Pickles and Chocolate

Hi friends 😀 How was your day? Mine was a doozy, but bueno- I’m just now getting home from 8am this morning. The couch feels very nice 🙂

Work was a lot of fun today- I got to assist two dance classes

saw a baby bunny

photo (76)

and got to hit up Eegee’s on my lunch break:

photo (75)

It’s BLAZING hot already (in the 100s) and a kid’s strawberry-lemon eegee was just what I wanted 🙂

More recent eats:

Smooooooothie

smoothie

-frozen organic strawberries

-organic nanner and handful of spinach

-raw cacao powder

-1/2 pack of Vega smoothie infusion (I’m out of Sun Warrior –still!- so Vega is my second fave)

-1.5 C almond milk

Pickles and chocolate!!

lunch

Wouldn’t that be a fun name for a maternity store? You can steal it, haha.

It’s funny to post my eats right now since I haven’t been wanting vegetables AT ALL, but here’s what was in today’s lunch:

-pickles (of course)

-salt and vinegar pop chips (which aren’t nearly as delicious as the kettle kind)

-gluten-free bagel with goat cream cheese

-baby organic apricots

-hard ginger candies (for nausea)

and my new obsession:

lunch (2)

Vosges. How did I live without it for so long? I had my first bar in Vegas and life hasn’t been the same since.

I didn’t realize until this morning that each of the mini bars were $4 that I bought.. for no kidding two bites of chocolate. It’s golden, really 🙂

To be honest, it’s been interesting to just go with the flow and eat what my body has been craving instead of what I usually enjoy (like salads, roasted veggies and quinoa dishes). I’m just gonna roll with it and hope that normalcy sets in one of these days. In the meantime I’ll be eating copious amounts of salt and vinegar chips I guess.

Bed is screaming my name 🙂

xoxo

Gina

PS. It’s a full moon! Anyone else having crazy dreams?! I had an insane one yesterday- there’s an upcoming family post about it haha.

I love Vosges! They have them in the WF here. My fav is the red pepper, but the bacon is close second. Bacon and Chocolate would be a stand-out maternity store name too. 🙂

  2. Kilee on June 17, 2011 at 1:06 am

I was actually surprised that nothing crazy happened at work today with the full moon. I’d just keep going along with your random food cravings. You’ll probably never have them again after this, so just enjoy them! Have a good night and rest up for tomorrow 🙂

  3. Stefanie @thenewhealthy on June 17, 2011 at 1:14 am

Crazy dreams? Yes! But then again I always have them so maybe the full moon is not to blame! 😉

  4. Abby on June 17, 2011 at 1:28 am

Yes! The other night I had a dream that I got in a fist fight with an old man at Kath’s bakery and he chased me out of the store!

  5. mi-an on June 17, 2011 at 2:03 am

I’ve never heard of Vosges chocolate!! It better be epicly (is that a word?) GOOD for $4 a pop!!

  6. Ellie@fitforthesoul on June 17, 2011 at 2:05 am

LOL yes that’s an ingenius catchy name! “Pickles and Chocolate”….I think it would be rather successful 😛

  7. Kristin on June 17, 2011 at 2:28 am

That explains it! I’ve been having crazy dreams the last couple days, about a specific person that hasn’t entered my dreams in at least 6 months.

  8. Lindsay Loves Veggies on June 17, 2011 at 3:00 am

It is totally weird to see you without your usual pile of veggies in front of you! I think it’s cool that you’re just going with your cravings instead of forcing yourself to eat things you don’t want to. 🙂

  9. Kapri on June 17, 2011 at 3:36 am

I must say that bagel looks REALLY yummy, that was the first thing that caught my eye! I havent had a bagel in a long..long time=(

I also always see random bunnies where i live at night. There was this one bunny that would come out & sit right in front of my window, every night, around 1am.

  10. Ashley on June 17, 2011 at 4:24 am

A full moon brings crazy dreams?! I’ve never heard that before but that could explain the dream I had about cockroaches all over my body and my fiance pulling them off one by one. I woke up in a panic…so scary!!!

  11. Brooke on June 17, 2011 at 5:59 am

Could be the moon but also pregnancy! With all my pregnancy I had a period from the first to second trimester with CRAZY and vivid dreams. It is actually a normal thing for some women to experience and has to do with those lovely hormones controlling the show yet again. Hope you have lots of good dreams if its related.

Pickles and chocolate sound good to me too at the moment – but no, there’s nothing to tell!! 😉

  13. Allison on June 17, 2011 at 6:09 am

I LOVE salt and vinegar kettle chips!!! i’ll eat the salt and vinegar and the salt and cracked petter at the same time:):)

Vosgos really are the most amazing bars!! A few semesters ago, one of the girls in my photography class gave me some of her chili bar and it was beyond divine and i have been hooked ever since!!

