To start your St. Patrick’s Day off on the right *foot*, here’s a little jig for ya’ll.

Not this kinda jig:

riverdance  (Source)

(Random trivia: I actually took Irish step dance for 3 years. ‘Twas a blasty)

THIS kinda jig:

A new Zumba video!

I really hope you like it 😀

Have a wonderful day, rock out some green (!) and I’ll see ya this afternoon.

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: Any fun St. Patrick’s Day plans? What’s your favorite Irish or green food? Mine would have to be soda bread… expect a vegan, gluten-free version in the near future. I’m hankering over here 🙂

    Hi Gina,
I have never posted before. I am old enough to be your mama, but I have to tell you how inspirational you are. LOVE the zumba video. That looks like so much fun. I exercise at 5 am every morning, and that would be a fun reason to get out of bed. LOL. You are such a doll. You are so gracious and beautiful on the inside and out. I hope my boys find someone like you. BTW, one of my sons is in college on a ROTC Airforce scolarship and we loved the picture you posted at one time of your pilot with his plane. Thanks for brightening my day.

Happy St. Patty’s Day!!! I think a Green Monster counts as my favorite “St. Patty’s” food, haha. If only there were a green margarita….hmmmm Does Patron count??? 😉

Hope ya have a good day! xoxoxox

I’m so glad you posted this video…my gym just added a Zumba class and I know it’s popular, but I had no idea what it would be like! So thanks! 🙂

  7. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on March 17, 2010 at 8:45 am

I so wish i could take your zumba class… i really should start an official list of why you should move here, huh? It’s my good friend’s birthday today too!

  10. McPinks on March 17, 2010 at 8:57 am

We need to think of way to make the breakfast cookie green! – By the by how many calories do you guesstimate to be in one of those bad boys?

  11. Anna on March 17, 2010 at 9:02 am

I love your zumba videos! You always look like you’re having so much fun- the joy just raidates from your smile.

  12. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on March 17, 2010 at 9:06 am

I’m so glad I’m not in your Zumba class. I’d make a fool of myself on this video. Someone would probably post it to You Tube with the title “Crazy Zumba Girl.”

  13. Elizabeth on March 17, 2010 at 9:06 am

Aiii! G!!! Someone posted a routine to this song on YouTube (different moves, same song) and I thought it was so fun I wanted to learn it next for my Zumba students. I like the energy of yours! Awesome job!

  14. Lauren @ Eater not a runner on March 17, 2010 at 9:13 am

I think green monsters are my favorite these days! But I love a good Guinness 🙂

  15. Claire (College:Raw) on March 17, 2010 at 9:17 am

Awesome video! I always like to see what other people are doing in their Zumba classes. My favorite Irish food is probably Irish soda bread…I’d probably make an exception any day to eat it!

  16. Mo on March 17, 2010 at 9:19 am

My absolute favorite day of the year! Here’s a challenge for you – come up with some type of raw/healthy Shepherd’s Pie! My plans today include a Guinness or two . . . I’m going to have to plan my food intake accordingly, as you know there is a meal in every pint! Take care and have a wonderful day.

You are such a good dancer! Love it! I am sending this to my mom because she just became Zumba certified and sits in front of her computer all day watching Zumba videos!

  20. Erica on March 17, 2010 at 9:49 am

Happy birthday to your Bro! You look so genuinely happy teaching- I just love it! Have a great day pretty lady 😉

  21. Roro on March 17, 2010 at 9:50 am

I had fun doing that dance…I was dying at the end LOL!!

  22. Shannon on March 17, 2010 at 10:00 am

Happy St. Patty’s Day! I used to be a step dancer too! It was fun, but it got a little too intense for our family (there was a feis EVERY weekend)! Nobody’s around to grab a pint with me this year, so I think I’ll celebrate with a green monster 🙂 I may make soda bread for my coworkers as well.

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 10:27 am

that’s so cool you used to step dance, too!
you’re right, it was crazy busy with the feisanna and the costumes got to be ridiculously expensive

  23. Jeannette on March 17, 2010 at 10:03 am

OMG, Zumba looks like so much fun! I definitely definitely definitely want to give it a try!

  24. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on March 17, 2010 at 10:04 am

That looks like a lot of fun!

Do you make up Zumba dances or are they prechoreographed? Also, do Zumba instructors “coach” during class? Or do they just model the movements?

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 10:26 am

      hey lily,
some instructors pay to be a part of the “zin” network, where they get dvds for pre-choreographed routines and cds with the music. i prefer to do my own thing 🙂
some instructors coach and some just dance the whole time. i dance the whole time but will break down more complicated steps before we start the song

  25. Laura J. (Health and Hotness) on March 17, 2010 at 10:05 am

Your Zumba class looks like a blast!! 🙂 My favorite Irish food is corned beef and cabbage! ha It makes the house smell like death but it just tastes so good! Unfortunately there will be no corned beef and cabbage in my life today, so I had to settle for an extra green smoothie 🙂 Happy St. Patty’s day!

  26. Anna on March 17, 2010 at 10:05 am

Zumba vid: adorable!!! Happy Saint Paddy’s Day!

  27. suzanne on March 17, 2010 at 10:14 am

Love the Zumba video 🙂 Happy Saint Patrick’s Day

  28. Heather @ get healthy with Heather on March 17, 2010 at 10:22 am

I love soda bread too! When I worked at a bakery I always looked forward to this day cause there’d be so many fresh loaves made.

