Happy 3 months, Penelope! (+ an Owlet giveaway!)

Guess who is 3 months old? That’s a quarter of a year! I can’t even.

3 months 3

Miss P is still smiling like crazy, babbling and cooing to her heart’s delight, and chewing on her hands like they’re a delectable treat. I’m convinced that she’s teething because she is always gnawing on her hands, but the ped said she’s still a little young to be teething. Either way, she’s growing like crazy.

3 months 2

We hit a major turning point with the reflux. A huge part of the puzzle was switching her to Elecare formula (as sad as I was to give up breastfeeding), and thickening it with brown rice cereal. At first, I couldn’t help but think “she’s way too little,” but when she still wasn’t gaining weight appropriately, I was willing to try whatever the ped suggested. For the first time EVER, she gained a pound in between weight checks! I was so, so thrilled. The Elecare formula is very thin and watery, so it was all coming back up (but she was no longer screaming or choking on it). A teaspoon of rice cereal has made the formula stay down, so she’s gaining weight now and HAPPY. I also think that like anything, time has been a huge factor. As her body as matured a little bit, it’s been easier for her to eat and keep it down so, so much better.

3 months

Some of the things she loves this month:

Her Lamaze mermaid. She thinks chewing on her hair is awesome

Practicing her roll

Snuggles before nap time. I’ll lie with her on our bed until she’s calm and comfy before transferring her to the bassinet or crib

Hanging out with her big sis

Livi and p

“This Little Piggy” and “Pat A Cake”

Bath time with Liv

Miss P is officially too big for the bassinet, and we’re slowly transitioning her to the crib. We’re also going to ditch the swaddle since she’s thisclose to completely rolling over. Big changes ahead! I was horrified about having her sleep in another room, especially because of the choking episodes, but we got something that has given me peace of mind: the Owlet Baby Care Smart Sock.

Owlet

I had been looking at monitoring options online, and combed through so many reviews. I didn’t want something that was notorious for false alarms, and also wanted something a little more dependable than strictly movement-sensored or audio based. While we have a video monitor, it doesn’t paint a full picture of how the baby is doing, and I was worried that if she choked during the night, I wouldn’t be able to hear it on the monitor with the sound turned out. The Owlet was everything we needed, and needless to say, I was thrilled and so thankful when they offered to send us one.

Owlet 2

What I love about the Owlet:

-The technology is at-home pulse oximetry monitoring for babies, which monitors heart rate and oxygen levels. This is the same technology they use at doctor’s offices and hospitals, in a portable, soft little sock.

-You slip the sock on the baby’s left foot, and the data is monitored and accessible through your smart phone and through a base station in another room. We have the pod set up on my nightstand, which illuminates in green. If there’s ever a problem, an alarm will sound and the base station will turn red. I love that I can check and see how she’s doing during nap time and view her stats for peace of mind. The base is independent of wifi, so if your phone dies, you can count on it to alert you if your baby’s rate dips too low, rises too high, or oxygen levels dip below a preset threshold.

You can check out a video of Owlet Baby Care in action here.

Owlet 3

-As you guys know, we had some pretty horrific choking incidents with the reflux. Since then, it’s been my greatest fear that P will choke during the night. This is why she’s been in the bassinet, right next to me, for so long. Now I feel like we can transition her to another room, without my anxiety driving me up the wall.

I’ve been so thankful and thrilled with the technology that I reached out to my friends at Owlet to see if they’d mind giving one away to a lucky reader. They said yes! 🙂

Ah! I am currently expecting and this would be such a great thing to have!! I spent so much of my time awake checking on my first baby that I got so little sleep and it really affected me with post baby blues! Ugh! This monitor sounds like a life saver!

I am going to be a second time mom come April, and our oldest just started sleeping in her own room with fear of these same things. I have been reading so many reviews on it, I am sold! So inspiring to read your review on it!

I would love to give this to a friend whose baby was diagnosed with Down syndrome and has a heart defect (CHD) She doesn’t sleep well at night because she is afraid something will happen to her sweet Emily. She is going to have heart surgery in a few months. This would def give her peace of mind.

