Carried Away

Hi guys 😀 HAPPY FRIDAY! What are you up to this weekend?? Our plans are to plant herbs, hit up the farm for produce and chillax. <3

Sex and the City 2 was AMAZING 🙂

If you like SATC, you’ll love the movie. It’s just fun, the fashion will blow your mind and the one-liners were awesome. Mr. Big is also as dashing and charming as ever 😉

61610_video-163723-mr-big-on-the-sex-and-the-city-spoilers  (Source)

He’s like a fine wine, really 😉

(and yes, the pilot is well-aware of my *big* crush on Mr. Big. He understands and is very supportive, the same way I am with his love for Ashley Greene)

Before the movies, the girls and I went to Two Friends Cafe, which is one of my Valdizzy favorites and just recently started serving dinner. (The executive chef from 306 –our favorite- is now at Two Friends)

A glass of chilled bubbly Riesling:

wine

and a salad beast (I asked for a salad with goat cheese and lots of veggies):

salad

-arugula

-goat cheese

-tomatoes

-balsamic – their balsamic is fantastic

-roasted squash and zuchini

-grilled asparagus

It was perfect 🙂

When I got home from the movie, the pilot was still enjoying his build-your-own Mexi-meal– he loved it! Since I think it’s rude to watch people eat alone, I had a little midnight snack with him while we caught up on each other’s lives 😉 Twist my arm, eh?

snack

I have to say it, but those frijoles were amazing. I’m never buying the canned ones again.

This morning, I have a training appointment and some work to do (including making the best batch of macaroons I’ve ever made), Insanity (Cardio Power and Resistance) and the pilot is OFF (wahoo!!!) so we’ll see what kind of adventures we get into 😉

Have a happy Friday!
xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: Who’s your favorite Sex and the City character? I love them all, but Charlotte has always been my favorite 🙂 Also, Aiden or Big? Edited to say: Sorry to those of you who answered this question on Meghann’s blog– I just realized I asked the same thing! Oops :/

How are those Summer Shape Up workouts going??? Keep me updated in the comments section of this week’s post with how you’re doing and any changes you might want to see for next week – it will have the same format but NEW workouts (will be up MONDAY!): speed, strength, stretch

I really liked it, too! Not sure if I loved it as much as the series, but being married myself (also to someone older) for almost 2 years – I could totally relate!

As cliche as it is, Carrie is definitely my favorite. Samantha is a close second. And Big ALL the way. Aiden is hot and wonderful, but doesn’t give her the sparkle like Big does. 😉

  2. Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete on May 28, 2010 at 9:07 am

You bought canned pinto beans before? That is a sin in my house! Along with canned green chiles that I caught my husband with when we first started dating! But I digress…

Carrie and Aiden all the way! I like my hippie guys, what can I say!

  3. Kailey (SnackFace) on May 28, 2010 at 9:08 am

OK, so I have an ex-boyfriend who not only looks like Mr.Big, but is Mr.Big. It’s insane. He’s only 25, though.

I am SO glad you enjoyed the movie! Critics have been panning it! 🙁

Hrmmm, fave SatC character is definitely Carrie. I think every single writer girl identifies with her, or wants to!

  4. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on May 28, 2010 at 9:15 am

I think I might be the only one who’s never seen Sex and the City. I’m OK with that. Maybe that’s why I don’t see the allure of Big there. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 28, 2010 at 9:16 am

yes, you have to *know* him to be in love with him 🙂

  5. Emily B on May 28, 2010 at 9:23 am

I think Carrie’s my fav – but only because I’m more like Charlotte than all the other characters, so Carrie’s who I want to me more like. And I’m totally on Team Big!!!

  6. Bridget on May 28, 2010 at 9:25 am

I’m totally a Charlotte haha…well not quite as prim and propper as her but probably out of the 4 we’re the closest. BIG!!!! They jsut belong together! I’m so excited to see it tongiht!!

  7. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on May 28, 2010 at 9:28 am

I’m glad to hear you liked the movie – I keep hearing that it wasn’t awesome, so I was debating not seeing it… But maybe I will! I LOVE the series 🙂 and I’m not sure which “team” I’m on – I think Aiden is probably “better” for Carrie but she definitely desires Mr. Big more! haha and I would say Carrie is my favorite of da ladies.

