Surprise party… at your house!

There’s no way I could write about my many fails and screw-ups on the blog. A couple of reasons for this: some are far more noteworthy than others (no one wants to read “guys, I broke my toe… again!”) and this blog would quickly become The Failure-ista. The funny thing is that they seem to happen way more often since I gave birth to my brain a little over a year ago.

Yesterday’s fail, though… too good to not share. I’m still blushing about it.

Shamrocks 1 of 1

In the afternoon, the Pilot, Liv and I left for a birthday party at our friends’ house. Their son turned 2 and we’ve been friends with them since we moved to Tucson.

We arrived at their street about 20 minutes after the party was supposed to start, and as usual, the street was packed with cars. While the Pilot parked, we were talking about how they always have awesome parties and do it up big, with a lot of guests (I think last time the whole squadron was there).

We got Liv out of the car, and walked towards the house with blue balloons on the mailbox. When we got to the door, we knocked a couple of times and went inside.

In the foyer, quite a few women were sitting and eating cake. Even though I didn’t recognize them, I said, “Hi!” and Livi waved while we walked into the kitchen.

It was the wrong kitchen.

It was the wrong house.

WE WENT TO A PARTY IN THE WRONG HOUSE.

In the kitchen, a girl introduced herself and the Pilot and I looked at each other and busted out laughing. We told them what happened, apologized, said congratulations to them (it was a baby shower, not a birthday party!) and walked to the RIGHT house, which was two doors down.

It gets better from here.

When we get to our friends’, the husband was in the backyard taking the trash out.

“Hey guys, how’s it going?”

“Oh my god, you won’t believe this… we just went to the wrong party!”

We told him the story about what happened, and he got a pretty good laugh out of it.

Then he said, “Well what are you up to here?”

“Um, we’re here for Ben’s party.”

“Oh, that’s next weekend, the 10th.”

Holy hell.

So there ya go. We went to the wrong house for the wrong party on the wrong day. At least we got a good laugh out of it 😉

Then, since we were counting on having birthday cake, we went to Starbucks for drinks and sweets.

The end.

Any good fails lately?

Will I ever find my brain again? Does it get worse with two kids?!

  5. Running Betty on March 4, 2013 at 4:27 pm

    wow, talk about baby brain!
I walked in on my daughter and her boyfriend kissing last weekend… but it was the living room when the whole family was home, so I don’t think that was *MY* fail!

  6. Alexandra on March 4, 2013 at 4:32 pm

The part that I love best about this is Liv waving hello. haha- I can picture the scene perfectly in my head. This is a great story!

  8. Rebecca @ Runner with an Appetite on March 4, 2013 at 4:35 pm

Too funny! A surprise party for my dad was ruined that way once. A friend showed up a week early with chips and dip in hand. My dad pretty quickly figured out what was up…

  9. Jennifer on March 4, 2013 at 4:36 pm

Haha… I don’t think I’ll ever get back my pre-pregancy brain. My daughter will be five this year and I forget things ALL the time! Thank you for the laugh! Good to know I’m not alone. 🙂

Oh man, my fog brain is going to get worse when I have kids. I am always so scattered on things. That’s why I keep my day planner in my purse at all times and have to write things down immediately.

That is a funny story though. At least you can laugh about it 🙂

  12. Sara @ Magia e Pasta on March 4, 2013 at 4:51 pm

So, so funny. Thank you for letting us laugh at your expense (sorry!)! We have all been there though, you’re not alone.

  19. Jasmine on March 4, 2013 at 5:20 pm

This is amazing =) In an epic way of course. I have had so many fail moments in my life it’s nice to see I’m not the only scatter brain walking about.

My best fail to date has yet to be topped, I was running from a friend and burst through the doors to my high school’s band room only to fall flat on my face with no time to brace myself. Apparently my friend had held on to my back pack and stopped me so suddenly I just went splat. It was epic, so epic I even had my band teacher burst out in laughter…luckily I’m pretty good at laughing at myself haha

  24. Heidi on March 4, 2013 at 6:01 pm

    haha, this is absolutely hilarious!!!

One time I went to the post office and was reading my mail as I was walking out. My sister was driving, so I just hopped in the passenger seat, as I continued to read my mail. When she wasn’t moving or saying anything, I looked up and realized that I WAS IN THE WRONG CAR!! I looked over and my sister was sitting in her car laughing so hard she was turning blue! I quickly jumped out of that car before the owner came back, THANK GOD! Absolutely mortifying!

