Baking Animal

Hey! Happy Saturday! Hope you’re sleeping in 🙂

Last night, we watched Get Him to the Greek (HILARE, btw) and I was perusing blogs on the computer. It’s a luxury to read blogs at night from a legit computer, since usually I depend on my phone during the day to catch me up 🙂 Anyway, I started to think about recipes in the blogworld that I’ve been wanting to try and haven’t made for one reason or another.

And then #1 hit me: HEABs oaties.

mixer

So I did what all the other party animals do —–> baked at 11pm 😀

oatie dough

I followed her recipe almost exactly, with these changes:

-forgot the vanilla (oops!)

-way more than half a cup of chocolate chips… I never measure chocolate chips 😉

-chopped cashews for the nuts

-a mix of Nuttzo, almond butter and cashew butter for the nut butter

They came out beautifully.

oaties

So soft and chewy- I had imagined them to be crunchy for some reason. I ate one last night before bed, one this morning and am taking the rest to work to share with the girls 🙂

Lunch/snacks all packed up:

lunch

-gluten free saltines

-vanilla goat’s milk yogurt

-wrap with brown rice tortilla, Veganaise, Dijon, organic turkey heated up, romaine, avocado

-an entire thing of organic blueberries

Breakfast:

oiaj

Cold protein oats in a jar 🙂

oiaj (2)

In the waning almond butter jar, I added: 1 C almond milk, 1/2 scoop Sun Warrior, 1/3 C uncooked GF oats, cinnamon and frozen blackberries

I’m off to get ready for work, but I hope you have an amazing day! My motivation for getting through the crazy work day: when I get home, it’s get-ready-for-our-trip time 🙂

In less than 24 hours, we’ll be in Vegas, baby!

See ya laterrrrr <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What are you up to this weekend? Any fun parties, fitness events or getaways planned?

That is the BEST almond butter! I love the PB version too. Cheers to TJs. 🙂

  2. Tori (Fresh Fruition) on June 4, 2011 at 11:01 am

That oats in a jar looks amazing! I love blueberries in my oats, especially warm ones!

I’m off to a tasting at our health food store- then we’re going to walk around a historic city near us! The weather is finally nice today so it should be tons of fun.

  3. Laura @ LauraLikesDesign on June 4, 2011 at 11:08 am

I love TJ’s line of nut butters–great taste yet way cheaper than the other health stores.

This weekend, I’ve got a sister shopping date and then a girls’ night planned…I’m really excited for both!

  4. Holly @ The Runny Egg on June 4, 2011 at 11:17 am

Somehow I missed the fact that you’re going to Vegas this soon! Have a great time!!!

I love HEAB’s recipes — I haven’t tried the oaties yet. And I’m with you on not measuring choc chips.

  5. Gina (Yogattude) on June 4, 2011 at 11:18 am

Who doesn’t eat the whole container of blueberries in one sitting!!! That movie was hilarious!

  6. The Teenage Taste on June 4, 2011 at 11:19 am

Mmmmm…that oatie dough would have never been made into oaties. It looks so good that I would have eaten it all and telling myself it’s OK because it’s healthy. Haha!
PS – I made your Amaze Ballz yesterday. Delicious! I can’t even taste the protein powder! 😀

  7. Christi on June 4, 2011 at 11:19 am

Those oats in a jar look delish!! Wow!!

I have a question for you. I live in Dallas, TX and we do not have a Trader Joe’s near us. Do you know of any stores (besides Whole Foods) that are similar to TJ’s that might be near me? I’m just starting to transition to clean eating and am pretty clueless. LOL

  8. Hillary on June 4, 2011 at 11:28 am

Ohh, I might need to make those oaties this weekend.

As for weekend plans, it’s my birthday weekend! Going out for a special dinner tonight to celebrate : )

    Have a great trip!

Woooo Vegas! Sin City haha!! Have a fantastic time. Oats look so good with the blackberries – adds a nice colour! Totally down with 11pm baking! Our oven is have some difficulties right now, so I can’t even think about baking!