  8. Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on May 28, 2010 at 9:37 am

Sounds like a fun time…I can’t wait to see it tomorrow!!
I love Charlotte for her innocent and funny personality, but I love Carrie for her admiration for fashion! Fashion is so fun!
I’d have to say I’m “Team Big” – but that Aiden sure is fun to look at. Oooo La La! 😀

  9. Naomi (onefitfoodie) on May 28, 2010 at 9:38 am

ahh so jealous you already saw it!! there is some bootleg boston newspaper that gave it terrible reviews!! said the fashion was ‘cheesy’ and not good at all!!! bahhh…i dont beleive it! how can SATC be BAD?!?! I freakin love them!! i cant wait to see it

i hate watching people eat too..i’ll always nibble a little something 😉

  10. katelyn on May 28, 2010 at 9:53 am

Isn’t ashley greene like 19? yikes

  11. Kristina @goodnweird on May 28, 2010 at 10:04 am

I’m going to see the movie tonight! I can’t wait. I’ve been planning my outfit for the past week. I have the perfect shoes 🙂

  12. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on May 28, 2010 at 10:18 am

Carrie is definitely my favorite!! And while I love, love, loved Aiden, it was obvious from the beginning of the show that Carrie + Big belonged together 🙂

Glad you liked the movie! Have fun with the hub!

  13. Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin on May 28, 2010 at 10:21 am

Ohhh I’ve never heard of bubbly riesling.. sounds delicious!!

  14. Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday on May 28, 2010 at 10:24 am

    I’m a Miranda.

although I do find all of the characters ridiculous in their own right.

  15. Paige on May 28, 2010 at 10:30 am

I’m definitely a Miranda – but I can’t choose a favorite out of the girls. They’re all too fabulous in their own right! I was Team Aiden all the way during the series, but Mr. Big really redeemed himself in the movies. He’s so much more enjoyable than he was on the show.

I’m glad to hear you liked the movie! I’m seeing it tonight and I was a little discouraged by the bad reviews I’ve been hearing.

  16. Mandy on May 28, 2010 at 10:33 am

My husband actually worked with John Corbett for awhile 🙂 John recorded an album and my husband’s publishing company played a big part in it 🙂 He’s just as charming in person!

    • Fitnessista on May 28, 2010 at 11:13 am

      wow, that’s awesome! 🙂

  17. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on May 28, 2010 at 10:35 am

I can’t freaking WAIT to see the movie on Sunday! I’m going twice actually…once with coworkers on Wednesday too!

I’ve always been a huge Carrie fan, but my heart is with Charlotte. She’s the most like me (especially with the Jewish thing ;)) I also have a soft spot for Aidan, since John Corbett was in My Big Fat Greek Wedding which I love. But I love Big. And I loved Berger!! really though, my favorite guy on the show is Harry 😉

  18. Jenn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on May 28, 2010 at 10:37 am

    That salad looks so good!

I’ve never seen SATC the show or the movies! I need to catch up on life, LOL.

    • Fitnessista on May 28, 2010 at 11:13 am

      hahah! YES for sure 🙂

  19. Heather (Heather's Dish) on May 28, 2010 at 10:39 am

you know, i never really watched SATC, but I like Carrie a lot…I think she’s really relatable and obviously dresses well 🙂

  20. Shelly on May 28, 2010 at 10:42 am

So I used to always be all “Oh, I love Aiden!” but when I was watching the movie, I leaned over and commented to my friend “I can’t let my fiance watch this- he’ll get too many ideas from Big.” And then it hit me, my fiance is a total Mr. Big. So I guess that makes me a Carrie! Haha.

  21. Stephanie on May 28, 2010 at 10:42 am

I’m dyingggg to see SATC2, all the girls at work left early yesterday to see it but I was too busy :/ Major bummer! I’ve always loved Samantha for how comfortable she is in her own skin and also Carrie for her being all over the place like I think we can all relate sometimes!

