26 weeks

and feeling nesty.

The belly continues to grow and the baby continues to dance and kick away. It’s crazy because now I can tell how long she is in my belly. Last night, she was kicking on my right side and doing something on my left side at the same time. Insane…and awesome.

The Pilot finally got to understand how much our little girl likes chicken/poultry. When I was eating last night’s turkey burger, I told him that she would start flipping at any moment. I hadn’t even finished my dinner before the dance party started.

“Come here and feel this!! It’s crazy”

“Oh my god! You weren’t joking. She’ll get her love of veggies and chocolate from her mama, and she’ll appreciate a good steak like her dad.”

Here we go 🙂

Updates for this week:

-I’m running out of clothes. My bottoms and dresses still fit me –jeans are a little tight but my crops are ok if I do the button hole trick- but shirts are a different story. My lululemon tanks almost all still work [thank goodness for stretchy luon] but as far as *real* clothes go, I’m running out. Last night I was getting ready for bed, and put on a matching tank and shorts set of jammies. The tank that used to fit was now a midriff with my belly hanging out the botto- Tom and I laughed pretty hard about that one. Guess I need to invest in some real, maternity tops and/or dresses. My shower is coming up in November and I think it would be nice to wear an outfit that fits me 😉

-I’m still loving the belly rubs, but am so sick of hearing what people think about my belly’s size. It’s never ok to comment on a woman’s size when she’s not pregnant, so why is it suddenly ok when she is? It’s just funny because some people tell me my belly is so small, and other people ask how many babies are in there. A work supervisor (!) came up to me after Zumba on Saturday –after a group of ladies stayed after to tell me how much they loved class and they can’t believe I’m still rocking it out pregnant- and said “I just can’t get over how big you are. How far along are you? Almost 7 months? I was never that big.” What do you even say to that? “Good for you?” I felt really warm and fuzzy after that one.

-Current cravings: the same. I’m so boring this week, haha. Tom has had many pregnancy cravings, though.

-Weight gained: not sure, but my guess is around 17 lbs. I’ll find out at the midwives’ this week.

-The nesting urge has hit me with a bang- I’m so excited to get the nursery put together. We picked out our crib yesterday from Babies ‘R Us:

image Princeton Crib in Espresso

I love the fact that the changing table is attached to the crib, since the nursery is fairly small.

nursery

Today, I also embarked on my first house-related DIY project: hanging letters of the baby’s name.

I had seen this done in quite a few friends’ nurseries and thought it would be something to personalize the room, but easy to take down since she’ll be moving to her own room eventually and the nursery will become an office [or nursery for the next baby].

Flourish Hanging Letters Source

[Nope, little nugette will not be named “Tatum”, just wanted to show an example]

On a baby website, I entered the name we had chosen, along with ribbon and color selections and the grand total: $176, not including shipping. For letters and ribbon. No way.

So I’m going to attempt to make my own, which could either be a huge success or a great fail.

First stop was at Michael’s to get the supplies:

michaels

and the total was already far less: $42. I’m thinking I can finish the project for under $70.

Letters:

[A few letters for a name hint]

and paint.

I picked out colors to match the bedding and am still trying to decide if I’ll do each letter differently, or do every other letter like the one pictured above.

It blows my mind that’s almost October already. Once we get to the end of October, it’s going to be a blink of an eye and she’ll be here. Tom’s birthday, our date-aversary (yeah, we celebrate it), my bday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Baby. Lots of little things to look forward to along the way, before the best surprise of all <3

Loved this post, Gina! You are great at rocking those power Y tanks. Lululemon should thank you for that. 🙂 It’s awesome that you still feel up to teaching Zumba and all. Can’t wait to hear the baby’s name!

  2. Sarah on September 27, 2011 at 7:49 pm

People make the same comments about my belly! Or at least they did from weeks 12 – 27. Now that I’m at 34, I’m just big and it’s to be expected. But it always annoyed me, because it’s not like I can control the size of my belly! It’s also fun when complete strangers tell you what you can and can’t eat. 🙂

I love the letters! I did some stick on letters in the nursery which need to be taken down and replaced by something prettier – I’m thinking a trip to Michael’s is in order!

