Not Your Standard Egg Hunt

Hi friends 🙂 How has your day been?

While many of you were hunting for Easter eggs, I was participating in a more non-traditional Easter activity:

Curling a mannequin named Didi’s hair 😉

didi

The Easter bunny brought me a new styling wand. It’s the new kind I’ve been lusting over- the barrel rotates so you don’t have to twist the whole thing. Curling my hair usually gives me wicked hand cramps, since my hair is super thick, and I was blown away by how easy it was to use.

wand

My mom has a few mannequin heads –she’s a stylist, not a weirdo haha- and brought out our model, Didi

didi (2)

and gave me a tutorial on how to use it.

Once I’ve practiced on myself a few times, I’ll totally make a video. We curled the entire mannequin’s hair in about 15 minutes.. and then she was sassy and ready for a night out 😉

This morning was a little more on the traditional side-

we enjoyed a beautiful brunch al fresco at my nana’s house 😀

outside

She always makes an incredible spread, and while I love all of her cooking so much, her breakfast is my favorite 🙂

Egg casserole with green chilies and salsa, ham, sausage, apple puff pancakes with fresh whipped cream and maple syrup

brunch

Potatoes, biscuits, ham quiche

Fresh fruit and gooey homemade sticky buns:

and the best part: the dessert table.

Coconut cake, rocky road brownies, cranberry cheesecake, cherry chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, and peach cobbler with fresh whipped cream.

I die.

I wait for her egg casserole all year. It will blow your mind.

It was great to catch up with the fam, feast on delicious food, and snuggle with my baby cousin and the puppies that were there. Everyone on my dad’s side of the family has a white dog! Usually I bring Bella, but today she hung out my my madre’s house.

Sammie, my nana’s Westie:

me

After brunch with Dad’s side of the fam, we came over to the madre’s, played with new styling wand and went to visit our great grandmother. Now we’re ready to eat again and are figuring out dinner plans 🙂

It was a lovely Easter, but the one thing that would have made it better would be if that one guy was here with me 😉

Hope you enjoy the rest of your day and I’ll see ya in the morning!

xoxo

Oh my gosh, I LOVE Sammie! What an awesome Westie! My mom has wanted a westie for years. I’m intrigued by the curling iron. I don’t need to curl my hair – mine is curly whether I like it or not! – but I still like gadgets.

Also, I love your cardigan! It is so cute! Do you mind sharing where you purchased it? 🙂

Happy Easter Gina! Sounds like an awesome family day. It’s so great having ‘most’ of your family all in one town/state. We had brunch with my inlaws and then an egg hunt at the park, followed by some baseball practice! Fun times

“Coconut cake, rocky road brownies, cranberry cheesecake, cherry chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, and peach cobbler with fresh whipped cream.”—

    WOW!!!!!

The egg casserole too…glad you got your feast on after waiting all year for it!

The curling iron…I have friends who’ve told me about that. Can’t wait to see more or a video of it in action. Glad it was so easy for you. And I take it no issues curling your own hair even after your keratin treatment. I have a brazilian blowout so never even attempt to curl my hair but good to know you can go curly, if desired.

    Happy Easter!

Aside from the fact that AZ is absolutely beautiful (as evidenced in the photo of your nana’s backyard) and the fact that the dry climate is great for the HairStylez, I can see why you were so eager to move back to Tucson. It’s so awesome that you are surrounded by so much loving family. I know you said your friends were great, but it’s never the same as being surrounded by those you love most. It’s obvious by that beaming glow you have had on your face ever since you moved back home that it’s where you belong. OH and that brunch looks amazing – your nana could put professional caterers to shame!

    • Fitnessista on April 25, 2011 at 1:01 am

she and my aunt used to own a catering business back in the day- they’re like martha stewarts 🙂
you’re totally right.. i couldn’t be more happy to be home again. thank you <3

What’s the pink top you are wearing? It looks awesome! Where did you get it from?

    • Fitnessista on April 25, 2011 at 1:10 am

thanks! it’s a cardigan from new york and company. i don’t ever go in there, but went to get a gift for my mom, and LOVED their sweaters

  33. ari on April 25, 2011 at 2:22 am

she literally cooked all that food herself? that must have taken like a week.

  34. Fitnessista on April 25, 2011 at 2:48 am

Yup- she used to own a catering business, so it probably didn’t take her nearly as long as it would have taken for me to do that!

    • Katherine: Unemployed on April 25, 2011 at 6:53 am

seriously!? you have a caterer and a hair dresser in your family!? and you’re fitnessista! what a great array of tallents

  35. Tasha @ Voracious on April 25, 2011 at 3:41 am

Sammie is the cutest! What a face! And wow, what an incredible brunch your grandma prepared! You are so lucky, there is nothing like granny food, is there? Especially that dessert plate, I think I’d need at least 3 or 4 of everything just to tide me over. Delicious!

  36. healthy amy on April 25, 2011 at 3:52 am

Wow – the photo of the breakfast spread really made my mouth water – i wish the UK would catch on to having amazing breakfasts like that – yummy!

  37. Gina B on April 25, 2011 at 5:25 am

Isn’t it amazing that you can live for years without someone, and are “fine”, and then after you have them in your life, even the greatest of days are missing something when he’s not there. My fiance is away, and all day yesterday there was just something off 🙁 It’s a bittersweet feeling. How lucky to have someone that makes missing them so hard!

  38. Cathy on April 25, 2011 at 5:53 am

what a beautiful house your nana has! looks like you all had a wonderful – and delicious! – time. too fun that you rec’d an easter present – we still did easter bunny hunts until just a couple years ago! 🙂
i hope NEXT easter you and the pilot will be together!