  22. Catherine on May 28, 2010 at 10:46 am

My fav character has and always will be Samantha. She is her own woman and makes no bones about it and I absolutely love that! She can be over the top – yes, but I just really admire the way she embraces life (even if I may not embrace um, random strangers in quite the same manner as her). 😉

Big definitely… I have a huge crush as well!

  23. Stephanie on May 28, 2010 at 10:56 am

Can you share your recipe for the frijoles? =) I have tried and they are always *ehhh* or I have to add tons of the “pinto bean seasoning”…. lol
Is it soaking overnight, then do you drain the water or use it to cook them? when do you add the salt, onion, garlic? I’ve heard if you add it too early the beans won’t soften? I love beans and rice =) yummmmmmm

    • Fitnessista on May 28, 2010 at 11:11 am

i soaked them overnight then rinsed and got rid of the water.
brought them up to a boil with more than enough water to cover, reduced to simmer and added 2 t sea salt and 5 giant cloves of garlic (with the skin on)
let them simmer for 4 hours
then seasoned with a little cumin and cayenne

HOW CUTE was SATC?! I liked this one better than the last one! My fave character is Samantha all the way but it hurts me how much Carrie reminds me of myself. Also I’ve realized that while Samantha is a strong female character with strong female wiles, I really don’t like how they sexualize her to be attractive to MEN. She has constant sex, crazy orgasms, and real sex is NOT always like that, and they never deal with it! Haha yes this is what I came out of the movie thinking last night.

Aiden or Big for who?! Aiden, I thought, was way too good for Carrie back then. And I like how messed up Big is.

  26. Tami Jo Eaton on May 28, 2010 at 11:29 am

I haven’t been able to find the Sun Warrior on in your shop. I really want to give it a try. thanks

Also, is the frijole recipe in your head also? I would love to make a crock pot version as I work full-time and have 3 small children. This would be awesome to come home to.

  27. Adrien on May 28, 2010 at 11:33 am

Carrie and Aiden (short hair Aiden) were my fav- and I love Samantha and Smith- he’s amazing.. mmmm

  28. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on May 28, 2010 at 11:33 am

Totally saw Mr. Big filming Law & Order in Union Sq. Park (right near my office) a couple years ago! Let’s just say that while I’ve never swooned for him much in SATC, it was a different situation seeing him in person. ::Diana fans herself:: I’m so pumped to see SATC 2, I don’t even care if it’s bad because I’ll just love the SATCness of it regardless.

And wait, isn’t Ashley Greene the chick who plays Alice in Twilight? Maybe I’m thinking of another Ashley, but if I’m right then hey, you’re even with the Pilot and your Edward love can be open and free too. 😉

    I love Carrie… and AIDEN! He’s so sweet 😀

So in your weekend plans list I read ‘to produce’ and had to do a double take….I thought you said you were gonna produce as in reproduce! I was like wooooah Gina!

Anyways!! Favorite character=Carrie. I love Samantha too. She cracks me up. Mr. Big vs. Aiden? Mr. Big! Although this movie might change that???? I dont knowwww???

  31. Jennie {in Wonderland} on May 28, 2010 at 11:47 am

Definitely love Carrie the most, for no good reason. I just think she’s fabulous. A tiny little fashionista, a girl’s girl, with her big curls and her bigger heart. I love her clothes, her wacky apartment, her writing, her signature necklace.I love her fear of commitment, of dullness. I love her selfishness – how it’s all about her. She’s such a head case, and yet she never stops searching or questioning or… questing. She’s always on a journey. It’s beautiful.

For Carrie, it’s got to be Big. I think the writers/producers of that show knew from the first season that she was meant to be with him. I do like Aiden, but never felt they were right together. He was looking for something that she just couldn’t give him – mostly because I think she knew, her heart was always with Big.

  32. rachael on May 28, 2010 at 11:56 am

Carrie is my favorite SATC girl, with Charlotte being a close second. I vote for Big & Carrie but I would prefer Aidan for myself:)

  33. Emily on May 28, 2010 at 12:02 pm

So so glad to hear a positive reaction! I was sitting here kinda dreading going to see it… I like Carrie best, but also love Miranda’s dry one liners, and I ADORE Big! He just cracks me up.