PS – for tops and cute sweaters, I really love Old Navy maternity. It’s reasonably priced, cute stuff, and will be great transition wear for after the baby too.

  3. M on September 27, 2011 at 7:50 pm

I’m surprised no one mentioned allison?! (but maybe with ali that is too obvious) or aliana, etc.

  4. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on September 27, 2011 at 7:52 pm

Don’t be inhaling too many paint fumes now, ok? 🙂

“It’s never ok to comment on a woman’s size when she’s not pregnant, so why is it suddenly ok when she is? “— AMEN GIRL!

I just posted today about something someone said to me at the groc store yesterday and it made me do a post on ” I can’t believe he said that” and the one I will never forget is when I was 8 months pregnant with Skylar and in a bikini on the beach in Aruba and a woman said, “Oh, I didn’t know you were pregnant. I thought you were just chunky with a beer belly.

    Umm yeah.

Sorry that you had that comment at the gym yesterday. People are…unbelieveable.

  5. mary on September 27, 2011 at 7:58 pm

I’m a third with money on Olivia. Though Alison tends to appeal to manly military men, or at least it did to my BIL who’s some military piloty type thing. I think Alison is an engine brand (in some form of spelling)?

You are not huge at all. You’re like a starlet who’s all normal-sized than a baby bump.

I have to laugh at the ‘baby loves ___’ food comments. Like the food goes down your throat into her mouth! Heh. I don’t know how quickly the special chemicals in chocolate (and chicken?) get absorbed into the bloodstream and spread all throughout the body, but dang– it must be quick! Or maybe she is reacting to your reaction to the food! Or maybe she hates the food!

I actually did crave certain foods while pregnant and then they were foods my baby loved later, though.

that crib looks AWESOME! I’m sure you’ll do a good job on the letters, $176? That is insanity. If your project doesn’t work out your should some looking around on esty, I bet you’ll find something similar for WAY less that will still allow customization. Good luck!

I think you look totally adorable 🙂

  7. Emily on September 27, 2011 at 8:05 pm

    Abigail?
Love that crib though! Baby furniture can take up so much space.

    • Rachel on September 27, 2011 at 8:35 pm

You look totally normal and gorgeous. Peoples be dumb sometimes. My money is on Abigail, but Olivia is beautiful too. Love the crib, very pretty. Have fun with the project!

  8. Ali on September 27, 2011 at 8:06 pm

I think you are wise to make your own hanging name letters. And the plus side is that you get to make them exactly how you want them! Haha, I was kinda excited to see that there is an ALI in her name, just like me! I have to say too, for the record, people are cray cray. I have seen preggo mamas who look huge, and you are far from one of them. Like water off a ducks back my friend, that is all!

  9. mi-an d. on September 27, 2011 at 8:23 pm

ha! that’s awesome your lil one loves chicken! 🙂 ok my guess is… maybe my official name: MILANIA (pronounced mee-lah-neya) as noone can ever say it right. haha probably not, other guesses: alaina, liliana, aliya… i’m probably way off.. ha. btw you are looking good!

  10. aj on September 27, 2011 at 8:29 pm

I feel so excited for you! I can’t believe how time has flown so far. I feel like I “know” you, even though I am just following your blog. Can’t wait for the big day!

  11. Fancy on September 27, 2011 at 8:38 pm

    You look gorgeous, Gina!!! 🙂

  12. chelsey @ clean eating chelsey on September 27, 2011 at 8:39 pm

That is the exact same crib my sister got and she LOVES it!

  13. Marguerite Miller on September 27, 2011 at 8:44 pm

My sister in Law did this for my dad as a decoration for his home! (And did one for hers too)! But she used the preformed cardboard letters bought at the craft store! Then she just painted them all black! Some upper case and some lower, and some italics! It turned out great! And you would never know they were cardboard!

And I have seen a few people do it in kids rooms!

I am thinking Olivia as well! (Was thinking Laila at first, but you said that one wasn’t it)!

