First Miss

Hey! Happy Friday! Also, happy first day of fall 🙂 How’s your new leaf going?

Exciting things going on in the blogworld today:

Sabrina had her baby!

Heather’s wedding day

Good stuff all around 😀

Thank you so much for you kind words of encouragement last night <3 I’m excited to take a step back, brainstorm, reassess and see what the next step will be.

The Pilot and I talked about life over heaping bowls of channa masala:

channa

[his was on basmati rice, mine on arugula]

veggies

veg

and a side of X Factor.

I didn’t know if it would be a show I’d like –I don’t watch a ton of TV and only have 3 *shows*- and we loved it. It’s kind of sad to watch the people that think that they’re really good, and they’re horrible, and so inspiring to see people like this.

They could just end the show right now. I had giant tears falling down my face by the end, and the Pilot said he had the chills.

We paused X Factor after that and took Bell for an hour walk at the park- she loved it 🙂

This morning, I was in the mood for a sludge:

smoothie

-1/2 C orange juice

-1/2 C almond milk

-1/2 pack Vega smoothie infusion

-1/2 banana

-1/2 mango

-handful of spinach

smoothie (2)

+ an egg, over hard.

egg

I haven’t told you guys about this yet, but I’ve kind of become a pro egg flipper. I flip everything now- flat eggs, over easy eggs, pancakes… flip master. The Pilot taught me the trick he learned from watching Alton Brown and I’ve never gone back. The trick is that if you do it with confidence and don’t hesitate, it works.

Well, this morning, I hesitated for a split second.

egg (2)

Oops, hahah. I used a spatula to flip the second egg 😉

Plan for the day:

-Gym

-Post office

-Fashion post

-Computer stuff [goal: have the “Fun” page ready to go and pics ready for the Family page revamp]

-Lion King in 3D. Yep, it’s happening 🙂

See ya later, friends <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to think:

Flipping makes me nervous! Even if I make it inside the pan is still turns into a scrambled egg mess 🙂

  2. Dawn @ Blonde on a Mission on September 23, 2011 at 11:54 am

I am the worst flipper in the world. Pancakes don’t stand a chance against my lack of flipping skills. That egg picture is so sad and funny 😀 lol

  3. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on September 23, 2011 at 11:55 am

I love Brian Tracy quotes, they’re all so inspirational!! And I had to laugh about the egg, because I’ve done the same thing, only it was an entire omelet!

  4. Carly on September 23, 2011 at 11:56 am

I saw Lion King 3D this week too! Brought back such awesome childhood memories 🙂

  5. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on September 23, 2011 at 11:57 am

good idea – I must see if it’s playing around here, I’d love to see it in 3d!!

  6. Samantha on September 23, 2011 at 11:58 am

Yikes how are you gonna clean down the side of the stove??

    • Fitnessista on September 23, 2011 at 12:02 pm

i’ve been wondering the same thing.. when i wiped the egg up, the rest of the yolk came with it, which was surprising, and i stuck an antibacterial wipe down the side and rubbed. i may have to ask the pilot to help me when he gets home

      • Elizabeth @ reads recipes runs on September 23, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I have the same situation at my house! I wrap a antibacterial wipe around a chopstick and use that to wipe down inbetween the two. Just hold on to the top of the wipe or it might fall (I did this the first time and then had to do an searching expidition for it haha). It doesn’t clean all the way down, but I think it’s getting most of the stuff.

        • Fitnessista on September 23, 2011 at 12:13 pm

that’s kind of what i did- i wrapped it around a butter knife 🙂

        • Samantha on September 23, 2011 at 2:54 pm

that is a good idea! I hate that kitchens always have hard-to-clean spots…

  7. Alyssa @ Life of bLyss on September 23, 2011 at 11:59 am

question of the day: I have some straws kinda like that, and they are SUCH a bear to clean! what do you use to keep yours fresh? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on September 23, 2011 at 12:09 pm

i rinse them out as soon as i’m done using them to get the ick out, and then put them in the dishwasher.

  8. Jess@pinkchilli on September 23, 2011 at 11:59 am

Wow that woman was amazing!!!!! I’m not a fan of the x factor in the UK as it seems to take up so much time if you get sucked into watching the whole things but love seeing the people who can really belt out a song!

    • Fitnessista on September 23, 2011 at 12:09 pm

      crazy awesome, huh?

      • Jill on September 23, 2011 at 1:20 pm

Wow she was amazing! What did the judges say?? I wanted to hear their response! In order to respond, I would have had to bend down to pick my jaw up off the floor.

I saw Lion King 3D last weekend and it was so fun to see! And I loved seeing the little kids in the theater reach out and try to touch the 3D leaves and such. Have fun!

I’m jealous that your going to see Lion King 3D! i haven’t seen that movie in forever.

We as well are seeing Lion King 3-D….very excited for it! All of my parents dogs growing up were named after characters from the movie! Even though we are not expecting or trying currently we still can’t help ourselves from buying Disney and Pixar movies to stock up on for one-day.

