Hobby of necessity (giveaway)
*This giveaway has ended as of 12/16 midnight. Stay tuned for more giveaways soon! Winner’s info at the bottom of this post, along with the details on the lotion bar I’m so obsessed with 🙂 Thank you so much to everyone for entering!********************************************************************
For me, there are two types of hobbies:
1.) the kind you really, really love and
2.) the necessary ones.
When I was younger, I decided I was going to knit. Some of my friends could knit, I thought it was cool and decided to give it a whirl. It lasted about 4 seconds. I have the patience of Bella waiting for chicken and knitting wasn’t something I needed a reason to do. It’s hot in Tucson and my beanies and scarves get worn about twice a year.
The hobbies I really enjoy: teaching fitness, Zumba, cooking, reading, dance, etc
Necessary hobbies: photography and scrapbooking
Photography is a necessary hobby for the blog… I don’t really like it, or know what the heck I’m doing. I take a picture in “P” mode, auto-adjust the colors if it looks weird, and post. Some people get warm and fuzzy talking about aperture and shutter speed, and alas, I am not one of them. Scrapbooking has become another necessary hobby since the Pilot has been deployed 3 times and we always make scrapbook pages, and since we have a little one on the way, I’ve taken to online scrapbooking. The day we got our maternity photos back, I made photo books for madre, nana and baby, and had them shipped out. Was it fun? Not at all. Am I glad I did it? 100%.
I could see the same thing happening with the lotion bars I was trying to figure out how to make.
I had a sliver left, needed to replenish the stash, and couldn’t get a hold of the amazing woman who makes the lotions and soaps. So, I headed to the health food store for ingredients…. and then she called me back. Thank goodness making lotion bars didn’t have to become a necessary hobby 😉
I ordered an extra one for a lucky blog friend <3
To make the giveaway a little sweeter, I’d also like to share my #1 pregnancy must-have with the winner:
A snoogle!
The bonus about this giveaway is that you don’t have to be expecting a little one to enjoy. Everyone could use a rich, buttery, lotion bar made with real ingredients and the comfiest body pillow ever invented.
Congratulations to the winner!
For those of you who were curious about the lotion, I talked to the woman who makes them today to make sure it was cool to share her info, since she doesn’t have an Etsy shop or anything like that. She makes AMAZING products (lotions and soaps) and my fave is the bitter almond lotion bar. You break off a piece, heat it up with your hands and rub it on 🙂
Here’s her email address if you’d like to order something from her:
bbilleaudeau@vtc.net
Her name is Giselle and she can ship in the US, in the winter, as the bars will melt in the summer heat.
I loovee Scrapbooking!! It’s definitely one of my favorite hobbies! And is Whole Foods grocery shopping considered a hobby? I could spend hours in there! And in Trader Joe’s! LOVE! (:
favorite hobby is reading and fave necessary hobby is grocery shopping, as annoying as it is to do every week the joy of having a fridge full of wonderful meals ready to be made is wonderful. I have no kids but I always sleep with body pillows as I like the cuddle feeling without worrying about someone who can wake me up or that I can wake up, and who doesnt love good lotion.
My favorite hobby is cake decorating! I’ve recently taken a class and I just love it! Unfortunately, it is also probably my most expensive hobby. Really hoping I will need the snoogle soon! We are going to start trying this month before hubby heads on his next deployment.
My favorite hobby is definitely reading- so relaxing! I don’t have any kids yet- maybe someday!

I love to put on my headphones & listen to my favorite music!
lately, my favorite hobby that doesn’t feel mandatory is baking. and taking way too much time reading everything at the grocery store. hahaha.
Ok so I don’t have any kids but I’m dying for a snoogle! My hobbies are pretty limited these days if I’m not doing some form of studying for nursing school 🙂 but I love trying random crafts, workouts and recipes I see on blogs or pinterest with friends 🙂
My hobbies are reading (fun!), running (when I’m not pregnant), and pretending to be a blogger (*sigh* been uninspired for a new post, so this is one of those “necessary” hobbies for now).
Due 1/6/12 as well! Good news is I hear the full moon is on the 8th; apparently it’s mysteriously common to go into labor on the full moon …
my favorite hobby is exercising! and shopping/window shopping! &my favorite necessary hobbies are (sadly) studying— although I sort-of enjoy it… 🙂
My favorite hobbies are crafting, reading, napping, cooking and playing games. My little one is going to be 3 and a half. Enjoy it…it goes by so quick!
I actually really like knitting and crocheting, just don’t always have the time. And now that I have 2 overly curious cats, I don’t see any projects that involve yarn going well for me… I am really interested in the lotion bar – I’d never heard of a lotion bar until reading your blog!
My favorite hobby is cooking – the more stressed I get as the week goes on, the more elaborate my meals get. It calms me down and makes me feel good about myself.
I would love for my new hobby to be cuddling my snoogle!
This is an *awesome* giveaway. My favorite hobbies are:
1. cooking new recipes
2. browsing hobby lobby for inspiration and craft supplies…and browsing Target!!
I would absolutely LOVE a snoogle because I currently have mono, and hope to be spending the holidays NOT under the covers. I have to stay away from my boyfriend…and it’s difficult to sleep without him! He’s almost 6’7 so it’s very hard to create a body pillow to resemble him…the snoogle looks perfect 🙂
Exercising used to be a necessary hobby, one that I despised, but now it’s my favorite past time!
Love hobbies – reading, watching trashy tv (does that count?), playing sports & painting my nails
Necessary hobbies – going to the gym & taking the finger nail polish off my nails
No kids but we are hoping!
Favorite hobby- sewing (fun hobby but it’s kind of necessary to fix things too!) and baking- which is totally not necessary!
This is awesome. I’d love to say that I’d share these with my friend who is expecting in June but maybe i would try them out and then order her a set. 🙂

