Dating Yourself

Morning friends! How are you??

So glad ya liked the Jacksonville pics– it was a glorious day 😀 It’s funny because I used to never enjoy doing things alone and as I’ve gotten older (and married a military man), I think I’ve perfected the art of dating myself 😀 I’d much rather hang out with friends, but sometimes it’s fun to go on excursions alone. Bonus: I’m a more efficient shopper when I’m alone- fast and furious 🙂

Plane materials:

The girl at Freshen’s was so sweet to make me a smoothie with frozen strawberries, water and the protein blend I’ve been using. (Separated into baggies for the trip)

protein

A scoop of the protein my doc sent me (which tastes like death and sadness) and a scoop of glorious Sun Warrior to drown it out

The flight was pretty standard (lots of reading and mouth-open sleeping- I’m thisclose to finishing Crazy, Sexy Diet and American Wife), and I was so happy to see the fam and this furry face when I got to Tucson.

bella

(She’s still in bed sleeping this morning-  I need to go tuck her in again)

I hugged the roomies and caught up with them, then proceeded to make midnight Amazeballz 🙂

It was perfect crumbled into this morning’s protein ice cream:

ice cream

Tip: You don’t need xanthan gum for protein ice cream- just try to use a more equal ratio of almond milk to frozen fruit. This will create an ice cream sorbet-type delight 🙂

ice cream (2)

In the mix:

-1 C-ish frozen organic blueberries

-1 C-ish of almond milk

-1 scoop of each type of protein

-3/4 t decaf espresso powder

-cinnamon

-crumbled amazeball

I’m off to instruct in the art of cardio booty-shaking 🙂

(Pic is from the Year in Review class– I’m in the light blue –haze- shirt)

Have an amazing day and I’ll see ya laterrrrrr <3

xoxo

I love going on dates with myself! Shopping is always my date of choice! I can do some damage when I’m shopping by myself–so it’s probably a good thing that I usually bring along a friend. 😉

    Congrats to the Vita-mix winner!!

  2. BIOCHEMISTA on February 1, 2011 at 10:31 am

Congrats to Diana! That’s an aaaaamazing win! (*jealous*)

I reeally want to try Dance Trance but sadly it hasn’t caught on in the DC area 🙁

  3. lindsey on February 1, 2011 at 10:33 am

With two kids and a husband in grad school, I don’t often have time to take myself on dates BUT, I do make it a point to leave the kids with Dad and go to yoga at least once a week…and usually I end up getting a smoothie and making a pitstop at TJ Maxx on my way home 🙂

  4. fitandclean on February 1, 2011 at 10:35 am

My fave date for myself is going to Sbux and/or getting my nails done and a pedicure. It’s the BEST! Otherwise, I have 3 kids so it’s hard to get out ;)Congrats to Diane!

  5. lauren alysse on February 1, 2011 at 10:35 am

i’m dying for that sun warrior promo! i’ve tried so many other kinds without much love, and i think sunwarrior is the one for me 🙂

  6. Carrie S. on February 1, 2011 at 10:36 am

I took myself to see The Fighter this weekend. My hubby works 50-60 hours a week and is in grad school, so our opportunities for ‘real’ dates are few and far between. I’ve always enjoyed alone time, though.

  7. Katie on February 1, 2011 at 10:37 am

I think the last time I went on a date by myself was last fall. My boyfriend was working late and I didn’t want to stay in, so I went to our favorite sushi restaurant, sat at the bar, ordered a glass of vino along with my sushi rolls, and enjoyed myself chatting it up with the sushi chefs. 🙂

  8. Kara on February 1, 2011 at 10:38 am

The baby and I go on dates all the time. She likes to go out to lunch with me 🙂

  9. kt on February 1, 2011 at 10:40 am

I’m so with you on the shopping thing. Having a girls’ day is great, but when I need something specific or have lots on my to-do list, I prefer to fly solo.

  10. alicia on February 1, 2011 at 10:54 am

    So jealous Diana!!!!
    Your bros are too cute!
I have this wen night off (no hubby or kids) and I wanted to see if a friend wanted to do dinner, but the more I thought about it, the more I like the idea of doing whatever I want…I complain about not doing enough with my friends, but when it comes down to it, I prefer to just be alone??

  11. Katie on February 1, 2011 at 10:55 am

Oh I love dating myself too ; ) sometimes we need it, its nice to have just a ‘me ‘ day! I like to go to Whole Foods ( I could seriously just do that and be there all day ) go to the mall, a workout, and maybe a movie ; ) I say I make a hot date ; ) lol

Have fun booty shaking girl!! Love!

