A Day

Hi friends 😀 Hope you’ve had a lovely afternoon. So glad you liked the circuit workout and it was fun to see comments from the from-Ireland Kerrygold lovers <3

It has been “a day” over here.

latte

Latte partially saved it.

[A decaf rice milk 1-pump vanilla latte to be exact]

latte (2)

I had a lovely time at my nana’s birthday lunch, but had to spend some of it on the phone with our bank because someone in North Carolina had made a counterfeit card linked to my card number and had gone on a $1000 shopping spree by the time they froze my card. :/

It was declined at the restaurant for a $6 gift shop purchase, and when I called the bank to see what was up –I knew we had at least $6 in our account- they let me know of the fraudulent activity and that they’d be sending me a new card. Thank goodness we’re not liable for any of the bogus charges, but I definitely feel violated and have no debit card to use in the meantime. Thank goodness the Pilot’s still works.

For lunch, I ordered the Greek salad with goat cheese instead of feta + tofu.

salad

I usually roll with the blackened salmon, but Blue Willow has AMAZING grilled tofu and I was in the mood.

+ a bite of this glorious funfetti Bundt cake

cake

The next 24 hours are going to be insane because we’re supposed to sign papers for our house, and the only time I could do it was during my lunch break tomorrow and I was booked for an HR appointment –and just found out about it today- that I called to reschedule and can’t. Still haven’t figured that one out yet…

What I’m thankful for:

-the fact that I woke up an hour early to practice yoga and meditate before starting the day

-none of this will matter a week from now and in the grand scheme of things, it really isn’t a big deal.

Off to do house-related craziness but promise to be back later tonight with a fun family post.

xoxo

Gina

What a crappy thing for someone to do – SO scary that people can do that! But yayyyyy for signing house papers! And funfetti makes everything better.

  4. Allison @ Food for Healing on July 19, 2011 at 7:04 pm

oh that sucks that someone got a hold of your card number. tomorrow is a new day, and so is the next!
that greek salad looks so greekin’ good (was gonna right freakin’, but thought greekin’ was more suitable lol)

  5. Holly @ The Runny Egg on July 19, 2011 at 7:05 pm

Yuck – fraudulent charges stink! I’ve had that happen before and the person using my card # decided to buy loads and loads of porn online. How nice.

Good luck getting the house stuff done — you are so right, next week this will not matter!

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2011 at 7:08 pm

      lovely. wow.

Ugh that is such a pain! I had that happened to me and it’s beyond annoying (and scary!) Whomever got a hold of my number charged $700 to the company that created “Farmville”. Are you kidding me??

I used to love Blue Willow when I lived in Tucson… especially for breakfast!

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2011 at 7:14 pm

      their breakfast is amazing 🙂

    Hey Gina,
Congrats on staying positive through all of this and really embracing what you can take charge of. I am sorry abt the whole credit card issue. Good luck through all of this craziness, it will be amazing on the other side 😉

I’m sorry about the debit card fraud 🙁 Just a reminder of how many crazy people there are out there!

That funfetti bundt cake looks great! I’m sure that made you feel a tad bit better 😀

  13. Lindsey on July 19, 2011 at 7:23 pm

what a pain! that happened to us….but unfortunately it was to the tune of 14k in just a few days time. it was with a card that was an emergency only card for us, so we didn’t realize it until the bank called. scary stuff!
hope you get the HR/house signing stuff figured out!

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2011 at 7:25 pm

      so crazy!

  14. MMiller on July 19, 2011 at 7:25 pm

That is scary! I used to work in banking! It happens much more than you would think! I check my account online every day!

  15. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on July 19, 2011 at 7:25 pm

Oh, no! So sorry that happened to you, but I’m glad you aren’t liable. That’s so scary, and all too common. They likely extracted it from a database, not something that you did wrong.

That salad looks delish! Where do you get lattes with rice milk? That sounds fabulous.

  16. Caitlin on July 19, 2011 at 7:26 pm

Fuck! How did they discover that I swiped your card and went on a shopping spree??

    • Fitnessista on July 19, 2011 at 7:30 pm

as soon as they said “north carolina”, i knew it was you. i know you love your sam’s club and ruby tuesdays, hahah

i might have pulled out a fistful of hair today. a little stressed.

  19. Heather on July 19, 2011 at 7:32 pm

I’m sorry to hear about the debit card fraud. That happened to me a few days ago- got my credit card statement and there were charges of $2000 on there that I didn’t make. The sad part 1) I never got a phone call regarding the charges 2) I have to pay for them, and then will be reimbursed once the fraud investigation is complete. Boo.

  20. Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! on July 19, 2011 at 7:41 pm

Happy Birthday Nana! I’m so sorry to hear about your debit card, that is really scary! Your salad looks absolutely delicious! I hope everything works out with the house/HR appointment. I will be sending positive thoughts your way!

  21. Maria on July 19, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Oye!! Luckily, everything got sorted out with the bank. That can be scary business. I haven’t had funfetti cake in forever! Looks delish 🙂

  22. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 19, 2011 at 8:01 pm

Girl you’re right, none of it will matter in a week but right now your life is sucking. Big time.

    So sorry!

House signing and real estate stuff is insanely stressful even when it goes smoothly.
As are HR meetings for work.

Throw into it the credit card fraudulent activity…and you’re a hot mess. I am so sorry!

Scott has had his debit card jacked MANY times. And sadly, he didn’t catch the activitiy until 32 days had passed and his bank (ironically based out of SC) did not stand by him and we were out. A pretty big! sum of money.

