Every Christmas Eve, my dad and I attend a midnight church service. Growing up, I always spent Christmas Eve with my mom and her side of the family, so this was a tradition we began when I was still in high school as an opportunity to spend some extra time together. ๐Ÿ™‚

We always have a pre-celebration on Christmas Eve with dinner and then we each open 1 gift. This year I started doing Elf on a Shelf and that is definitely a new favorite. Pre-order the book. Can’t wait for recipes and at home workouts.

  21. Melodie on December 8, 2014 at 7:25 am

Holiday traditions are a huge childhood memory for me. So i really try to create those same memories for my kids. I have several faves. One that sticks out is christmas decorating night. It’s like a family party. Fun festive snacky foods for dinner, christmas music playing, kids in their new christmas jammies. Growing up this was one of my favorite days of the year. … Just time together with my family. Two new things I’ve added for my own children are each night going through a reading for our Jesse Tree. And each morning opening our little wooden advent calendar to see what our christmas activity for the day is. Some days don’t require alot of time so it’s “dance to christmas music”. Others could be “shop for someone in need”. I could go on and on. …. memory making is important to me and I think traditions are a huge part of that.

I love going to pick out a tree, and then coming home to put it up and listen to christmas music and how cozy the house feels ๐Ÿ™‚

My favorite holiday tradition is Christmas eve with my entire family. My grandma always made Christmas eve the most special day of the year for all of us. After opening Christmas presents my cousin and I would put on our new pjs and dance to Feliz navidad in the kitchen ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Susan D on December 8, 2014 at 7:31 am

My favorite holiday traditions didn’t use to be so important to me as they’ve come to be. I like having the smell of pine around the house and, of course, a Christmas tree lit (with colored lights). Making Christmas cookies was a tradition I haven’t done in a while. We used to cut out candy canes, trees, stars, and bells out of the dough, bake them, and then ice them (my favorite part growing up). We had to be careful, though, or my dog’s tongue would reach a few near the edge of the table and then, well, they were his. After moving out, I also missed the Christmas Day presents in the morning and just a lazy day at home. Nothing terribly adventurous or unique about these traditions, but they’re important to me ๐Ÿ™‚

We went to a party last night hosted by fitness lovers, and all of us wore jingle bells and glow necklaces, and we did a 3 mi run/walk around their neighborhood to look at the lights. We came back together and sang Christmas carols on the corner of their street while neighbors came out to applaud, and then went back inside to enjoy posole. The perfect Christmas party!