  14. Katie on June 17, 2011 at 6:24 am

I’m 21 weeks and I couldn’t stand vegetables (especially salads…even just looking at salad greens in the grocery store brought me to gagging more than once) unless they were in soup form from weeks 6-12. After that, I could tolerate vegetables, but they still sometimes made me gag. But now I’m craving cold salads like a fiend and have been eating at least one giant salad a day…I figure I’m making up for all the veggies we missed during those rough 6 weeks. 🙂

  15. ellalinea on June 17, 2011 at 6:26 am

i have crazy dreams each and every night:
    – me flying
    – being hunted by a murderer
    – being pregnant
    – being sick and always fainting
    – losing someone I love
    – falling on the runway ( that’s really a big fear of mine haha :D)

    I’m weird I know 😉

  16. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on June 17, 2011 at 6:51 am

Pickles and chocolate!! = My husband does advertising for baby and maternity stores and franchises and one of the stores he used to work with was called Pickles & Ice Cream. In Nashville. Small world, Heab’s has blogged about it.

Full moon… YES! I posted about it yesterday. It’s in FULL effect <—pun intended 🙂

I dont buy Vosges for the very reason you outlined, 2 bites, not worth it$$

I LOVE that pic of the bunny. One of my fave pics you've posted in a long time…that is SUCH a great shot, Gina 🙂

  17. Lisa on June 17, 2011 at 7:00 am

I did a yoga workshop once that was called Yoga and Chocolate…and we did a vosges tasting (the yoga instructor was friends with the lady who “invented” vosges). I won’t lie…the bacon/chocolate combo *might* have been my favorite!

  18. Holly @ The Runny Egg on June 17, 2011 at 7:33 am

I remember reading HEAB’s blog when she was pregnant – and she was eating poptarts and I just thought that was so hilarious, but I remember things settling down for her too, so I’m sure you’ll be back to your normal eats in no time.

    • Fitnessista on June 17, 2011 at 11:50 am

      i hope so!

  19. Paige @Running Around Normal on June 17, 2011 at 7:38 am

The salt and vinegar popchips are amazing! I’ve never tried the Kettle kind, though.

LOL – can’t wait to hear about this dream 😛

  20. Kate Harts on June 17, 2011 at 7:42 am

Pickles and Ice Cream is in Austin too! How cute! I picked up some baby apricots at the farmers market this week and can’t wait to eat them!

  21. Stephanie @cookinfanatic on June 17, 2011 at 7:51 am

There is a store by me called pickles and ice cream lol too funny!!! I had no idea it was a full moon but that would explain why I dreamt last night that I had a child with my crazy ex boyfriend ummmm….?? Happy Friday!

  22. Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me on June 17, 2011 at 7:59 am

haha pickles and chocolate would be a super cute store name!

I slept like total crap last night. Maybe it was the moon! 😉

  23. Lindsay on June 17, 2011 at 8:00 am

I had the craziest dream last night!!! That must be why. I’ve only had Vosges at the Chicago store (like every time I’m there haha) and I didn’t know that they sold it outside of the stores… but then I saw people telling you to check WF and while I knew mine didn’t have it… I found a store within walking distance of my apartment that sells it!!!!! All this time it was right down the street 🙂

  24. Carie on June 17, 2011 at 8:06 am

I think your lunch looks fab and I haven’t been preggo in 6 years and don’t plN to ever be again!

  25. beth on June 17, 2011 at 8:10 am

I’m 9 weeks pregnant, and vegetables (which normally I eat by the pound!) make me gag! Bah. I’m hoping this goes away by trimester #2. And I have been dreaming odd dreams, too . . . ! 😀

  26. Alicia @ This Organic Body on June 17, 2011 at 8:16 am

The no veg thing sounds almost to familiar. I seriously didn’t eat a salad for the first and send trimester. The sound of a salad made me sick!! P

  27. Shayla on June 17, 2011 at 8:20 am

It’s so weird when I have crazy dreams and I wake up feeling like they were real!!

Question – what happened to your family post about the methods you did to help you get pregnant? I don’t see it up anymore? Thanks! 🙂

  28. char @ char on a mission on June 17, 2011 at 8:28 am

I hope pickles are with every meal because how can you not love pickles…are we speaking dill here? That really IS golden chocolate…you better not let that stuff go!

    • Fitnessista on June 17, 2011 at 11:49 am

      yes DILL. so good.

  29. Dawn on June 17, 2011 at 8:33 am

When I was pregnant I would eat strawberry ice cream, pickles and pringles sour cream and onion chips all together…the strange things we eat when we are pregnant…lol

  30. Monika on June 17, 2011 at 8:33 am

I’ve been having crazy dreams too- wonder if it’s cause of the moon!!

  31. Hannah on June 17, 2011 at 8:37 am

so crazy– didnt even realize the full moon but I have been having crazy dreams all week.. !!

  32. Jackie on June 17, 2011 at 8:38 am

love vosges. my favorites are the matcha one and the curry one. such a different mix of flavors, but still so good.

  33. Jenna on June 17, 2011 at 8:42 am

The barbecue pop chips are definitely the best kind! As for crazy dreams, I had a doozy last night. I dreamed that (for some reason) I had to kill all of my cats and they kind of sizzled away like it was the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Needless to say, I woke up more than a little freaked out.

