I scream for autumn

Heyyyyyy šŸ˜€ How are ya, bloggies?? Did you have your Indian food yet today?? I wish I could say I have a belly full of baigan bhartha, but alas, that is not the case. We actually got out of class super early and I was thinking of hitting up the Indian buffet but Iā€™m trying to be patient. When I have my beloved Indian food again, it needs to be a nice sit-down dinner, not a stuff-your-face frenzy before work šŸ˜‰

I went to the gym this morning with Michelle but feel kind of like a truck ran over me. I think all of the craziness is finally catching up with my body because I am sooooooore! I think yesterdayā€™s vinyasa blitz has something to do with that, too šŸ™‚ So I walked on the treadmill with Shape mag for an hour and it felt good to take it easy.

Bfast this morning was an old favorite:

014

Ezekiel with almond butter, 1/2 nanner and cinnamon on top, and the other half of nanner sandwich-style with almond butter

We got to class, and I had a stinky drinky while we reviewed for the test we have tomorrow:

015

After the review, we got to work making some raw ice cream.

018

Michelle and I wanted to do a fall flavor so we made the basic vanilla recipe and added cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and ginger.

016

And I had a little scoop of it for my mid-morning snack šŸ™‚

020

It was sooooo delicious! I love fall flavors and this ice cream tasted heavenly. Iā€™ve got a pint in the freezer to share with the pilot when he gets here.. unless it mysteriously disappears before then. Muahaha >:) For an excellent (and very similar) recipe for raw vegan ice cream, check out this page.

We worked some more on the cost of our meals for Friday (so that weā€™ll be able to determine prices, etc. when we decide to open our own business) and then it was time for lunch.

I made another Greek-style salad because I have a love affair with the kalamata olives we got in.

021

Theyā€™re so plump and salty! Mmmmm.

This particular salad beast had spinach, yellow bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, kalamata olives, mint, dill, shallot, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper and a drizzle of EVOO. And I devoured it šŸ˜€

Iā€™m back at the hotel-casa and thinking Iā€™ll hit up the mall (again). I need to live up civilization while I can!

See ya soon.

Much love,

G

Something to talk about: Health intentions falling through. So you guys know how I bought that dry brush? Eh, havenā€™t used it. Or maybe the sprouts I had growing in the hotel-casa? Threw them away because I was afraid of salmonella. Sometimes I get so excited about doing something new for my health, and then I either forget about it, get discouraged about what exactly Iā€™m supposed to do with my new idea, or just blow it off. Does that happen to anyone else? Every night I tell myself Iā€™m going to use the dry brush when I shower in the morning and every morning I seem to forget. I guess itā€™s just difficult to add something new when you have your routine pretty much set, but once you can make that little change, itā€™s totally worth it.

    That ice cream looks delish!!!

I believe there was a TWSS liner in there!!! Lol

    • Fitnessista on September 30, 2009 at 11:33 pm

there was a TWSS liner and i missed it?!? i’m losing my touch, haha

  2. Danielle on September 30, 2009 at 4:35 pm

That icecream sounds perfect for the fall!

  3. Sarah (LovIN My Tummy) on September 30, 2009 at 4:40 pm

So do you want to know my get rich scheme I’ve concocted? Selling frozen coconut meat. I’ll pay for some cheap labor and get them to hack open all the coconuts, I’ll freeze the guts and sell them at Trader Joe’s across the nation…you’d buy it right? Imagine how easy it would be to make raw ice cream!

    • Fitnessista on September 30, 2009 at 11:33 pm

i think that’s a GENIUS idea. since they don’t sell thai coconuts in valdizzy (and no one will order them for me), i drive two hours to jacksonville and buy all the ones i can find, hack them up and freeze the meat. it works, but your idea would be so much more convenient.

That ice cream is amazing! I love ice cream all year round.

  5. Shelby on September 30, 2009 at 4:48 pm

    Fabulous ice cream!

I vote for hittin’ up the mall!

  7. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on September 30, 2009 at 4:56 pm

AH this is so funny because I just now impulse-bought a young coconut with no particular use in mind. Now I know why! Thanks so much for the ice cream link, I might just try it out real soon! I think I have all the ingredients. I like this idea a lot better than $15/pint at 1LD, thankyouverymuch. šŸ™‚

And I hear ya on habit creation – it definitely makes you need to think twice about everything! I’ve incorporated the dry brush in the last month or two, and I can’t say that I enjoy it or that I remember it EVERY day, but hey, something’s better than nothing. It’s just one of those habits that doesn’t so much deliver a tangible result so I can see why you may not have jumped on it instantly. I’m just trusting that it does me some good!

  8. Erica on September 30, 2009 at 4:56 pm

mmm fall ice cream- that sounds lovely! I’d love some pumpkin & cinnamon mixed! Love your creations šŸ˜‰

  9. simpledaisy on September 30, 2009 at 5:02 pm

Oh yes…sometimes I have the best of intentions for eating someting healthy….and then low and behold I grab the darn bag of pretzels! Not the worst thing but certainly not the best thing either!! Oh well…
I think the most important part of trying out new things is to actually try them and then decide if it is something you really want to incorporate into your life:)
Maybe after all dry brushing and sprouts are something you’d actually like to add to your already very full routine?!?!?!
    Have a great day:)

  10. simpledaisy on September 30, 2009 at 5:03 pm

oops…I meant aren’t something you’d like to add!!
    Just wanted to make sense:)

  11. Leah @ Simply fabulousnow on September 30, 2009 at 5:03 pm

Yes, I totally get that way. I always get all gung ho on something amazing that I want to do for me and like you, I forget about it, blow it off – or come up with something different. I hear ya!!

