Cardio Barre Workout (30-minute video)

This cardio barre workout combines classic barre elements with cardio intervals for a fun and challenging strength and cardio workout! All you need for this workout is your own body weight!

Hi friends! How’s the morning going? I’ve got a podcast interview today and am looking forward to some sushi takeout with the fam.

I have a new barre workout for ya! I’ve had barre on the brain because I’m starting to choreograph the rest of the workouts for Barre Bootcamp 2. It will be coming later this spring and I’m so pumped for it!

This particular workout is one of my favorite ways to do barre. It combines classic barre endurance work for that deep muscle burn and cardio intervals for an awesome sweat. You don’t need any equipment for this one; just your own bodyweight.

Here’s an image to pin for a rainy day:

and here’s the full follow-along video, which is 30 minutes. I include include beginner and postpartum modifications in the video, but as always, check with a doctor before making any fitness changes. Honor your body and modify as needed.

Some FAQs about barre workouts:

What kind of workout is barre?

Barre workouts combine ballet elements with low weight strength endurance work. Barre exercises usually include a mixture of full range moments, tiny pulses, and isometric holds. There are various core elements to barre workouts and the exercises and based on good posture, core stabilization, and glute and leg strengthening exercises. I found that barre targets many muscle groups that are difficult to strengthen otherwise, like glute medius, inner and outer thighs. It challenges me unlike any other workout! Here’s a vintage post I wrote all about barre.

Is barre safe for pregnancy?

As always, you should check with your doctor before making any fitness changes, especially while pregnant. My general rule of thumb for prenatal fitness is to maintain and not add, unless you have been previously sedentary and want to begin a walking program. I found barre to be one of the gentlest and most fun workouts I was able to continue throughout both of my entire pregnancies.

I have a prenatal workout video here.

Which barre workout is the best?

There are SO many different studios and barre techniques out there that you really need to try different classes and find the one that vibes for you. I wrote a post comparing barre3 and pure barre here, but I have to say, of all the barre workouts in the sea, my favorite studio class is Physique 57. When I teach barre, I only include exercises and elements that I personally love and tend to favor a classic barre (ballerina-esque but lots of burning strength work and cardio drills) workout.

If you try this one, please leave a comment and let me know!

Have a lovely day and I’ll see ya in the am! Please leave any future video requests in the comments. I have some time to film more this weekend.

did the video this morning and loved it! I’m pregnant with baby 2, 15 weeks and finding it is feeling good for me to cycle in some lower impact workouts. This still had me sweating and shaking!
