Puppy Yogini

Hey guys 🙂 Happy Saturday! How’s your day been so far?? Mine has been glorious, complete with an Insanity workout (today was Plyo) and a facial. Mmmm.

Recovery drink:

cocoberry

A Cocoberry Shake with:

-almond milk

-organic mixed berries

-1 T raw cacao

-1/2 T maca

-1 T hemp seeds

-1/4 t xantham gum (which thickened it nicely since I was out of bananners)

-vanilla

-1 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior

Perfection 😀

This morning’s Insanity workout was really tough—my legs felt like lead since it was our 6th straight day doing the workouts. Tomorrow is our off day and I’m pretty stoked about it. While my body is tired from this week, I feel *really* good 😀

Since I was already schweaty from Shaun T.’s booty-kicking, I figured I’d try out the new Shiva Rea DVD that the company sent me. I LOVED her last one and thought it would be nice to do some stretching and foam rolling after an *insane* week of workouts.

shiva rea

Like Daily Energy, “Yogini” has a customizable yoga matrix, so you can set up your own class.

matrix

Since I was taking it easy, I selected the Healing Meditation, Flow of Beauty and Savasana.

Um, I lasted about 5 minutes.

Wow.

Ok, I’ve said before that Shiva Rea is a little nutty. This DVD was a little too “out there”, even for me and I have a very open mind. I had no prob snaking my spine around and stretching and rolling around.. but once she got into “self massage” is when I called it quits. I left the DVD running and foam rolled instead.

The only one actually doing yoga was Bella:

bella

She is a very talented yogini. She’s great at begforfoodasana and cuddllebugasana. 😉

bella (2)

I decided that Shiav’s new DVD prob isn’t for me, but will definitely try or play through the other matrix options to see if I like them better.

I’m loving the new yoga room in the casa ever since I moved all of the furniture out last week. We have a lot of room to do our AM Insanity seshes and I don’t have to worry about whacking into the bed during yoga 🙂

guest room

All that’s in there is a TV, stereo, desk, spare laptop and printer, DVD player, space heater and Buddha head 😀

Snack:

Egg Puff + Millet covered in Texas Pete

millet and egg

millet and egg (2)

I’m gonna take the puppers out and then head to Bizzle to get some computer work done. I’m always more productive when I”m out of the casa.

Have a wonderful day and I’ll see you tomorrow <3

xoxo

I’ve only ever had millet bread as a sweet concoction….never salty. I think it tastes like pound cake so I like it sweeeeeet. I should try a savory version one day though!

The pup has never looked cuter!! And I’m the same way about getting work done out of the house. I am on my couch now and that is why I am commenting on your blog while my my ppt presentation is currently minimized 🙂

Question have you ever tried to make anything with millet flour? I bought some and have made some pizza dough with it mixed in with other flours but don’t know what else to do with it! Hope you have a productive day!

    • Fitnessista on April 17, 2010 at 2:44 pm

  6. Catherine on April 17, 2010 at 2:38 pm

Aw sorry to hear the DVD was a bust… was it just more the psychological side of yoga? I’m trying to find a good relaxation yoga dvd because I need to seriously chillax my mind after work sometimes!!

Bella is quite the adorable yogi! My little kitty is a huuge fan of savasana and can be found deepening his practice all over my bed and couch 😉

    • Fitnessista on April 17, 2010 at 2:53 pm

yes.. i was looking for a cool down, relax sesh today but it was just a little out there for me. her other dvd has some good mellow stuff on there, too

  7. Fallon on April 17, 2010 at 2:39 pm

I was at the gym doing cardio today and I glimpsed at the TV’s above me. One of them had the infomercial for the Insanity workouts.. umm WOW! LOL. They are pretty intense and a lot of movement. I give you major props for keeping up with those workouts! Definitely a butt kicker.

My cats have done P90X and some yoga dvd’s with me too!! 🙂 I get lots more work done out of the house too.

i wish i had an extra room here, i wouldn’t mind starting yoga, but it just seems to inconvienient in the living room in the midst of everything. we don’t have any place to “get away”. I can’t wait to buy a house and get out of an apartment!

So when you plannin out the new series of workouts? just curious!

  10. Kristina on April 17, 2010 at 2:46 pm

I call Basil (my dachshund) a yoga dog!! he is ALWAYS stretching his body and doing his “yoga poses”.

your pups are SO cute. 🙂

  11. Kilee on April 17, 2010 at 3:07 pm

Great idea for the yoga room! I know what you mean about working at Starbucks. Some of my best work happens there! Have a great weekend!

  12. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on April 17, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Wow, bella is fantastic at downward dog 😉

I love Shiva, too bad this one was a little too weird. Maybe it won’t all be that bad??

Love the idea of a yoga room. Maybe one day the boyf will let me have one. Currently we only have ONE room. Altogether. ha.

  13. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on April 17, 2010 at 3:50 pm

    Bella is so gorgeous!