  12. Geneviève on February 1, 2011 at 10:55 am

I wish Open Sky would deliver to Canada – I still enjoy taking a quick look at it 😉 Because I obviously love shopping by myself (online or not) 😉

    • Fitnessista on February 1, 2011 at 1:35 pm

      i wish they did, too!

  13. Stephanie on February 1, 2011 at 11:10 am

Dates by yourself once in a while are a must! One time I went to a local art festival. Starbucks trips are good too. And I agree, I am a better shopper by myself 🙂

  14. michele on February 1, 2011 at 11:18 am

The protein ice cream looks yummmmy! I plan on making it soon! I currently use a whey protein powder that I really enjoy and am considering a rice protein powder. I cant stand a protein powder that is “gritty” and changes the consistency of my oatmeal (oatmeal + chocolate protein powder, my fave breakfast EVER) does the SunWarrior protein powder do that? what kind of texture does it have? Thanks ahead of time 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 1, 2011 at 1:35 pm

sun warrior is so smooth- not chalky at all! that’s why it’s a fave 🙂

  15. Leanne (For Health's Sake) on February 1, 2011 at 11:22 am

I need to do more “dating” with myself haha 🙂

I’ve been making my health more of a priority and doing more gym dates by myself which I think should count!

& I think I might treat myself to some sun warrior off your opensky page! have a fantastic Tuesday!

    • Leanne (For Health's Sake) on February 1, 2011 at 11:22 am

oh crap, I just saw the above comment that opensky doesn’t deliver to Canada… is this true? Can you yell at opensky and tell them to change their ways?!

  16. Moni'sMeals on February 1, 2011 at 11:28 am

Thinking about it, I have more dates with myself than I realize! Nothing wrong with that though. 🙂

Congrats to the Vitam Mix winner. woohoo!

  17. Tyler on February 1, 2011 at 11:34 am

I hate when the hubs is on a temporary vacay, but I do love the time to catch up with myself. I can shop without hearing groans and I don’t have to go into Game Stop or Best Buy for 45 years (I’m allergic to both places). Being a military wife has really made me a lot more independent and for that, I’m greatful.

On a side note, this makes me think of the episode of SATC when Carrie decides she is going to marry herself and registers for Manolos! Bahahaha! Maybe we should be going through life thinking WWCD, what would Carrie do? She may be on to something.

  18. Stacy @ Every Little Thing on February 1, 2011 at 11:46 am

I prefer solo dates a lot too! I love going to the market by myself, or out to lunch. And I def prefer clothes-shopping alone!

  19. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on February 1, 2011 at 11:51 am

I love this idea- dating yourself. I tend to do a lot of things alone just because I like it, and although some people think it’s weird I really do enjoy my own company!! Glad you made it back safely love, have a wonderful day!

  20. Gavi @ GaviGetsGoing! on February 1, 2011 at 11:53 am

I love going on solo dates, especially for exercise and shopping. It’s fun to just do my own thing and enjoy some “me” time! This weekend, I took myself to the gym, out to lunch at Whole Foods, and then to Sports Basement for some workout apparel shopping. I love spending time with others, too, but there’s nothing quite like being your own best friend! 🙂

  21. Shanna @ Shanna LIke Banana on February 1, 2011 at 11:54 am

I’m pretty darn independent so I like “dating myself” as well. Usually shopping, pedis, errands, baking, reading makes for a great day!

  22. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on February 1, 2011 at 11:57 am

Haha giiiirl I had a surrious boyfriend last year, and I decided this year I really needed a break. Aka I’m dating myself….a lot. But I love it! I took myself on a datedate to Barnes and Noble the other day and it was so relaxing, I got an sbux tea and read books fo FREE:)

  23. Amelia on February 1, 2011 at 11:57 am

The only kind of solo dates I like are those to the grocery store or clothes shopping. Other than that I miss my hubby who is thousands of miles away.

I really could use a date with a massage. My muscles need it! 🙂

  24. Amanda (Eating Up) on February 1, 2011 at 12:04 pm

I love going places by myself! I do most of my shopping alone too. I get way more done that way!

  25. Sarah (Sarah Learns) on February 1, 2011 at 12:06 pm

i like going one coffee shop dates! i just tried a new coffeeshop near my apartment for a couple-hour reading sesh! it was wonderful. 🙂

  26. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on February 1, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I like to go on solo dates to the movies. People always say it’s weird, but it’s not like I’d actually talk to my date in the movies anyhow.