  10. Nelly on June 4, 2011 at 11:31 am

Why are you heating up the lunchmeats?

  11. SheFit on June 4, 2011 at 11:35 am

I’m always looking for new recipes! These look delicious. Glad they turned out well. Can’t wait to try them. Happy Weekend! I’m off to hangout with my parents before I head into work.

  12. Caroline on June 4, 2011 at 11:38 am

those oats look delish! you eat them uncooked right? Any benefits to eating oats raw? Sometimes Ill eat oats in the raw just for the different texture – didnt know if cooked vs uncooked is better for you…. thoughts?

    Have a great weekend!

Nice busy weekend over here; well, the rain cancelled out my son’s last baseball game : ( But, we’re headed to a Sacramento King’s BBQ and meeting some of the players!!!!!! Sunday, my Aunt and I are running our first 5k!!!! I’m so excited and nervous. I really have not trained at all, but we’re gonna rock it (the plan is to run for 8 min walk 1). And it’s my Mama’s bday! She’s been going through some medical issues, so we’re hoping to hear the good news today, so she can feel free to celebrate! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

    Hi Gina,
A totally unrelated Q..howz the keratin treatment suiting your hair?..Does the keratin treatment make your hair pin straight? I remember you had 2 treatments that u mentioned on the blog. Have you had anymore?…howz your hair been after the treatment?..have you had touch ups?…did u lose hair after the treatment?…curious and eager to hear from you about it.
    Enjoy your Vegas trip. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2011 at 12:12 am

      i haven’t had a touch-up lately and can tell i need one!
i didn’t lose hair after and have loved less frizz. it’s been amazing. my hair isn’t pin straight and i can still wear it curly- it just takes the frizz out

  18. Anna on June 4, 2011 at 12:17 pm

I went clubbing last night, and then tonight I am going to my friend’s house for dinner 😀

  19. Namaste Gurl on June 4, 2011 at 12:32 pm

Heather’s oaties are the bi- bomb– so yummy and nutritious. She really is a genius, no? 🙂
You really need to teach me how to fold and wrap a brown rice tortilla– they *always* fall apart on me! I’d love some of your magic in that area 🙂
    Have a LOVELY day

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2011 at 12:11 am

i heat it up first and that helps 🙂

  20. Lindsay@LivingLindsay on June 4, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Seriously – how delish is that almond butter? I bought it once to try it and have been buying it ever since. It’s so tasty!!

  21. Lisa on June 4, 2011 at 1:05 pm

Have a fab Vegas trip…sounds like fun 🙂

I am not a big fan of almond butter…but that TJ’s variety is super delicious!
Girl after my own heart—baking at 11pm (and also forgetting the vanilla…hehe).

  22. Paige @Running Around Normal on June 4, 2011 at 1:15 pm

ha! Love that you always seem to be a midnight baker:) Hey, when the baking craving hits, you can’t deny it, right??

So jealous of your Vegas getaway!

  26. Moni'sMeals on June 4, 2011 at 1:56 pm

    weird!
I also had oats in a pb jar this morning and last night I was baking at 11:00 too.
    🙂
But then again we have so much in common after all!

  27. Stephanie on June 4, 2011 at 1:58 pm

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person in the world who’s never been to Las Vegas. But I’ve seen it in lots of movies. 😉 Have fun!

  28. The Healthy Hipster on June 4, 2011 at 2:04 pm

  31. Anne on June 4, 2011 at 2:49 pm

    toasting lunchmeats? 😉

  32. Amanda Jewell on June 4, 2011 at 2:59 pm

Need to get on the Oaties boat soon! Fun weekend events: friends are in town & we went out for a fun night on the town last night which included a bar with Alice in Wonderland decor & late night pizza! Today’s agenda: BBQ party!

  33. Claire @ Un Bello Aperitivo on June 4, 2011 at 2:59 pm

    Good luck with the packing!