  34. kate on June 17, 2011 at 8:46 am

I loveee those chocolate bars we buy them all the time I like the one with cayenne!

  35. Katie on June 17, 2011 at 9:02 am

There is a Vosges less than 2 blocks from my apartment…it’s dangerous stuff 🙂

I love the assortment of foods that you are craving right now….I actually crave pickles all the time and I’m not even pregnant so I always wonder if I’m going to basically live off of pickles once I am haha.

I have been having crazy dreams all week! no idea full moon caused those, but I’m glad I know now!

  36. Katherine: Unemployed on June 17, 2011 at 9:09 am

    I always have crazy dreams…

…there is the CUTEST store (wish it wasn’t maternity haha) called “pickles and ice cream”; precious!…

  37. KVF on June 17, 2011 at 9:18 am

    Hi Gina!

I think something may have happened with your family posts, some of them aren’t showing up anymore. I have loved reading all of your posts about the pregnancy. My husband and I have been trying for almost a year and a half with no success yet. We are going through fertility treatments now, and I have been using all of your tips (pineapple, tea, sunflower seeds). We are really hoping for good news soon! Congratulations to you and the Pilot!!

  39. Sam on June 17, 2011 at 9:25 am

Heyy I totally had a crazy dream last night too! I can’t rememeber what it was though 😛 It’s actually why I got out of bed…didn’t want to continue it! That’s crazy expensive for that chocolate….must be REALLY good 🙂

  40. Jocelyn on June 17, 2011 at 9:31 am

I have dreams about TV shows, mostly prison break, I’m obsessed.

Just FYI, that bunny isn’t a baby 🙂 Once a rabbit has its eyes open and ears up, momma bunny leaves and they are considered “adults” in the animal world, fully self-sufficient. Alot of small rabbits that look like babies actually, aren’t, its a common misconception. Also, people often mistake younger rabbits for orphans because “mom is missing”, when in reality the momma rabbit avoids the nest to prevent predators from finding them. They are always near by, and only come to feed the little ones at dawn and dusk. You would never know they are there! I am a wildlife rehabilitator, and I see alot of rabbit patients!

  41. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on June 17, 2011 at 9:47 am

The full moon is gorgeous! I haven’t had any weird dreams though.
Salt & vinegar chips are my absolute favorite flavor, I say roll with it 🙂

  42. Jess on June 17, 2011 at 9:49 am

This has been the craziest dream week in a while! Haha or maybe since the last full moon. I think the craziest was hurrying trying to figure out what the hell to wear as baby tornados approached. No one else seemed worried and just wanted me to freaking get dressed! I have way more anxiety dreams about getting dressed than I do about being naked.

  43. April on June 17, 2011 at 9:50 am

    I must try that chocolate!!!!!
Ah, i am sure your cravings for veggies will come back in the second ‘tri’, that is what happend to me….it was so strange to not want my usual foods, but like you said, fun to just roll with what you are craving, when else do we do that? So fun!!!!!! I also didn’t crave fruit at ALL, but now that is all i want:)

  44. Marissa on June 17, 2011 at 9:56 am

I saw a baby bunny on my morning walk today, too! Wish I had had my camera with me; so precious! I think I must be the only weird one in the world… ginger actually GIVES me a bellyache, instead of making one feel better! Peppermint helps, though.

  45. Donna @ Love, Run & Travel on June 17, 2011 at 10:16 am

Full moon definitely brings out the crazies at my work!
    Love the random eats 🙂

  46. Meghan @ StruggleMuffins on June 17, 2011 at 10:17 am

I’ve purposely stayed away from Vosges because I have a sneaking suspicion I’ll love it and have to have it all.the.time. My taste buds would be happy but my wallet would be less than pleased.

    • Fitnessista on June 17, 2011 at 11:47 am

it’s an expensive habit, for sure 🙂

  47. Nicole on June 17, 2011 at 10:19 am

I had my little one at the beginning of May and couldn’t eat any veggies for the 1st trimester. I’m a huge salad eater and the thought of eating lettuce/spinach made me sick to my stomach. It was so crazy! I had nauseau for most of my 1st trimester and would only get it in the evening time. The ginger candies/tea never seemed to work, however my co-worker (I work in a cardiology office) mentioned that when she used to work in oncology, they would recommend grape-flavored Gatorade to their patients who were nauseated during chemo. I swear it worked, or not sure if mentally I made it work, but it’s worth a try, especially since they now make Gatorade without HFCS. Good luck.

  48. Megan on June 17, 2011 at 10:20 am

Definitely have to eat what you’re craving, I’m sure the love of vegetables will return with full force soon. Those apricots look yummy!

  49. lightlygildedlily on June 17, 2011 at 10:22 am

Im not even preggo but i eat pickles by the jarful
    and ginger.
    Weird? 😉

  50. suzi on June 17, 2011 at 10:24 am

I agree salt and vinegar pop chips aren’t as yummy as kettle chips, but baby the sour cream and onion pop chips are crazy yummy!

Looks like your nails are really holding up well – do you find that those stay on longer than regular old nail polish?
