Hobby of necessity (giveaway)

*This giveaway has ended as of 12/16 midnight. Stay tuned for more giveaways soon! Winner’s info at the bottom of this post, along with the details on the lotion bar I’m so obsessed with ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you so much to everyone for entering!********************************************************************

For me, there are two types of hobbies:

1.) the kind you really, really love and

2.) the necessary ones.

When I was younger, I decided I was going to knit. Some of my friends could knit, I thought it was cool and decided to give it a whirl. It lasted about 4 seconds. I have the patience of Bella waiting for chicken and knitting wasnโ€™t something I needed a reason to do. Itโ€™s hot in Tucson and my beanies and scarves get worn about twice a year.

The hobbies I really enjoy: teaching fitness, Zumba, cooking, reading, dance, etc

Necessary hobbies: photography and scrapbooking

Photography is a necessary hobby for the blogโ€ฆ I donโ€™t really like it, or know what the heck Iโ€™m doing. I take a picture in โ€œPโ€ mode, auto-adjust the colors if it looks weird, and post. Some people get warm and fuzzy talking about aperture and shutter speed, and alas, I am not one of them. Scrapbooking has become another necessary hobby since the Pilot has been deployed 3 times and we always make scrapbook pages, and since we have a little one on the way, Iโ€™ve taken to online scrapbooking. The day we got our maternity photos back, I made photo books for madre, nana and baby, and had them shipped out. Was it fun? Not at all. Am I glad I did it? 100%.

I could see the same thing happening with the lotion bars I was trying to figure out how to make.

lotion bar

I had a sliver left, needed to replenish the stash, and couldnโ€™t get a hold of the amazing woman who makes the lotions and soaps. So, I headed to the health food store for ingredientsโ€ฆ. and then she called me back. Thank goodness making lotion bars didnโ€™t have to become a necessary hobby ๐Ÿ˜‰

I ordered an extra one for a lucky blog friend <3

To make the giveaway a little sweeter, Iโ€™d also like to share my #1 pregnancy must-have with the winner:

snoogle (2)

A snoogle!

The bonus about this giveaway is that you donโ€™t have to be expecting a little one to enjoy. Everyone could use a rich, buttery, lotion bar made with real ingredients and the comfiest body pillow ever invented.

Congratulations to the winner!

For those of you who were curious about the lotion, I talked to the woman who makes them today to make sure it was cool to share her info, since she doesnโ€™t have an Etsy shop or anything like that. She makes AMAZING products (lotions and soaps) and my fave is the bitter almond lotion bar. You break off a piece, heat it up with your hands and rub it on ๐Ÿ™‚

Hereโ€™s her email address if youโ€™d like to order something from her:

bbilleaudeau@vtc.net

Her name is Giselle and she can ship in the US, in the winter, as the bars will melt in the summer heat.

  10. Marie-Sophie on December 16, 2011 at 10:22 am

One of my friends SWEARS by this pillow … and the funny thing is that her husband actually stole that snoogle from her when she was pregnant! ๐Ÿ™‚ She had to fight big time to get it back each time ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am not expecting yet but I’d love to within the next two years … Okay so my “fun hobbies” are baking, yoga and reading (circuit training is becoming more popular – and I am going to join a gym next week that has Zumba so I am excited to try that!). The “necessary hobbies” are learning to love cooking more (I am just more of a baking girl) and cleaning. I absolutely love a clean flat or an organized place – but to do it or actually keep it that way, that’s hard (especially when you’ve got a lovely but very messy boyfriend). I now check your blog every day, impatiently waiting for the little lady’s arrival ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Jen Correa @ Mom's Gotta Run on December 16, 2011 at 10:23 am

You seriously have the best give aways ever! I love to read – I know, I’m a loser, but it’s seriously my favorite. I guess I’d say that cooking/baking is my necessary one, because I go back and forth between loving it and being annoyed with doing it. Um, but eating is both a necessary and awesome/fun hobby! ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Debbie (Accidently Delish) on December 16, 2011 at 10:26 am

    Due Date:
May 30- and my belly is itching like craaaazzzzy! Also, I can’t find my boppy preggo pillow from last time- it’s buried somewhere in my storage unit- so this giveaway was calling my name!

I don’t really have any hobbies, though I have tried knitting a million times and just can’t get into it. I was hoping the thought of wrapping my little one in homemade hats and booties would inspire me, but I’m almost 7 months along and still no hand-knit goodies!

My favourite hobbies are knitting and jewellery making, I could do them all day! I would say the necessary hobby that I don’t so much look forward to is exercise. I always am so glad I did it after I’m done, but I don’t look forward to it very often. It’s something I’m working on though!

  38. Ashley on December 16, 2011 at 11:21 am

Favorite hobbies include: playing guitar, running, scrapbooking! Where I used to live there was a “snip till you snap” class that was so fun to do with friends! You’d go from 6-10pm, you could bring wine, use their stencils/stamps/dye cuts (buy or bring your own paper, stickers, etc.) and just hang out with your girlfriends all night. So fun!

  39. Lauren R. on December 16, 2011 at 11:23 am

Favorite fun hobby for me is hands down, vintage shopping. I regularly block off whole Saturday mornings to shop-hop and find treasures. A necessity hobby I’ve developed over the past few years is crafting – in college, I had no money for birthday or Christmas gifts, so I started making them. I’m not in college anymore, but I’m still broke, so the hobby has remained.

I have no kids and I’m not expecting… but the Snoogle looks amazing! ๐Ÿ™‚

Does hiking count as a hobby? If so, that’s my favorite, followed by scrapbooking…the perfect way to document our backcountry adventures. Hopefully very soon I’ll get to scrapbook a different kind of little bundle of adventure, so I would LOVE the snoogle and body bar!

  43. courtney @ cupcakedynamite on December 16, 2011 at 11:26 am

My newest hobby is bike riding in Central Park, love it! While I am not actually expecting, my sister is expecting her first little boy in April! I can’t wait to be an Aunt and I know she’d love these gifts! I actually sent her the link to your blog on a few occasions (like revealing the sex with the cupcakes!), and literally JUST sent her a link to snoogle and said you highly recommend!

  47. Yvette on December 16, 2011 at 11:29 am

Hobbies — cooking for sure. Very basic sewing — pillows, hems, etc. — but I enjoy it. Just got back from Hawaii and brought back some fabric I am going to attempt to make a duvet cover and pillow shams with. And absolutely reading. No due date but we do have a fur baby named Chance. The shelter told us he was 6 or 7 when we adopted him — but out vet thinks he is at least ten. We tease him about lying about his age.
