Hobby of necessity (giveaway)

*This giveaway has ended as of 12/16 midnight. Stay tuned for more giveaways soon! Winner’s info at the bottom of this post, along with the details on the lotion bar I’m so obsessed with ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you so much to everyone for entering!********************************************************************

For me, there are two types of hobbies:

1.) the kind you really, really love and

2.) the necessary ones.

When I was younger, I decided I was going to knit. Some of my friends could knit, I thought it was cool and decided to give it a whirl. It lasted about 4 seconds. I have the patience of Bella waiting for chicken and knitting wasnโ€™t something I needed a reason to do. Itโ€™s hot in Tucson and my beanies and scarves get worn about twice a year.

The hobbies I really enjoy: teaching fitness, Zumba, cooking, reading, dance, etc

Necessary hobbies: photography and scrapbooking

Photography is a necessary hobby for the blogโ€ฆ I donโ€™t really like it, or know what the heck Iโ€™m doing. I take a picture in โ€œPโ€ mode, auto-adjust the colors if it looks weird, and post. Some people get warm and fuzzy talking about aperture and shutter speed, and alas, I am not one of them. Scrapbooking has become another necessary hobby since the Pilot has been deployed 3 times and we always make scrapbook pages, and since we have a little one on the way, Iโ€™ve taken to online scrapbooking. The day we got our maternity photos back, I made photo books for madre, nana and baby, and had them shipped out. Was it fun? Not at all. Am I glad I did it? 100%.

I could see the same thing happening with the lotion bars I was trying to figure out how to make.

lotion bar

I had a sliver left, needed to replenish the stash, and couldnโ€™t get a hold of the amazing woman who makes the lotions and soaps. So, I headed to the health food store for ingredientsโ€ฆ. and then she called me back. Thank goodness making lotion bars didnโ€™t have to become a necessary hobby ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ordered an extra one for a lucky blog friend <3

To make the giveaway a little sweeter, Iโ€™d also like to share my #1 pregnancy must-have with the winner:

snoogle (2)

A snoogle!

The bonus about this giveaway is that you donโ€™t have to be expecting a little one to enjoy. Everyone could use a rich, buttery, lotion bar made with real ingredients and the comfiest body pillow ever invented.

Congratulations to the winner!

For those of you who were curious about the lotion, I talked to the woman who makes them today to make sure it was cool to share her info, since she doesnโ€™t have an Etsy shop or anything like that. She makes AMAZING products (lotions and soaps) and my fave is the bitter almond lotion bar. You break off a piece, heat it up with your hands and rub it on ๐Ÿ™‚

Hereโ€™s her email address if youโ€™d like to order something from her:

bbilleaudeau@vtc.net

Her name is Giselle and she can ship in the US, in the winter, as the bars will melt in the summer heat.

My favorite hobbies include reading (usually paranormal romance, urban fantasy or sci fi, or horror) and watching movies and favorite TV shows, writing letters (pen and paper, sometimes even dip style pens), writing. One necessary hobby is also one I enjoy but are often to busy to do, so it feels like a chore – journaling. I’m not pregnant or expect to be anytime soon, but would love a snoogle and a lovely body lotion bar.

  2. Brett Marie on December 16, 2011 at 4:16 am

I am so excited about this giveaway! I’ve seen lotion bars a few times (at farmers markets, Lush, etc) but have been intimidated by them for some reason- I was never really sure what to do with them. My fave hobbies are definitely photography and scrapbooking, cooking, and TurboFire (I do it everyday so it’s a hobby, right?) My hubby and I are discussing when we want to start trying to start a family, and having the #1 Gina must-have would rock!

  3. Floey on December 16, 2011 at 4:25 am

    Swimming and writing for sure.

  4. Teri on December 16, 2011 at 4:26 am

    Hi Gina,

Well my hobby WAS soapmaking…but I wasn’t very good at it. So now I just hop over to B&BW or Crabtree & Evelyn. Sorry…no kids here. I have PCOS, but I do have a bad back after falling off my horse when I was younger. I use two pillows in between my legs to sleep. So I would LOVE to have a Snoogle!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thx Girl!

    Hi Gina,

I am addicted to your blog and check daily for updates!!! Thanks for all the wonderful info. My hobbies include cooking, baking, running, and shopping. I have a 3 year old daughter with a baby BOY on the way….due April 3rd. I could definitely use the lotion and snoogle pillow ๐Ÿ™‚ My bedtime routine with all the lotions I am putting on is ridiculous. No stretch marks the 1st time….and praying none this time around! Thanks!!!

  7. Eleonora on December 16, 2011 at 5:53 am

Hobbies of necessity…I think I don’t have any, but I love reading, climbing, hiking and swimming.

Since I live in Italy, could you please ask the lotion bar lady if there’s anything similar on this side of the pond? Or can you list the ingredients, so I can try and make one at home? I have very dry skin, and swimming twice a week in a chlorinated pool is not helping!

I love baking for people, and reading !

  22. Suzanne on December 16, 2011 at 7:14 am

My hobby of choice is actually knitting. I love it. I think having a good instructor determines everything.
My friend at work is a knitting master and it was great having him to go to every time I messed up.
Now I am able to fix most mistakes myself due to his excellent teaching skills. I’ve knitted so many items over the years and given away many as gifts. I love it when I see someone wearing my gift or requesting another one. The cutest thing i have made have to be teeny tiny socks and hat for my friend’s preemie. Me in a yarn store = kid in a candy store. ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe you just need a good teacher to rekindle the knitting bug in you? ๐Ÿ˜‰

My necessary hobby would be cooking. I really dislike it. I wish I liked it, but it’s just something I have to do because I want to feed healthy food to my husband and myself.

  23. JennP on December 16, 2011 at 7:19 am
