 10:36 am

Those crackers sound amazing! Can’t wait for the recipe!

  13. Heather on January 3, 2010 at 10:43 am

OMG! Chili cheese crackers? I think i have gone to heaven. hehe

  14. Lisa on January 3, 2010 at 10:47 am

Yea, usually Publix sushi is good b/c they have a guy right there making it. I usually check the dates and the avacado too.

  15. Katie on January 3, 2010 at 10:47 am

Mmm, looking forward to that cracker recipe! 🙂

  16. mmclaughlin on January 3, 2010 at 11:16 am

I used to eat Publix sushi all the time – I’d go pick it up on my lunch break from work – and then I got some bad sushi. I ended up getting sick for a couple of days, and haven’t eaten their sushi since. I still eat/LOVE sushi in general, I just only eat it freshly made now.

  17. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on January 3, 2010 at 11:29 am

I can’t wait to see the recipe for the crackers girl! Sounds great! 🙂

  18. Sara on January 3, 2010 at 11:38 am

Ughhh I’m sorry about the sushi letdown :(!
Those chilli cheese vegan crackers sound delishhhhh!

  19. Fallon on January 3, 2010 at 11:42 am

I don’t have a dehydrator, but is it possible to make your raw crackers in an oven?

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2010 at 11:48 am

yes, of course! you’ll just want to put the oven on the lowest temp and leave the door ajar

  20. Jessica (fit and clean) on January 3, 2010 at 11:51 am

I usually try to stay away from the Publix sushi because the ingredients said it had corn syrup in it. But I went to a different Publix, where they had people making it out on the floor, and watched them make it up and it was fantastic (and I got what I wanted in it, too!) Ugh. sorry about your experience. I hate when that stuff happens! And just to say, you certainly did NOT have hair that resembled Albert Eistein, LOL! You crack me up!!

  21. Rosemary on January 3, 2010 at 11:54 am

I’ve been wondering what Bizzle was – mystery solved! LOL.
    Love your blog. 😀

  22. Amelia on January 3, 2010 at 12:18 pm

I love this idea of vision boards. I’ll have to think about what might go on mine.
Can’t wait for that cracker recipe. Anything with the words chili cheese has to be good. 😉

  23. Elise on January 3, 2010 at 12:19 pm

Oh those crackers sound good! I hope they turn out so we get the recipe! =)

  24. Morgan on January 3, 2010 at 12:21 pm

I love vision boards! I’m going to do this on my blog this week as well. it helps me really focus on my goals and get them accomplished!

  25. Ranika on January 3, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Do you purchase your house plants in physical stores, or do you order them online?

  26. Susan on January 3, 2010 at 1:26 pm

Sounds like the 60th wedding anniversary went well, so lovely to be married for someone for so long. I’m liking the way you put the decorations away, I do have a tendency to just fire the decorations into a box, not good!! As for the date, it was terrible, so bad you got to laugh!! Have a great day.

  27. Tara on January 3, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Hurray for getting everything done! Hopefully you will have a lot of yoga time this week! =]
ick sorry to hear the sushi was no good,I’ve never been one to trust supermarket sushi.
Love the tree that replaces the xmas tree, great way to fill the space!!! Have a great start to your week! <3 <3

  28. Anna on January 3, 2010 at 2:25 pm

How upsetting! Brown rice salmon rolls are so good! And it even looked so good! My personal favorite is from whole foods 🙂 I’ve heard trader joe’s has decent sushi as well. Better luck next time!

  29. Stephanie on January 3, 2010 at 4:05 pm

I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your blog. I don’t think I have ever commented before and that is just wrong. LOL. I love your idea of making a vision board. What a wonderful idea.

    • Fitnessista on January 3, 2010 at 5:54 pm

      hey stephanie,
thanks so much for saying hi! 😀
you should totally make a vision board, too- i’d love to see it!
      have a great night <3

  30. Leah on January 3, 2010 at 4:53 pm

I used to get grocery store sushi all the time, but for some reason I just cant eat it anymore.

I HATE taking Christmas decorations down. It always just seems so sad to see them get packed up again for another year.

  31. chrysta on January 3, 2010 at 4:55 pm

oh bummer! Sorry the food was a bust. I hate when that happens! I love sushi too=) Hope you get a better batch somewhere else then! We are taking our tree down too today. Sssoo sad! It makes our living room look so empty now. I love that big huge tree that you moved in. Looks awesome. Anyways have a wonderful day girl!

  32. Paige @ Running Around Normal on January 3, 2010 at 5:58 pm

Aww, sorry about the sushi mishap. Blech!
We did the same thing as you guys did with the tree. Except we had no luck at Hobby Lobby. We had to go the ebay route.

Can’t wait to see how the crackers turn out!

  33. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 3, 2010 at 6:19 pm

Thank GOD you didnt get sick girl. I got sick once from grocery store sushi and it was really horrible and yikes, I am sooo glad you’re fine!!

The chili cheese raw vegan crackers look amazing…my guesses are chili powder, cayenne, nooch, flax seeds, red pepper…and can’t wait to hear the rest….seriously, I need to get more crackers into the dehyd while it’s still chilly out and running the hot box for 10 hours is no problemo 🙂

  34. Kristie on January 3, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Yikes, too bad about the grocery store sushi being a little sketch. Glad you didn’t get sick though!
Taking the tree down is so sad isn’t it? We just did that this weekend too. The living room loses a bit of it’s coze 🙁

Loving the vision board idea. I just might have to make one!

  35. Nicci@NiftyEats on January 3, 2010 at 8:58 pm

I think I need to make a vision board and put it up in my exercise room. I made the mistake of buying smoke salmon rolls on Friday and I did not like it either 🙁 Next time I must be careful and read the label.

  36. Carolyn on January 4, 2010 at 3:15 pm

Bad sushi does NOT sound good. 🙁 That’s why I tend to avoid the grocery store stuff. Expensive and not worth it.

  37. Hoshina Utau on February 18, 2010 at 6:51 pm

I’m not supposed to have grocery store sushi anymore. Supposedly a whole lot of people got sick from it and now certain people around me are paranoid and won’t let me set foot near the sushi counter when I’ve been craving sushi for about a month now.