I really hope this will be my lucky day with winning one of these. I’ve been eyeing them ever since I was pregnant but it’s too expensive for our family. My baby girl will be two weeks tomorrow and this would give me biggest piece of mind and calm
    My
Anxiety ESP at night when I worry about her constantly.

Expecting my first and there is no room for a crib in our room and this would give me a piece of mind as I expect to be a “working mom” after the leave. Great site! I’m glad Owlet brought me here!

I’m worried about my third baby having the same issues. I’m so sorry that you’re dealing with similiar issues with your baby girl. Hugs! It does get easier.

This would be such a blessing to our family! Our newborn baby girl spits up quite a bit and I am so worried about it at night. I am a Newborn ICU RN so I have seen some scary things which transfers into major anxiety at home. This is not something we would ever be able to afford on our own so to win something like this would be wonderful!

Hi I would love to win an owlet for the peace of mind with my infant son. I have had 2 cousins and a schoolmate lose sons to SIDS and it is a big concern and worry of mine. We have thought many times about buying one but we just cannot afford one.

  33. Jessica Beals on February 18, 2016 at 11:33 am

I am expecting another baby & through out being a mom I’ve always wanted to keep my babies close to make sure I know they’re breathing. I hear of S.I.D.S & it makes me nervous. I would love to win & give this a try & also tell everyone how my experience is & recommend this to everyone!! your baby girl is so beautiful. Happy 3 months !!

  34. Christina Wilkinson on February 18, 2016 at 11:33 am

I’m 25 weeks pregnant and my baby girl has Trisomy 18. I feel like this is the only thing that will give me peace of mind when she arrives!!!!

  35. Shae Wolett on February 18, 2016 at 11:33 am

I am expecting my third baby boy on May 1st. We have been looking into the Owlet for a couple months now. Unfortunately we aren’t able to afford it at this time because I was put on bed rest in January. No work for me! But I still talk about it and tell everyone how far we have come to have this technology in our homes!

  36. Shannon S on February 18, 2016 at 11:34 am

I would use it! My second baby was born Christmas Eve at 36.5 weeks due to me having icp (intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy). She had a little trouble breathing at first but is doing good now (except for the colic ). We have a snuza from my first daughter, but it seems to bother her stomach, so we don’t use it. I loved having the peace of mind from the snuza, but want her to not have discomfort either. We’d love an owlet so we could have that peace of mind and she’d be comfy too!

  37. Chelsee Hood on February 18, 2016 at 11:35 am

We are due with our 2nd in July and I know how amazing this product would be. I was always up with my first checking to make sure she was breathing.

    These seem AMAZING!!

  39. Carissa Ostrom on February 18, 2016 at 11:39 am

We need this! My son Clark was born with critical Aortic stenosis at just one day old. He spent 11 days at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake. He came home with a feeding tube and oxygen. He also has a pulse oximeter. This week he will be coming off oxygen and we will be loosing access to the pulse oximeter. With a child with a heart defect I already dont get a lot of sleep. My husband and I really want tge owlet. We are very poor college students going to BYU with two kids under the age of two and medical bills well beyond $200,000. We have tried to talk to owlet about having one donated but they have only offered us 10% off. We would love to have the peace of mind that our son is safe. Check out his page! https://www.facebook.com/Clarksjourney/

I am not expecting, but I do have a 3 month old. We have had a family member lose their little girl to SIDS and an acquaintance lose their little 2m old boy to SIDS aswell. I would love to win this to give me the chance to sleep. My husband and I take turns staying awake watching over baby at night. My husband would really enjoy this peace of mind and rest before heading out to work two full time jobs while I stay at home with baby.

  44. Johanna on February 18, 2016 at 11:43 am

We have a four month old and a two year old. Our two year old was born early with IUGR and I feel like I havent slept in 3 years (who sleeps well pregnant)? I would give it to my friend who had her IUGR baby yesterday so she can get more sleep than I did…