I just don’t know when to stop with the blueberries…so good. I’d eat a whole container of them if they just weren’t so expensive. Perhaps it’s time to invest in a blueberry farm, haha.

  34. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on June 4, 2011 at 3:46 pm

I’ve made HEAB’s oaties ages ago and made some tweaks to them and they were so good. And easy! Thanks for the reminder. Yours look wonderful.

And being able to read blogs or email from a legit computer not an iphone or a BBerry is wayyyyyyy nicer, isn’t it. A nice TREAT.

Any fitness events or trips coming up for me? Just got back from being gone 3 weeks and hit the ground running but do have a couple fun, much shorter, trips coming up, too. Have fun in Vegas when you guys go, of course!!

  35. Sarah on June 4, 2011 at 4:10 pm

I had a Girls On the Run fundraiser all day today. It was long and hot but very successful!

    Have fun in Vegas!

  36. Amelia on June 4, 2011 at 5:32 pm

Mmm…I really need to make these oaties. They have stared me down on HEAB’s blog and now here.

Aren’t blueberries so refreshing right now? I’m loving the local ones from the market on my overnight oats at breakfast. So refreshing, especially in the humid Charleston weather!

  37. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on June 4, 2011 at 6:18 pm

I really wanted to make her oaties about a year ago when I started reading her blog, but I totally forgot about them! I think I know what I’m doing tomorrow. 😀

So exciting that you’re going to Vegas! Have a safe trip there.

  38. Dana Marie on June 4, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Are GF oats a lot more expensive?
Also I found a post about this:
    http://thepointwellness.tumblr.com/post/6041988551/annoying-bumps-on-the-backs-of-your-upper-arms
and was wondering if you could substantiate it — the blogger didn’t reply
I’m considering going more gluten free — it’s annoying though in terms of bread —

  39. M on June 4, 2011 at 6:47 pm

organic turkey heated up…. *eh hmm* 🙂

Hubby and me went for a bike ride through a beautiful garden this morning and now I’m at work… but still had a fun AM! Tomorrow we are babysitting our neighbors cute baby 🙂 I think babies are on someone elses mind too.. lalala

    Have FUN in Vegas!!!

  40. Megan on June 4, 2011 at 6:50 pm

Yum yum! I have a question for ya- I’ve been playing with whole foods, gluten free and raw food living the past year. I’m curious what your opinion on “food combining” is- If you know what I mean, like from “The Raw Food Detox Diet (Natalia Rose) and others. Thoughts? I’d love to hear them!

    • Fitnessista on June 5, 2011 at 12:09 am

i think food combining works for some people, but i don’t encourage it. i think our bodies are smarter than we give them credit for and can take the trash out on their own 😉 plus: food combining makes eating a chore, which is never a good thing

  41. Sana on June 4, 2011 at 7:44 pm

I totally dislike reading blogs in my phone, I want the FULL effect on a computer!

  42. Lauren @ Sassy Molassy on June 4, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Mmm…those blueberries look great! Today I drove 2 hrs to watch some of my good friends run a small marathon on the Oregon Coast. Because I’m in the midst of training for two uber long runs in the fall (31 mile trail race and a marathon a month later-eeks), I needed to get my long run in while I was there. I decided to do an out and back on the course so I could see my friends when they were in their last few miles. I cranked out 15 miles in the hot sun, but really enjoyed seeing all the marathoners out there.

  43. Babs on June 4, 2011 at 8:31 pm

Baking at night can never be a bad thing 😉 Have fun in Vegas . . . there’s a good raw place off the strip, if you’re looking for something healthy. I believe it’s called Go Raw. This weekend I’m at the in-laws and their property is so lovely that I feel like it’s a spa resort. Plus, they have all kinds of goodies for us–Turkish bread w/ dips, specialty beers, the best roasted veggies, and, of course, amazing company.

  44. Whitney on June 4, 2011 at 9:09 pm

Ah! Can’t wait to read your Vegas points to find out what I need to hit up when I’m there in July!