  29. MAJL on March 17, 2010 at 10:23 am

I did a Zumba class and it was completely different; I barely broke out a sweat but would get a great workout from your class. Can instructors choose their own music and chorey? How does it work?

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 10:25 am

yeah you can choose your own music and choreography– i’ve been to a couple of tame classes and didn’t break a sweat either

  30. Erin Alexandria on March 17, 2010 at 10:26 am

    You are too freakin’ cute!!

  31. Alexis on March 17, 2010 at 10:26 am

I like corned beef, but my favorite part of St. Patty’s Day is this steamed cabbage with a dill/dijon sauce my mom always made. I stole the recipe from her last time I was home, and can’t wait to make it! It made my cabbage-hater boyfriend into a believer last time I made it 🙂

<3 the Zumba vid! I haven't been in a week, and I miss it!

  32. Heather (Heather's Dish) on March 17, 2010 at 10:31 am

you should TOTALLY incorporate some of that Irish dance training into Zumba sometime 🙂 seriously though, so cool…i’m so jealous of your dancing ability!

  33. Jessica @ The Process of Healing on March 17, 2010 at 10:43 am

That looks FUN!!!! And i’m super jealous as I have ZERO dancing skills because of my lack of coordination. So not sure I would attempt that in public but it looks awesome anyway. And you are so gorgeous girly!!!

Favorite Irish food- umm real Irish bread and butter. YUM!!! I lived on that when i was there about 5 years ago.

  34. Kelly on March 17, 2010 at 11:00 am

Wow, that looks awesome. I don’t think i’m nearly coordinated enough for Zumba now.

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 11:23 am

YES you are! it’s really not bad and the more you go, the easier it gets 🙂

  35. Kat on March 17, 2010 at 11:02 am

Ah I keep seeing soda bread all over the place but I’ve never had it before! I totally meant to make a green moster for breakfast this morning to have a little green celebration but I completely forgot. Maybe I’ll get one in after the St.Pattys day 5k today.

I’ve always wanted to see what Zumba was really like! I’m pretty adventurous when it comes to exercise but I was afraid of stepping into a dance class without knowing anything about it. Thanks so much for posting the vid!

  36. Karen Carloni on March 17, 2010 at 11:17 am

Whoa – the Zumba looks like great fun – way too many steps for me. I would be all over the place and knock over the lady next door too! Happy St. Paddy Day! I love soda bread and also love cabbage, steamed lightly (very stinky though).

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 11:23 am

mmmm i love cabbage too! stinky and all. it’s delicious

  37. JavaChick on March 17, 2010 at 11:23 am

You class looks like so much fun! I think I would like Zumba but I don’t think there are any classes around here.

Not sure if we’re doing anything for Saint Patty’s Day but I am wearing my green boots. 🙂

  38. Morgan @ Healthy Happy Place on March 17, 2010 at 11:26 am

woowwww i’m not that coordinated in dance to even TRY that video! you are such a great dancer!

      LOL. thank you 🙂

  41. Liz on March 17, 2010 at 11:40 am

I have never had Irish soda bread before, I look forward to your vegan version. In honor of St. Pat I had a pretty bomb green smoothie for breakfast. Love that Zumba video! I took my first class last week, I am so uncoordinated- but it was a blast.

  42. skinnyrunner on March 17, 2010 at 11:49 am

soda bread? what the heck is that? i cant wait to see your version!

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 11:59 am

it’s a bread with baking soda instead of yeast with raisins in it. it’s pretty much amazing

  43. Kilee on March 17, 2010 at 11:50 am

Happy St Patty’s Day! I loved the zumba video! I wouldn’t even care if I looked funny trying to dance along. Can’t wait to try your soda bread recipe when it comes out. Have a great day today!

  44. Kyla on March 17, 2010 at 12:03 pm

You look like such a fun instructor! I’ve only taken zumba once or twice my awesomely fit grandma but it was a blast! I hope I have the time in my schedule to take it next semester

    • Kyla on March 17, 2010 at 12:03 pm

I meant with my awesomely fit grandma

  45. Catherine on March 17, 2010 at 12:22 pm

I looove Irish soda bread! If you posted a vegan version I’d be a verry happy camper. 🙂

I had a green smoothie this morning – I think that’s as far as my celebrating will go. We do have a happy hour for my office this evening after work, but I’m going to skip out because I’m dead tired after my 20-mile beast of a run yesterday!! …and I don’t think green beer is the best recovery drink.

  46. La on March 17, 2010 at 12:22 pm

Ahhhh i LOVE this video! Gina you’re just too cute!! Your energy is off the hook. I want to be just like you! haha.

      hahah aww thanks la! 🙂

  47. kara on March 17, 2010 at 12:24 pm

I made irish soda bread scones last night-so freakin good! I don’t care for green beer but I do have a new found love for green monsters. 🙂

And your brother does have the best birthday ever!

  48. Ashley on March 17, 2010 at 12:35 pm

I love corned beef and cabbage! However, I gave up meat for Easter so sadly I will not be partaking this year : (

I am making my first ever St. Patty’s Day feast – and it’s vegan, of course! Irish soda bread, corned “beef” seitan, and chocolate stout cupcakes with whiskey-laced frosting for dessert! YUM.

    • Fitnessista on March 17, 2010 at 1:39 pm

      so the question is…
      may i come over? 🙂
