Hobby of necessity (giveaway)

*This giveaway has ended as of 12/16 midnight. Stay tuned for more giveaways soon! Winner’s info at the bottom of this post, along with the details on the lotion bar I’m so obsessed with ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you so much to everyone for entering!********************************************************************

For me, there are two types of hobbies:

1.) the kind you really, really love and

2.) the necessary ones.

When I was younger, I decided I was going to knit. Some of my friends could knit, I thought it was cool and decided to give it a whirl. It lasted about 4 seconds. I have the patience of Bella waiting for chicken and knitting wasnโ€™t something I needed a reason to do. Itโ€™s hot in Tucson and my beanies and scarves get worn about twice a year.

The hobbies I really enjoy: teaching fitness, Zumba, cooking, reading, dance, etc

Necessary hobbies: photography and scrapbooking

Photography is a necessary hobby for the blogโ€ฆ I donโ€™t really like it, or know what the heck Iโ€™m doing. I take a picture in โ€œPโ€ mode, auto-adjust the colors if it looks weird, and post. Some people get warm and fuzzy talking about aperture and shutter speed, and alas, I am not one of them. Scrapbooking has become another necessary hobby since the Pilot has been deployed 3 times and we always make scrapbook pages, and since we have a little one on the way, Iโ€™ve taken to online scrapbooking. The day we got our maternity photos back, I made photo books for madre, nana and baby, and had them shipped out. Was it fun? Not at all. Am I glad I did it? 100%.

I could see the same thing happening with the lotion bars I was trying to figure out how to make.

lotion bar

I had a sliver left, needed to replenish the stash, and couldnโ€™t get a hold of the amazing woman who makes the lotions and soaps. So, I headed to the health food store for ingredientsโ€ฆ. and then she called me back. Thank goodness making lotion bars didnโ€™t have to become a necessary hobby ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ordered an extra one for a lucky blog friend <3

To make the giveaway a little sweeter, Iโ€™d also like to share my #1 pregnancy must-have with the winner:

snoogle (2)

A snoogle!

The bonus about this giveaway is that you donโ€™t have to be expecting a little one to enjoy. Everyone could use a rich, buttery, lotion bar made with real ingredients and the comfiest body pillow ever invented.

Congratulations to the winner!

For those of you who were curious about the lotion, I talked to the woman who makes them today to make sure it was cool to share her info, since she doesnโ€™t have an Etsy shop or anything like that. She makes AMAZING products (lotions and soaps) and my fave is the bitter almond lotion bar. You break off a piece, heat it up with your hands and rub it on ๐Ÿ™‚

Hereโ€™s her email address if youโ€™d like to order something from her:

bbilleaudeau@vtc.net

Her name is Giselle and she can ship in the US, in the winter, as the bars will melt in the summer heat.

So fun! My favorite hobby is probably drawing. I’d love to illustrate a children’s book one day!

No little ones, but I am a live-in nanny of 5 kids! Ages: 10, 8, 5, 2, and 2 (youngest are twins, obviously). Like you said, I think both things would be great for preggers and non-preggers alike! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Susan on December 15, 2011 at 10:09 pm

My hobbies are reading, reading blogs, cooking, and dancing. If I won the snoogle…I would ask that you kindly send it to my best friend, Mary. She struggles with chronic plain, and could sure use a pick me up. What a wonderful “gift” this would be to her.

  3. Christabel on December 15, 2011 at 10:10 pm

My favorite hobbies are hiking and yoga! Followed closely by cat herding and swimming.

I am in the exciting 2 week wait period in which I get to find out if I’m pregnant. (Did IUI early last week) I have a feeling this is it! If so, my due date will be around August 29th.

I love to read, baking, and photography. I’m not great at photography, but I’m teaching myself the ins and outs of the hobby. I also enjoy running, hiking, and other fitness related activities. I’m married, but no kids yet. All my friends are taking care of that for me. We’ll have a baby when we’re ready to have one.

  5. Heather on December 15, 2011 at 10:11 pm

OMG. I seriously think I am pregnant! Taking a test in the morning, but in the mean time am frantically reading your early posts to compare all the “signs”.

Hobbies? Does blog reading count? Ha! I love strolling farmers markets and creating in the kitchen!

  9. Shaya on December 15, 2011 at 10:14 pm

My hubby and I just purchased our first ‘nice’ camera -with a big lens and things like aperture stop and shutter speed to think about- so photography will be the hobby of the new year and beyond!

  10. Erin Howard on December 15, 2011 at 10:14 pm

I couldn’t live without teaching Zumba, and I really enjoy making collages with all of my fitness and cooking magazines. I like to tear out all of the workouts so I can mix and match when creating a new workout for myself.
Unfortunately, with my husband leaving in 3 months for Army basic training, those not so fun hobbies will soon be cooking for “Erin, party of one” and taking care of EVERYTHING. Not that I truly mind since he is doing something that I couldn’t ever imagine doing, but it will take some getting used to. My furry friend will be 4 in March and being a golden retriever he will keep me SUPER busy, but I hope that within the next year I can say that a little one is on the way.

I’m due Feb 21st so my recent necessary hobby is shopping for baby. Other people enjoy it but I think it’s the pits. We’re tight on cash so I have to research what we absolutely need and how to get the best deal…it takes a long time and sorta takes the fun out of looking at all the cute stuff out there.

I joke that my hobby is life. ๐Ÿ˜‰ but in reality the hobbies I enjoy are: crafting, cooking, and working out (preferably a hot yoga class too). The hobbies that are necessary are: reading and photography. I’m much like you, one photo mode and occasional adjustments.
