Winter Shape Up 2015: Week 1

Hi friends! I am SO excited about this year’s Winter Shape Up! Here is the week 1 schedule. Please feel free to modify or adjust as you see *fit* 🙂

Workouts for this week:

Workout #1 (Follow along video option)

Steady state: for this workout, you are going to complete 30 minutes of steady state cardio with a mode of your choice. Go for a run, a brisk walk, hop on the StairMaster, try a mix of your favorite cardio modes, or take a class you enjoy. If you take a class, make sure it’s not interval-based, and go for more steady state, like dance, kickboxing or Zumba.

Ideas to shuffle the workouts around:

-Make sure that you are not doing strength on consecutive days. Try to do workout #1 1-3 times total. Three is just a maximum amount; if you do the workout just one time though, that’s great!

-Alternate cardio intensities. For example, I would not do workout #1 and workout #2 on consecutive days since they include intense intervals! Sandwich an easy steady state or off day in there.

-As always, check with a doctor before making any fitness changes. Honor your body and modify as needed.

    I have had to re-organize this week slightly to accommodate my fave yoga class (tonight yay!!) & family visiting over the weekend for a wedding — so, yesterday I did my steady state, today is an hour of kundalini yoga (my *rest day) and tomorrow will be today’s workout 🙂 I am totally under control haha – Happy Monday!

    Two rounds of Workout #1 done! I skipped the third since I tweaked my shoulder weirdly a few days ago and don’t want to push it. BUT it was killer even just twice through! Well done as always 🙂

    An hour pull (I mean walk) with the dog after work, followed by 1 round of Workout 1 before heading to my hour+ yoga class. Tomorrow morning I’m hoping to ‘catch up’ on the winter shape-up schedule.

    Checking in for today- I actually moved my rest day to today after completing a HIIT workout and strength circuit (both from HIIT It!) yesterday!

    I’m a little late to the party, but seeing as today is still day 1 and I just got back from the gym where I did a steady state cardio circuit, I’m not even behind schedule! Excited to see this through.

    Finished w/o 1 two times through. On my first time through, during my second set of squat jumps, I literally said out loud, “Oh Gina” because I could barely even jump! Funny how reading the workout on paper doesn’t seem so daunting.

    Just finished Workout #5 since Monday is my gym day while the hubby watches our little guy. It kicked my bootay! I’m okay with it though, being 10 weeks postpartum I’m still getting back into the swing of running and haven’t done much with hills since it’s January in Wisconsin! Thanks for another Shape Up…it’s going to be great!