I love searching for healthy recipes that I can convert to gluten/dairy free, so both my boyfriend and I can enjoy them!
Reading is definitely my favorite hobby.. I have a feeling it would be even more enjoyable with a snoogle!
I love to bake! There is nothing better that fresh baked cookies!
Favorite hobby= Baking & creating in the kitchen 8)
I have totally been horrible at crafts for the most part until I found sewing recently! I took a beginners sewing machine class and loved it, and I can’t wait to get my own machine (next week!) so I can experiment more on my own!
oh, Gina, I would LOVE to win this one! just a few days ago when you posted the photo of you with the Snoogle, Jason walked by and did a double take… and said THAT’S WHAT YOU NEED!! because I am always stealing a pillow to put on my side, because of my achey joints. 😀
my favorite hobby? photography, no doubt.
the age of my “kid”? our dachshund is 9 ! 😀
What a fun giveaway!!! My favorite hobby is yoga or reading, I’m just like you, I get interested in something like knitting (lasted long enough to make Christmas scarves for everyone one year) and then drop it. As for kids, other than our practice babies (Lhasa Poo and two kitties) I am currently in the pre-pre-conception stages with my very own Pilot (but helicopters and he’s still in-training) hubs. *fingers crossed*
see, i’m totally one of those people who loves photography as a hobby…but not as much as cooking and hiking! and due date is February 29 – not soon enough! i can’t wait to meet our little dude 🙂

Love this giveaway! I’m due January 17! 🙂
Ah…I have lots of hobbies. Dance and Zumba, photography, scrapbooking, blogging…I could go on. A necessary one what I dislike is running. 😉
My favorite hobby is running, for sure! I can’t stand scrapbooking, but feel like it’s a necessity. Such a chore for me. My kiddos are 2 1/2 and 1 1/2. Yeaaaaah, 13 months apart. FYI, exclusively BFing every 2 hours isn’t 100% birth control. 😉
My favorite hobby would have to be perusing the web! Reading blogs, online (window most of the time) shopping, and chatting with friends are just some of the things I love to do!
My necessary hobbies are studying, laundry, and checking facebook. My favorite hobbies are checking your blog, singing badly, cooking badly, and checking my family budget? I love it. My boys are 9, 7, and 2; they mostly sleep through the night, but with all three, my husband, school, and a part-time job, I would love to snuggle with that snoogle and get some rest!
Well my favorite hobby is making tie blankets, when I do it it’s not always for gifts it’s for fun and puts me in my happy place:) I also love to make scrap books and play with pictures! As you know I’m due April 8th with baby Laila! I’m getting so excited but my sleeping lately had been horrible, I try to lay on my side and still feel like my belly is getting smashed:(
Love you gina!!!! Can’t wait to meet my new cousin!!!!
Fun Hobbies: Figure skating, dance, reading
…For some reason it was really hard to think of my fun hobbies. I need to discover more now that I am newly single.
My favorite hobby is definitely music. Disregard the fact that I have a degree in music….but I love to play my guitar or piano.
As far as kids are concerned, I do not have any yet. But, I cannot wait to someday. The body pillow would be pretty awesome considering I already position pillows that way! haha. It’s an awesome and comfortable sleeping position.
Fun hobby- blog reading, of course! I actually would love to win this for my sister. She never understand why I read healthy living blogs but when I sent her the link of the post you did with video of you and the Pilot her heart must have melted! She would randomly start asking me “did you read fitnessista’s post today” and I could tell she had been converted! The best part is, she had been trying for about a year and is now due on January 7th (although I think it may be more like christmas!) She told us just a few days before you released the wonderful news of your pregnancy. There are so many similarities (she was really big on alkaline balance) and I really think you have been a huge support throughout her pregnancy. I’ve debated getting her a snuggle this whole time – partially because we both love your blog nd partially because you really make it sound so great! Id love for her to get her very own!!
I love writing poetry and reading! A good book can transport me to another world! My necessary hobby is becoming photography again to document a new phase in my life…mommy hood!
My due date is Feb 21st and this is my 1st 😉
