Every year we go to our local candy shop, Logan’s Candies, that still make candy canes by hand. They have demonstrations for the public and everyone watching gets a warm freshly made right before your eyes piece of candy cane. They are the best candy canes you will every have. My friends and family always look forward to a candy cane from me with their gift.

Elf on the shelf! My little niece told me the other day how she’s nervous because she thinks Elf saw her being mean to her little brother the other day. I thought it was so cute, she was so concerned that Max the Elf will tell Santa!

My husband and I always dedicate one Friday or Saturday evening before Christmas to camp out on the couch with nibbles and a bottle of wine to watch Love Actually. I only let myself watch the movie once a year, and I look forward to this little date night in all year long.

  24. Megan on December 8, 2014 at 6:48 am

Since I was little, and my mom and step-dad have been together, we have always had our Christmas celebration on the 24th. Our food for Christmas has always been pizza – we have utilized different pizza places over the years but we’ve always had it (as well as other treats). It was something that was so exciting and special to me as a little kid and still is. Everybody loves pizza, right? Oh, and we get together and be a family as well which is even better than the pizza.

  25. Julie on December 8, 2014 at 6:48 am

Prawns on my parents’ balcony on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas). It’s always super hot and the perfect way to end Chrissy in the summer.

  28. Mary Beth on December 8, 2014 at 6:50 am

This has been a tough year, as my family lost my mother right after Christmas. I’ve never cared for the season, but something sparked me this year to really get into it, and I’d like to think that my mother has everything to do with it from “up there” as it was her very favorite time of year. So this year (and every year after this), I vow to embrace all of the family traditions. I feel like I’m seeing these for the first time!

  31. Meaghan on December 8, 2014 at 6:51 am

We always go to the movies together as a family on Christmas Day. It started because my grandfather owned several movie theaters when my mom was growing up. He had to work on Christmas Day because it’s actually one of the busiest days at the movies, so my mom and grandma would go be with him at the theater. Now we keep the tradition going and head out for an early afternoon show after opening presents.

  32. Kristen on December 8, 2014 at 6:51 am

My favorite holiday tradition is one night for my kids to sleep by the Christmas tree…I did this as a child too.

My husband and I recently started the tradition of watching White Christmas and having our own little pre-Christmas – just the 2 of us – on the night before we leave to go visit family. It’s nice to slow things down if only for a few hours and just be able to celebrate the season together.

  40. Andrea B on December 8, 2014 at 7:00 am

I love spending the day together with my family on Christmas Eve & then we all head to church together that evening. They live 12 hrs from us so we only get to do this every other year and it’s one of my favourite days of the year!

We usually make gingerbread houses with my mom just before Christmas – but we make them using graham crackers, frosting, and little milk cartons from her school (she’s a kindergarten teacher). It’s so much fun and SO much easier than the more involved kits.

  49. Nicole on December 8, 2014 at 7:09 am

My favorite tradition is grabbing Starbucks and driving around to look at Christmas lights. It’s even more magical if we have snow on the ground!