    Classic breakfast. I love it!

  12. Alicia on September 30, 2009 at 5:34 pm

I totally do. I got all hyped up to try oatgurt…I love oats and yogurt so why not try to combine them into one? Well two smelly failed attempts later and I gave it all up. I’ll just have to stick with regular old oats and yogurt (separate ofcourse).

  13. VeggieGirl on September 30, 2009 at 5:54 pm

    No Indian food yet!

  14. GirlonRaw on September 30, 2009 at 6:40 pm

How hot are those ice-cream makers? I’ve been hanging out to get one soon, but couldn’t justify the expense. Maybe I will just have to treat myself šŸ™‚

  15. Cara (Cara Craves...) on September 30, 2009 at 6:47 pm

When incorporating new things in my routine….usually I am so excited in the beginning and then, like you, I just end up forgetting about it.
I guess it also depends on what it is and how useful/ important it is.

  16. m on September 30, 2009 at 6:47 pm

I love my dry brush but can never get it together to use in the AM. Instead I try to use it when I take a second shower in the evening (after a work out or something). Usually, I’m in less of a hurry.

    Just an idea šŸ™‚

  17. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on September 30, 2009 at 6:57 pm

The flaves of cinny, cardamon, ginger, and CLOVE? OMG Girl….you’ve outdone yourself. I would be in hog heaven. In fact, you could sell that combo for like a flavored coffee. I know you’re not that much into coffee anymore (but I still am!) and that sounds delish as a creamer. Dairy free vegan coconut milk creamer that is šŸ™‚

Health things that I buy and don’t follow thru on? Well, I’ve run the gamut but the biggest thing I feel like I am failing on is juicing. I have a brand new Breville that I’ve only used a dozen times b/c I cannot stand cleaning it. Cannot stand. It’s a 15 min job to clean, and 15 min to juice. And I don’t have 30 min in my life to drink a glass of juice. I feel like a juicing dropout šŸ™‚ I’d love to know how you do it quickly and dont feel like it’s such a chore to clean the juicer! I was talking to Gena bout it and she even said yea, it’s a PITA. LOL!

Mmmmmmm…ice cream!!! Yeah, I usually get excited about an idea and then after it’s started, the excitement wears off.
I try to apply body lotion twice a day: once in the morning and once before bed. The before bed thing rarely happens…..it’s just one extra step that I don’t need when I’m tired. šŸ™‚

I think a lot of us–myself included–are quick to jump on the bandwagon when we hear about something that’ll improve our health. I actually think that the better-informed health consumers are more susceptible to having a health intention and not sticking with it because we considerable ourselves more careful sifters–less likely to buy into a health gimmick. I know when I commit to something new with the intent of improving my health–the item, food or service has sold me… either through my own research or a recommendation. That said, I, too, feel like I always have health intentions I don’t follow through with. I think that sometimes it’s really difficult to integrate new “staples” into our routines.

Ahh rant over. Your ice cream and salad both made my mouth water!!

      i couldn’t agree more, friend šŸ˜€

  22. Lauren on September 30, 2009 at 8:34 pm

I am lovin the autumn ice cream! I was just thinking about when the Pumpkin Ice Cream will return. I sort of have an obsession with pumpkin ice cream! šŸ™‚

Have a great night. Hope you find some great buys at the mall!

    • Fitnessista on September 30, 2009 at 11:28 pm

me too- i love pumpkin anything! šŸ˜€
and yes, i did make some good mall purchases!

  23. Erin on September 30, 2009 at 11:38 pm

Wanna know a secret? I haven’t been dry-brushing either šŸ˜Æ I am the same way and I KNOW you’re not alone. We’re all so passionate and obsessive!
    Happy belated veggie-versary btw šŸ™‚
P.S. No chance of O-town šŸ™ I hate work Gina! It minimizes all the fun in my life! I’m so glad your experience has been amaze…have LOVED reading about it and drooling over all your beautiful foods

  24. WholeBodyLove on October 1, 2009 at 12:37 am

We all set out with good intentions. The truth is: you have a lot on your plate right now (no pun intended, I swear). I have to remind myself often of how hectic my schedule is and how full my life is. We just can’t do it all šŸ˜‰

  25. Hilary on October 1, 2009 at 8:28 am

Maybe you could keep the dry brush out where you can see it so it’s a visual reminder to do it in the morning. I have a dry brush too, and before I got married it would sit out in my apartment where I always saw it before I got in the shower. I did it every day! Then I moved in with my husband and it’s stashed under the sink. Needless to say, I have only used it a handful of times. The key is to make it convienant! Then it’s easy to keep it up!

Enjoy your last few days of class!

  26. Laura W on October 1, 2009 at 9:07 am

That ice cream sounds so good!

The most recent brilliant idea that I have had- that I was going to start moisturizing my hands every morning since it’s getting cold out. I even got a big thing of my favorite L’Occitaine (sp?) rose hand cream! I have used it maybe once. lol

  27. Stephanie on October 1, 2009 at 10:11 am

I know exactly what you mean about intentions falling through. The past several weeks I’ve been telling myself, this week I’m going to add this in and cut this out, etc. and I’ve just been reverting back to old routines! I need to get on it:)

  28. The Formerly Anonymous Yvette on October 1, 2009 at 2:50 pm

Yeah — I had to have that conversation with the orchid I brought home from Ikea (RIP). However if I ever need a really nice brown orchid pot — I have one.