  14. Melodie on September 27, 2011 at 8:44 pm

Amelia, Olivia, Isabella. Those are my guesses in that order. I’m thinking Amelia because it’s the least common. You must have known you were asking for a guessing game when you gave us a little hint. 😉

  15. caronae on September 27, 2011 at 8:50 pm

I was so excited to squeal over the name Tatum since I love that name. 🙂 I’m going to guess Alison, Isabel, Ilana, Lia, Alia, or Malia. I feel like “a”, “i”, and “l” are pretty common in girl’s first names though, so it could pretty much be anything, lol…

  16. Anna @ On Anna's Plate on September 27, 2011 at 8:52 pm

I can’t wait for our baby to get active like that– I’m just at 13 weeks, so I know I have a long while to wait…but I think it will be so cool!

  17. Julie on September 27, 2011 at 8:52 pm

Can I just say you are the cutest pregnant girl ever!?! I am so impressed by your work ethic during your pregnancy- you are an inspiration to us all for a super fit pregnancy. I am continuously impressed with how healthfully you eat and maintain your workouts- don’t let anyone’s silly (and insensitive!) comments about your belly get you down- you are the perfect example of what a healthy pregnancy should be! 🙂
    -Julie

  18. Jill on September 27, 2011 at 8:59 pm

You are beautiful Gina! Don’t let anyone make you think otherwise.

My money is on Isabella, my little girl’s name 🙂

  19. Laury @ thefitnessdish on September 27, 2011 at 9:02 pm

    I HAVE THAT CRIB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!! I got the snickerdoodle bedding with it. It’s so perfect. I set up the girafe musical mobile above the changing table and a really large pink butterfly mobile above the crib. Ella loves it.

I put most of it together by myself at 35 weeks pregnant. Let me know if you need any virtual help…you just need some man power at the end with the larger panels. http://www.thefitnessdish.com/?p=4897

I am going to guess Isabella! But then it would be close to your Bella so idk…hmmm….I LOVE Isabella though. Was on my list.

    Nesting is so much fun!!!!

You look so gorgeous too. I can’t believe the cr*p people say. i got teh SAME stuff. Some would say oh you’re so small, all belly, etc which was nice. Then I would get you’re SO big…any day now..there’s DEFINITELY a baby in there, etc. My last 2 weeks [Ella was a week late] I DREAD going to my gym people start saying “you’re still here” “OMG” it was the end of April so I took my workouts outdoors and in my house for the last week and a half and the yoga studio with a nunch of other pregnant women that knew better. So annoying some people!

  20. Ashley @ The Fit Academic on September 27, 2011 at 9:08 pm

1 – I will totally go find that work supervisor and kick her ass. WTH?! I can’t even believe it! For real, just give me the deets….I know “people”, haha ; )
2 – ADORABLE crib! LOOOOVE it! Precious!

  21. Michelle @ Crazy*Running*Legs on September 27, 2011 at 9:11 pm

Aww – your belly is adorable!

I made letters for my son (same ones you got from Michaels!). He actually learned how to spell his name because of them! I was not as inspired when I had my daughter (we actually didn’t decide on her name until AFTER she was born – so that played into it), so I ordered her letters from eBay. They are more creative than I could ever be — LOVE them!

  23. Katheryn on September 27, 2011 at 9:17 pm

I think you look beautiful! Definitely strange how people think it’s okay to comment on a woman’s belly.

Love the crib you chose, but a quick question. Does the changing table detach as well? Both my kiddies were little climbers and that would have been too easy to climb into and then fall.

  24. Lauren on September 27, 2011 at 9:20 pm

    my guess is Lucia!

  25. Christie on September 27, 2011 at 9:30 pm

I didn’t realize how many names had those letters until reading the comments! Even the name I’ve picked out has them – Madeline :). I’m also going to be making her name to hang on the wall. I had no idea you could order it…

  26. Melissa on September 27, 2011 at 9:33 pm

You look awesome… pregnancy totally suits you! From pictures I definitely don’t think you look like a big preggo at all. If anything, I would guess because you are so petite and only gaining in your belly, that it makes it look proportionally larger? Or they’re just clueless… either way, I hope if/when I have a baby I look HALF as fit as you!