I am glad you guys are covered and not responsible for the charges.

    HANG IN THERE!!! 🙂

  23. Danielle on July 19, 2011 at 8:02 pm

I think more yoga and meditation is in order to soothe all the stress!

Last time I was at Blue Willow I saw a waitress bringing plates to a different table and I had to stop the her and ask what one of the plates was. It was their tofu stir fry! It made me quite sad that I hadn’t seen it before we ordered. Oh well, there’s always next time 🙂

  24. cathy on July 19, 2011 at 8:04 pm

just what you *need * with your house dealings going on, too! boy, oh, boy…
“-none of this will matter a week from now and in the grand scheme of things, it really isn’t a big deal.” – > you are so right. it’s a PITA, but this too shall pass…
and at least you had celebration time with your nana today!

  25. Amber L on July 19, 2011 at 8:08 pm

oh no! My mom had her identity stolen a few years ago. They spent over 20k and opened sooo many credit cards in her name – jerks! Luckily it has all been straightened out.

Good luck with everything this weekend!

p.s. everytime I come to your page I have to giggle, because I always think the picture at the top looks like Bella is about to feast on a huge salad beast! hehehe.

  26. Cait @ Cait hates Cake on July 19, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Sorry about the debit card. How infuriating! The only time I had my card stolen was when I was mugged a few years ago here in Chicago. Before I was able to cancel the card, he went to a couple 7-11s and bought Cheetos and candy…ridiculous!!

  27. jen on July 19, 2011 at 8:23 pm

someone took out a 60k house loan under my moms ss#, she got luckey that it did not screw up her credit and only found out when she was buying our 2nd home. Some did this with my debit card too and I didnt find out till I was paying for having repairs done to my car, they would not let me leave with my car till I payed and I was young and had no credit cards yet, luckey they let my mom pay them over the phone with her credit card. Its never fun but at least there are good banks that will take care of things when it happens and you will get your money back.

  28. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on July 19, 2011 at 8:24 pm

It’s crazy how easy it is to still people’s credit info and stuff. My wallet got stolen in a starbucks in NYC and literally 10 minutes after it must’ve happened I got a call from Wachovia about the fraudulent activity. The person had already racked up over $500. In 10 minutes! Thankfully the banks are pretty good about reversing all that stuff. Glad you got your situation taken care of!

  29. Ginny on July 19, 2011 at 8:34 pm

  30. Shayla @ The Good Life on July 19, 2011 at 8:34 pm

  31. Lisa on July 19, 2011 at 8:39 pm

Somebody stole my purse a few years ago but only managed to fill up their tank. B of A gave me a temp debit card that day. Still a pain. Sorry for your aggravation today. Basically house closings are just sign here, here, x 15 times. Shake hands gimme the keys!

I haven’t had Funfetti in years, oh how I miss it!!! We used to bake it all the time in middle-school whenever it was someones birthday in class. Brings back so many great memories!

  33. Donna Porter on July 19, 2011 at 8:56 pm

Idenity theft is HUGE in military families. It seems to be happening so much more than it use to. I’m sorry this has happened to you and thankfully you caught it in time!!

    • Fitnessista on July 20, 2011 at 1:25 am

why do you think that is?? i noticed that too and it’s really strange

      • Donna Porter on July 20, 2011 at 1:28 pm

I think there are a few reasons. Most military members are responsible with their money which means that there is something in the checkbook and thieves know this; another reason I have been told is because military members are so “mobile” and it makes it easier for those to steal their ID because the bank/credit card company won’t put a red flag on it since we do move and travel often so charges can be sporatic and at different locations.

I have a friend who had a similar thing happen, except the lady that stole her ID also created a fake military ID. $10,000 later my friend and the police finally figured it out when the lady tried to enter a military installation. The sad thing is these thieves are so smart and IF only they would use their brains for something good…our country would be so different!

I am glad you figured it out before it went too far and ruined your credit. This is a reminder for everyone to check your accounts regularly because it could happen to you too!!

  34. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on July 19, 2011 at 8:59 pm

That funfetti bundt is awesome!! What a fun idea! And bundt cakes always remind me of the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding.. have you ever seen it? Hilarious!

    • Fitnessista on July 20, 2011 at 1:24 am

      “it’s a bundt cake”
      “a bunk?”
      “no, a BUNDT”
      “bunk?”

      hahaha

  42. Katy @ RunKatyRun on July 20, 2011 at 2:27 am

That’s absolutely awful! I’m only 21, but the same thing happened has with my debit card…twice. The first time I was about 16 or 17 and someone in Italy somehow got a hold of my information. The second time was roughly 2 years ago and it was somewhere in the midwest. It definitely makes you feel violated and waiting for the new card is the worst!

  43. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on July 20, 2011 at 3:34 am

I’m so sorry that happened to you, Gina, I know it can feel very violating…the same thing happened to me a few weeks back, someone frauded my debit card and bought a bunch of stuff, so I was without a card for a week too. Grrr! Evil people, eh? Get your own money! 😛 Glad you have lots of things to be thankful for today too….counting your blessings always works when there’s a spanner thrown into the works! 🙂 xyx

Sorry to hear about the card fiasco but glad it’s gotten sorted and no liability re: spending spree. Thank you for the last bit “none of this will matter in a week or so” – i finally got a job again but it hasn’t been a pleasant role – but in a week, a month what will i really remember about the bad days i have there? Probably not the specifics but i hope to remember that at least i was respectful and helpful, and tried to do my job. Meh!
