Just say “spa”

Hi friends! Happy humpday! I woke up feeling super sore this morning. I couldn’t decide if it was the squat clean and jerks or the bowling.

Bowling

Yep, definitely the bowling.

Bowling2

Bowling3

We also enjoyed a delicious dinner last night:

Herbs 1 of 1 3

Eggplant 1 of 1

Salmon 1 of 1 8

Salmon and veg 1 of 1 2

Smashed potato 1 of 1

(lavender and honey salmon, sauteed eggplant and zucchini with basil and rosemary, and smashed potatoes)

We’re on a mission to tackle some fun(ish?) projects while the Pilot is home this week. Organizing around the house,

Curtains 1 of 1

curtains are up (!),

and he’s working on one of those fun activity boards for Liv. I’ll post the pics when it’s finished, but here’s the post that inspired it.

Activity board 1 of 1

I’ve mentioned it before, but I had no idea the Pilot was so handy until we moved into our house. Since we’d always rented, we couldn’t do any big projects and if something was broken, the office sent maintenance to fix it. Apparently he’s a secret handyman (I hear it’s common among military men). I like to tinker around with little things -I can hammer, caulk and build basic things- but my philosophy is if the Pilot likes it and is great at it, why get in his way? Right? Riiiiight.

Since I had a feeling he’d be spending his week of leave working, just at a different location, I booked him a spa day. Madre was still planning on coming over to stay with Liv -Liv loves her nana days- so I figured it would be awesome to get the Pilot access to some classes, spa services and we could have a nice lunch together on property. I told him that even if he doesn’t take a single class and lounges by the pool all day, it will still be worth it and he can enjoy a little R&R.

I may also be trying to convince him to take my Zumba class 😉

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

Please let me know if you’d like an August workout calendar. I can post it with Friday Faves to start on Sunday.

xoxo

Haha, bowling can definitely cause some soreness;) I was really sad when they got rid of the bowling alley where I live. Like we seriously don’t even have one, it’s kind of weird.
That’s so sweet you booked him a little spa day after all his hard work.

  2. Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat on July 31, 2013 at 11:16 am

I haven’t been bowling in SO long, but I remember feeling sore afterwards. Guess it’s quite a workout!

That’s so nice you booked your hubby a spa day. It sounds like a perfect way to spend the day!

  3. Liz on July 31, 2013 at 11:16 am

    I wish my man was a spa go-er! 🙂

An August workout calendar sounds great! I need to switch things up a little and a calendar may hold me accountable!

  4. Sara @ LovingOnTheRun on July 31, 2013 at 11:19 am

I dont’t think i could ever talk my husband into taking a Zumba class – but good luck! 🙂 That dinner does look delicious! I love stay at home vacations sometimes because you get so much work done! I am already looking forward to the weekend to catch up on things!

  5. Brianna on July 31, 2013 at 11:19 am

Gina, I would especially love a new, total-body circuit workout for August! I’ve been repeating many of your SSU and WSU workouts, and they’re awesome – your combos of strength/plyo/cardio/abs are very effective!

  6. Megan on July 31, 2013 at 11:21 am

I always get sore after bowling! But it’s so much fun. I am awful at it, but we have a ton of fun together, laughing at my gutter balls, and being silly.

  7. Emily @ The Good Era on July 31, 2013 at 11:21 am

That is so sweet!!! I booked my husband a surprise massage after a stressful day as a surprise and he when he found out it wasn’t a couples massage, just for him, he wouldn’t go! haha I say, more massages for me 🙂

    Enjoy your lunch date!

Would love an August workout calendar!

Where’d you find your curtains? That’s next on my home project to-do list!

  9. Ali @ Peaches and Football on July 31, 2013 at 11:23 am

It’s pretty amazing how sore you can get from bowling – I guess you only use those muscles, that way, when chucking the ball down the lane right? 🙂

Hurray for vacation and home projects. The curtains look great. Enjoy your time to get some stuff done around the house.

I’m a fan of your salmon meals, I’m not very inventive in the kitchen, especially with vegetables, so I’m loving when you post your dinners- keep em coming please! thank you.

Please, please, please post an August workout calendar! 😀 I just finished cycling through SSU’13 for the second time, and now that I am on my own again I am struggling with what to do…a calendar would definitely help arrange and keep me accountable!

  13. Paula on July 31, 2013 at 11:30 am

This makes me want to take some days off work too! 🙂

I would loooooove an August workout calendar! I’m pretty clueless about how to organize an effective workout so your help would be greatly appreciated.

This is my 3rd year teaching Zumba and I still can’t get my guy to take one of my classes or even practice at home with me, so good luck. And if he does agree, I’m jealous 🙂

I have a very handy husband too – the hard part is getting him to actually to DO the tasks I need done. 😉 I can do simple things, but I’d rather not if he can. That sounds horrible, but it’s the truth!

  42. Christina R on July 31, 2013 at 9:22 pm

  43. Gina @ Health, Love, and Chocolate on July 31, 2013 at 9:43 pm

  44. Suzi @ Confessions of a Fitness Instructor on July 31, 2013 at 10:53 pm

I was SO sore the weekend we got our Wii because we had like a 10 hour bowling marathon!

I’ve tried to convince J to come to my yoga classes (because he keeps saying he wants to do it – but I guess just not around “people”) but I don’t think I could handle having him in Zumba. He was one of my “participants” when I did my fitness instructor practical exam and he was so serious the whole time it was all I could do not to laugh at him!!

  45. Yolande on July 31, 2013 at 10:58 pm

I love your theory on if the hubby’s are good at the handy work, why get in the way 😉 I made a deal with the bf when we moved into our most recent place, if I keep a kept home (cook, organize, laundry etc) he is I’m charge of the dirty work – garbage and any house related projects that involve tools that I do not know how to use ha ha! He seems to like the agreement so far and it works for us 🙂 and you are such a nice wife booking a spa day, so thoughtful.

  46. Fernanda Rozindo on August 1, 2013 at 6:12 am

Yessss to the August workout calender! Always nice to have one! =) =)

Spa days are amazing!! Can’t wait to get around planning another one with the girls =) (my husband isn’t at all a spa go’er).