  27. Stephanie on September 27, 2011 at 9:41 pm

This may be TMI, but have you had to buy new sports bras too? I am 6 weeks pregnant and the girls are already more full. I’m a tall – but small – girl, but I really need to use a sports bra/hidden bra combo in step or on the elliptical. Would love to know what works for you. I found some looser-fitting workout tops for later (don’t need them yet at all), but I worry for later and don’t want to spend a small fortune on these things. 🙂

BTW, I think you look adorable! I cannot wait for your sweet little girl to arrive. Your blog is a daily must-read for me and I have really enjoyed following your family posts. Especially since it now applies to me! <3

you look great!! That crib is really cute, and I always hear that having the changing table attached (or very close by) is especially handy.

  31. Bree on September 27, 2011 at 9:51 pm

I completely understand about people commenting on your size when you’re pregnant. Thankfully my doctors were supportive and told me I was doing well – although I only gained ~14-15 pounds, I just gave birth Friday night (9/23) to my 8lb 1oz, 21.5 in long son, he’s perfectly healthy . Hang in there and just try to let it roll off your back, you look beautiful to me!

  32. Amy on September 27, 2011 at 10:02 pm

Gina, You look amazing……………………don’t or try not to hear the negative comments………….I think it’s them, they are sad or not happy with their situations…………or they grew up around that type of chatter.
Anyway, love the name and letters you’ll have on the wall!

You and the Pilot will be awesome parents…………………and I don’t even really know u!

  33. Lisa O on September 27, 2011 at 10:17 pm

You’re gorgeous and at least it appears all bump related! One of my best friends told me my bum had gotten bigger, sighhhh, I was crushed. It’s meant to be the front that gets bigger not the back!
I think whatever you are doing, keep doing it. You look so healthy and fit, like every time you update and it always inspires me. And you can keep doing most of the exercise you’re used to – the day we conceived was after a half ironman triathlon my husband and I did and five weeks later when we found out, I cut back a lot (for both the baby and my sake!). Running and cycling had to be cut (they didn’t feel right) and being winter in Aus, swimming is not very appealing! I have been doing a lot more Gina-style exercise and mimicking a lot that you do, so thank you for your brilliant updates it has helped me a lot. PS We found out 2 weeks ago we are also having a girl!! 22 weeks now and I feel her moving around so much, it’s magic.

  34. Lisa on September 27, 2011 at 10:21 pm

You still look so fit! I know you are naming her after me- haha! I think Lila. I love everything you’ve picked out!

  35. Cat on September 27, 2011 at 10:30 pm

My sister in law is just a few weeks ahead of you due-date-wise and she’s also very fit and active and while it’s hard to truly compare from real life to photos, I’d say her belly looks similar to yours. I think it’s crazy that people say stuff about your size, but I do think that proportionally since you’re fit and small that it might just appear that you’re “bigger” than other pregnant women. Because you’re a small person and the belly on you just SEEMS huge. I don’t know, I was just thinking about that in terms of my SIL, so I thought I’d pass along!

  36. Leslie Wingate on September 27, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Abigail, Lilliana, Hmmmm…. Let’s take that total costs of letters, divide it up, get the amount of letters minus ribbon costs, 😀 Just kiddin’! We didn’t know the name with either child until 2 days old. I just had to see their faces. We liked Austin for a boy, but then he came out. We had two names picked, but he totally looked like a Chase…not Austin. With Brenna (rhymes with Jenna), we had Abigail picked out but the nurse said so many baby girls left with that name recently…in 2004, so we (meaning I. lol) chose Brenna. Hubby always liked them name Cody so our cat is Cody. 😉

    *the name. oops

  38. krista on September 27, 2011 at 10:40 pm

I was at the grocery store one day when a women said “oh how lovely, when are you due?” I looked at her and then at my 1 mth old baby in his stroller and then at her and then at my baby…. not so nice, not so smart!

  39. Joelle (On A Pink Typewriter) on September 27, 2011 at 10:44 pm

Good Lord, I cannot believe someone (and from work no less!) said that to you! How is that ever okay? People are catty sometimes, but just focus on your little nugget and all the blessing headed your way. 🙂 I’m sure whatever name you two have chosen will be adorable!