I wish I had more room in my apartment for yoga! Yoga is currently done in the 4 foot space between my desk and my bed 🙁

  14. Mama Pea on April 17, 2010 at 4:10 pm

I don’t have that Shiva DVD but I have others…and yes, while wonderful, she is completely out there. All my giggling kept screwing up my poses.

  16. Katherine on April 17, 2010 at 4:33 pm

Does shiva rea have a good beginners dvd?

    • Fitnessista on April 17, 2010 at 5:43 pm

i’m not sure- the other one i tried was a little more advanced. for awesome beginner stuff, check out yogadownload.com – the 20 minute podcasts and videos are free

I was just thinking how cute your yoga mat is! I need a new one. Next time I go to Target, I know what I’m buying..

  18. Ellen on April 17, 2010 at 5:30 pm

I’m so jealous of your yoga room! The DVD sounds interesting. Have you ever tried Physique57? It’s a really good workout…just the perfect balance of strengthening and lengthening. It does a lot of booty work, which I like 🙂 The instructor is a bit nutty too. She says things like, “Now I KNOW you wanna get into those skinny jeans…UH HUH!” throughout the vid. It’s actually pretty funny.

I love Shiva Rea’s yoga – I’ve got a few of her videos. You have the cutest yoga mat – and doggies!

haha! she said thank you 🙂

  23. Samantha on April 17, 2010 at 11:34 pm

I like Shiva but not sure I want to self massage. 😉 It’d be so nice to have a yoga room. Right now mine is my den, and I have a half working space heater my instructor gave me because, gee, for some reason you can’t find heaters on Guam?!

Question for you about macaroons: I know yours are super secret and highly coveted. I’ve been using the recipe from Everyday Raw with my own tweaks (I make them super food with goji berries, chia seeds, and maca whenever it arrives!). However I often find that I have an excess of bananas at my house. Do you think mashed bananas would work in a raw recipe subbed in for some of the agave? I’d like to try some but my ingredients are much pricier than even buying the in the states so I’m fearful of wasting a bunch of supplies!

    • Fitnessista on April 18, 2010 at 9:59 am

      hey samantha,
i’m not sure if that would work… the bananas might not dehydrate all the way if you add them in. what i would do is slice the bananas, dehydrate them, then chop them in the food processor and add them in. then i’d do a smaller ratio of nuts and coconut. let me know how it works out!!

      • Samantha on April 18, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Thanks, will try that! Just trying to find ways to cut down on the sugars as my tummy isn’t a fan. 🙂

  24. Amber on April 18, 2010 at 12:31 pm

Hey Gina, two really great and challenging power yoga dvds I own are Bryan Kests power yoga: Energize, Tone, Sweat (3 diff options on one dvd each is about 50 minutes), and also Mark Blanchard: progressive power yoga (which is a set of 3 diff dvds each 90 min). I’ve wasted so much money on power yoga dvds only to find that they merely break a sweat however these two are ones that I continue to go back to when I don’t actually have time to go to a class because they are very challenging for home dvds. I really recommend you check them out if you’re in the market for a new yoga dvd, you can find them on amazon for pretty cheap!

  25. Lori on April 18, 2010 at 3:17 pm

Hey Gina, have you tried the Tracy Anderson Method dvds before? She has an interesting philosophy and I just wondered what you thought of her. She’s big into the accessory musles and is known for her training with Gwyneth Paltrow, Shakira, and (previously) Madonna. She also does a lot of dance cardio that you might like.
Ok, so I just have to ask: what did the “self-massage” include?
Thanks for sharing the review 🙂 I look forward to hearing more if you give it another try.

    • Fitnessista on April 18, 2010 at 3:44 pm

      hey lori,
no i haven’t but i’ve heard a lot of great things about it. i’ve looked at her dvds on amazon quite a few times, maybe it’s time to give it a whirl.
it seriously involved massaging various parts of your body. all parts. including your “wonderful buttocks”. that’s when i was like.. umm, not so much. haha
i’ll be giving it another try for sure, but i’ll probably skip the intro 😉

  26. sarah on April 18, 2010 at 11:35 pm

Your dog is so cute! I love the pics on the yoga mat. The smoothie looks good too!

  27. kate on April 18, 2010 at 11:36 pm

My dogs roll around my mat and wont leave me alone when I try to do some yoga at home. Did I mention they jump up and try to lick my face?! Ahh!

  28. The Pilot on April 19, 2010 at 1:48 am

Ha, I’m a little ashamed to admit that I laughed at the “self massage” but that’s pretty funny. We should get you some pics or plants for the workout room. Bell’s eyes are looking great. Love you!

  29. Emily on April 19, 2010 at 8:35 am

Self massage is more often associated with Kundalini Yoga…It’s certainly more mental + physical + spiritual… When I was led through self massage the first time, it struck me a odd or different too. If you just let go of what’s ‘weird’ vs. what’s ‘normal’it’s a really relaxing and beneficial exercise. But “beautiful buttocks?”….hmmm, ok yeah, that’s cringe worthy 🙂