  18. Jackie @ That Deep Breath on September 23, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I don’t watch the X Factor, but I watched a clip of a 42 year old woman who’se ex always told her she was too old to be a star and she missed her chance, so she spent the last 12 years believing it. Finally at 42 years old she auditioned for X Factor and was amazing. I got the chills and even had tears welling up at the end. Some of these people have SO much talent it’s crazy

    • Fitnessista on September 23, 2011 at 12:40 pm

i saw her perform on wednesday night! INCREDIBLE

  19. Robin @ The Balanced Life on September 23, 2011 at 12:34 pm

Hah, I love that picture of the egg! Makes me feel better about my flipping skills. I love your quote on gratitude. I do gratitude posts every Friday. Such a great reminder to appreciate the little things 🙂

  20. Beth (Well I'll Be) on September 23, 2011 at 12:36 pm

Oh man, that is the exact reason I have to call Jeff over to the stove every time to flip my eggs. I need to work on my confidence in my flipping skills. It’s really not hard but you’re right, if you hesitate for a second, it’s all over!

  21. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on September 23, 2011 at 12:52 pm

You are gonna LOVE the lion king in 3D! Ah its so good!

And wow that girl on the xfactor was good! I don’t know I thought I wouldn’t like the show either, I really need to give it a chance!

  23. Krystina (Organically Me) on September 23, 2011 at 1:22 pm

I don’t want to see the look on my boyfriend’s face when a runny egg goes flying onto the floor, so I think I’ll stick to using a spatula. 😛

  24. Emily @ Glitz Glam Granola on September 23, 2011 at 1:38 pm

Ohh that channa masala looks delicious! As does your smoothie! I’m a horrible pancake flipper! I’ve never been able to flip them with the pan but sometimes I’m mad even when I am using a spatula! I blame not having a griddle, rather than my own flipping abilities 😉 And oohh just watched the vid- she’s amazing!

  27. Dana Marie on September 23, 2011 at 2:11 pm

I hope all your book deals fail because you are terribly ordinary… snooze

    • Andrea P on September 23, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Personally, I love that you are ordinary Gina 🙂 that’s what makes you so relatable and why SO MANY people love you and your blog.

Dana – you can take your negativity elsewhere. No one wants to hear it.

      • AstroCook on September 23, 2011 at 7:33 pm

I’m completely addicted to your blog (my boyfriend knows your name) because I can relate to you. I don’t know if that makes you ordinary or not, but who cares? I hope your next try at a book goes better. I’m impressed that you keep surging on — you should keep doing that!! What kind of book were you thinking of doing? It sounds like it was something related to being a Military Wife?

Personally, I thought Dana’s comment was so ridiculously mean, I just cracked up. She’s probably on Phase 1 on South Beach. I get bitchy too, on Phase 1. hahahahaha, I’m still laughing. Haters gon’ hate.

        • Fitnessista on September 23, 2011 at 9:37 pm

thank you <3 it's a book for younger military wives
hahahah and you're right, haters gonna hate. and phase 1 will make anyone cranky 😉

    • Fitnessista on September 23, 2011 at 2:53 pm

I will send good vibes to you and a prayer that the rough things you have going on in your life stop interfering with your attitude towards other people. I don’t think it’s fair for you to take it out on me, but these things happen sometimes. I hope you can seek help for everything you’re dealing with and take care of yourself.

GODDAMNIT this is the 2nd time i’ve been to your blog today and BOTH times i’ve cried lol. that video was amazing i mean…. legit stars don’t sound half as good as that live so they should just end that show now and save the time and money haha

I went and saw Lion King 3-D on opening night last week. Ya..I’m 23, no shame. lol I still loved it and had to keep myself from singing along the whole time, haha. Have fun!!

I’ve always wanted to become a “master flipper,” but sadly, this has not happened. It would be awesome to have skills like the chefs at hibachi grills.

I need to cook some chickpeas this weekend so I can make chana masala. It looks totally delicious!

  34. Brittany on September 23, 2011 at 3:13 pm

I never cry and I just cried watching that video! That smoothie looks awesome I’m always looking to try a new combo of smoothies. I’m the WORST at flipping anything. Even with a spatula.

My sister-in-law tried out for the X factor when tryouts came to Chicago – she made it into the 3rd round before being cut loose. She said it was an experience she will always remember – and was almost glad she didn’t make it . . . the whole process left her absolutely exhausted! Enjoy your weekend! Mo

  37. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 23, 2011 at 4:12 pm

Glad to hear you and the Pilot talked life and dined on channa masala. I would have dined on chocolate desserts in your same situation 🙂 (((HUGS)))

As for egg flipping, I have never been able to flip eggs or pancakes very well…both of them end up pretty messy and mangled looked. I need to master the art of the flip!

  38. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on September 23, 2011 at 4:19 pm

Bahaha love the egg situation.. totally been there. I tend to make a mess in the kitchen by myself!

  39. Stephanie on September 23, 2011 at 5:19 pm

I totally agree about the x factor! Wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but I really do! She totally moved me and brought me to tears. I agree they could just end now & let her win! I didn’t comment last night but also wanted to say I’m so sorry about the book deal! I pray something else great comes your way very soon!

  40. Megan @ The Detoxinista on September 23, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Wow, that video was incredible. I actually don’t watch a lot of those shows; but I had to see what was so great…and I got goosebumps. I don’t know what it is about her voice, or maybe it’s just the passion behind it, but that was amazing! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