  40. Tara @ Sweat like a Pig on September 27, 2011 at 11:05 pm

I think you are the most beautiful pregnant woman I’ve ever seen! You have this amazing glow and the fact that you stay so healthy is so inspiring. I almost wish I was pregnant right now so that I could feel more inspired by posts like this!

Thank heavens the name isn’t Tatum. I died a little on the inside when I saw the picture haha

  41. AR on September 27, 2011 at 11:18 pm

I am an Abbey… so I am gunning for Abigail. But maybe it’s Alison, Olivia, or Isla? Must be so exciting/weird/amazing to know someone (and her name) who’s not all the way here yet. Love it!

  42. Jen on September 27, 2011 at 11:50 pm

Oooh, maybe something like Annalise or Anneliese 🙂

  43. katie on September 28, 2011 at 2:19 am

I swear people don’t think before they say things. I think comments like that are people’s “go-to” response just for something to say to a pregnant person? I always felt bad for my pregnant coworker for all the comments she had to endure… It was horrifying! Ha! Anyway, you look lovely! 🙂

  44. Madeline on September 28, 2011 at 3:18 am

I think the name’s Madeline! Maybe cause that’s my name too hehe 🙂

You look gorgeous in those photos, Gina. Those people probably don’t think about what your reaction might be to comments like that. Some people might think of it as a compliment, too. I’ve never really thought of how a pregnant woman might receive a comment about her belly’s size, but then again I’m only 17 and spend very little time with pregnant women, ha. Sorry you’ve got to bite your tongue so much and endure those comments!

Anyways… Any idea on when you are planning to reveal the name? We’re all awfully curious!

  45. Fallon on September 28, 2011 at 7:28 am

My girlfriend recently bought the same supplies from Michaels and painted the letters of our friends new baby girl name. She mixed up colors and she glued cute little animals to each name. It came out so good! Definitely make your own, it will mean so much more.

  46. kaci on September 28, 2011 at 8:14 am

You look great, you are the true definition of a fit mommy!
Im not sure about the name, you seem to like to put a Spanish spin on words so the names could be endless lol..i also suck at scrabble so im not even going to try and butcher it lol.

  47. Alicia on September 28, 2011 at 8:28 am

Lydia? Claire? Alicia? Olivia? Lisa? Linda? Ila? Blair? Sheila? Optimus Prime? I know the last one doesn’t have all of the letters, but I’m running out of ideas here…..haha. I can’t believe someone would comment on how “big” you are?!! That’s redonk! Besides the pregnant belly, everything else in your picture still looks like the same Fitnessista! And that’s extremely impressive!! When I get pregnant, I pray that I’m able to stay half as fit as you are. Anyway, as always, love your blog. Such an inspiration!

  48. Jessica on September 28, 2011 at 8:41 am

I know what you mean about people making comments about the size of your belly. I was 6 months pregnant when I had my baby shower, I didn’t think I looked really big but one of my aunts comes in and says “Oh, how much bigger are you going to get?” Implying that I am already huge! I just had to ignore it; I know she is the type of person that doesn’t think before she speaks. Some people try to compare, probably to make themselves feel better. I think you look gorgeous!

  49. Lismarie on September 28, 2011 at 8:51 am

Hmm… mb Laila? Whichever name, I know it’ll be beautiful!

I love that you celebrate your date-aversary! My fiance and I have been together for 7 yrs and getting married in June but I can’t imagine not celebrating the anniversary date we’ve celebrated for the past 7 yrs so I’m glad to hear you do it too and it’s not a weird thing to do 🙂 Plus, I told him it’ll be a good excuse for a 2nd official date night when the kids come, he liked that idea 😉

  50. Sarah on September 28, 2011 at 9:01 am

You are gorgeous! And you total had me with the name, I was like “Tatum, what a great name *read a little further*…oh” Lol.
I love the name decoration too! I’m sending that picture to my sister-in-law who is currently preggo with my first niece/nephew. Thanks!!