  34. Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness on May 28, 2010 at 12:10 pm

I’d like to say that I’m Samantha (who wouldn’t love to have her adventurous personality?) but I am totally a Carrie. In a relationship with a man for 5+ years but we’re not married or even engaged with 😀 What can I say!

Lady, your Mexican feast looks off the hook delicious! I love frijoles and yours look awesome. Perhaps you will eventually share your recipe for those as well? 🙂

By the way – I think the pilot chose Ashley Greene because she closely resembles you!

  35. Margarita on May 28, 2010 at 12:25 pm

The movie was REALLY hit and miss for me, I would say I loved only half the scenes. It was not as good as the first but there were some definitely funny and good parts to it!

  36. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on May 28, 2010 at 12:29 pm

My favourite is Charlotte too. Carrie would sometimes get on my nerves lol!

Aidan is definitely the nicer guy but she has way more chemistry with Mr. Big. 😀

  37. Lauren @ Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful on May 28, 2010 at 12:56 pm

    Hey Gina-

I was wondering…when you go to restaurants do you order off the menu? I always love your food choices at restaurants, but I never can find such healthy options on the menu at the restaurants I go to. Do you ask a lot of questions? I have a fear of my guests thinking I’m annoying or the restaurant not having what I want. I think you should do a post on restaurant eating. I just never know what to order, and I always feel bad if I’m asking too many questions. Would love some advice!

    • Fitnessista on May 28, 2010 at 1:03 pm

      hey girl,
i’ll totally do that for a reader’s request
i never order off the menu… like last night, i said “hey, is there any way you guys might be able to make a big salad with goat cheese and lots of veggies?”
and the server said “sure, what kind of veggies do you want?”
and i said “anything. asparagus, tomato, squash, whatever”
usually people are super cool about it 🙂

  38. Laura J. on May 28, 2010 at 1:00 pm

I can’t wait to see this movie! I can’t believe I have to wait a whole week…gaaa. Hurry up birthday!! 😉

There’s something about each of the girls I like. But I love Samantha’s sass and independence. She just says it like it is. haha

P.S. I went to my first spin class today. I’m pretty sure I was on the verge of cardio death! haha. Tell me it gets easier!

    • Fitnessista on May 28, 2010 at 1:03 pm

it definitely gets easier! the day after my first class, my roomies had to carry me up the stairs to our apartment because my legs hurt so bad, haha. your body will get used to it, spinning is definitely a strange beast at first 🙂

  39. Melanie on May 28, 2010 at 1:10 pm

It’s funny, I have the entire collection of DVD’s and the last movie DVD, but I still havent completed watching them. I want to wait till I have a chance to watch from start to finish before I see the movies. I need to work on that this summer now that there won’t be much on TV.

Those frijoles look great. I love making them from scratch!!

  40. Sassy Molassy on May 28, 2010 at 1:15 pm

Since you linked to that ultimate toe touch exercise for the summer shape up exercises, I’ve been doing the ones from that women’s health mag for the last few days. It’s a great short workout that gets a little sweat going and gets some morning strength in. http://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/best-workout

    Thanks for linking to it!

  41. Wifebot on May 28, 2010 at 1:16 pm

Oh, Gina, no! The movie was AWFUL. I saw it last night under the influence of five cosmos and five girlfriends, and all I could do was cringe through the whole thing.

I’m a HUGE SatC fan; own every season, know every episode. The movies are like a slap in the face to the brilliant writing, character development, and reverence for NYC. So many *bad* middle eastern stereotypes, puns, and outfits.

I really hope they don’t try and make a third movie. Just let the memory of the series rest in peace!

(Haha, can you tell I’m fired up about this?)

  42. mmclaughlin on May 28, 2010 at 1:47 pm

I’ve always loved Charlotte the most too! As far as the great Aiden/Big debate – I find Aiden more attractive, but Big is more my type. I haven’t seen the movie yet so I can’t offer any opinions on that right now. 🙂

  43. Raya @ Raya Runs on May 28, 2010 at 1:54 pm