  25. Lauren on March 4, 2013 at 6:04 pm

If it makes you feel better, one time my boyfriend and I drove 5 hours to one of my college roommate’s wedding. We had no idea where we were and a lot of the streets were one way and/or were closed so we were sort of on our own to figure out where to go. We found what we *thought* was the right catholic church and walked in while the bride and groom were saying their vows….only to realize we were at the wrong wedding!! We made it to the right wedding JUST before the bridal party was about to walk down the aisle.

  26. Parita @ myinnershakti on March 4, 2013 at 6:08 pm

  30. CourtStar @ StarSystemz on March 4, 2013 at 6:34 pm

It happens 😉 We all have those crazy moments but heck at least you enjoyed a rice krispie! I love Starbucks rice krisps YUM! Last great fail I had was putting 1 tablespoon of all these spices while making turkey muffins instead of 1 tsp. lets just say my hubby made the BEST face while eating them 🙂 Have a great week! Love + Shine CourtStar

  31. Jodie on March 4, 2013 at 6:38 pm

    Hilarious.

  32. Lea @ Greens and Coffee Beans on March 4, 2013 at 6:41 pm

I’m sorry that happened to you, but it is too funny! At least you got some Starbucks out of it, that usually makes things better.
My fail of the day is that I got bus times screwed up (the bus I have been riding every single day this year!) and got to campus half an hour after my class started. I just took it as a sign that class wasn’t meant to happen and got coffee instead.

  33. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on March 4, 2013 at 6:47 pm

HAHA, thank you for sharing! Glad you can laugh at yourself 🙂

  34. Karen on March 4, 2013 at 6:52 pm

I still have baby brain and my kids are middle schoolers!! Sorry, but it doesn’t get better :). My favorite part of this post is how you can laugh at yourself…and you are adorable to tell us about your frequent goofs. I have little oops moments like this way more often than I would care to admit!

  35. Ali @ Peaches and Football on March 4, 2013 at 7:04 pm

That is way too funny. How great that the people at the house rolled with it too. 🙂 Everyone needs a good laugh.

Does baby brain get worse with two kids? I have no clue but I think you should find out and let us all know. 😀

  38. Cai on March 4, 2013 at 7:16 pm

    That’s hilarious, hahaha.

One of my all time biggest failures was before a cross country race my sophomore year of high school. I went to bed nice and early–around 9 o’clock–and mistook a text message around 11:30 to be my phone’s alarm going off. I got up (it was dark, but I had to wake up at 5, so it was supposed to be dark), got dressed in my uniform, put my shoes on, and poured myself a bowl of granola.
My dad comes out of his room and asks me what in the world I’m doing…then I looked at the clock. 11:45 pm. Hahahaha

  39. Erica on March 4, 2013 at 7:29 pm

That gave me a nice chuckle. Don’t worry, you’re not alone in these fails!

  40. Brittany on March 4, 2013 at 8:07 pm

I was once going to a wedding shower and was driving with my mom. We had only been to the hosts house a couple times. We saw a bunch of people and cars parked outside. Took all the food and the gift out (we brought a lot of food!) walked into the backyard and the sign said “happy graduation!” It was a high school graduation party. They laughed and were joking that they will take the food if we couldn’t find our party. We found our party and all was right with the world. Still really embarrassing.

  46. Julie L on March 4, 2013 at 8:55 pm

I read your blog all the time and pretty much never comment. But, this story made me literally laugh out loud twice – first at the wrong house, then at the wrong date. HILARIOUS! Thanks for sharing! Hope your toe is okay!

  49. Josie on March 4, 2013 at 9:21 pm

Gina, as much as it is absolutely funny and delightful to read (and yes I smiled…), I’m grateful for you sharing this with the world. Because it (sorry for being so grave what I’m about to say) completely lifted a heaviness in me today that otherwise would completely swallow me whole. Your story of “fail” is why your blog always show up on my reader and often just does the *thing* to brighten up my day. And today is no ordinary day for this girl here. Thank you… beyond these two little words could convey. xoxo

  50. Pam on March 4, 2013 at 9:23 pm

You are awesome, thanks for sharing! I could totally see myself doing this some day, hehe.
The Starbucks treat at the end is well deserved 😉