  27. Tina on February 1, 2011 at 12:08 pm

Learning how to enjoy time by myself has really helped me grow as a person. As the quote days, if you are lonely when you’re alone, you are in bad company!

  28. Jenna@frombostonwithlove on February 1, 2011 at 12:09 pm

My hubs travels for work mon-thursday night each week. It is nice to be on my own schedule but I miss him. Weirdly enough, sometimes we have a hard time getting back into the “together groove” of working together on the weekends.

My favorite self date is getting a pedicure while reading the trashy gossips mags. Also, taking all the time in the world to run errands. I LOVE running errands!

  29. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on February 1, 2011 at 12:09 pm

I love going on dates with myself! In fact, I prefer to go shopping by myself– I’m much more efficient that way. 😉 I also love going to coffee shops by myself and getting some work done.

  30. Jess@atasteofconfidence on February 1, 2011 at 12:13 pm

    happy birthday to your bro!

  31. Shelby on February 1, 2011 at 12:15 pm

Standard Process! Are you following the SP Purification guidelines and taking all of the recommended supplements?

    • Fitnessista on February 1, 2011 at 1:31 pm

yep! i added back in nuts earlier than they suggested but everything else has been on par. are you familiar with it??

      • Shelby on February 1, 2011 at 5:23 pm

I’m a student in an alternative health care profession and we work a lot with SP and their products. Many of my classmates have completed the purification and I’m planning to after V-Day dark chocolate consumption. 😉 Excited to hear about your experiences!

  32. Kathie @ Frugal Fit and Fabulous on February 1, 2011 at 12:17 pm

Congrats to Diana!! Im uber jealous!

I love going on dates with myself. Sometimes those are the best kinds. ha!

  33. Sara on February 1, 2011 at 12:18 pm

I take myself on shopping dates. It’s bad 🙂

Aww Bella is so sweet all cuddled up!

  35. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on February 1, 2011 at 12:20 pm

Such a lovely pic of you and your brothers!! And shopping trips are so much easier on your own. There’s no one to sidetrack you!

  36. Joelle (The Pancake Girl) on February 1, 2011 at 12:24 pm

Since I’m in a long distance relationship AND only living here in D.C. for a little over a year, a lot of times in order to explore new places or try new fitness classes I have no choice but to date myself… I actually don’t mind at all usually. And shopping? I agree with what you said- I am far more efficient when I’m alone, like you mentioned. Otherwise I just want to talk to my friends and can’t make a decision.

  37. Kelly on February 1, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I agree! As I’ve gotten older, I actually love having time to “date myself” but maybe that comes with my husband being gone a good bit too. You get so used to it, you learn to appreciate it once in a while. Q for you: Would you recommend reading Crazy, Sexy Diet? The word diet put me off, but then when I checked out the highlights on Amazon, I thought about ordering it.

    • Fitnessista on February 1, 2011 at 1:29 pm

it depends on what your current eating style is like- i love the writing style of the book but haven’t learned anything yet
it’s more of a “here’s why you should eat a high-raw vegetarian diet” for health than a weight loss-y diet book

  38. Ashley on February 1, 2011 at 12:28 pm

I do LOTS of stuff by myself! I obviously prefer to be with the hubbs, but there are times when I’m glad to send him off on a boys’ night so I can have the house to myself for a good bubble bath and girly show : )

  39. Caree @ Fit-Mama! on February 1, 2011 at 12:40 pm

It took me awhile to appreciate being by myself too! Now, I don’t think I would know what to do with myself if I didn’t have a hubby or kiddos with me.

Congrats Diana! That is def an awesome win!!

  40. Christin@purplebirdblog on February 1, 2011 at 12:42 pm

I work at home alone all day, so I definitely enjoy human interaction when I can score it, but something about running errands alone really has a therapeutic touch to it that I love!

  41. Erica on February 1, 2011 at 1:03 pm

    Gina,

Are you teaching any fitness classes at Davis-Monthan while you are here in Tucson?

    • Fitnessista on February 1, 2011 at 1:28 pm

no i’m teaching at a dance studio- was thinking of picking up a zumba class on base 🙂 we shall see! if you like dance cardio though, send me an email!

  42. Sassy Molassy on February 1, 2011 at 1:07 pm

  45. Gina on February 1, 2011 at 1:23 pm

  46. Heather (heathers dish) on February 1, 2011 at 1:23 pm
