Our most stead fast holiday tradition is “cab fest.”
My sister and I are both vegans, so holiday meals for us consisted of carbs, carbs and more carbs.
5 years ago the two of us moved out of our parents house together, and thus began the tradition of carb fest. This is on Thanksgiving and Christmas, where I cook for about 12 hours, making all carbs. Garlic roasted mashed potatoes, miso gravy, mashed sweet potatoes, stuffing, vegan home made perogies, raw pumpkin pie, a salad for good measure and whatever else I feel inspired to make. One year even included a home made baked mac and cheese. Now my hunny gets to participate in the fun too! It is most likely my sisters favourite day of the year 😉

I have a few.
Many years ago, really up through my high school years, I sang in the church choir for Christmas, and all through high school, I had a solo every year. I loved singing at the evening Mass on Christmas Eve. The classic Christmas hymns are still my favorites.
More recently, I love exchanging a homemade/handmade gift with my husband. We’ve pretty much made gifts for each other every Christmas except last year, when our twin girls were just 4 months old. We’ve also been making our gifts for our family, too, for going on four years now, I think. We’ve created some pretty neat things for each other and for our loved ones.
And this year, we started a new tradition. I made an Advent calendar for the girls; inside each little pouch is an activity to help count down to Christmas. We’ve already made Christmas cards, watched a couple of classic Christmas shows and eaten Santa pancakes for dinner. We’ve got baking cookies, donating to charity, and taking a lights tour on the docket over the next couple weeks.
I love watching them wake up and run to the tree though. They are 16 months old and don’t really talk, so everything is ‘Dah!’ They run from their room to the living room pointing at the tree, saying ‘Dah! Dah!’ It’s adorable. They love the lights we have all over the house and it just melts my heart to see them so excited.
Listening to my Grandpa read the Christmas story from Luke 2 on Christmas night!
Christmas Eve candle light service with my family and family dinner afterwards
Our favorite tradition is on the weekend after thanksgiving, we watch Christmas Vacation and put up the tree as a family!
Every year my family and I go downtown (we live in Chicago) to check out the Christkindlmarket and take pictures at the tree.
I bake hundreds of Christmas cookies with my mom every year. Even when I was away at college, she would save a few batches for me to do with her when I came back to town.
I love our annual Hunt for the perfect Christmas tree!
Our Christmas tradition is that we watch one Christmas every night from the day after Thanksgiving all the way thru January 1st!
Cutting down our christmas! 🙂
