Detox Re-cap, Days 1-10

So, when I first started the doctor detox, I wasnโ€™t really planning on writing that much about it. After overwhelming requests, here I am to give ya a 10 day re-cap. Ask and ye shall receive Smile

As you guys know, Iโ€™m nearing the end of my treatment with my homeopathic doctor. I started seeing him last fall for some hormone imbalances and figured Iโ€™d give it a whirl the homeopathic way before diving into other medicines. From the get-go, my doc said that Iโ€™d be taking herbal supplements for about 5 months, after which Iโ€™d start gradually reducing the supplements until I didnโ€™t need them anymore. He made it very clear that his job was to fix my imbalances and get things working the way theyโ€™re supposed to and assured me that I wouldnโ€™t need to take supplements forever. He said he he wouldnโ€™t be doing his job if I had to do that. Heโ€™s a good guy, extremely knowledgeable and I trust him, so when he said Iโ€™d need to do a 30 day detox at the end of my treatment, I decided to roll with it.

I like to do my own thing, especially when it comes to eats. Donโ€™t tell me what to doโ€ฆ Iโ€™ll give you the stink eye and keep on my merry way Winking smile

For me to listen to this guy and *almost* follow his plan is kind of a big deal Open-mouthed smile

Hereโ€™s the breakdown:

-Days 1-10: Fruits, veggies, protein smoothies, quinoa, tea, kombucha, coconut oil, organic butter, raw honey, seasonings, beans, lentils + supplements

-Days 11-20: Add in fish

-Days 21-30: Add in nuts, seeds, fermented dairy (Iโ€™ll be using goatโ€™s), and chicken (Iโ€™ll be using certified-organic local sparingly)

The recipes he gave me were extra lame, so I used it as an opportunity to create my own detox-friendly recipes and experiment with new ingredients.

During the first 10 daysโ€ฆ

I drank a ton of green juice

juice

I fell in love with socca

Raw honey

and today, a new type of flour:

quinoa

Quinoa flour!

I couldnโ€™t believe it when I saw quinoa at the health food store yesterday. Iโ€™ve had mad hankerings for bready, carb-y type foods and since the only grain Iโ€™m *supposed* to have for the 30 days is quinoa- problem solved Open-mouthed smile

pancakes

First thing I made was some raw honey covered perfect protein pancakes. They were UHMAZING Smile

The first 10 days werenโ€™t as difficult as I thought theyโ€™d be, but I will say that I am DYING for almond butter. I thought that Iโ€™d be able to eat it on day 10, so I thought Sunday was close enough and made amazeballs and snacked on quite a few almond butter-covered spoons. Saturday night, I also enjoyed some perfectly-cooked salmon. Both were totally worth it Winking smile

Iโ€™m committed to finishing out the rest of the program as planned, but I will say that the second itโ€™s over, Iโ€™ll be digging into something gooey, chocolaty and delicious.

How I feelโ€ฆ

-The first 7 days, I felt amazing. The green juice gave me tons of energy, I was doing a great job of fueling myself despite the meal requirements, and I was feeling confident that Iโ€™d be able to finish, no prob.

-Day 8 hit me like a ton of bricks. Iโ€™m not sure if itโ€™s because I ate the salmon and nuts before I was supposed to, but I was exhausted and had a terrible stomachache all day :/

-Days 9-10: A little tired, and a giant, horrific cold sore appeared on my lip. Iโ€™m not sure if the cold sore has to do with stress, traveling, or is detox-related.

Today I feel much better. This could be because Iโ€™m back to the swing of things, or because I know that thereโ€™s a hefty bowl of coconut ice cream on the meal plan Winking smile

All in all, I know that what Iโ€™ve been doing with the doc is working. A major indication of my hormones being backwards was the fact that I cannot stand the mornings. It was hard for me to wake up, Iโ€™d hit snooze over and over, be quichi/tired and then get my second wind at night. Lately, I havenโ€™t hit the snooze button, rarely needed to nap and have had fairly constant energy throughout the day. Winner winner, my friends Smile Iโ€™ll post another re-cap at the end of the 30 days and will continue to update ya on whatโ€™s going on.

Well, Iโ€™m headed to my brotherโ€™s bday dinner and then off to teach!

See ya in the morning with a macaroon winner Smile

xoxo

Gina

You should get the doc to hire you to put together some better recipes! ๐Ÿ™‚

really interesting Gina, thanks for posting! I’m so glad it’s helping you. You should make a night of your first meal post-detox and go out on the town! (that possibly would cancel out the detox, I dunno…!!)

Thanks for posting this! I just finished (well, last week) reading The Hormone Diet by Natasha Turner. My in-laws have been following this diet since the summer and it’s working great for them. The diet starts off with a detox, and it looks so daunting, though I’m sure it would be worth it. I’ve been trying to work myself up to it (and wondering if I can convince my husband to go along with it) but I’m not quite there yet. Reading about your experience makes the idea a little less scary. ๐Ÿ™‚

if you do it the smart way and give your body enough fuel, it’s not as scary as it seems

Thank you so much for the update ~ I’ve been excited to hear about it. I think we are in similar positions with hormones/TTC and wonky blood work. I’m currently taking Vitx, Evening Primrose Oil, Prenatals and a Liver Detox Pill per my doctor. Can you please share what you take? I would love to know anything that might help me. My issue is my DHEA levels and acne after stopping the pill. Thanks!

i’ll totally share everything when it’s all over ๐Ÿ™‚

When I did my own mini detox (essentially vegan with no added sugar or caffeine) the sleep was the best thing about it!
I slept so well and felt RESTED when I woke up! Glad you are getting the same results!

I bought the coconut milk choc chip cookie dough ice cream last year when you mentioned it! It was really good! We have a new Vegan and organic ice cream parlor and coffee house that just opened near us! Can’t wait to go and try it! My son said it was really good!

My sister-in-law and I were just talking about coconut ice cream tonight! My niece hates it but I think it sounds delicious ^_^

That is great that the detox is helping and you are enjoying the mornings more now. I can’t remember the last time I woke up without hitting the snooze multiple times.
